On the first day of senior year, Mia sat alone at the back of the music room, her fingers tracing the scar on her left hand-the reminder of a biking accident that had ended her piano dreams two years ago. The room was filled with the chatter of classmates tuning violins and adjusting drum kits, but Mia's eyes stayed fixed on the dusty piano in the corner.
" Hi, I'm Alex, " a boy with a guitar slung over his shoulder smiled. " You play piano, right I remember seeing you perform at the freshman concert." Mia tensed, her scar throbbing (颤动)slightly. " Not anymore, " she mumbled, pretending to study her music sheet.
Weeks passed. Mia kept to herself, but Alex's persistence was unwavering. One afternoon as Mia was sketching(画素描)the piano in her notebook, Alex suddenly said, "What if we did a duet(二重奏)for the winter concert You could... uh, help me with the piano part " His ears turned red, and Mia realized he was trying to hide the fact that he already knew about her accident.
"I can't," Mia said quickly, shutting her notebook. But Alex just shrugged. "No pressure. I'll be practicing in the music room after school if you change your mind. "
That evening, Mia found herself lingering (徘徊) outside the room. Through the window, she saw Alex struggling with a complicated guitar piece. Something about his determination stirred her. She pushed the door open. "The bridge section needs more harmony," she said softly. "Like this." Without thinking, she sat at the piano and played a simple chord progression, her scarred hand trembling but steady. Alex's eyes lit up. "Perfect! Let's try it together."
As the concert date neared, Mia noticed something surprising - her hand hurt less when she played, as if the music was healing old wounds.
On the night of the concert, the stage lights glimmered on the piano and guitar. Mia took a deep breath, her fingers hovering(悬停)over the keys. When Alex nodded, she began to play, soft and sure. The room was silent, then erupted into applause as their final notes combined.
Mia smiled. She realized that Alex had never pitied her; he'd simply seen the music in her heart, waiting to be heard. The scar on her hand still ached sometimes, but now it felt like a reminder of how beauty could grow from brokenness - just like their duet, imperfect yet whole.
24. Why did Mia stop playing the piano
A. She lost interest in music.
B. A hand injury affected her skills.
C . She preferred sketching to performing.
D. Her family couldn't afford piano lessons.

A. She felt sorry for Alex's poor guitar skills.
B. She needed to earn extra credit for music class.
C. She wanted to prove she was still a great pianist.
D .She was moved by Alex's persistent effort in practicing.
27. What can we infer from the last paragraph about Mia
A. She regretted hiding her talent for so long.
B. She no longer felt pain in her scarred hand.
C. She decided to become a professional musician.
D. She learned to embrace her imperfection through music.

In an era of constant notifications and endless to-do lists, many of us pride ourselves on "multitasking"-answering emails while watching a lecture, texting during homework, or scrolling social media while studying. However, decades of psychological research reveal a counter-intuitive truth: multitasking is not a productivity superpower but a cognitive illusion (认知假象).
The human brain is not designed to handle multiple unrelated tasks at a time. Instead, it switches rapidly between them, a process called task switching. Each time we shift focus—say, from solving math problems to checking a message—the prefrontal cortex(前额皮层),responsible for decision-making, must adjust itself. This "cognitive switching cost" includes a temporary drop in speed and accuracy. A 2019 study in Journal of Experimental Psychology found that participants who switched between tasks took 30% longer to complete them and made 50% more errors than those who focused sequentially.
One key reason for this inefficiency is attention residue(残留)—the mental delay when our brain hasn't fully free itself from a previous task. Imagine writing an essay while worrying about an upcoming quiz: your thoughts linger on the quiz, reducing the quality of your writing. Neurological scans show that even simple task shifts leave a "shadow" in working memory, consuming valuable cognitive resources. Multitasking, therefore, doesn't divide attention; it fragments it, leaving each task half-complete and mentally exhausting.
Contrary to popular belief, " gifted multitaskers " are extremely rare. A 2009 University of Michigan study tested over 300 participants and found fewer than 2% could handle multiple complex tasks without performance decline. Most of us are merely "serial taskers" fooling ourselves into thinking we're doing two things at once. The illusion persists because we confuse busyness with productivity - flitting between tasks creates the illusion of progress, but deep, meaningful work requires sustained focus.
So, how can we escape the multitasking trap Psychologists recommend the "single-tasking" approach: schedule specific time blocks for each activity, turn off non-essential notifications, and embrace the discomfort of focusing on one thing. Paradoxically, doing less at once allows us to achieve more, as our brains thrive on depth rather than breadth. As the poet Mary Oliver wrote , " Tell me , what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life " Perhaps the answer starts with doing fewer things-but doing them with all our mind.
28. What does the phrase " cognitive switching cost " in paragraph 2 probably refer to
A. The mental effort required to remember multiple tasks.
B. The short-term decline in task performance due to focus shifts.
C. The long-term damage to the prefrontal cortex from multitasking.
D. The increased speed in completing tasks by switching frequently.
29. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A. Simple task shifts have no impact on cognitive resources.
B. Neurological scans reveal the structure of working memory.
C. Multitasking improves writing quality by dividing attention.
D. Attention residue causes incomplete tasks and mental exhaustion.
30. What did the 2009 University of Michigan study find
A. Serial taskers are more productive than gifted multitaskers.
B. About 2% of participants performed better when multitasking.
C. Few people can multitask complex tasks without performance loss.
D. Most people can handle complex tasks at the same time efficiently.
31. What can we infer from the passage about improving productivity
A. Short breaks between tasks can enhance focus.
B. Multitasking is suitable for simple daily activities.
C. People should rely on technology to manage tasks.
D. Embracing single-tasking may lead to better results.

