Most people in their eighties would consider themselves lucky not to have health problems, but this is not the case with Toshisuke Kanazawa. The 82-year-old Japanese bodybuilder is not only in perfect physical condition, he also looks better than a lot of men a quarter his age.
Kanazawa is living proof (证明) that you’re never too old to hit the gym and achieve the body you’ve always dreamed of. A champion bodybuilder in his youth, Kanazawa stopped exercising completely after he retired at age 34, drinking, smoking and eating whatever he liked. It wasn’t until he turned 50 that he got his motivation to regain the perfect body of his younger years.
Kanazawa’s wife felt sick frequently, and the former bodybuilder remembered that she had never been happier than when he won the national championship. So to please her, he decided to return to the gym and completely change his diet.
His workout schedule had to be adjusted to his age as well. In his youth, he would spend up to six hours training in the gym every day, and his body would recover within two days after a particularly intensive (强化的) workout, but that was not the case anymore. He cut the daily gym time to three hours and started giving his body one week to recover after exercising every muscle group.
Kanazawa’s efforts paid off. In 2016, at the age of 80, Kanazawa defeated many opponents and placed sixth in the world in a contest for bodybuilders over 65, and won the admiration of the crowd.
Sport keeps this elderly man healthy, as he claims not to have suffered so much as a cold since he started bodybuilding again at age 50.
“I want to be a super old man in the bodybuilder community,” Kanazawa said, “If I have a goal, I can continue moving forward. I have to work much harder.”
24. What can we learn about Kanazawa from Paragraph 2
A. He started bodybuilding at the age of 34. B. He seldom exercised when he was young
C. He had serious health problems in his childhood. D. He developed an unhealthy lifestyle after he retired.
25. Why did Kanazawa decide to take up exercise again
A. To help change his diet. B. To cheer up his wife.
C. To stand to his promise. D. To recover from illness.
26 What did old Kanazawa do while rebuilding his body
A. He took the same workout schedule. B. He turned to the doctors for advice.
C. He combined relaxation with exercise. D. He spent over six hours training every day.
27. What can be the best title for the text
A. Bodybuilding: No Age Limit B. Champion: The Result of Workout
C. Exercise: The Best Medicine for Illnesses D. Understanding: A Guarantee of Happiness

For the first time, scientists have grown plants in moon soil collected by NASA’s Apollo astronauts.
Seeing the results, Robert Ferl of the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences said, “Plants actually grow in lunar stuff. Are you kidding me ” He and other researchers planted thale cress, a small flowering plant, in moon soil returned from the Apollo missions.
The good news was that all of the seeds grew. The bad news was that after the first week, the lunar soil stressed the plants so much that they grew slowly. Most of the moon plants were stunted. The longer the soil was exposed to radiation (辐射) and solar wind on the moon, the worse the plants seemed to do. The soil collected by the Apollo 11 mission was the least helpful for growth.
Simon Gilroy of the University of Wisconsin-Madison said,“ This is a big step forward to know that you can grow plants.” Gilroy added, “The real next step is to go and do it on the surface of the moon.”
Moon dirt is full of glass particles (颗粒), which got in the Apollo lunar landers and wore down the moonwalkers’ spacesuits. One solution might be to use younger geologic (地质的) spots on the moon, like lava flows (熔岩流), for digging up soil. The environment also could be changed by adding special nutrient mixtures or artificial lighting.
Only 382 kilograms of moon rocks and soil were brought back by the six Apollo crews that landed on the moon. Most of them are still locked away, forcing researchers to experiment with soil made of volcanic ash on Earth. In 2021, NASA finally gave out 12grams of soil to the University of Florida researchers for the planting experiment. NASA said the timing for such an experiment was right, with the space agency looking to put astronauts back on the moon soon.
28. What can we know about Ferl’s experiment
A. The plants planted grew quickly. B. It ended after the Apollo missions.
C. It was conducted on the moon surface. D. The results made him feel unbelievable.
29. What does the underlined word “stunted” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Appealing. B. Super. C. Unsafe. D. Undeveloped.
30. Which of the following can be inferred about soils from younger geologic spots
A. They mainly include lava flows. B. They can serve as artificial lighting.
C. They might have fewer glass particles. D. They have nothing to do with moon dirt.
31. Why did NASA believe the suitable timing arrived
A. More astronauts would be sent to collect moon soil again.
B. Some moon soil had been shared with other researchers.
C. Apollo crews returned with enough moon dirt and rocks.
D. Researchers were unwilling to experiment with earth stuff.
D
Engineers from the University at Buffalo, Fudan University in China, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison have come together with funding from the National Science Foundation to produce an efficient and cost-effective device that purifies drinking water using the world’s most abundant power source-the sun.
More than 2, 300 years ago, the philosopher Aristotle described the water cycle. He has explained that water is heated by the sun, evaporates (蒸发) up into the air, condenses (凝结) into drops, and then falls back to the ground, pure and free of pollutants.
Professor Qiaoqiang Gan and the other engineers created a method of purifying water that builds upon Aristotle’s ancient observations. Gan’s team invented a solar water purifier that is a modern version of an evaporative solar still. This device looks like the roof of a tent, with strips of carbon-coated paper covering the top so that the paper strip hangs down on the sides. The ends of the paper strip dip into a water container at the bottom. Gradually, the water in the container is absorbed by the paper. When the black carbon coating on the paper is heated by the sun, the wet paper begins to dry. During evaporation, salt, dirt, bacteria, and other pollutants are trapped in the paper. As the temperature cools, water droplets begin to condense on the surface of the paper. The purified water is collected in a clean container and is ready to drink.
There are a few key advantages of the solar water purifier. First, the device is quick and efficient. The solar still can generate up to 5 gallons of clean water daily, which is enough to provide sufficient drinking water for a family. Furthermore, this solar water purifier is cheaper than other water-purification devices because it is made with inexpensive and widely available materials.
There are also disadvantages in terms of the adaptation to diverse environments on Earth and the building up of salt in the process. Currently, the engineers are working to make their purifier available worldwide. Soon, drinkable water will be purified and accessible where it is needed.
32. Why does the author mention Aristotle and the water cycle in the text
A. To catch readers’ attention and interest.
B. To add more authority to the new invention.
C. To show the history of the solar water purifier.
D. To help illustrate the basic working principles of the invention
33. What is the main function of the carbon-coated paper
A. To cover the top. B. To collect clean water.
C. To hang down on the sides. D. To absorb water and heat from the sun.
34. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. What the researchers have done.
B. How the solar water purifier works.
C. What the solar water purifier can do.
D. How similar Aristotle’s observation is to the purifier.
35. What might the author think of the future of the solar water purifier
A. Dark. B. Uncertain. C. Promising. D. Unpredictable.

