Why do I stand up for animals, and not for all those people who have no homes or no food A poor child, no matter how hard his life is, is at least a member of the human race. This makes his chances of spending his life in a dark and small cage, or suffering from painful and frightening medical experiments a lot smaller. Should such a fate (命运) fall on him, there's a chance that other people will stand up for him.
But with animals, the situation is difficult. People have the right to use animals in an economically best way, which has resulted in the unscrupulous processing of animals. Producers of medicine are even legally allowed to kill animals and cut them open before a new medicine may be tested on humans. Partly, animal abuse is based on many people's belief that animals are inferior (低等的) to humans, a belief that is also the basis of one of the most unacceptable forms of animal abuse, namely animal testing and factory farming.
I believe that any person may do the most terrible things to other people at some point, if they allow something so defenseless as an animal to be abused. Personally, I think that the public have no idea of the great acts of violence that are being committed in their name. And it is possible to right large-scale (大范围的) wrongs, if enough people learn to see through the lies of a few.
In conclusion, I do think it's possible to live together with animals in a responsible way everywhere in the world, as long as people know about the wrongs that exist and what causes them. What we don't know won't hurt us; even in our country and elsewhere we “know nothing”, and that's why deep-rooted wrongs exist and large profits (利润) can be made at the cost of animals. This is the reason why I stand up for organizations that defend animal rights: Somehow I believe that a society that takes responsibility for its weakest and most dependent members, will also be better for its people.
24.Why does the author mention the poor
A.To show their living conditions. B.To call for help from the public.
C.To attract people's attention to them. D.To highlight animals' tough situation.
25.What does the underlined word “unscrupulous” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Uncertain. B.Unsatisfying.
C.Complex. D.Shameless.
26.What is the main reason for animal abuse
A.People's unawareness. B.Animals' medical value.
C.The absence of animal laws. D.The irresponsibility of society.
27.What's the author's attitude toward animal rights organizations
A.Positive. B.Negative.
C.Indecisive. D.Unclear.
In America, after middle school comes high school, which includes grades 9 through 12. Students are required to take compulsory subjects like English, social studies, math, science, and physical education. In addition, they choose among elective subjects(选修科目) to complete their high school education. Electives include subjects in technology, music, art, and foreign languages.
Each student in the school has their own locker(储物柜) for books and personal items. This convenience saves students from carrying textbooks, and allows students a small space they can decorate with posters and favorite objects.
Cheating in any form is strictly prohibited(禁止) in American schools. And in fact, high school students usually don't cheat. If they are caught cheating, they will have to face severe punishment.
Each school holds certain yearly activities for all school students, such as homecoming(返校节), prom night(学年舞会), holiday celebrations, etc.
Most high schools have at least one sports team that competes in local games, and all students are encouraged to take part in athletics. Schools often offer football, baseball and softball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and soccer. Some may even have sports like golf, swimming, gymnastics and cross-country skiing.
Many high school students have part-time jobs by the age of 15 or 16, some even earlier. Their first jobs are often babysitting or cutting lawns(草坪), but later they will probably get a job at a fast-food restaurant, video store, or clothing shop.
Sixteen years old is legal(法定) driving age in most states, and students usually want to own a car as soon as they can. Some parents allow their children to drive a family car, and may even buy a car as a graduation present. Others prefer that their sons or daughters earn enough to buy a used car. Many teenagers feel it’s necessary to own a car, and will do whatever it takes to be able to drive.

