Because it’s the mum’s hometown. The family wants to be with grandparents and relatives. It’s a traditional time to get together with family, so they spend Spring Festival there.
The writer’s family members are very nice and loving. Grandpa and cousin wait for them in the cold. Grandpa helps carry luggage. Grandma prepares snacks. Parents help cook. Uncle tells jokes. They all care about each other and make the family warm.

二、引导让步状语从句(可理解为“无论……情况;不管多…… ” )
功能:把 “地点、情境” 极端化,强调 “不管啥条件/情况”,主句结果不变。
e.g. Wherever it is, I’ll find my lost key.

一、引导让步状语从句(核心用法)
功能:表示“无论/不管……”,后接疑问词(what/who/when/where/how等),强调“不管条件如何,主句结果不变”,相当于“疑问词+ever”。
1. no matter what(=whatever)
意为“无论什么”,后接句子或动词。
e.g. No matter what you say, I believe you.
无论你说什么,我都相信你。
2. no matter who(=whoever)
意为“无论谁”,后接主语+动词。
e.g. No matter who asks, don’t tell them the secret.
不管谁问,都别告诉他们这个秘密。

3. no matter when(=whenever)
意为“无论何时”,后接时间相关句子。
e.g. No matter when you come, I’ll be here.

4. no matter where(=wherever)

5. no matter how(=however)

二、结构注意事项
1. no matter + 疑问词 必须接完整句子,不能单独使用。
错误:No matter hard.(×)
正确:No matter how hard it is.(√)
2. 主句常用将来时(will+动词原形),从句用一般现在时表将来(“主将从现”)。
e.g. No matter when you arrive, I will wait for you.
