In early November 2024, a baby southern pudu (南普度鹿) was born at a zoo in Argentina (阿根廷), and it was named Lenga. Since it was born, it has won the hearts of millions of people, especially scientists and environmentalists. According to Lenga’s keeper, Maximiliano Krause, Lenga is spending its days exploring the zoo with its parents. It feeds on its mother’s milk until it can eat plants on its own.

It’s said that the population of southern pudus in the wild is in the thousands and continuously falling. Lenga’s birth has offered hope to scientists who want to study and protect southern pudus. E
Now scientists at Stanford University have made a liquid (液体) that allows people to see through the skin of a mouse. The liquid is made with water and tartrazine (酒石黄) — a yellow-orange colouring often used in foods. When they tested this mixture (混合物) on very thin pieces of chicken, the chicken began to turn clear.
Next, the scientists tested the liquid on living mice. ____31____ Then they used the liquid to their skin. In just a few minutes, the skin of the mice became see-through. The scientists were able to see inside a mouse’s brain. When the liquid was washed off, the skin returned to normal.
To understand how this discovery (发现) works, it’s helpful to think about how light travels through different materials. ____32____ If it hits something, it bends or bounces (弯曲或反射). Glass is easy to see through because light only bends a little when it goes through the glass.
____33____ It’s made up of many different parts, like water, fat and protein (蛋白质). Each different material in the skin changes how light travels, bending and bouncing it in different directions. This makes it hard to see through the skin.
The tartrazine changes the way light bends in the skin. It does this mainly by making the watery parts of the skin more like the other areas. ____34____. This makes the skin see-through. The scientists say that if something similar could be made to work on humans, it could lead to exciting medical improvements. However, they note that more work needs to be done before a similar method can be used on humans. The liquid now only works on thin skin. ____35____
A. But skin isn’t like glass.
B. First, they cut the hair off the mice.
C. Light usually travels in a straight line.
D. Unlike this, human skin is much thicker.
E It could one day help doctors see inside human bodies.
F. As a result, light hitting the skin mostly bends in the same way.

第四部分 书面表达(共两节,满分25分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面的短文,完成短文后的问题。
It’s clear that AI (Artificial Intelligence,人工智能) is changing our lives in many ways at a fast pace (速度;节奏). There is a possibility that it may take over our jobs. How can we prepare ourselves for this The Wall Street Journal (华尔街日报) has offered some suggestions that can help us become more competitive in the job market.
Improve your communication skills.
AI might be good at reading and writing, but it can’t communicate with people like we do. So it’s a good idea to get experience in jobs that require you to work with people, including difficult people. You can work as a waiter or volunteer at a nursing home.
Learn lots of things, or become an expert in one thing.
If you have just one skill, you could be in trouble if AI is really good at it. So, consider learning more subjects or taking extra courses outside your major (专业). Having more skills never hurts. If you do want to focus on one thing, just make sure you know more about it than AI does!
Do big and creative things that AI can’t do. AI can do big, boring tasks, like comparing lots of information. However, it can’t push companies to develop creative ideas or improve. Even if AI does the routine (日常的) work, humans will still be needed to organize the projects in which AI is used.
Be adaptable (有适应能力的).
We don’t know what jobs will be like in the future, so good adaptability might be the best quality (质量;素质). You can achieve this by looking for new experiences. For example, you can study in a different country or take classes that force you to adapt, like acting classes!
In short, good luck will come to those who are always ready to learn and change.

However, it’s important for us to use AI wisely. First, we should regard it as a learning tool rather than a replacement for effort and hard work. Second, we should avoid spending too much time using AI. Finally, it’s necessary to protect our personal information while we are using AI.
All in all, AI is a wonderful tool that can help us learn better and faster, but we must use it carefully and properly.
