阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

As the snow begins to melt away into a distant memory, be sure to head outdoors this spring. Before the peak summer crowds roll in, you can explore unique scenic spots without the overwhelming rush of tourists. Several destinations around the globe are especially notable for their breathtaking spring offerings.
Puebla
This city in central Mexico attracts visitors with its UNESCO-recognized historic structures. Spring marks the final few months of Puebla's dry season and temperatures average around 21℃ — just right for wandering through the city's main square, or admiring baroque architecture like Capilla del Rosario.
Machu Picchu
Spring is a time of transition (过渡) at Machu Picchu. Tourists looking for ideal weather can book a trip in May, the beginning of this Peruvian heritage site’s dry season. No matter when you visit, you' ll be glad you have come as you set eyes on the 600-year-old Inca Citadel, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Yellowstone National Park
As the snowfall starts to slow down, baby animals emerge in Yellowstone, making this national park an excellent place to spot wildlife in spring. Tourists can hike on the lower elevation (高度) trails that open in April and May, while those who love mammals can keep their eyes peeled forbears coming out of hibernation with their cubs.
Arches National Park
You’ll be comfortable while exploring the park’s 2,000 arches or biking along its scenic paved roads. If you’re willing to risk a cold front, you can avoid the crowds during a March trip. During the peak months of April and May, all park visitors will need a reservation to enter — an easy trade — off for perfect weather and seeing desert blooms sprout.
21. What is the advantage of travelling in spring
A. Tourists will feel more secure. B. There are fewer crowds.
C. More tourist sites are available. D. It's fun to enjoy the last days of snow.
22. Which destination requires advance booking in peak season
A. Puebla. B. Machu Picchu.
C. Yellowstone National Park. D. Arches National Park.
23. Where is the text probably taken from
A. Reservation announcement. B. Science report.
C. News website. D. Travel magazine.

