What is a summary
A summary is a short statement of main points. A summary tells the main ideas and the most important information of a longer passage.
Writing a summary is a great way to process the information you read, whether it's an article or a book.

Strange things occurred in the countryside of northeastern Hebei for several days. A deadly earthquake happened in Tangshan, China at 3:42 a.m., on 28 July, 1976. The earthquake was so destructive that nearly one third of the whole nation felt and nearly everything in the city was destroyed. But hope was not lost, many rescue workers and doctors came to Tangshan to save people. With strong support from the government and the tireless efforts of the city's people, a new Tangshan was built upon the earthquake ruins.
