A father in Southwest China’s Chongqing spent eight years building a real miniature steam train for his autistic (自闭症的) son. After primary school, the son named Hanghang was forced to drop out because he couldn’t catch up in classes and also had difficulty communicating with other children.
As his parents have day jobs, Hanghang spent most of his time staring at the TV screen with his grandmother. He developed a fascination for miniature trains in animated programs. Seeing this, Li Jiawei, an electrician, had an idea: to build a real miniature train for his son.
So whenever he was free, Li would closely observe the steam trains and asked professionals at railway stations about the machinery. Later, someone gave him a book called Steam Locomotives. He spent three months learning how to draw blueprints using software. Because the process was complex and the demand low, factories were unwilling to produce parts for the train. Li had no choice but to make the parts himself. At times he thought about giving up, but he chose to continue. Over eight years, Li spent more than 200,000 yuan testing the machine more than a thousand times. Finally in 2021 he built the first miniature train for his son.
As he continued work to improve the train, Li noticed Hanghang also changed. “My son improved little by little. He was no longer afraid of strangers and becoming more cheerful and lively,” Li recalled. The 15-year-old often confidently introduces his beloved miniature trains to others. Thanks to his inspiring story, Hanghang got a job at a tourism site near his father’s hometown driving his miniature train. Train tickets have become Hanghang’s “income”, but it is free for children with disabilities. “I hope society can be more tolerant and caring toward children with autism. I hope while my son lives a happy life, he can also bring happiness to others,” Li said.

D. His father loved him and decided to build a real miniature train for him.
25. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. The great efforts Li Jiawei made to build the train.
B. The support and help others offered to Li Jiawei.
C. The reason why factories refused to produce parts.
D. The positive changes that took place in Hanghang.
26. Which words can best describe Li Jiawei
A. Curious and creative. B. Loving and strong-willed.
C. Smart and humorous. D. Sociable and energetic.
27. What does Li Jiawei’s story convey
A. Where there is a will, there is a way.
B. Care and hard work bring opportunities.
C. A father’s love for his children is powerful.
D. A small kindness makes a difference to others.