Last Tuesday, I had my first ride in an autonomous car. The anticipation for me was a bit like a kid waiting for holidays. But when I shared my passion with friends, many warned me to make sure my life insurance was paid in full before getting into the car.
The car looked pretty much like any other car on the road. The most amazing thing about the experience was how un-amazing it was. I' ll admit to being a bit disappointed at how normal it all seemed. I'm ready for a car with no driving wheel(方向盘) and a meeting table in the back. But it'll be a long time before most people are ready to go there. That's why the self-driving engineers want to create a comforting sense of lasting. They think it may take 25 years before we get fully autonomous cars. But whenever it arrives, the autonomous driving felt like just another baby step in a line of continuous progress rather than seeming like a great step forward.
That's because the plan is a combination of human and autonomous driving. The car I experienced is designed for highway driving. If the human driver doesn't respond in time, the autonomous driver assumes something is wrong and carefully guides the car to the shoulder. At any point, however, all the driver has to do to regain control is touch the wheel or brake(刹车).
This combination will let the autonomous car industry grow one step at a time so that society gets comfortable with it. The earliest consumer models will probably handle only certain tasks like highway driving and parking. Humans will still be responsible for the more challenging steps like dealing with side streets. Gradually, over a period of many years, the role of the human driver will wind down.
24. How did the author's friends react to his self-driving
A. They thought highly of it. B. They thought it was unreliable.
C. They were curious about it. D. They cared about his insurance.
25. What can be inferred from paragraph 2
A. The author was disappointed at the car. B. The engineers express their anxiety.
C. The car was equipped with modern comforts. D. All the people don't accept self-driving cars.
26. Why does the author think fully autonomous driving is only a small step
A. Human driving still matters. B. It lacks a sense of comfort.
C. It poses a threat to humans. D. It only targets highway drivers.
27. Which of the following best describes the combination of human and autonomous driving
A. Demanding. B. Inspirational. C. Progressive. D. Challenging.
C
The eyes are more than a window to the soul — they’re also a reflection of a person’s cognitive (认知的) health. Research has been exploring how the eyes may help in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease before symptoms (症状) begin.
“Alzheimer’s disease begins in the brain decades before the first symptoms of memory loss,” said Dr. Richard Isaacson, an Alzheimer’s preventive neurologist at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases. If doctors are able to identify the disease in its earliest stages, people could then make healthy lifestyle choices and control their “risk factors, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes,” Isaacson said.
Then how early can we see signs of cognitive decline To find it out, a recent study examined donated tissue from the retina (视网膜) and brains of 86 people with different degrees of mental decline. “Our study is the first to provide in-depth analyses of the protein profiles and the molecular, cellular, and structural effects of Alzheimer’s disease in the human retina and how they correspond with changes in the brain and cognitive function,” said senior author Maya Koronyo-Hamaoui, a professor of neurosurgery and biomedical sciences at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles.
Researchers in the study collected retinal and brain tissue samples over 14 years from 86 human donors with Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive damage—the largest group of retinal samples ever studied, according to the authors. Researchers then compared samples from donors with normal cognitive function to those with mild cognitive damage and those with later-stage Alzheimer’s disease.
The study, published in February in the journal Acta Neuropathologica, found significant increases in beta-amyloid, a key marker of Alzheimer’s disease, in people with both Alzheimer’s and early cognitive decline.
“These findings may eventually lead to the development of imaging techniques that allow us to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease earlier and more accurately,” Isaacson said, “and monitor its progression by looking through the eyes.”
28. What can eyes help do according to the recent study
A. Convey people’s feelings. B. Reflect people’s cognitive function changes.
C. Indicate people’s physical decline. D. Show people’s lifestyle choices.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The reason for the study. B. The process of the study.
C. The plan for the study. D. The method of the study.
30. How was the study conducted
A. By conducting a detailed survey about human retina.
B. By asking and answering questions about the changes in the brain.
C. By making a comparison between samples from different donors.
D. By keeping track of participants to collect their data within a decade.
31. What do Isaacson’s words imply in the last paragraph
A. Alzheimer’s disease can be cured by reducing risk factors.
B. Scientists have developed imaging techniques to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease.
C. Alzheimer’s disease begins in the brain years after the first symptoms of memory loss.
D. Alzheimer’s disease can be spotted before symptoms start by examining the eyes.
D
For thousands of years, Chinese writers have travelled all over the country to take down notes about the geographical conditions of each city. Among them, well known Chinese geographer and writer Li Daoyuan, in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), composed his book, Commentary on the Water Classics, after studying the original literary version, Water Classics. He later expanded the river records to 1,252 from the original 137.
The book is now being studied again by Professor Li Xiaojie and his team from Fudan University. They have been using drawing software and 3D modelling to recreate the waterway situations on a map based on the book description. So far, they have completed research on four rivers.
“Ancient people knew really well how to apply the power of nature to technical considerations,” Li said, giving the example of Qianjin'e, one of the most famous ancient water conservation projects in Luoyang, Henan. In order to lead the river into the city for irrigation (灌溉) in ancient Luoyang, the officials built a canal branch by separating a northwest southeast river. However, the canal water wasn't enough to support the citizens in dry seasons. To solve that, on the northern side of the canal branch, the officials built a reservoir (水库) and a channel to lead the water to the canal branch, where the waterways would converge and flow together to the city.
In Commentary on the Water Classics, a total of 2,800 cities are recorded with details. Still, the process of recreation takes much effort. After doing a lot of text analysis and fieldwork, the team has gradually created the model with 3D modelling software based on repeated deductions (推论).
For Professor Li, the book is not only a record of the natural landscape over 1,000 years ago, but also a detailed description of humanity and culture and a treasure for today's reference.
32.What can we learn about the book Commentary on the Water Classics?
A. It has been out of date. B. It explains 3D modelling.
C. It is based on previous studies. D. It keeps records of 137 rivers.
33.What does the underlined word “converge” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Join. B. Pass. C. Cross. D. Begin.
34.What does Paragraph 4 mainly tell us about model recreation?
A. Its major problems. B. Its complex process.
C. Its detailed analysis. D. Its successful application.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. 3D Technology Fuels Modern Research
B. An Effective Approach to Model Recreation
C. Ancient Classics Inspire Modern Research
D. A Famous Writer of Chinese Ancient Classics

