安全理事会（简称安理会）由中、法、俄、英、美5个常任理事国和10个非常任理事国组成，是唯一有权采取行动维护国际和平与安全的机构。每个理事国都有1个投票权，程序问题要至少9票才能通过。安理会对国际问题的调停和裁决实行5个常任理事国一致的原则（大国一致原则），即每项决议只要有一个常任理事国投否决票，便不能通过。

1945年10月24日，是联合国成立的日子，联合国由主权国家组成，在维护世界和平、缓和国际紧张局势、促进世界各国的经济、科学、文化的合作与交流方面，都有着不可磨灭的积极作用。联合国总部的大楼里，一直摆放着各个成员国送给联合国的礼物，每一样都有着深切的寓意。这些礼品绝大多数是绘画、雕塑和挂毯等，有的还是价值连城的文物。联合国刚成立的时候，各成员国对联合国寄予厚望，赠送礼物以表示支持。

What presents did China give to the UN

成昆象牙雕是1974年中国赠送给联合国的礼物，它描述的是1970年通车的成昆铁路。1984年，“成昆铁路”牙雕与苏联第一颗人造卫星模型、美国“阿波罗”宇宙飞船带回的月球岩石，作为象征人类进入宇宙、征服自然的3件划时代物品，被授予“联合国特别奖”。
