四、阅读理解
One sunny afternoon, Alice sat by the riverbank with her sister. She felt very bored.
Suddenly, a white rabbit with pink eyes ran past her, shouting, “Oh dear! I’llbe late!”
Alice was surprised. She had never seen a rabbit carrying a pocket watch! Curious (好奇的), she jumped up and followed it.
The rabbit hurried into a large rabbit hole, and without thinking, Alice went in after it. The hole was very deep—Alice fell down, down, down.
“Either this hole is very deep, or I’m falling very slowly!” she said aloud but calmly.
When she fell, she passed shelves with jars labeled (被贴着标签) “ORANGE MARMALADE” and books with no pictures. She was surprised and wanted to know why they were there.
Finally, she landed softly on a pile of dry leaves. She stood up and looked around. She was in a long, dark hallway with many doors.
Alice tried to open them, but all were locked (锁上的). Then she saw a tiny golden key on a glass table. It fit only the smallest door—just 15 inches high.
She knelt down and looked through the keyhole. In front of her eyes are a beautiful garden with bright flowers.

When we were traveling in Yangon, Myanmar, in 2017, my mother and I got off our tour bus to buy some ice cream. But later, we saw that the bus had left without us. My mom tried to call for help, but there was no phone signal (信号). We didn’t know what to do. I started looking around instead. A beautiful lake nearby caught my attention. A dragon boat was quietly on the lake. I also saw children running to the street to pick up pretty stones. Seeing the beautiful view of Yangon made us feel more relaxed. A few moments later, the bus came back to pick us up. When things are uncertain (不确定的), it is important to stay calm and have a positive view.

Luckily, a friendly stranger helped me and we exchanged some cash. I finally solved the problem. This trip taught me an important lesson: ▲

Chinese people think honesty (诚实) is very important. Many stories throughout history show us the importance of this virtue. Let’s take a look at two of them.
The first story is about Ji Bu, a general (将军) in the Western Han Dynasty. Whenever Ji made a promise, he would do everything he could to keep it. People respected his honesty, and a saying widely spread, “It is better to have a promise from Ji Bu than to get lots of gold (黄金).” Later, the saying turned into an idiom, “A promise is worth (值) lots of gold.” Even today, we still use it to describe an honest person.
The other story is about a businessman named Li Daquan. During the Qing Dynasty, people mainly used gold, silver and copper as money. It was all heavy. Carrying a lot of money was also risky (有风险的) because people could be robbed. One day, a friend suggested that Li set up bank branches (分行) and use drafts (汇票). When people put their money in one branch, they would get a draft. They could then use the draft to get their money back from other branches.
Li liked the idea and acted quickly. Words soon got around. Li’s honesty in running his bank brought him many customers. His bank, called Rishengchang, grew to 35 branches across the country. As China’s first modern bank, it paved (铺设) the way for the banking system in the country.
58.Was Ji Bu a general from Qing Dynasty
59.What did Li’s honesty in running his bank bring to him
60.How did the drafts change the way people carried their money
61.Just as the idiom says, “A promise is worth lots of gold.” What did you do to keep one of your promises Please give an example. (no more than 25 words)

Many people believe in the “five-second rule”—if you pick up dropped food within five seconds, it’s safe to eat. But is this true
Experts don’t think so. Schaffner, a food science professor, explains that bacteria (细菌) can move to food right away. “Bacteria don’t have legs. They move with the liquid (液体). The more liquid in the food, the more easily it gets bacteria, ” Schaffner says. For example, if a piece of watermelon falls on the floor, it might collect bacteria quickly. Even if you pick it up quickly, it could still be dangerous to eat.
Many people think that food dropped on a carpeted (铺有地毯的) floor is very dirty.
However, another expert, Professor Hilton, found that carpeted floors pass on fewer bacteria than hard surfaces (表面) like wood. This is because the top of a carpet keeps food away from bacteria that lie closer to the ground. Still, he warns people to be careful. Food on the floor can never be completely safe. But what if your food is dropped on the kitchen counter instead of the floor Dr. Dowshen, advises not eating such food as well. Raw (生的) meat or other foods can leave bad bacteria called salmonella (沙门氏菌) on the top. Food from a dirty counter could make you sick.
In the end, you can never be too careful about what you put in your mouth. When you’re not sure, it’s probably better to just throw it away.
Many people believe dropped food is safe if they pick it up within five seconds, but experts say 62 . Bacteria can move to food quickly, especially (尤其是) 63 like watermelon. Surprisingly, food dropped on carpet might pick up fewer bacteria than on hard floors like wood, but food on the floor 64 . Food dropped on kitchen counters is also not safe. The advice is clear: when food touches the floor or a dirty counter, 65 . Better safe than sorry!
