原材料解读 “What is your name " is a question most frequently asked when people meet for the first time. But for me, it was the first challenge l encountered as an international student in Ireland.
The pronunciation system of the Chinese language is quite different from that of English or native speakers of English, some Chinese words are rather difficult to pronounce. My given name Qiuyu (秋雨), for instance, happened to be a great challenge for many of them.Every time I gave a self-introduction, I had to explain how to pronounce my name at least five times, yet they still could not say it the way I did.
Once in a lecture, the professor tried repeating my name after me over and over in front of thirty classmates. I really did not know whether I should continue correcting him or simply drop the matter.
I feared that my classmates might grow tired of my efforts or even lose patience with me. After all, I did care about how others would think of me. I realized that if I didn't stop, the entire lecture would be ruined.“It's okay, professor,”I shrugged(耸肩).The wkward moment ended with the class erupting into laughter. I forced a smile, unsure how to respond further.
After that incident, l stopped acting as a “Chinese teacher.” Instead of correcting others when they were struggling to pronounce my name, I just smiled and nodded approvingly. This approach spared me the discomfort of having to over-explain. However. I soon found that by doing so, I might be losing something more important: the opportunity to share a small part of my cultural identity.
One possible version(原创范文1)
In a class discussion, l was invited to explain the meaning of my name. “l stood up without hesitation and opened up about my ideas.l explained that we Chinese are full of love for nature and often give their children names associated with nature. Literally,Qiuyu means autumn rain, which is full of natural beauty and poetic quality, symbolizing harvest and maturity(成熟), as well as new life, new hope, a beautiful future.” The whole class watched my face, hanging on every word(全神贯注地听).
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. They crowded/gathered around me,pouring out a flutter of(一连串的) questions about Chinese.“ What other Chinese names are connected with nature ”“ Can you give everyone of us a beautiful Chinese name "l made every endeavour to answer them one by one with patience and pride and granted (同意)whatever was requested.l enjoyed the interaction, through which l not only developed a strong sense of cultural identity but also promoted wider interest around the world in traditional Chinese culture.

In class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name. At first, hesitation and nervousness gripped me--- I dreaded hearing my name mispronounced yet again. But l recognized it was a rare opportunity to unveil the cultural significance .With renewed resolve,I stood and commenced, "My name, Qiuyu , means 'autumn rain'.My parents chose it because l was born on a rainy autumn night. To them, the gentle autumn rain symbolized tenderness----a quality my mother hoped I would embody in my life ."As I finished, l dared to glance around the room.To my amazement, every gaze(凝视) was fixed on me一attentive(专心的),respectful, and utterly absorbed(投入的).
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. They apologized for mispronouncing my name and expressed a keen interest in learning more about Chinese. After that class, more and more classmates were engaged in learning Chinese.Recognizing the growing demand for Chinese learning,I decided to establish an after-class Chinese Learning Group, which received an enthusiastic response. Through that, I no longer felt like a stranger in that foreign land.It was a powerful reminder that the charm of culture transcends borders(超越国界),uniting people(团结人民) in unexpected and meaningful ways.
