二、阅读理解
Spain is home to nearly 20,000 villages, wildly rich in architecture (建筑), traditions and culture. Here are some of the most beautiful ones that you may want to explore.
Ronda, Andalusia
Set above a deep canyon (峡谷), Ronda is made up of two parts: the old Moorish settlement and the 15th-century town. In the 18th century, they were connected by a stone bridge, Puente Nuevo, forming today’s Ronda. The town is filled with history, from the Moorish and Spanish architecture to the Moorish city walls. Ronda’s baths were built at the end of the 13th century and are maintained best in Spain.
Frigiliana, Andalusia
Andalusia is filled with white villages around its countryside and Frigiliana is one of the best-kept of them all. Settled on the side of a mountain, the old-fashioned town is a postcard image of Arab architecture. The old town is well maintained, with winding streets climbing the mountain and white buildings decorated with colorful flowers.
Cadaques, Catalonia
Cadaques is another white village on the Mediterranean rocky coast. Part of a natural park, the town can be reached only through a narrow road, which is probably why its old attraction is still undamaged. Well known as a place Salvador Dali often visited for artistic inspiration, today there is a sculpture of the painter in the town center in front of the sea.
Castellfollit de la Roca, Catalonia
The town of Castellfollit de la Roca is set on a narrow cliff (悬崖) at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains. The unique shape of the cliff is due to the power of the two surrounding rivers, Fluvià and Toronell, on the remains of the cooled volcanic lava (岩浆) thousands of years ago. The town is tiny, with less than 1 km2 making up its walkable area.

C.It contains more than one historical part. D.It holds the Moorish culture festival every year.
22.What do Frigiliana and Cadaques have in common
A.They have buildings of the same color. B.They are close to natural parks.
C.They offer chances to climb the mountain. D.They are famous for great artists.
23.Who would most likely be interested in visiting Castellfollit de la Roca
A.Adventurers planning to explore canyons. B.Scientists studying volcanic landscapes.
C.Fans of artworks by famous painters. D.Shopping lovers seeking local goods.
Last year, Brazilian cyclist Marcos Santos was at the best time of his career (事业). He had just won a major regional race and was eyeing the national championships. But a motorcycle accident changed everything. The 24-year-old almost lost his left leg, leaving him unable to walk, let alone ride a bike. Doctors said his cycling career might have to come to an end.
Marcos, who was studying sports science at the University of S o Paulo, was heartbroken. For the first several days, he lay in the hospital bed and thought about how to deal with the rest of his life. In the end, he chose not to give in. With the support of his family and coaches, he began a long and hard process. Every day, he received physical treatment, relearning basic movements. “It was the darkest time of my life,” he said.
Slowly, Marcos made progress. He found adaptive cycling, which uses specially designed bikes for disabled (残疾的) athletes. With a newfound hope, he combined his study with intense training on his adapted bike. His professors encouraged him, providing flexible study schedules so he could focus on recovery and training.
There were days when pain made training unbearable, and self-doubt threatened to beat him. But he pushed through, inspired by his love for the sport.
Coach Oliveira, who had trained Marcos for years, was amazed by his performance. “Marcos proves that if you have the courage to keep going, nothing is impossible,” he stated.
This year, Marcos made a remarkable comeback at the South American Adaptive Cycling Championships. Though he didn’t win, his presence on track was a victory in itself. “I’m hack the bike, that’s all that matter. If my story can give hope to others facing similar problems, that would mean everything,” Marcos shared.
24.What happened to Marcos last year
A.He suffered serious leg injuries.
B.He took a totally different career path.
C.He performed worse than expected.
D.He won the national cycling championship.
25.How did Marcos originally react to his injury