While yoga is known for enhancing balance, flexibility, and calmness, it’s often considered less effective for weight loss than other exercises. However, even non-intense yoga sustains lasting calorie burning after practice.
36 . Here’s more about how yoga is a complete body and mind workout.
Removing stress, reducing pounds
Yoga helps manage stress, and studies show high levels of cortisol, a stress hormone (荷尔蒙), can lead to an increase in fat. Yoga has an impact on the body’s stress response and reduces the production of hormones linked to weight again. 37 . In one study, researchers found that practicing yoga seemed to impact the hypothalamus (下丘脑), reducing cortisol production. And another study found that doing meditative (冥想的) yoga reduced participants’ cortisol levels.
Making weight loss last
Recent research shows long-term yoga aids weight loss and boosts cognitive skills for a positive mood. Jessica, a Brown University professor, led a study on yoga’s practicability of weight maintenance. 38 . Jessica adds that someone experiencing a more positive mood may be less likely to overeat in response to negative emotions, or may be able to get back on track more easily after an overeating period, versus feeling guilty about overeating and continuing to engage in unhealthy practices.
39
A study found no difference in weight loss totals for participants practicing a gentle yoga versus a more energetic yoga. The best yoga is the practice that fits for you. There are many accessible styles of yoga that meet you no matter where you’re and what your size, age, physical challenge or background. 40 .
A. Practicing a gentle yoga
B. Choosing the right type
C. Everybody can benefit from a yoga practice
D. There’s no one style of yoga that’s best for weight loss
E. That’s because yoga’s other benefits can help with weight loss too
F. It shows yoga may enhance long-term weight loss via a more positive mood
G. Several studies have confirmed that doing yoga does reduce cortisol levels

For me, writing has been the one hobby I've regularly returned to, 49 moments of self-doubt. I've taken creative writing classes and seen significant improvement, but the constant 50 for perfection turns writing from a 51 into a chore. I've come to realize that this mindset 52 me of the joy I once found in it.
We need to recognize that it's 53 not to be great at something. Perfection is often 54 , and more often than not, we are our toughest critics. The challenge, then, is finding balance between enjoyment and 55 . Embrace imperfection, and enjoy the process, even if you're not "great" at it.

My dog, Ella, ran after me as I walked to my car that fall morning. I had had her only a couple of weeks, but we had become nearly inseparable. I’d gone through heart surgery a few months back. I figured taking care of a dog would keep me active. So I went to the local animal-rescue center. The little dog shaking slightly in a cage caught my eye right away. I could tell she longed to be picked up and hugged.
I went to talk to the shelter worker. "She just came in," the woman told me. "Her name is Ella." The worker opened Ella's cage and let me pick her up. I stroked her silky fur and she stopped shaking. I filled out the paperwork and took Ella home.
That fall morning last year I decided to take Ella with me for shopping. I opened the door. “Come on, Ella. Let's go.” She jumped into the car and settled down on the passenger seat. I got behind the wheel and started the car.
We live in a remote area up in the hills outside San Rafael, California. You have to drive up the mountain in low gear(低速挡) to get to our driveway, which is barely wide enough for one car and ends at a steep valley.
I twisted around and backed up slowly. Just then, a flash of sunlight blinded me. I put my hand up to shield my eyes. “Oh,no! The edge!” I shouted. The car slipped in the soft soil, and rolled. I fell inside the car as it turned over down the valley. The car rolled faster. Four, five, six rolls until I heard a horrible crunch. We landed upside down. I looked over to find Ella. She was still in the passenger seat and, thankfully, she was okay.
"Sorry, girl!" I gasped. Something was wrong with my left leg. I grabbed my cell phone but just as I had feared, I couldn't get a signal. Now what There was a hole in the driver's side rear window. It was small, but just maybe...