This summer, Europe’s most popular attractions are fighting back against overtourism As many destinations move to restrict, fine and protest tourists for bad behavior, Copenhagen is trying a different approach to turning tourism from a negative force to a positive one.
Tourism officials in Copenhagen introduced CopenPay, a new pilot project that will provide various gifts and benefits to travelers who engage in climate-friendly behaviors, such as taking public transport or volunteering in clean-up efforts. These include free coffee and free museum tours. Green actions have become a currency for enjoying Copenhagen’s free food and cultural experiences.
Mikkel Aar -Hansen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen, says the initiative is not meant to increase tourism but merely promotes a better way to go about it. It aims to help transform tourism from “an environmental burden” into a “force for positive change.” He adds, “An important step in this transformation is to change how we move around on the destination, what we consume, and how we interact with the locals.”
According to a 2023 sustainable report from a London-based market research group, 81% of consumers say they want to act more sustainably, but only 22% have changed their behavior. Mikkel views CopenPay as an experimental step to bridge the gap between the desire to act sustainably and actual behavior. “We hope that by showing the success of this and other initiatives, other cities around the globe will be inspired to find their way to encourage more sustainable tourism behavior, ultimately leading to a more sustainable future for everyone.”
Will Copenhagen’s strategy work Only time will tell. Still, Randy Durband, chief executive of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, believes it “deserves some credit for not shaking a fist at bad behavior but trying to make it fun and have some rewards and benefits.”
28. How does Copenhagen cope with overtourism
A. By rewarding tourists for their green actions.
B. By providing free public transport for tourists.
C. By charging a heavy fine for tourists’ bad behavior.
D. By limiting the number of tourists in popular attractions.
29. What is CopenPay intended for
A. Improving the city’s image.
B. Promoting sustainable tourism.
C. Increasing income from tourism.
D. Enriching tourists’ travel experiences.
30. What can be inferred about CopenPay from Mikkel Aar -Hansen
A. It only works for a small number of tourists.
B. It pushes the development of global tourism.
C. It is expected to spread green tourism initiatives.
D. It has inspired many cities to follow its example.
31. What is Randy Durband’s attitude towards CopenPay
A. Disapproving. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Positive.
D
There has been a recent wave in Hollywood where studios take popular animated (动画的) films and “improve” upon them by changing them into live-action remakes. The thought that live-action movies are better because they follow the laws of the natural world degrades the style of animation.
The beauty of animation is that its use of caricatures (漫画) and exaggerations (夸张) reflects an amazing amount of creative depth in characters stories that reality cannot. Looking at the bigger picture, it becomes clear that the true purpose of Disney’s ever growing list of live-action remakes is not to comment on the value of animation, although it indirectly does, but a quick way to take advantage of nostalgic (怀旧) fans.
For evidence, look no further than Disney’s 2019 The Lion King live-action remake, a retelling of the 1994 animated classic. It broke several box office records, raking in a whopping $543.6 million globally in box office sales alone. However, in comparison to the original, the audience satisfaction with the remake decreased greatly on Rotten Tomatoes. This is similar to the the remakes of Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Dumbo, Aladdin, and the countless other live-action remakes Disney has produced within the last 5 years. This means that Disney no longer needs to come up with new and original content because they can make a big profit just by taking beloved stories and remaking them.
In fact, Disney looks at itself as a business, and therefore considers making a profit as one of their main aims.
The problem with this mentality (心态) is that, while Disney makes a huge profit, audiences, artists, and art suffer. They may no longer create new stories or art styles, but rather serve as money-making machines that require directors to produce the same stories with a fresh coat of paint every 10 years or so. If this cycle continues, artists will be held back from creating new lovable characters and stories full of creativity. The feeling of nostalgia when we see old Disney films could possibly never happen-to newer generations if this cycle does not stop.
32. What does the author think of live-action remakes
A. They slow down Hollywood development.
B. They’ve failed to become a popular art form.
C. They are poor at showing the beauty of nature.
D. They destroy the artistic expression of animation.
33. What makes animation attractive
A. It bases its stories on reality. B. It uses many special effects.
C. It explores characters fully. D. It brings back fans’ memories.
34. Why does the author mention the live-action remakes in paragraph 3
A. To tell us Disney has given up its originality.
B. To show Disney has focused more on making money.
C. To prove too many remakes have been produced.
D. To show audiences have high expectations of remakes.
35. What is wrong with Disney’s choice
A. It reduces Disney’s incomes. B. It demands more from directors.
C. It hurts new-generation audiences. D. It causes artists to be less creative.

His love of birds started when he made his first bird feeder about six years ago. Now, he has his own group called “Protecting Our Birds”. He has been making western bluebird boxes for about four years. Dessi hangs them up in trees and takes them down every week and looks at them to see if the bluebirds are nesting. He does that every year during the summer. He chooses the bluebird because they nest in dead trees, but a lot of dead trees are being cut down. Dessi makes these boxes to take the place of the trees. He does research about birds, runs a website to teach people about birds and how to help them, and builds boxes for birds. Dessi has interviewed biologists, written a lot of articles on birds for local newspaper. Dessi also recently spent 10 days in Alaska with his family where he did research on golden eagles in Denali National Park. So now let’s welcome Dessi Sieburth!

24. What can we know about Hanghang from the first two paragraphs
A. His love for miniature trains mainly came from the book he read.
B. His parents were so busy with work that he had to stay at home alone.
C. He didn’t fall behind others at school though he suffered from autism.

29. What is CopenPay intended for
A. Improving the city’s image.
B. Promoting sustainable tourism.

Looking at the bigger picture, it becomes clear that the true purpose of Disney’s ever growing list of live-action remakes is not to comment on the value of animation, although it indirectly does, but a quick way to take advantage of nostalgic (怀旧的) fans.
D 33. C 34. B 35. D
根据第一段“The thought that live-action movies are better because they follow the laws of the natural world degrades the style of animation. 【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“The beauty of animation is that its use of caricatures (漫画) and exaggerations (夸张) reflects an amazing amount of creative depth in characters stories that reality cannot. (动画的美妙之处在于它对漫画和夸张的运用,反映了人物故事中惊人的创作深度,这是现实所无法做到的)”可知,动画利用漫画和夸张的手法,充分探索了人物故事中的角色,并有深度地创作角色,非常有吸引力。故选C。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“This means that Disney no longer needs to come up with new and original content because they can make a big profit just by taking beloved stories and remaking them. (这意味着迪士尼不再需要推出新的原创内容,因为他们可以通过翻拍受欢迎的故事来赚取巨额利润)”和该段内容可知,该段提到了真人版翻拍电影,是为了表明迪士尼更专注于赚钱。故选B。
【35题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“They may no longer create new stories or art styles, (他们可能不再创造新的故事或艺术风格)”和“If this cycle continues, artists will be held back from creating new lovable characters and stories full of creativity. (如果这种循环继续下去,艺术家将无法创造出新的可爱的角色和充满创造力的故事)”可知,迪士尼的选择会使艺术家们不再创造新的角色和故事,不再有创造力。故选D。