Solar energy, as a clean and renewable energy source, has been playing an increasingly important role in the global energy mix. Recently, significant advancements in solar energy technology have brought us closer to a more sustainable future.
One of the most notable developments is the creation of new solar cell materials. Traditional silicon-based solar cells have limitations in terms of efficiency and cost. However, researchers have been exploring alternative materials. For example, perovskite solar cells(钙钛矿太阳能电池)have emerged as a promising alternative. These cells can be produced at a lower cost and have shown high efficiency in converting sunlight into electricity. Some perovskite solar cells have even achieved conversion efficiencies comparable to, or even exceeding, those of traditional silicon cells in laboratory settings. This could potentially revolutionize the solar energy industry by making solar power more affordable and accessible.
Another area of progress is in energy storage solutions for solar energy. Solar power is intermittent(断断续续的),depending on sunlight availability. To address this, new battery technologies are being developed. Lithium-ion batteries(锂离子电池)have been widely used, but researchers are now looking at other options like flow batteries. Flow batteries can store large amounts of energy and have a longer lifespan. They can effectively store the excess electricity generated by solar panels during the day and release it when needed at night or during cloudy days. This improves the reliability and usability of solar energy.
Despite these exciting advancements, there are still challenges. The durability of new materials like perovskite under real-world conditions needs to be further improved. And the cost of some advanced energy storage systems is still relatively high. But with continuous research and development, these issues are expected to be gradually resolved.
32. What is a key advantage of perovskite solar cells over traditional silicon-based cells
A . They are inexpensive yet more efficient.
B. They are more durable in all weather conditions.
C. They require less sunlight to generate electricity.
D. They have a longer history of practical application.
33. Why are flow batteries considered a promising solution for solar energy
A. They are cheaper than lithium-ion batteries.
B. They can store energy continuously without interruption.
C. They have a longer lifespan and can store large energy amounts.
D. They can work better than lithium-ion batteries under low sunlight.
34. What is the author's attitude towards the advancements in solar energy technology
A. Optimistic. B. Pessimistic. C. Neutral. D. Doubtful.
35. Which is probably the best title for the text
A. The Limitations of Solar Energy
B. Energy Storage Solutions for Solar Energy
C. Traditional Solar Cells vs New Technologies
D. New Advancements in Solar Energy Technology

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In the digital age, technology has revolutionized how we interact, bridging distances but also raising questions about the depth of our relationships . While smartphones and social media enable instant communication , their overuse often transforms meaningful connections into superficial (肤浅的)exchanges. 36
On one hand, technology undeniably fosters global connectivity. Platforms like Skype allows people to communicate with loved ones across continents, maintaining relationships that would have been difficult to sustain in the past.
37 Text messages and emojis facilitate quick exchanges but lack the nuances(细微差别)of tone, body language, and facial expressions that define in-person conversations. A 2023 study found that people relying on digital chat feel less satisfied with their relationships. 38
Moreover, technology can create a false sense of connection while promoting physical disengagement. 39 A survey by Baylor University revealed that 60% of participants felt ignored when their companions used phones during meetings or meals, damaging the closeness of those moments. This shift toward digital interaction suggests that convenience is overshadowing the authenticity of human connection.
Critics argue that technology merely adapts to human behavior rather than shaping it; mindful users can maintain deep relationships alongside digital tools. While this is true, the overall effect of constant digital distraction is undeniable. 40 Setting boundaries - such as device-free family dinners or dedicated time for meaningful conversations-can help preserve the depth of relationships that technology alone cannot provide.
A. The key lies not in rejecting technology but in balancing its use.
B. People often prefer scrolling through feeds to engaging in real-time interactions.
C. Technology has reshaped human connection by offering extraordinary accessibility.
D. A heartfelt coffee chat is more likely to build trust than brief social media comments.
E. However, the convenience of instant communication often comes at the cost of depth.
F. Such tools break down geographical barriers and preserve bonds in a fast-paced world.
G. This contradiction highlights the need to assess if technology enhances human interaction.

