Cultural Note
Pushkin was a 19th century Russian poet, play wright, and novelist. His tale The Fisherman and the Golden Fish was originally a poem, published in 1833. The moral of the story is to be grateful for what you have. Even if one is lucky enough to catch a golden fsh, being too greedy can spoil that great opportunity.

Narrator:There was once a fisherman who lived in a small house by the sea with his wife. One day, something very special happened.

Scene One[The fisherman's hut.]
Fisherman:An amazing thing happened when l went fishing today! l caught a little golden fish. it could speak! it promised me whatever l wanted if l set it free.
Wife:At last, fortune smiles upon us! what did you wish for
Fisherman:Well ... I felt sorry for the fish, so l just put it back into the sea.
Narrator:His wife was very angry and made him find the fish.

第一场【渔夫小屋】
渔夫:我今天捕鱼时,发生了 一件神奇的事情!我捕 到了一条小金鱼。它会 说话!它许诺给我任何 我想要的东西,如果我 放了它的话。

渔夫:嗯……我觉得那条鱼挺 可怜的,就把它放回海 里了。
旁白:他的妻子非常生气,让 他去找那条鱼。
Scene Two [By the sea.]
Fisherman:Little golden fish, are you there
Golden fish: Hello, kind fisherman. What's the matter
Fisherman:My wife was very angry because I didn't make a wish. We need a new pot. Please give us one!
Narrator:The golden fish said yes, and it went back
into the water.

渔夫:小金鱼,你在吗
金鱼:您好,善良的渔夫。有什么事吗
渔夫:我妻子很生气,因为我没有许愿。我们需要一口新锅,请给我们一个吧!
旁白:金鱼答应了,然后它回到了水里。
Scene Three [The fisherman's hut.]
Narrator:Back home, the fisherman found a new pot outside the house.
Fisherman:Look, a new pot!
Wife:You fool! Can't you see we need a new house instead Go back again and ask for one!

I don't agree with what the fisherman and his wife did because they became too greedy and never felt satisfed.
If you know the ending of the play, tell a partner about it. If you don't know the ending, what do you think it might be
EG:The fisherman's wife kept asking for more, until she asked to be the ruler of the sea and to rule over the golden fish. In the end, the golden fish put an end to her growing greed by putting everything back to how it was at the start of the tale.
