In Nagpur, 17-year-old Tejas Pugalia, a senior high school student, is driven by a desire to help others. It all began in 2022 when he helped a boy with his studies. “As I taught him learned about the struggles children face in government schools," he said. "Many children didn't attend school during the rainy season because they didn't have bags, and their books would get ruined."
Determined to find a lasting solution, Tejas thought about the possibility of upcycling textile (纺织品) waste to create school bags that would be eco-friendly and affordable. This led to the birth of “Threads4Good", a project to recycle waste and help children.
Tejas faced a major challenge in finding people to help with the bag-making process."At first, I reached out to disabled people from underserved communities, but some were unwilling to work with children, doubting whether they could earn a stable(稳定的) income." he recalled. However, his determination led him to organizations like the SunLink and Helplink Foundation, who work with disabled people. With their support, starting with just two workers, more people gradually joined.
To date, The team has handed out over 3,000 bags, saving over 70 million litres of water, and preventing 58,000 kg of carbon emissions, and recycling more than 3,600 kg of textile waste. School attendance in target areas has increased by 34%.
With over 400 volunteers in India and Toronto, Tejas plans to file a Public Interest Litigation (公益诉讼) under the Right to Education Act to hold the government responsible for school attendance. “One of the key responsibilities of the government is to ensure proper attendance in schools and provide necessary facilities. Unfortunately, this isn't being done well." he says. “In the long run, we also want to introduce mid-day meals in government schools so that children don't have to worry about their next meal."
24.What inspired Tejas to start Threads4Good

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is one of the most loved children's books of all time, and many adults enjoy it as well. It tells the story of a young girl named Alice, who follows a rabbit entering a magical world called Wonderland. She has many experiences which seem to change the rules of reasoning or common sense. The popularity of the book comes from its imagination, interesting story, and art work.
The writer of the book is Lewis Carroll. In fact, Lewis Carroll was not the writer's real name. His real name was Charles Dodgson. One day, he took a boat ride down the Thames River to have a picnic with three little girls who were friends of the family. To keep them entertained (娱乐) on the ride, he told them a story in which Alice, the middle child, was the main character. They enjoyed the story very much.
Charles later wrote the story down under the name Alice's Adventures Under Ground and gave it to Alice as a Christmas present. Later, he gave a copy to his friend George MacDonald. George read it to his children and they loved it. George suggested to Charles that he make a book from his story. Charles then wrote more parts to the story until it was around35,000 words. It was first printed in 1866, with art work by John Tenniel, under the name Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The book was an immediate success. One of its first fans was Queen Victoria. She immediately requested a collection of all of Lewis Carroll's works. She was surprised to find that they included many works on math. In fact, Charles Dodgson was a highly respected mathematician. This can be seen in many puzzles and plays on reasoning that appear in his books and poems.
Since the story was first printed, it has kept selling up to the present day. It has been translated into over fifty languages and has had several movies based on it.
28.What do we know about the book
A. It tells the real story of a young girl named Alice.
B. It is about a wonderful world Alice is dreaming of.
C. It contains interesting stories, pictures and imagination.
D. It describes a magical world full of wonders on the earth.
29.Who put forward the idea of making the book
A. Lewis Carroll. B. Charles Dodgson.
C. George MacDonald. D. John Tenniel.
30.What can we learn about Charles from the text
A. He was a successful adventure seeker.
B. He was expert at writing on reasoning.
C. He wrote the book under his real name.
D.He had millions of famous fans like Queen Victoria.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A. An Interesting and Imaginary Story
B.A Young Girl's Adventurous Experiences
C. The Popularity of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
D. The Story Behind Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

