1.(nervously approaching the table) Erm ... Dad, can we talk
2.(raising his voice in surprise) You can't be serious! What about your future career as a lawyer?!
You can't be serious体现了父亲听到儿子的职业规划后的惊讶,What about ...
3.I knew you'd say that!
4.(with a sigh) Dad ...
The kids nervously knocked on the door of the old house.
②(英译汉)And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, flutter (飘动) and fall there with a sigh.

I knew that you would be late!
④(完成句子)__________________________, he said, “_________ ________!”
Raising his voice in surprise
You must
be joking
1.You just assume I want to be a lawyer, but that's only because you are a lawyer.
assume I want to be a lawyer是省略了that的宾语从句,that's because ...
2.Why don't you also take my advice and think carefully before jumping in with both feet
赏析:Why don't you ...
①(完成句子) social media has a strong influence in practice.
If you don't know what to do, why don't you do what you like

Does every dinner with your parents seem to turn into a battle Have your once warm and open conversations become cold and guarded Do you feel that you just cannot see eye to eye with them on anything You are not alone. Heated arguments and cold silences are common between teenagers and their parents.
“Why can't they just let me go?” you may wonder. On the other hand, when you are struggling to control your feelings, you wish they could be more caring and patient — sometimes they forget that growing up is a rough ride. It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult. All of this can lead to a breakdown in your relationship.

A
Josie, who is 17 years old, said, “Why do my parents do the same things they tell me not to do For example, my mum stops me from shouting through the walls and asks me to go and speak to her face-to-face, but she always shouts through the walls to me. What can I do?”
That is a very good point. Parents can be completely inconsistent (不一致), and usually they don't realize it. You see this a lot in many things like smartphones. Parents always say to their kids, “Oh, you can't use that. That device (设备) is bad for you, so stop using it at the table. It's harmful.” But then they are on theirs continually. So what do you expect teenagers to do
The whole “Do as I say, not as I do” thing is an annoyance, especially for a teenager who is dying for independence and respect but isn't getting them.
What can teenagers do with it I would say you should point it out by calmly saying something like “You tell me not to scream through the walls, but you do it to me, so you can understand where I'm coming from. That's not ideal.” They might object to it, but I think most parents who care about being parents would logically say, “That's a reasonable point.”
There are a lot of conflicts (矛盾) going on between teenagers and their parents, but a lot of studies show that the conflicts are resolved a lot more when they turn into a dialogue.
If you can talk at a time when you're both feeling a bit calmer, like just in the kitchen or doing something unimportant, then go in and say, “Can I just mention it You tell me not to do this, but you do it too.” If you can approach it in a more calm and stress-free manner, most parents will respond positively.
1.How did Josie feel according to her words in paragraph 1
A.Hopeful. B.Bored.
C.Proud. D.Confused.
根据第一段“Why do my parents do the same things they tell me not to do?”

2.What does the underlined word “theirs” in paragraph 2 refer to
A.The parents' smartphones.
B.The tables in the house.
C.The devices in the house.
D.The teenagers' points.

根据画线词上文“Oh, you can't use that. That device (设备) is bad for you, so stop using it at the table. It's harmful.” 故选A。
3.What should teenagers do with their parents' inconsistency
A.Object to it personally.
B.Complain of it continually.
C.Talk with their parents calmly.
D.Do some studies differently.

4.What is the author's purpose of writing the last paragraph
A.To list a fact. B.To offer a suggestion.
C.To show a result. D.To ask a new question.

