In films, dads are brave and strong. But real life is different. Fathers break down and get depressed. In a study published in American Journal of Preventive Medicine,Kristine Schmitz, an assistant professor, together with other researchers,reports that children exposed to dads' depression when entering kindergartenare far more likely to have behavioral difficulties and poor social skills at age 9.
On average, 8%~13% of fathes in the United States will be affected by some form of depression during their child's early years. But few studies have focused on the connection between fathers' mental health and children's behaviors. To close this gap,Schmitz and colleagues analyzed data from the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study (FFCWS), in 20 large U.S. cities from 1998 to 2000.
Two FFCWS data points were key to Schmitz's assessment: When the children were aged 5， their fathers were screened for depressive symptoms（症状）；and when they were 9, the children's teachers completed a survey that included behavioral assessments.
By comparing data from 1,422 fathers-74% of whom lived with their children at least half of the time when the child was 5-and their children, the researchers were able to map a clear link between dads' depression and children's behavior. For instance, kids whose fathers reported depressive symptoms, such as feeling sad, blue or depressed when they were aged 5 were, by age 9, significantly more likely to exhibit restlessness and anger as well as present lower levels of cooperation and self-esteem（自尊心）.
Schmitz said several reasons could explain the connection. For one, depression has been found to lead to difficulty in parenting and less emotional support for the child. It can also cause conflict or other stress in the home.
While dads' depression is connected to challenging children's behaviors, there is reason for hope. The findings suggest that early interventions to identify and support effect can be reduced. "It can help improve not only fathers' well-being but also the well-being of the children," Schmitz said.

Is it better to shower in the morning or at night As a microbiologist, I can tell you there actually is no clear answer to this question.
First， showering is necessary for good individual hygiene（卫生）routine，removing dirt and oil from our skin and helping prevent skin problems and infections.Showering also removes sweat， which has no smell. But bacteria（细菌）living on the surface of our skin break down sweat to get nutrients and release bad smell.
Pollutants your body collects during the day alongside sweat and fatty oil are sure to get to your sheets and pillow cases. The sweat and oil from your skin will also support the growth of the bacteria on your skin. These bacteria may then also get from your body onto your sheets.
So,showering at night may remove some of the pollutants, sweat and oil picked up during the day so less ends up on your bed sheets. This means that by the morning, you'll have bacteria on your bed sheets and you'll probably also wake up with some bad smell.
Morning showers, however, can help remove dead skin cells as well as any sweat or bacteria absorbed from your bed sheets overnight even if your sheets weren't freshly washed. A morning shower suggests your body will be cleaner of night-acquired skin bacteria. You'll also start the day with less sweat for smell-producing bacteria to feed on.