In business, as in life, good leaders hope for the best and plan for the worst. There’s a reason that experts refer to the regular expansion and contraction of the economy as the business cycle.
Even producers of the most recession-proof products—toiletries, beer, funeral services—need to consider how rising and falling consumer sentiment will affect their bottom line.
Of course, timing the next downturn is easier said than done. So as we head into a new year, we reached out to the Fast Company Impact Council—a leadership group of 200 founders, executives, and creatives—to gauge how some of the smartest and most innovative people in business are thinking about a possible recession.
About 4 in 10 respondents told us they expect the global economy in 2020 to perform about the same. But remarkably, nearly 45% predicted that the next 12 months would be worse for business. Only 16% said that the global economy would be better.
Impact Council members were more like-minded about the timing of the next downturn. While 21% predicted a recession would hit in 2020, the majority (54%) said it would likely arrive in 2021, after the next presidential election. About 15% responded that the next recession would come in 2022. Only 1 in 10 said the economy would continue to grow until 2023 or later.
32.In business, what is a good leader hope for
A.Earn lots of money as possible. B.Make the best plan for the worst.
C.Sell out the whole products. D.Predict the economic trends in the future.
33.How many people predict global economy in 2020 will be better
A.nearly 45%. B.less than 15%. C.over 54%. D.only 16%.
34.When will the economy most likely grow again
A.In 2020. B.In 2021. C.In 2022 . D.In 2023.
35.What is the best title for this passage
A.Predict about the future economy. B.the growth of the future economy.
C.Recession in economy. D.How to be a good economic leader .
Three Key Steps to Motivate Your Team to Strive for Excellence
It is a known fact that one of the most compelling reasons employees leave their job is because they feel unappreciated, or that they bring no real value to their team. 36 In order to motivate and build up a team for excellence, there are some key steps that you should follow.
37
This does not mean that you should hang out with them at the local bar, or become one of their weekend buddies. What it does mean is that if you want to motivate your team to excellence, then you should take the time to get to know your team personally by talking individually to them at different times, asking basic questions, and letting them see that you are human and accessible. 38
Recognize them as a person, not just their ability.
Too often, we are quick to praise people for a job well done, but we fail to let the person know that we appreciate them as a person. Praise them for that job well done, but take notice of their personal qualities and talents and how they bring value to the team. 39 For example: “Hey Johnny, those were some great ideas you came up with in the team meeting today, I like the way you think!”
Make their success public.
Take time in your team meetings each week to recognize and talk about the people who made a difference that week. 40 This makes others want to push harder and do more as they see that hard work is valued. Many times other team members do not know what has happened in other departments, or the accomplishments that they have had, so this is also a great way for your team to keep up with the latest and greatest.
A.Build a relationship with your team.
B.Treat your team to something special.
C.Let the rest of the team see that you took notice and you appreciate it.
D.People will find it difficult to “go along” with you if they cannot “get along” with you.
E.Something special happens when we hear our name—it tells us that we are important.
F.If you want to motivate your team to do their very best, you have to let them know that they are a vital part of your team.
G.This should be done in person randomly so that they can see that you are the one who noticed and you know they are on your team.

Dress-Up Day
Lily had been working on her bunny costume for weeks. She cut up an old gray sweater to make floppy ears, glued white cotton balls onto a belt for a tail, and even drew a mask with a pink nose. Her mom’s silver-painted sunglasses completed her “mysterious moon rabbit” look. She couldn’t wait to hop through school and make her classmates smile. Her school’s Dress-Up Day was supposed to be the best day ever—until she woke up with a fever the night before.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart,” her mom said, pressing a cool towel to Lily’s forehead, “You need to rest.” Shivering under blankets, she listened to the rain outside and tears welled up her eyes. Lily stared at her costume hanging on the closet door, its ears drooping (下垂) as sadly as she felt. She cried herself to sleep, imagining her classmates laughing in their superhero capes and princess gowns without her.
“Why not wear it to school today You worked so hard.” her mom said the next morning, handing her the costume, “Real magic isn’t confined (局限) to a single day.” Lily hesitated. Going late felt like showing up to a party after the cake was gone. But she stuffed the costume Rabbit into her backpack anyway.
Lily’s heart pounded as she entered school late. The hallway felt huge and empty as Lily shuffled in, ears drooping. Whispers coiled (盘绕) around her like smoke, “Is she a sick rabbit ” “Look at those strange glasses!” Her cheeks burned hotter than her fever had. Her ears drooped as she stared at the floor, wishing she could disappear.
Suddenly, a noise came. A boy jumped out of a locker, his orange sweatshirt lumpy with foam padding, a green beanie sprouting felt leaves. Everyone turned. There stood Hugo, a shy boy from her science class, wearing a bright orange T-shirt stuffed with pillows. He had a green paper hat shaped like carrot leaves and brown boots. He looked like a carrot.

M: Hi, my talk today is about an invention, the modern car seat belt.
The inventor of the modern car seat belt was a Swedish man called Nils Bohlin. Bohlin had trained as a mechanical engineer at college before gaining his first employment as an aircraft designer. He did well, so was invited to join a car manufacturing company as a safety engineer.
Bohlin had often worked on improving seats and seat belts for planes since starting his working life in 1942. After joining the car manufacturer in 1958, he spent the following 12 months developing his ideas for cars, and then a car featuring Bohlin’s creation on both front seats was introduced, making it the earliest example of a vehicle with modern seat belts.
However, it took many years for them to become widely accepted. Japan made it a rule that everyone must wear seat belts in their cars across the whole country in1971.A year earlier, two of the six states in Australia had introduced similar rules. France was the first European nation to create seat belt laws several years later. It’s incredible to think that some investment in research and development in the manufacturing industry has had such a huge global impact.

