Do you eat lots of fruit and vegetables every day If you do, you're doing the right thing for your health! But it's also important to eat different kinds of fruit and vegetables. Science shows that eating fruit and vegetables of different colours is a great way to get enough nutrients(营养). It's called “eating the rainbow”.
Why are the colours important That's because they have something special called phytochemicals (植物化学物质). The phytochemicals not only give fruit and vegetables their colours, but they also have goodness. For example, the phytochemicals in carrots give them an orange colour and make them good for our joints(关节).
The most important colours are yellow, white, red, orange, purple blue, and green. Each of them is useful, so we should eat one or two kinds of fruits or vegetables of each colour every day.
▲ For breakfast, you could have porridge or milk with strawberries, bananas, and blueberries. Then the breakfast has red, yellow, and purple/blue.