B
This July my husband and I decided to move both our kids, aged 14 and 10, from their previous schools to a new international school that's located in our neighborhood. It wasn't an easy decision. We knew switching (改变) schools would be a challenge for our kids.
Put two kids in the same situation and they react and feel differently. Nina, outgoing and talkative, has no problem making new friends and adjusting to the new school. It took her less than a week to say, “This school is great. I like it.” Everywhere she goes, she's surrounded by friends.
While it took Michael months to say, “I guess this is fine.” Before that, he complained about everything. He's sensitive and quite hard on himself. Words of encouragement need to be told on a daily basis.
To make our children comfortable before, during, and after the move, we included them in our plan from the beginning. They're big enough to take part in decision-making activities. We researched, compared, and asked questions. We listed everything about their old schools and the new one, and we discussed every item. We were open with them from the start. Our kids knew what was going on and what was about to happen. They had time to prepare themselves. They trusted us.
Communicating with their new teachers was also important. For the first three months, we kept an eye on our children's academic (学业的) performance and their school life. If we discovered a drop in their grades or any unusual behavior, we were quick to arrange appointments with their teachers.
We don't aim to be helicopter parents, but it doesn't mean we let them go completely. Balancing this role is hard — the older the kid, the harder it gets — but it's not impossible. The key is to listen first, and act second.
5.Why were the children probably moved into a new school
A.The old school is not good enough.
B.They wanted to make more new friends.
C.The new school is conveniently located near their home.
D.The outgoing child can help the shy one in the same school.

6.How did the parents help the children deal with switching schools
A.By tolerating their behavior in school.
B.By choosing the best teachers for them.
C.By encouraging them to enjoy social life.
D.By having open communication with them.

7.What might the underlined phrase “helicopter parents” in the last paragraph refer to
A.Parents who send their children to school in person.
B.Parents who pay very close attention to their children.
C.Parents who talk too much rather than take action.
D.Parents who listen to their children all the time.

根据文章最后一段的首句可知,helicopter parents与let them go completely完全相反,let them go completely表示“完全放任不管”,由此可推知,helicopter parents指管得很紧,或密切关注。
8.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage
A.Parents should prepare children for decisions.
B.Children can adapt to a new school quite easily.
C.Children should listen to their parents when making decisions.
D.Parents should communicate with children about their performance.

How to Say Anything
Could you use some advice Or has something big happened Our tips can help you say anything to your parents.
Pick the right time. You need your parents' full attention in order to have a good talk. Try not to bring up something when it's past your bedtime or when your parent is in a rush. 9 Your parents want to know what's on your mind, so ask them to make time for you.
Go slowly. What you need to say probably isn't simple, so don't try to get it all out in one breath. Give your parents the details they need to make a decision before you start trying to bargain with them. Besides, another thing is also of great importance. 10 Listen to them, and they'll listen to you.
Be honest. Your parents will respond better if you believe that you're telling the truth and not trying to avoid blame. Take responsibility for your part in getting into trouble or earning a bad grade. 11 Things get worse the longer you wait.
Try, try again. When you fly off the handle, your parents have a hard time seeing your point of view. If you're angry or frustrated, take a break from the conversation. Excuse yourself, and go somewhere to cool off. 12
Be brave. 13 But your parents almost always can help you solve a problem or answer a big question, and you'll almost always feel better afterward. Talk to your parents. You'll be glad you did.
A.If you've done something wrong, admit it.
B.After all, details determine success or failure.
C.Remember that conversation is about give and take.
D.If your parents are occupied, make an “appointment (预约)”.
E.Your conversation will be reduced to a terrible quarrel.
F.Gather your thoughts and try talking to your parents again.
G.You might have a question for long before you get up the courage to let it out.
9.选D 根据上文“Try not to ...in a rush.” 根据下文“Your parents want ...make time for you.”
10.选C 根据下文“Listen to them, and they'll listen to you.”
11.选A 根据该段标题Be honest.以及上文“Take responsibility for your part in getting into trouble or earning a bad grade.” 根据下文“Things get worse the longer you wait.”
12.选F 根据上文“If you're angry or frustrated, take a break from the conversation. Excuse yourself, and go somewhere to cool off.”
及下文“But your parents almost ...feel better afterward.”

If you can talk at a time when you're both feeling a bit calmer, like just in the kitchen or doing something unimportant, then go in and say, “Can I just mention it You tell me not to do this, but you do it too.” If you can approach it in a more calm and stress free manner, most parents will respond positively.

They're big enough to take part in decision making activities.
We don't aim to be helicopter_parents,_but it doesn't mean we let them go completely. Balancing this role is hard — the older the kid, the harder it gets — but it's not impossible. The key is to listen first, and act second.

B.They wanted to make more new friends.
C.The new school is conveniently located near their home.
