Lesson Plan
B1U3 Living legends
I. Background information:
Students: 50 students in Class 2, Senior 1
Duration: 40 mins
Lesson Type: Reading
II. The analysis of the text
[What]The first paragraph introduces Lang Ping, who has won world championships both as an athlete and as a coach. She possesses a strong sense of teamwork and an unwavering determination to overcome difficulties. The second paragraph introduces Michael Jordan's superb technical skills, his fearlessness in the face of failure, his perseverance, and his enthusiasm for public welfare.
[Why]By introducing two famous athletes, Lang Ping and Michael Jordan, one from China and the other from the United States, one male and the other female, we can understand that they not only achieved remarkable accomplishments in sports but also possess many shining personal qualities and charisma. Students not only admire these sports stars but also learn and understand the principles of being a person and doing things from these "role models". At the same time, through the understanding of the text, students summarize the evaluation criteria, recommend their own sports stars in their minds, and give the reasons for the recommendation, cultivating students' rational thinking and objective evaluation thinking qualities.
[How]The first discourse begins with a list structure: "As a player,... " As a coach,... As a person,...” Summarize the person's achievements and influence; use examples and facts to present, highlighting her teamwork spirit and unwavering determination to overcome difficulties. The second passage employs vivid and lively language descriptions, such as "time seemed to stand still, graceful moves and jumps". It also uses direct quotations to enhance the readers' sense of personal experience.