Dear Mike,
I’m exceedingly excited to hear about your participation in the Chinese poetry creation competition. While AI tools can provide inspiration and help with sentence-building, they also come with drawbacks. It is crucial to maintain originality for Chinese poetry.
On the one hand, AI’s data-driven approaches can enhance efficiency by suggesting rhymes and classical imagery, which provide creative sparks. However, over-reliance on AI tools may lead to general expressions lacking emotional and cultural depth. On the other hand, Chinese poetry attaches great importance to profound feelings and cultural connotations, which AI can’t fully grasp due to cross-cultural differences. Consequently, I propose you compose your original works with AI tools if necessary, as originality can reflect your unique creativity and is highly valued in poetry. I’m confident that blending technology with human touch will yield remarkable results!
Best regards! Looking forward to your good news.
Yours,
Li Hua

One possible version:
I gently put Ella's body through the hole. “Go home, baby,” I said. Ella jumped to the ground and raced up the side of the valley. My heart beat fast in my chest, so I took a pill. I shouted, but knew that wouldn't make any difference. No one would hear. A sense of helpless flooded over me. I sat there for hours and couldn't feel anything in my left leg. When the last bit of light filtering through the leaves faded away, I heard a voice calling my name.
The voice was from Robin, my neighbor. “Help!” I shouted with all my strength. “Are you all right ” Robin yelled back. “I just called the police!” It seemed only minutes later I heard an ambulance approaching. The rescue crew sent me to a hospital without any delay. After all sorts of tests in the hospital, a doctor told me there was nothing serious. Ella got right up next to me on my bed. I suddenly realized that true treasures in life are often found in the companions we choose along the way.

W: Oh, no.
M: You haven’t turned the page in the last ten minutes. It doesn’t really hold your interest

Although the course itself isn’t really that bad. It’s me, I suppose. I wanted to do chemistry rather than English, but my parents took me out of it.
M: So you’d better choose a different one.

W: Let’s take a look… Wow, it looks like you’ve had quite a lot of part-time jobs. But a lot of these were from when you were in middle school.
M: Yeah, I helped out my neighbors a lot. You know, gardening, painting, walking their dogs…things like that.
W: Well, maybe you could just have one entry for all of panies hiring college graduates care more about jobs from within the past five years.
M: OK. And I think I’ve included everything about my education.
W: Well, have you received any awards or scholarships
M: Um…I did get an award for a project I did during my first year. Should I mention that
W: Absolutely. Now, what about your interests and hobbies
M: Oh, I didn’t know I should put those down.
W: You definitely want to write a couple of sentences about who you are outside of school and work. Remember, you’re not some robot who is going to perform tasks over and over at work. You’re a human being whose personality will be part of the company.
M: All right. Anything else
W: In the personal interests section, you can also list any special skills you have. But try to keep the whole résumé to one page.

And now, the evening news.
A traffic accident on the 101 South in Los Angeles has caused a major traffic jam. No deaths have been reported, but four people have been taken to the hospital. In the meantime, we advise drivers to take the 405 North instead. But prepare to be at least one hour behind schedule this afternoon if you’re in the area. Better yet, just stay indoors and don’t drive at all!
A new planet was discovered early this morning by scientists at the New Mexico Observation Tower. The planet, named NM 451 for now, is about 1200 light years away from earth. Still, the scientists hope that this planet might tell them something about whether life might exist somewhere else in outer space. A picture of the new planet can be seen on our website.
A dog is being called a hero after saving a three-year-old child yesterday in a park in Glasgow, Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. Darvish, the owners of the dog, were relaxing in MacIntosh Park when they noticed that their son Joseph was missing. Their dog Pancho started barking and making a lot of noise. The dog ran away and kept looking back at his owners. When the couple finally followed Pancho, he led them straight to a small lake, where their son was about to go in the water. The couple was able to get to their son in time, and Pancho got his picture in the paper…plus a nice steak from the meat shop!