根据第一段的“A poor child, no matter how hard his life is, is at least a member of the human race. This makes his chances of spending his life in a dark and small cage, or suffering from painful and frightening medical experiments a lot smaller.”(一个贫穷的孩子,无论生活多么艰难,至少也是人类的一员。 和第二段的“But with animals, the situation is difficult.”(但对于动物来说,情况就很困难了。)
根据第二段的“People have the right to use animals in an economically best way, which has resulted in the unscrupulous processing of animals. Producers of medicine are even legally allowed to kill animals and cut them open before a new medicine may be tested on humans.”(人们有权以最经济的方式使用动物,这导致了unscrupulous处理动物。
根据第三段的“Personally, I think that the public have no idea of the great acts of violence that are being committed in their name.”(就我个人而言,我认为公众对以他们的名义实施的重大暴力行为一无所知。)

36.根据上文“It is a known fact that one of the most compelling reasons employees leave their job is because they feel unappreciated, or that they bring no real value to their team.(众所周知,员工离开工作岗位最令人信服的原因之一就是他们觉得自己不受赏识,或者他们没有给团队带来真正的价值)”以及后文“In order to motivate and build up a team for excellence, there are some key steps that you should follow.(为了激励和建立一个卓越的团队,有一些关键步骤,你应该遵循)”可知,上文提到了员工辞职的原因,后文则提到了要激励和建立卓越的团队,可知本句承上启下,说明要激励团队做到最好的方式,后文中motivate and build up a team与F选项中motivate your team相对应。
37.根据后文“This does not mean that you should hang out with them at the local bar, or become one of their weekend buddies. What it does mean is that if you want to motivate your team to excellence, then you should take the time to get to know your team personally by talking individually to them at different times, asking basic questions, and letting them see that you are human and accessible.(这并不意味着你应该和他们一起去当地的酒吧,或者成为他们的周末伙伴。这意味着,如果你想激励你的团队走向卓越,那么你应该花时间亲自了解你的团队,在不同的时间单独与他们交谈,问一些基本的问题,让他们看到你是人,是可以接近的)”可知,本段主要是在说明花时间了解自己的团队,和团队成员培养关系,故A选项“与你的团队培养关系”符合语境,故选A。

39.根据上文“Too often, we are quick to praise people for a job well done, but we fail to let the person know that we appreciate them as a person. Praise them for that job well done, but take notice of their personal qualities and talents and how they bring value to the team.(很多时候,我们很容易因为别人的工作做得很好而表扬他们,但我们没有让那个人知道我们是从个人角度来欣赏他们的。赞扬他们出色的工作,但要注意他们的个人素质和才能,以及他们如何为团队带来价值)”以及后文“For example: “Hey Johnny, those were some great ideas you came up with in the team meeting today, I like the way you think!”(例如:“嘿,约翰尼,你今天小组会议上提出的一些好主意,我喜欢你的思考方式!”)”
40.根据上文“Take time in your team meetings each week to recognize and talk about the people who made a difference that week.(每周花点时间在团队会议上,找出并讨论当周做出不同贡献的人)”以及后文“This makes others want to push harder and do more as they see that hard work is valued.

故填has increased。

67. He adjusted his crooked gold-painted glasses and smiled. “Hi, Moon Rabbit!” he said happily, holding up a bag of baby carrots, “I’m a lost space carrot!” Something in his playful tone dissolved Lily’s shame. Lily froze, then giggled. Their laughter broke the tension. Soon, Lily and Hugo were racing around the playground, inventing silly rules for a game called “Carrot Chase.” By the second round, a girl wearing a dinosaur hoodie from the day before joined in. Then a boy wrapped a towel around his shoulders like a cape and joined in.
More and more kids followed, joining the running. The girl who’d mocked Lily’s glasses now wore her sweater backward as “robot armor,” shouting, “GO!” A boy draped napkins over his arms like bat wings, declaring himself the “Cabbage Bat.” Lily glanced at her reflection in her silver sunglasses—no longer a lonely moon rabbit, but the captain of a joy-filled universe. At that moment, Lily understood: courage wasn’t a lack of fear, but the choice to spark joy even when your ears droop.
