A possible version:
Recently, a heated discussion has been held/launched by our class held on whether students should watch short videos. Opinions concerned are divided.
Some students approve of it. Their reasons are as follows. Short videos, rich in various contents, can convey a large amount of information readily, which broadens our horizons. Besides, they serve as excellent stress relievers after a long day of study, allowing us to relax. However, just as every coin has two sides, others hold the opposite view, arguing that watching short videos is a waste of time, especially for those with poor self-control. Once addicted, students will find it extremely tough to focus on study, thus negatively affecting their academic performance.
As far as I’m concerned, I hold the view that short videos themselves are harmless in that the key lies in self-discipline. As long as we can control the time spent and prevent them from distracting us, watching short videos can be a beneficial form of entertainment.

An artist named FlowGPT had used AI technology to recreate the voices of Bad Bunny, Bieber and Daddy Yankee. Bad Bunny himself hated it, discouraging his fans from listening. But many fans of all three stars loved it all the same.(今年早些时候,Bad Bunny否认了他即将与Justin Bieber发行一首新歌的说法。

M: Exactly! This whole process happens very quickly, of course.
W: Wow! Now, using this tool, will a blind person be able to see as well as a normal one
M: No, they won’t have perfect vision, but they will be able to see many things. This tool is still new, but for many of the people in our study, it’s changed their lives.
17-20【原文】M: Today’s grandparents are joining their grandchildren on social media, but different generations’ online habits could be different. In the UK the over-55s are joining Facebook in increasing numbers, meaning that they will soon be the site’ s second biggest user group, with 6. 4 million users. Sheila, aged 59, said she joined Facebook to see what her grandchildren are doing, as her daughter Daisy posts videos and photos of them online. It’s a much better way to see what they’re doing than waiting for letters and photos in the emails. Only 2.2 million users in the UK are under 17, but they’re not going far from their smartphones. Chloe, aged 15, even sleeps with her phone because she uses it as her alarm clock. Unlike her grandmother’s generation, Chloe’s age group is spending so much time on their phones at home that they are spending little time with their friends in real life. Sheila, on the other hand, contacts old friends from school she hasn’t heard from in 40 years on social media. It’s changed her social life completely. As we know, parents were the early adopters of the smartphone. Peter, 38 and father of two teenagers, said that he used to be on his phone or laptop constantly because of work. He wants to change this situation. So, in the evenings and at weekends, he only makes calls and sends text messages to set a better example to his kids and spend more quality time with them.南阳一中高一年级春期第二次月考英语学科试题

Earlier this year, Bad Bunny rejected a saying that he was about to release a new song with Justin Bieber. But last month, a song featuring what sounded like his and Bieber’s voices started spreading on TikTok, gaining millions of likes. Bad Bunny hadn’t lied, though: the song was created with AI. An artist named FlowGPT had used AI technology to recreate the voices of Bad Bunny, Bieber and Daddy Yankee. Bad Bunny himself hated it, discouraging his fans from listening. But many fans of all three stars loved it all the same.
The song and the polarized reactions to it show how AI has stormed the music industry in a troublesome way. Over the past couple of years, advancements in machine learning have made it possible for anyone sitting in their homes to reproduce the sound of their favourite musicians.
Some boosters argue that these advancements will allow anyone with an idea to create music. But some artists have reacted with anger that something so personal as their voice or musical style could be commercialised for someone else’s gain. The push-and-pull between protecting artists, driving innovations, and determining the supportive roles for man and machine in music creation will be explored for years to come.
The singer-songwriter Holly Herndon is among the artists trying to get ahead of these changes. She created an imitation of her own voice called Holly+, allowing anyone to transform their own voice into hers. The purpose of the project is not to force other artists to also surrender (让出) their voices, but to encourage them to also take on an active role in these larger conversations. “I think it’s an opportunity to rethink what the role of the artist is,” she tells TIME. “There’s a way to still have some control over the digital version of yourself, but be more playful and less strict.”
24. How does the author introduce the topic
A. By making a comparison. B. By presenting a survey.
C. By quoting an incident. D. By sharing a song.
25. What does the underlined phrase “The push-and-pull” in paragraph 3 mean
A. The competition. B. The responsibility. C. The equality. D. The balance.
26. What is the purpose of creating Holly+
A. To involve artists in AI discussions.
B. To challenge artists’ traditional role.
C. To commercially use the digital voice.
D. To offer ideas for fans’ music creation.
27. What does the text mainly convey about AI music
A. Its popularity. B. Its controversy. C. Its feature. D. Its profit.

