序数词
1.序数词的定义
表示事物顺序的数词叫序数词。它的作用相当于名词或者形容词,可
做主语、宾语、定语或表语。
例如:He is the sixth child in his family.他是他家里第六个孩子。
2.序数词的构成
(1) 1~19
基数词后加 th (1、2、3、5、8、9、12 除外)
例如:sixsixth fourteenfourteenth
(2)整十
把对应的基数词词尾 y 变为 ie,然后加 th。
例如:thirty→thirtietheighty→eightieth
(3)二十以上的非整十
二十以上的非整十的两位或两位以上的基数词变为序数词时,只将个
位数变为序数词。
例如: twentytwo→twentysecond one hundred and sixtyfive→one hundred and
sixtyfifth
(4) 1,2,3,5,8,9,12
特殊变化,单独记忆。
例如:one→first two→second three→third five→fifth eight→eighth nine→ninth
twelve→twelfth
3.序数词的用法
(1)the+序数词
序数词前加 the,表示“第几”。
例如:The Yellow River is the second longest river in China.黄河是中国第
二长河。 (2)作名词的定语 序数词常用作名词的定语,但当名词前已有形容词性物主代词、名词
所有格或指示代词等限定词时,则不再用定冠词 the。
例如:his fifth birthday 他五岁生日
(3) 表示"又一个”
序数词前有时也可以用不定冠词 a/an,这时不再表示在具体范围内的
“第几”,而是表示在原有基础上的“又一个;另一个"。
例如:I think l must do it a second time.我想这件事我必须再做一次。
(4)表示编号

表示编号时,常用“名词(首字母大写)+基数词"来表示,相当于“the+序数词+名词”。
例如:Lesson five=the fifth lesson 第五课
(5)表示分数
表示分数时,分子用基数词,分母用序数词。当分子大于 1 时,表示
分母的序数词要变为复数。
例如:one fourth 四分之一 two thirds 三分之二
4.序数词的缩写
序数词的缩写形式是在阿拉伯数字后面加上序数词的最后两个字母。