The same dirt that sticks to astronauts’ boots may one day keep their lights on. In a study published in the Cell Press Journal Device, researchers created solar cells (太阳能电池) made from man-made Moon dust. The cells turn sunlight into energy and reduce the need for transporting heavy materials into space, offering a solution to one of space exploration's biggest challenges: reliable energy sources.
"The solar cells used in space now are amazing, reaching efficiencies (性能) of 30% to even 40%, says lead researcher Felix Lang of the University of Potsdam, Germany.“ But they are very expensive and are relatively heavy due to their glass covers."
Instead of transporting cells from Earth, Lang's team is looking to materials on the Moon. They aim to replace Earth-made glass with glass made from the Moon dust. To test the idea, the researchers made a material similar to Moon dust into Moon-glass and used it to build a new kind of solar cell. When the team tested the solar cells with space-grade radiation(辐射),the Moon-glass versions outperformed the Earth-made ones. Standard glass slowly browns in space, blocking sunlight and reducing efficiency. But Moon-glass has a natural brown color from tiny bits of lunar dust, which keeps the glass strong, prevents it from further darkening, and makes the cells better at surviving radiation. Making Moon-glass, the team found, is surprisingly simple. Concentrated sunlight alone can provide the extreme temperatures needed to melt (熔化) Moon dust into glass. By changing the thickness of the Moon-glass and the solar cell's composition, the team managed to achieve 10% efficiency. With clearer Moon-glass that lets in more light, they believe they could reach 23%.
Still, the Moon causes challenges that Earth doesn't. Lower gravity could change how Moon-glass forms. Wild temperature changes could threaten the materials' stability (稳定性). The team hopes to test them out in real lunar conditions.
32.What is the main advantage of the solar cells made from Moon dust
A. It is cheaper and lighter.
B. It can get higher efficiency.
C. It needs less sunlight to function.
D. It doesn't require advanced equipment.
33.Why does Moon-glass perform better than Earth-made glass
A. It can collect more energy in lower gravity.
B. It slowly browns in outer space and keeps strong.
C. It functions well in space radiation and maintains efficiency.
D. It can reflect radiation to protect cells and gain more energy.
34.How do researchers create Moon-glass according to the text
A. By using advanced equipment brought from the Earth.
B. By melting Moon dust with concentrated sunlight.
C. By changing the solar cell's composition.
D. By breaking up the Moon dust.
35.What challenges do the researchers face in using Moon-glass solar cells
A. The effects of lower gravity and extreme temperture changes.
B. The inability to create enough glass from Moon dust.
C. The difficulty in achieving higher efficiency.
D. The lack of sunlight on the Moon.

Work was the last thing in his mind. When the grasshopper was walking about leisurely in the fields he saw the ants struggling with heavy crumbs(食物碎屑) and laughed. “Why work so hard, little ants Come, enjoy the warm sun and sing with me! Life is too short to waste on work!" The ant that was heading at the front replied without stopping, "“Sorry, but we're busy storing food for winter. You should do the same instead of wasting time.”
The grasshopper sneered. “Winter That's so far away! And this is such a wonderful day to play. Why should I worry now " He shrugged and continued his merry dance, ignoring the ants' advice. Later, he met some squirrels that were covering something with leaves and grass by their paws. Obviously, they were hiding nuts and preparing for winter. The grasshopper asked them to join his fun. But the squirrels, too, refused his invitation, saying it was time to get ready for the future and they spared no time to join his fun. The grasshopper didn't care at all what they said and continued singing and dancing as before.
As days went on, the cold winter arrived and it was freezing everywhere. There was a thick blanket of snow covering the field and food became scarce(缺乏).The grasshopper couldn't dig through it to have food. He found himself dying of hunger and coldness. 第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (满分15分)
Possible version 1:
Dear Julian,
I’m thrilled about your upcoming lecture! I’d suggest focusing on the evolution of classical music, particularly the transition from Baroque to Romantic posers like Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven created timeless masterpieces that still touch audiences today.
This topic would be welcome among us because many students enjoy classical music without realizing its historical roots. Exploring how these composers expressed human emotions through melody could deepen our appreciation. Such content would be both educational and engaging, combining history with auditory examples.
Thank you for considering my idea. I’m eagerly looking forward to your lecture!
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible version 2:
Dear Julian,
I'm writing to share some ideas about your upcoming Western art lecture. I think focusing on the Renaissance period would be fascinating. In this era, numerous masterpieces sprang up like Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, which continues to influence art today.
The Renaissance is particularly meaningful because it represents a crucial moment when art, science and humanism joined up. Many students are familiar with this topic but may not understand its historical significance. A lecture to explore it could provide cultural context while keeping us engaged.
Thank you for your consideration. I'm really looking forward to your presentation!
Yours,
Li Hua

One possible version :
As the grasshopper shook in the snow, regret washed over him. He remembered how he laughed at the ants and squirrels for their hard work. And he recalled the ants’tireless labor and the squirrels’ careful preparations. Now, the ants’ and squirrels’nests were warm and full, while he had nothing and felt freezing cold. A deep shame settled over him as he realized his mistake. Pride kept him from working, and yet pride would not fill his empty stomach. With the last bit of strength, he dragged himself toward the ants’nest again, not to beg, but to apologize.
To the grasshopper’s relief, he was allowed in the ants’nest. The kind ants took pity on him. They offered him a small corner for rest and a little bit of food to eat. The grasshopper was extremely grateful and apologized for his previous behavior. He promised that he would work hard and not be lazy. The ants forgave him and taught him how to store food. From then on, the grasshopper worked hard every summer day and prepared for winter, and his beautiful songs were still heard in the fields. Amazingly, he no longer faced hunger or cold.