D.He immediately started training again.
26.Why did Marcos return to competitive cycling
A.To become a cycling coach.
B.To prove an athlete should aim high.
C.To test the limits of adaptive cycling technology.
D.To inspire others to face their challenges bravely.
27.Which of the following words can best describe Marcos
A.Creative and confident. B.Energetic and careful.
C.Patient and humorous. D.Responsible and determined.
Pudus are one of the smallest deer species in the world. Only about 10,000 pudus remain in the wild, and they are listed as near-threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It is people that bear the main responsibility for the threat of extinction that pudus face. We’ve continuously taken away their living spaces through various development projects, and the introduction of harmful species like wild dogs in southern Argentina and Chile has worsened the situation.
Recently, a pudu was born in Argentina. Workers at the nonprofit organization Temaiken Foundation named the baby pudu Lenga after a tree species in the Andean Patagonian Forest of Chile and Argentina. “It’s a very mysterious animal. It’s not easy to spy such an animal in the wild,” said Maximiliano Krause, Lenga’s caretaker at the nonprofit organization.
Krause says Lenga is now spending his days exploring the park with his mother, Chalten, and father, Nicolino. At birth, the white-spotted pudu weighed just 1.21 kilograms. Lenga is feeding on the milk of his mother for the first two months until he can eat plants on his own.
After that, Lenga will lose his white spots, which helps small deer hide from both daytime and nighttime predators (捕食者). At about one year old, pudus grow horns that reach up to 10 centimeters. When pudus are run after by predators, they escape in a zig-zag manner.
On average, pudus can grow up to 50 centimeters tall and weigh up to 12 kilograms. “This pudu’s birth is especially meaningful for us,” said Krause.
Lenga will give scientists and environmentalists a chance to study and collect data on the small deer, offer hope of saving them from dying out, and at the same time, help with protection efforts for other Patagonian deer, like the huemul.
28.What leads pudus to be in danger of extinction
A.Human activities. B.Their small size.
C.The lack of food resources. D.Frequent natural disasters.
29.What does the underlined word “spy” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Select. B.Identify. C.Protect. D.Cure.
30.What can be learned about pudus according to the text
A.They are particular about what they cat.
B.Their appearance changes as they grow.
C.Their predators mainly appear in the day.
D.They are highly adaptable to the environment.
31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.The Difficult Life of Pudus
B.A New Finding in Pudu Rescarch
C.Measures Are Taken to Protect Pudus
D.A Tiny Deer’s Birth Brings Hope for Survival
Scientific company Neuralink announced that a third person has had a special electronic device (装置) directly connected to his brain. The person received an implant (植入体) from the company Neuralink, which produces devices that link the human brain to computers.
Neuralink is one of many companies working to connect the human nervous system to machines. An expert of the company said, “We’ve got… three humans with Neuralinks and all are working well.”
Neuralink announced its first brain implant one year ago. Recently, the company has improved its devices. Neuralink hopes to implant the experimental devices in 20 to 30 more people this year. The first patient, paralyzed (瘫痪) after a spinal cord injury, said it helped him play video games and chess. The second patient suffered a similar injury and got the implant last summer. The person can now play video games with the help of the device and is learning how to use design software.
Many other companies and research groups are working on similar projects. Two studies published last year described how brain-computer interfaces (接口), known as BCIs, helped people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) communicate better. ALS is a nervous system disease that affects cells in the brain and the spinal cord. There have been published results from 28 trials worldwide of BCIs over the past 25 years.
Neuralink might be different from the others in two ways. First, the operation to implant the device is the first to use a robot to fix flexible electrical connectors into a human brain to record brain signals and to control devices. Second, those connectors might record from more parts of the brain than interfaces from other research.
Marco Baptista is chief scientific officer of the Christopher Dana Reeve Foundation. He called BCI technology “very exciting” with possible benefits to people with paralysis.
Neuralink announced in 2023 that it had received permission from U. S. officials to begin testing its device in people.
32.Why does the author mention two patients playing video games
A.To compare two brain injury cases.
B.To show the technology works well.
C.To explain the fixing process of the device.
D.To stress the benefit of playing video games.
33.What makes Neuralink different from its competitors
A.It focuses on treatments for ALS patients.
B.It specializes in spinal cord injury recovery.
C.It owns more technological advantages.
D.It is funded by the government.
34.What is Marco Baptista’s attitude towards BCI technology
A.Mixed. B.Uncaring. C.Doubtful. D.Supportive.
35.What does the text mainly talk about
A.The impacts of BCI technology on human health.
B.How Neuralink works with other companies on BCI research.
C.The challenges faced by Neuralink in developing BCI technology.
D.The unique features and development of Neuralink’s BCI technology.

Tom was a regular figure on the school football field, and his skills were so impressive despite the worn-out sports shoes he wore. Off the field, his life was hard for various reasons. His mother had been ill in bed for several years, and his father recently lost his job, leaving the family even poorer. However, Tom never let his difficult situations reduce his love for football.
One day, the coach announced to the players that there would be a football match, and all players were required to wear proper sports uniforms (制服). Tom was worried. He stared at his worn shoes, wondering how he could possibly ask his parents for money they didn’t have. That night, he lay awake, practicing making excuses in his head—maybe he’d pretend to be sick. But deep inside, he knew he couldn’t do that. However, the thought of missing the game and letting his team down troubled him.
During a break the next day. Tom just sat alone, staring at the ground, while the others talked excitedly with each other. Jack, the team captain, finally cornered him after practice. “What’s up. Tom There seems to be something wrong with you.” At first, Tom hesitated, but Jack’s genuine (真诚的) concern broke through his pride. “It’s the uniform,” he said in a low voice. “I can’t afford it.” And more than that, he explained to Jack the difficult situation his family was in. Hearing that, Jack just patted (轻拍) him on the shoulder without saying a word.
That day, the team gathered without Tom after practice. “We can’t let this happen,” Jack said. “Tom’s the best player we’ve got; we must do something to help him and his family.” They tried their best to come up with ideas to collect money and decided on a car wash.
On Saturday morning, the school parking lot was totally changed. Signs reading “Football for Tom — Wash a Car. Change a Life” were everywhere, and the team worked tirelessly on the cars and shared Tom’s story with anyone who’d listen. By evening, the team had raised more than enough for the uniform.

67.One possible version:
When Jack gave Tom a new uniform and an envelope the next day, Tom’s eyes widened. “We didn’t just get the uniform,” Jack said, explaining there was extra money for his mom’s medicine. Tom felt that his throat tightened. He knew that, in the envelope, there was not just money, but the love of his teammates. “Why are you doing this ” he asked, his voice shaking. “Because we’re a team,” Jack said with a smile. “And teammates take care of each other.” For the first time in months, Tom felt a warm, strong hope — not just for the game, but for the family he had found on the field.
The day of the match came, and Tom walked onto the field confidently. Wearing the new uniform, he felt the support from his teammates. The game was intense but full of warmth. Tom and his teammates fought together, and their perfect cooperation and hard work made the ball fly freely on the field. Though the opponents were strong, they never gave up. Finally, with a beautiful teamwork goal, they won the game. After the match, Tom stood with his teammates, looking at the cheering crowd. He realized he was not alone. With the care and help of his teammates, he could overcome any difficulty.