On Lily's 15th birthday, she sat alone at the dim kitchen table, the once-beautiful chocolate cake now a melting mess. Dad had promised to return from his business trip by 6 PM, but as the clock struck midnight, there was still no sign of him. Her phone buzzed - another corporate apology message forwarded by Mom.
Tears welled up, blurring(使模糊)the "Happy Birthday" icing. Memories flooded back: Dad missing her piano recital last month, where she had played with all her heart for his proud smile; forgetting Parents' Day, while other kids enjoyed their parents' company; and their last proper conversation being a full three weeks ago.
She dashed upstairs, slamming her bedroom door. Collapsing onto the bed, her elbow(手肘)knocked over a dusty photo frame-a childhood picture of Dad piggybacking her at the beach, both grinning(冽嘴笑)wildly. Beneath it lay a leather journal she'd never seen. With curiosity, she opened it. The first entry was dated March 2023, during her hospital admission for pneumonia(肺炎).
Day 12: " Sold the car today. Lily's medical bills cleared. Told her the old sedan ' needed retirement'-better she thinks me frugal(节俭的)than worried."
Day 39: " Promoted to regional manager. Triple workload, but Lily's college fund secured. Miss bedtime stories ..."
The pages trembled in her hands. Footsteps approached outside.

Embracing AI Wisely
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an indispensable part of our daily lives, making tasks easier and more efficient. Whether it's smart speakers helping us manage our day or apps suggesting movies we might like, AI brings great convenience.
Yet, we must use AI cautiously. Relying too much on it could make us less capable of solving problems on our own or thinking critically. Also, we should be aware that AI collects a lot of our personal data, which might raise privacy issues.
To make the most of AI, we need to find a good balance. Let AI assist us, but don't let it take over completely. We should also learn about how our data is used and protect our privacy. By using AI wisely, we can enjoy its benefits while keeping our independence and safety in this tech-driven world. (120 words)
读后续写(25分)
The door creaked open slowly. There stood Dad, his face weary and lined with exhaustion. But his eyes lit up with love when he saw Lily. “Happy birthday, my dear,” he said softly. Lily’s eyes scanned his tired figure, thinking of the journal entries — his sacrifices, his silent love. All the anger and disappointment melted away. She now saw beyond his absences to the love that drove his actions. “Dad,” she whispered, her voice choked with emotion.
Holding the journal tightly, Lily couldn’t hold back her tears. She rushed to Dad and hugged him tightly. “Dad, I love you. Thank you for everything,” she sobbed. Initially surprised, Dad soon understood as he saw the journal. He stroked her hair gently, “I’m sorry I’ve been away so much.” In that embrace, they bridged the gap of unspoken words. From that moment, Lily knew their bond was deeper than she’d ever thought, rooted in a father’s silent devotion and a daughter’s new-found understanding.

W: Charles, have you always been interested in space travel
M: Frankly, as a child, I used to wonder what space travel might be like, but I was never absorbed in it.
W: So, when did you become interested in space travel
M: It was at the Naval Academy. I was a Navy pilot. I fell in love with planes. And that gave me the chance to get selected for the astronaut program.
W: And how did you find the training
M: Well, the moon-surface training in a spacesuit was physically demanding. In the spacesuits you had to fight to bend your arms and move your fingers inside the gloves. But actually, the hardest part was practicing landing and taking off. We often spent eight hours a day trying to learn what to do.
W: So how did you feel when you first heard that you were actually flying to the moon
M: Well…

W: Oh, hello! It’s Julia calling from Hotspots Travel Agency in Seattle. I’ve got 18 customers who would like to climb your Harbor Bridge. How long does the whole experience take
M: Just three hours. The first hour involves a safety lecture and training on the ground. And then they’ll spend one hour getting to the top of the bridge. And then another hour to come back down.
W: Right. It must get pretty windy there, so should they wear some clothing that can keep warm You know, like a jacket of some sort
M: No need for that because all climbers are provided with our special suit. So climbers just need to bring items which aren’t too heavy… such as a T-shirt or some compressed biscuits. So could we look at some possible dates

Text 10 AI社区食堂
W: China’s first community canteen powered by an artificial intelligence system opened at the Hongqiao community in Shanghai. The canteen offers all the eight great cuisines of China, and more than 30 kinds of breakfast to local senior residents and office workers.
The canteen’s intelligent cooking system and robotic arms can fry, bake, steam, or boil raw ingredients delivered from a central kitchen according to customers’ wishes. Robotic arms then pack the dishes and adjust the temperature for dine-in or takeaway.
All diners have to do is place their dishes on a smart cashier counter and the system will automatically figure out the cost of the meal. Then you pay by facial recognition bank card, digital RMB or in cash.
The AI system ensures that the dishes taste nice and helps improve service efficiency, according to Li Ming, whose company is the technology operator and provider for the canteen.
Li explained that a waiter in a traditional canteen can serve 35 to 100 diners, but with the AI system the number increases to 200.