Conscious (有意识的) living is not just a trend. ____36____ It is about being intentional with everything you do — your words, actions, beliefs, habits, and choices. Accepting conscious living takes some effort, but it is worthwhile. Here are some ways you can achieve this goal.
●Be conscious about your time.
Time is the most precious thing because there is no way to live a moment again. ____37____ If you waste your precious hours doing negative things, you will regret it later. The first step for living consciously is to be wise about your time. Be selective about things you spend it on, and allocate (分配) it for positive activities.
●____38____
You cannot achieve them unless you understand your needs and intentions. It is easier said than done because most people fail to make an effort to know themselves. Spend time thinking over and knowing your strengths and weaknesses. Once you know yourself better, you can create a plan to work towards becoming more patient, honest, and forgiving.
●Learn to be grateful.
Gratitude takes you a long way towards conscious living. It opens you up to a happier and a fulfilled mindset. Most people are unhappy because they see only the negatives in life. However, everyone has something to be grateful for. Writing a gratitude journal is a good start for counting your blessings. ____39____
●Believe in yourself.
It is the key to making the right choices, yet not regretting the wrong ones. ____40____ Spending time alone and thinking deeply are effective measures that enable you to identify the inner voice. Care for it and follow it to make it stronger down the line.
Conscious living is a skill you need to learn as you go, so be willing to make the effort and master it. You will absorb it soon and be a happier person in the long run.

D“It is a healthy choice that enables you to be happy.(它是一种健康的选择,能让你快乐)”提出有意识的生活还能带来快乐,与上文构成递进关系,句中代词it指代上文中“Conscious (有意识的) living”。故选D项。
上文“Time is the most precious thing because there is no way to live a moment again.(时间是最宝贵的东西,因为没有办法让一个瞬间重来)”分析了时间宝贵的原因,F项“The way you spend your time determines the course of your life.(你如何利用时间,决定了你的人生轨迹)”承接上文,说明利用时间对人生的重意义,照应本段主题“Be conscious about your time.(要意识到你的时间)”,上下文语意连贯一致。故选F项。
设空处是本段标题,根据下文“You cannot achieve them unless you understand your needs and intentions. It is easier said than done because most people fail to make an effort to know themselves. 【39题详解】
上文“Writing a gratitude journal is a good start for counting your blessings.