M: Did you watch the football game on TV last night
W: No, I missed it. I went to look after my grandma while my mother was working overtime at the company.
Text 2
W: This shopping street is amazing!
M: It surely is. Aren’t you tired Let’s stop by the bench for a few minutes.
W: OK, let’s go to the cafe for a refreshment.
Text 3
M: My phone says there are going to be lots of clouds with the sun breaking through occasionally. No rain is expected.
W: Oh well, I’ll keep the raincoat at home.
Text 4
W: Hurry up! It’s already 4:30.
M: Don’t worry. We only need 10 minutes to get to the cinema and we still have 25 minutes before the movie starts.

M: Hi, Maria. Did you hear that there is a meeting chaired by Mr. Johnson this Wednesday
W: Yes, I did. I think it’s about electing the new monitor.

W: Mr. Smith, here are the personal information of two applicants I picked this morning. They’ve hosted several English-speaking campus events before.
M: Experience is a plus, but we still need to figure out their ability to handle English conversations flexibly through an interview.

M:Tomorrow is packed. Let’s do the day after tomorrow at 2 PM.

M: Hello, Susan. Have you heard about the chess competition
W: Not yet. Anything special
M: Well, I suppose you would never be able to guess who came first.
W: Is it Oliver or Ethan Those two are very competitive in our school chess club.
M: I’m sorry to tell you that your guess is not right. The champion is Lucas. It is surprising to everybody. He beat 12 other players, lost only 3, and played no draws.
W: Lucas is a lucky dark horse. How about Oliver or Ethan
M: Well, Oliver only ranks seventh, and Ethan is better. He ranks fourth.
W: Anyway, I’m still wondering how Lucas can be so successful.
M: I don't know, either. But both Ethan and Oliver were suffering from the flu at the time.
W: That’s probably part of the reason.

W: Hi, Mr. Park. I heard robots were brought into our community dining rooms last month. How’s it going
M: Yeah, it’s true. We introduced them to make senior dining services easier. So far, it’s been working quite well.
W: That’s interesting. But some people around here worry that the robots might take their jobs. What’s your opinion
M: Well, I think bringing in modern technology like robots is a great move for our community. But don’t worry, we’ll still have jobs that robots can’t do.
W: Like what kind of jobs
M: We’re planning to arrange some special events for the seniors, like art shows and game competitions. These need human creativity.
W: Oh, I see. So the staff in the dining rooms will have new tasks then
M: Exactly. They’ll be in charge of organizing these events. It’s important to let them know about our plans early, because getting used to new tasks can be hard.
W: You’re right. Good planning can make the period of changing smoother.

W: Good morning! How can I help you
M: I’m calling to rent a one-bedroom apartment, preferably near public transport.
W: Sure thing! We have two options that fit your needs. The first is on Pine Street --- a modern unit with a spacious bedroom, updated kitchen, large bathroom, and sunny living room. Best part It’s just a 5-minute walk to the subway.
M: Sounds convenient! What’s the monthly rent
W: The house owner charges $1,800 per month.
M: Hmm, slightly over my budget... Could I see the second option
W: The second apartment is on Maple Avenue. The rent is $1,600 monthly. It’s smaller but it has everything, cooker, fridge, even a dishwasher. Though not as close to the subway as Pine Street, the bus stop’s just around the corner. It is very convenient to get around. Plus, there’s a supermarket across the street.
M: That actually works better for me - I take buses more often. Could I check out both places before deciding
W: Absolutely! I’ll schedule viewings right away.

M: There is a saying,“China has the best teahouses in the world and Chengdu has the best teahouses in China.”After I came to Chengdu, I often go to the teahouse, because the atmosphere is completely different from that in the coffee shops in my country. Every time I enter the teahouse. the waiters or waitresses will greet me with a smile on their faces and with teapots and cups in their hands. People who go there are not all thirsty, because teahouses are also good places for business talk. I’ve invited my business partner to meet there. Some teahouses even have stages for performances, such as storytelling, cross talk and Sichuan Opera. Besides, like-minded people pay a little money and then can sit there all day long to chat with each other. Sometimes when a group of people have an argument, a peacekeeper will bring them to the teahouse. It’s interesting that as soon as the angry people sit down to drink tea, they almost calm down. With the help of the peacekeeper, their problems can be easily settled. The person who is wrong will pay for the tea and then they make it up. This makes me believe that teahouses have some powerful social functions.
