This is the Unit 3 in Book 1 of New Standard English for Senior High School. The theme is "Sports and Fitness". In this unit important fundamentals of sports knowledge are presented in terms of sports events, sportsmanship and the culture of sports. This period of class is designed as listening and speaking part: Conversation 1 is about one person to invite his friends to a sports event, and the other conversation is talking about their opinions about sports, which is closely related to students' daily life with high interest arousal. Its theme calls for students to enjoy sports, learn from the sportsmanship and have a general understanding of sports culture.
Analysis of the students
Students
Senior high school students are full of curiosity and thirsty for knowledge. They can better obtain basic information by asking what, when and where, but they still need to improve their skills for combing and integrating information. In terms of oral expression, students have a general understanding of how to invite friends to a sports event, but their grasp of the use of some sentence patterns is not accurate and the relevant knowledge reserve is not systematic and comprehensive. In terms of pronunciation, they lack enough attention to pronunciation, intonation and stress, which is difficult to be flexibly used in daily communication.

1. Listening strategy
Listening is a silent and individual activity. There are two levels in the act of listening: A general recognition task of preserving the theme and the topic on the basis of visual signals. A cognitive task of obtaining the specific information in the materials aims at utilizing expressions in daily communication. Therefore, students need to develop some listening strategies such as intensive listening, extensive listening, global listening, and selective listening and so on. In this lesson students are instructed to develop the mentioned listening strategies above.

2. Communicative strategy
It is important to motivate students to learn and master some non-verbal communication means such as gestures, facial expressions, and body language that contribute to verbal expressions to state themselves clearly and logically in the oral presentation in their group and class work.
3. Resource strategy
It is an important channel for students to learn from the sports events in their reality as well as from books, magazines, and the Internet. Students should develop their ability to collect useful and needed information from a vast sea of information in the informationalized era. Simultaneously, students are required to search information to complete the tasks in the assignment after class.