由文章第一段中“And to top it off, she was having trouble finding work. (最糟糕的是,她找不到工作)”可知,埃塞尔曼求职失败了,故本空选用fail“失败”。结合空前had(一般过去时),表明事情发生在过去,此空时态与had一致,应用一般过去时。故填failed。②考查名词。由文章第二段中“Feeling extremely disappointed, she decided to go to the Whole Foods across the street and found something for her hungry stomach. (她感到非常失望,于是决定去街对面的全食超市买点东西充饥)”可知埃塞尔曼情绪极为低落。本空选用disappoint“使失望”,结合空前experiencing,需用名词disappointment作其宾语。故填disappointment。③考查动词时态。由文章第三段中“As she crossed the street, Eshelman noticed a man, who was asking for money on the corner. (当她穿过街道时,埃塞尔曼注意到一个男人在街角要钱)” 可知,在去食品店途中,埃塞尔曼遇到了一个乞讨者。此处选用encounter“遇到”,引文中,noticed为一般过去时,表明事情发生在过去,该空要用一般过去时。故填encountered。④考查动词的时态和语态。由文章第三段中“She watched as he asked a passerby for change, but she even didn’t look at him. (她看着他向一个过路人要零钱,但她甚至没有看他)”可知那人被路人忽视。本空选用ignore“忽视”,空前looked为一般过去时,由空前and可知,此空时态与之相同;且The man与ignore构成被动关系,所以要用一般过去时的被动语态,故填was ignored。⑤考查动词时态。由文章第四段中“As Eshelman approached, the man turned his attention to her, and again he asked if he could have a little bit of money.‘Leave me alone. I don’t have anything to give you. Just go away!’ , Eshelman shouted, almost giving vent to (发泄) all her negative feelings. (当Eshelman走近时,那人把注意力转向了她,并再次问能否给他一点钱。‘别烦我。我没有什么可以给你的。走开! ’谢尔曼喊道,几乎把她所有的负面情绪都发泄出来了) ”可知,当埃塞尔曼走近时,那人向她求助。这里用turn, turn to sb. 由文章第四段中“As Eshelman approached, the man turned his attention to her, and again he asked if he could have a little bit of money.‘Leave me alone. I don’t have anything to give you. Just go away!’ , Eshelman shouted, almost giving vent to (发泄) all her negative feelings. (那人把注意力转向了她,并再次问能否给他一点钱。‘别烦我。我没有什么可以给你的。走开! ’谢尔曼喊道,几乎把她所有的负面情绪都发泄出来了)”可知,埃塞尔曼用不礼貌的言语拒绝了他,应用polite“礼貌的”的反义词impolite“不礼貌的”,作定语修饰words,故填impolite。⑦考查非谓语动词。由文章第四段中“But these unkind words were just what made her feel regretful and ashamed later. (但正是这些不友善的话让她后来感到遗憾和羞愧)” 可知,后来埃塞尔曼后悔以如此粗鲁的方式对待这个男人,应选treat“对待”。根据regret doing sth.“后悔做了某事”,此处用动名词作regretted的宾语,故填treating。⑧考查名词。由文章最后一段中“The man was obviously embarrassed as well as a little surprised. It was normal for him to be refused, but not usually in such a rude way. He just lowered his head (这个人显然很尴尬,也有点惊讶。对他来说,被拒绝是正常的,但通常不会如此粗鲁。他低下了头)”可知,那人尴尬而惊讶地低下了头,故本空选用embarrass“尴尬”。由空前的with可知,本空用名词embarrassment,作介词with的宾语。故填embarrassment。⑨考查形容词或动词语态。由文章最后一段中“And it was at that moment that she found her purse, where she had put all her money and important papers, was missing. (就在那一刻,她发现她的钱包不见了,她在那里放了所有的钱和重要文件)”可知,埃塞尔曼发现钱包丢了,应选lose“丢失”。既可以用形容词lost“丢失的”作宾语her purse 的补足语,也可以理解为found后的宾语从句中her purse与lose为被动关系,用一般过去时的被动语态was lost 作从句谓语,故填 lost/was lost。 由文章最后一段中“And it was at that moment that she found her purse, where she had put all her money and important papers, was missing. (就在那一刻,她发现装着她所有钱和重要文件的钱包不见了)”可知,钱包对埃塞尔曼很重要,因为里面装着她的钱和文件,应选contain“包含,装有”。由空前的was可知,事情发生在过去,此处需用一般过去时。故填contained。
【67题详解】
考查细节理解。根据文章第四段“But these unkind words were just what made her feel regretful and ashamed later. (但正是这些不友善话语,让她后来感到懊悔和羞愧)”可知,埃塞尔曼对男人大喊之后感到后悔和羞愧。故答案为:She felt regretful and ashamed.
由文章最后一段中“After picking up some bread and a bottle of water, she went to the checkout to pay. And it was at that moment that she found her purse, where she had put all her money and important papers, was missing. (拿了一些面包和一瓶水后,她去收银台付款。就在那一刻,她发现装着她所有钱和重要文件的钱包不见了)”可知,钱包可能被人偷走了,或者只是意外地掉到了地上。故答案为:It might be stolen by someone or just drop onto the ground by accident.
由文章最后一段中“The man was obviously embarrassed as well as a little surprised. It was normal for him to be refused, but not usually in such a rude way. He just lowered his head (这个人显然很尴尬,也有点惊讶。对他来说,被拒绝是正常的,但通常不会如此粗鲁。他只是低下了头)”可推测,这个男人并非脾气恶劣之人。所以这个男人可能会找到埃塞尔曼的钱包并归还给她,而埃塞尔曼可能会向男人表达感谢并致歉。故答案为:The man might find Eshelman’s purse and return it to her. Eshelman might say thanks and sorry to the man.(possible answer)
