Do you love reading in your daily life Recently, according to a study, 43% of the young people said they enjoyed reading. Others said their parents encouraged them to read books, but they didn’t want to read. Adults including teachers and parents often choose books for kids. However, some people think kids might enjoy reading more if they have more control over it. What do you think Should children be told (被告知) what to read Here are two different opinions.
Yes—young readers need guidance (指导)
Recently, a report said in middle schools, many students are choosing primary school-level books, and this has led to a fall in children’s ability to read and understand text. A teacher at University of Dundee said middle school students should read more difficult books. They should be suitable to their age. Adults can recommend (推荐) books that are not only fun but can also improve the readers’ skills.
No—kids are the ones reading the book
Why should adults decide what children read It makes reading sound like homework and it could stop children from reading for fun. Adults have different tastes and they have no idea what their kids love reading. Young people are learning fast. If they choose something they don’t understand or that makes them uncomfortable, they may stop reading and find something else they enjoy more.