No one is born a winner. People make themselves into winners by their own efforts. I learned this lesson from an experience many years ago. I took the head coaching job at a school in Baxley, Georgia. It was a small school with a weak football program. The school took part in the league matches every year. However, it never ended well. We were more of the audience, watching and cheering instead of sweating out in the fields.
Fortunately, the school held the tradition that the school’s old team was to play against the new team at the end of spring practice. For lack of resources, the old team bad no coach, and they didn’t even practice to prepare for the game.
I was assigned (指派) as the coach of the new team, which was why I was excited. I believed that we were going to win, but to my disappointment, we were defeated. I couldn’t believe I had got into such a situation. Thinking hard about it, I tried to figure out the reason and what I should do next.
It didn’t take long before I came to realize that my team was depending on me. Without proper guidance or previous experience, my team was at a loss what to do. I had to change my attitude so that I could bring out the best in them about their ability and potential.
I would let my action do the talking. First, I started doing anything I could to help them build a little pride. I could see their spirits lifted, with their head held high in great confidence. Most importantly, I began to treat them like winners. Only when they regarded themselves as winners could they willingly invest time and energy.
This summer, the other teams enjoyed their vacations.

Smart Use of AI Tools
Dear fellow students,
With the rapid development of AI technologies, many of us are using such tools as ChatGPT or DeepSeek to search for answers to our schoolwork, which not only harms our learning but also affects our thinking.
Therefore, I advocate using AI wisely in our study. For example, we can use it to explain complex concepts, improve our drafts, or generate study questions when necessary. In a word, it should be used to promote learning rather than replacing it.
Let’s try to be smart users of AI and use it to enhance our learning, not to shortcut our education.
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】
This summer, the other teams enjoyed their vacations. We met every day and practiced passing and kicking the football. At first, some complained that even the hardest practice couldn't change the fact that they were the last. The whole team was covered by the sense of depression and failure. What I could do at that time was to company them and try to cheer them up. Encouraged by my persistence, the team gathered the spirit of trying again and practiced even harder. This time, we sweated out in the fields instead of being the audience, watching and cheering. Every inch of the field has seen the effort of my team.
Six months later, football season started. After suffering our failure on the spring practice field, we won our first game and our second, and continued to improve. Finally, we faced the number one team in the state. I felt that it would be a victory for us even if we lost the game. But that wasn't what happened. My boys beat the best team in Georgia, giving me one of the greatest thrills of my life! From the game I learned a lot about how the attitude of the leader can influence the members of a team. Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I pushed and encouraged them. I helped them to see themselves differently, and they built themselves into winners. Winners are made, not born.
