When I listened to music, it made my spirits fly like a kite in the wind. Music gave me strength and brought me relief. It was the rock I leant on to become strong and to get through those hard times. Moreover, music gave me hope and a sense of satisfaction. It became my best friend. It spoke words of encouragement to the deepest part of my being. (Paragraph 3)Of course, I hope none of you have to go through the same kind of suffering that I did. At the same time, we all go through various periods when we feel sad or alone. During those times, music can help you in the same way that it helped me. I hope all of you will somehow begin to treasure music and make it a part of your life. Thank you! For example, “That businessman is a real fox.”Personification is when a thing, idea, or animal is given human attributes. For example, “The sky weeps.”A simile compares two things by using words such as “like” or “as”. For example, “John is as cunning as a fox.”A rhetorical question is a question that isn’t meant to elicit an answer, but is asked to make a point. For example, “How could I be so stupid ”Repetition is the use of the same word or phrase in a poem, speech, etc. It can be used for different purposes, such as to heighten tension or to give emphasis. One example of this can be seen in Julius Caesar’s famous saying “I came, I saw, I conquered.”To quote is to repeat a short passage, word, phrase, or sentence that came from somewhere or someone else. Quotes can be used to describe or to add more examples. Sometimes a quote can even motivate people. For example, “… as Longfellow says, ‘Music is the universal language of mankind.’”Rhetorical devicesReading1 Match the names of rhetorical devices(修辞手法) to the lettered sentences in the speech.metaphor ________ personification _________quote ___________ repetition _____________rhetorical question ________ simile ______________AEFBCDWhat’s the function of each rhetorical device Welcome the audienceIntroduce oneselfIntroduce the topicSarah's personal anecdote(story/experience)about the topic(music)Sarah's personal feelings about the topic(music)Sarah's advice to the audienceThank the audience at the endEndingBodyStartAppropriate structure makes the speech smooth, logical and coherent.readingRead for the structure of a speechPara. 1Good morning!
