音节是以元音（音标）为主体构成的发音单位，任何一个单词都可以分解为一个个音节朗读。音节的核心发音是元音音标，每一个音节里都要有一个元音音标，音节的分界线是辅音音标。
一个英语单词，如果由两个或两个以上的音节组成，念得比较响的音节就是重读音节，其他音节是非重读音节。
在音标中，符号 ' 后面的那个音节就是重读音节，其余的音节就是非重读音节。
如 visit[ v z t]如这个单词有两个音节，第一个音节是vi,
它的元音音标是vi[ v ]的i[ ],第二个音节是sit,它的元音音标
是sit[z t]的i[ ], 这两个音节的分界线就是辅音音标s[z].

1.双音节词的重音
一般的双音节词，重音在第一个音节上，如worker/ w k /工人。有的双音节词，重音在第二个音节上，如tonight/t na t/在今晚。
2.多音节词的重音
多音节词的重音，一般在第一个音节上，如：family/ f m li/。也有的在第二个音节上，如：tomorrow/t m r /。