Have you ever imagined an insect-inspired robot, which weighs less than a gram, could one day help out in surgery
Scientists have designed this small, “insect-bot” called mCLARI that can control and even change its body shape as it travels in different environments to fit through gaps. It’s 2 centimeters long, weighs less than 0.97 grams and can travel at a speed of 6 centimeters per second. It’s the smaller, faster replacement to CLARI, which was designed by the same team.
“Because of the robot’s small size and ability to change shape, we expect usage of this technology in four important areas,” the lead author Kaushik Jayaram said. These include disaster response, check on high-value objects, environmental monitoring and medical treatment.
“In the long term, we hope such robots will be used more widely in moving through human bodies and performing surgeries that can’t be easily done at present,” Jayaram said. With mCLARI, Jayaram’s team is moving closer to creating robots that can fit in different environments—just like the insects they’re inspired by.
The mCLARI robot has four legs and can move in narrow spaces by changing between running forward and side-to-side and can use different speeds in human bodies. Its legs are joined to its body through joints, which enables mCLARI to change its body shape based on the environment it is in. For example, its legs can be lengthened up to 50% in certain spaces.
As follow-up work, the scientists want to give mCLARI more power and sensing ability while helping the surgeries. “We are also excited about understanding the effect of shape change on improving functions of robots,” Jayaram said. “And this is sure a great one-step forward of the technology. The robot will have entered the market by 2025 and will bring greater benefits to mankind, especially in medical treatment.”
28. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Possible application fields of the robot. B. Different types of the robot.
C. Several important features of the robot. D. Working process of the robot.
29. Which of the following can best describe mCLARI
A. Valuable but uncontrollable. B. Modern but high-cost.
C. Heavy and time-consuming. D. Advanced and effective.
30. What is Jayaram’s attitude towards the robot
A. Concerned. B. Optimistic. C. Skeptical. D. Indifferent.
31. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. Jayaram: A Scientist Studying Robot Intelligence
B. mCLARI Is Already Widely Available in the Market
C. CLARI: A Robot Invented by Inspiration from the Insects
D. A Tiny Shape-changing Robot Will Help Perform Surgeries

Summer sea ice in the Arctic could melt almost completely by the 2030s — roughly a decade earlier than projected — even if humans cut back drastically on greenhouse gas emissions, new research suggests.
An ice-free summer, also called a “blue ocean event”, will happen when the sea ice drops below one million square kilometers, writes Jonathan Bamber, a professor of physical geography at the University of Bristol, in the Conversation.
Previous assessments using models have estimated an ice-free summer under high and intermediate emissions scenarios(高中等的排放情形) by 2050. But researchers noticed differences between what climate models predicted about what would happen to sea ice and what they’ve actually seen through observations. “The models, on average, underestimate sea ice decline compared with observations,” says Nathan Gillett, an Environment and Climate Change Canada scientist.
Now, in a new study published in Nature Communications, Gillett and his teammates changed these models to more closely fit satellite data collected over the past 40 years. Using these adapted models, the researchers projected ice changes under different possible levels of greenhouse gas emissions. Their paper suggests that regardless of the emissions scenario, “we may experience an unprecedented ice-free Arctic climate in the next decade or two.”
While sea ice naturally decreases in the summer and refreezes during the winter, summer ice coverage has steadily been declining over the past few decades because of climate change. And Arctic ice melting happens faster itself — as ice disappears, it exposes more of the dark blue ocean, which absorbs more heat and leads to more melting. This process has led to the region warming nearly four times faster than the rest of the globe since 1979.
Sea ice decline could have disastrous consequences that extend to the rest of the planet, including sea level rise and disturbance to weather patterns and ecosystems. Animals like polar bears and seals that rely on Arctic ice to survive could be placed at risk.
32. According to the new research, what will happen concerning summer sea ice in the Arctic
A. Its nearly complete melting may occur earlier than expected.
B. Its disappearing once and for all will be in less than 10 years.
C. Its dropping will give rise to so-called “blue ocean event”.
D. Its melting can be prevented in greenhouse gas emissions.
33. What effort did the researchers make after figuring out the problem of the previous assessments
A. They abandoned the attempt to use models.
B. They collected satellite data over the past 40 years.
C. They adapted the models to be consistent with the actual cases.
D. They predicted accurately ice changes in regions of the Arctic.
34. How is the paragraph 5 developed
A. By listing statistics. B. By giving definitions.
C. By making a comparison. D. By analyzing cause and effect.
35. What message may the text be trying to convey to readers
A. Pride comes before a fall. B. Man proposes, god disposes.
C. A good beginning is half done. D. If the lips are gone, the teeth will be cold.

After my family got comfortably settled in Hotel Ramada in Bangkok, we started exploring the city. After endless hours of shopping, it was finally time to go back.
This was when the trouble started. We forgot there are two Ramada hotels in the opposite directions. Absolutely unaware of this, we started searching for the way back. Google maps suggested us the shortest route which was just 20 minutes away by walk. 36
Bangkok felt different after sunset. Walking along the heavily-crowded roads with the dark-red sky felt beautiful. Lost in our talk, we didn’t realize that we passed onto the quieter part of the town.
37 It was closed for redecoration. To our luck, nobody around us then spoke English. Worse still, we stepped in a local tuk-tuk (三轮车), which took us to an unknown area for an enormous pay. We had no idea where we were, our mobile phones nearly out of charge.
38 He was a taxi driver. Recounting the day’s events proved to be a great conversation starter. We ended up talking through the way. He was so kind as to offer to drive us around for the rest of our stay. 39 For the next four days, from floating markets to the temples of Wat Pho, our trip wouldn’t have been so trouble free without him.
Sometimes when things don’t go according to plan, I think about the stranger we met on the streets and how a tiny mistake on our part led to unexpected results. 40
A. That was when our hero arrived.
B. Our thankfulness knew no bounds.
C. We reached a completely different Hotel Ramada.
D. We set off into the city with little research on transport.
E. We decided not to waste our money but our time instead.
F. The trip rings as a reminder that every cloud has a silver lining.
G. He then informed us that our hotel was just a few blocks away.
