In today’s fast-paced world, few technological advances have generated as much interest and concern as eeptarke AI. The term “deepfake” combines “deep learning” and “fake”, referring to AI systems that employ artificial intelligence and machine learning to produce videos and audio recordings that appear remarkably real. While deepfakes can have positive applications in entertainment and education, their potential for misuse in wrong hand to commit crimes by creating fake news raises significant moral and legal issues.
People train a computer model on a dataset of images and sounds to learn how a person looks and speaks from various angles. A more extensive dataset results in a more convincing deepfake. This process typically uses Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), where one model generates the fake while another detects it, continuously improving until the fake is highly similar to the real thing.
Deepfakes have diverse functions. In entertainment, they are used to de-age actors or enhance dubbing by imitating a speaker’s mouth movements with a target language. In journalism, deepfake technology can recreate realistic scenarios for educational purposes. However, darker applications include creating false narratives for evil purposes, thus requiring close monitoring.
As deepfake technology advances, so do methods for detecting it. Early detection focused on visual clues like unnatural blinking and lip movements, but these signs are becoming less noticeable. Today, detection techniques use advanced AI systems to identify things invisible to the human eye. Additionally,block-chain technology can confirm the authenticity (真实性) of digital media, providing a secure record of original content.
As deepfake technology evolves, it presents exciting possibilities alongside significant risks. While it offers valuable applications across various fields, it also poses serious threats related to misinformation and fraud (诈骗). Collaboration among technology developers, lawmakers, and the public is essential to create regulations that maximize the benefits of deepfake AI while minimizing its dangers.
23. What is the problem brought by deepfake AI
A. The slow advances of AI technology. B. The legal issue with machine learning.
C. The increasing addiction to online videos. D. The intended spread of false information.
24. What aspect about deepfakes is mainly discussed in paragraph2
A. Its creation. B. Its definition.
C. Its applications. D. Its problems.
25. What can we infer about the use of deepfake technology
A. It brings more benefits than problems. B. It helps actors learn foreign languages.
C. It needs regulations on safe application. D. It enhances the authenticity of journalism.
26. What may be a best title for the text
A. The Possible Ways of Safe AI Application. B. The Double-Edged Nature of AI Deepfakes.

A recent study by a team of researchers from Canada has uncovered that birds living in cities not just are better at problem-solving and more skilled in tasks than those in the suburbs, but also have stronger immune (有免疫力的) systems!
The research, headed by Audet, a PhD student at a university, examined the cognitive (认知的) abilities of city birds with those of their country cousins. The team did their study in Barbados because it needed a broad range of situations: from crowded modern cities to the countryside. They began by catching some birds from various parts of the Caribbean Island. The birds were then given several tasks. Some tested their associative learning skills while others were to observe how creative they were at problem-solving. While country birds are also much braver, the city birds appear to be more careful when facing unfamiliar things.
The results did not surprise the researchers. After all, birds living in cities and towns face many more challenges and dangers than those that live in the country. But as it turns out, the city birds prove to have better immunity and are therefore more resistant (有抵抗力的) to diseases than those living in the countryside. While additional studies need to be done to see if this is true for all, city birds, there is no reason to believe that the results would be any different.
Though this is the first time researchers have compared the cognitive abilities of birds living in different conditions, it is not the first study to examine the differences between city and country birds. Previous research has shown that blackbirds in cities are similarly more careful than country blackbirds, and that sparrows and blackbirds living in cuties sing at a higher frequency to be heard over city noise and to make up for sound distortions (失真) caused by tall buildings. If only birds knew the advantages of living among humans, maybe more would move to cities!
27. How are city birds different from country birds according to the research
A. Country birds have a wider range of challenges to survive.
B. City birds are braver when facing unfamiliar things or situations.
C. City birds have a weaker immune system because of air pollution.
D. Country birds are less skilled at jobs requiring creation and skills.
28. What conclusion does the author think further studies will draw
A. Country birds are more careful in dangerous situations.
B. City birds are more likely to get sick than country birds.
C City birds are more resistant to diseases than country birds.
D. Country birds can be taught the advantages of living in cities.
29. Why do city birds sing at a higher frequency than country birds
A. There is too much noise in the city.
B. There are a wider range of situations.
C. The birds live far away from each other.
D. There are more dangers in cities for them.
30. What is the passage mainly about
A. What a PhD student has done has surprised the world.
B. City birds are smarter and healthier than country birds.
C. The necessity and ways to move country birds to cities.
D. Research into birds’ immune systems and learning power.

第五部分 书面表达(共1题,总分25分)
71. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night Did he get tired Have doubts Did he want to quit I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.

C The increasing addiction to online videos.
C. A New System for AI Harms Detection. D. A Joint Campaign against False Information.
【答案】23. D 24. A 25. C 26. B

A Country birds have a wider range of challenges to survive.
C. City birds are more resistant to diseases than country birds.
【答案】27. D 28. C 29. A 30. B

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

【答案】 A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I was so happy to hear the news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!”
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before, but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written many good works and now I am a famous writer. I owe my success to my social teacher who is a beacon in my life on the road to writing.
