1. I suppose everyone has something they don’t like about themselves.
我想每个人都有不喜欢自己的地方。
suppose /s p z/ v.假设,认为
此处作及物动词,用来表示说话人的看法、猜测或假 设。
“suppose+(that)从句”表示“猜测/认为……”。
e.g. I suppose(that)we will have a wonderful trip.
我认为我们将会拥有一次美好的旅行。
(1)在“主语+suppose/believe/think+(that)从句”结构中,
当主句为一般现在时,宾语从句的否定一般要转移到
主句上来,这种现象叫“否定前移”。
e.g. I don’t suppose that he can finish the work on time.
我料想他不能按时完成这项工作。
(2)be(not)supposed to 意为“(不)应该”,相当于
should(not), 后跟动词原形。
e.g. You are supposed to have each meal on time.
你应该按时吃每顿饭。
2. Sometimes, I felt people secretly looking at my face.
有时,我觉得人们在偷偷地看我的脸。
secretly / si:kr tli/ adv.暗自
由“secret(adj.秘密的)+-ly(副词后缀)”构成。
secret[名词]秘密;秘诀
the secret to/of (doing) sth.(做)某事的秘诀
keep a/the secret 保守秘密
e.g. What is the secret to language learning
e.g. I promised Li Ming I would keep the secret to myself.
3. On crowded buses and trains, it felt just like a disaster.
在拥挤的公交车和火车上,那感觉就像一场灾难。

常用短语:be crowded with 挤满……

② feel like感觉像,有……感觉
A. 后常接名词(短语)或从句等。

B. feel like还可意为“想要”,常见用法有:
feel like sth.想要某物
feel like doing sth.(=want/would like to do sth.)
想要做某事
I feel like a drink.我想要一杯饮料。
I don’t feel like saying anything now.我现在什么都不
想说。
4. Therefore, I always kept my hair long to cover it until that day.
因此,我总是留着长发遮住它,直到那一天。

常用于句中。

5. Instead of looking away, Maddie studied my face.

instead of代替……;而不是……
instead 与 instead of 两者都有“代替”的含义,区别如下:
instead 副词 常位于句首或句末,位于句首时常用逗号与后面的内容隔开。
instead of 短语介词 位于句首或句中,后接名词、代词或动词-ing形式。
6. Although I only replied “thank you”, it turned sunny in my heart.
虽然我只回答了一句“谢谢”,但我的内心变得阳光明媚起来。
although / :l / conj.虽然,尽管
相当于though,引导让步状语从句。
【特别提醒】
在英语中,表示“虽然……但是……”时, although/though
不能和but在同一个句子中使用。
尽管这台机器老旧了,但是它依然运行良好。
Although the machine is old, it still runs well.
=The machine is old, but it still runs well.
7. The shape of it was truly like a flower. 它的形状确实像一朵花。
truly / tru:li/ adv.真实地,确实地
常修饰形容词或动词(短语)。
8. Accept your differences. 接受你的不同。
difference / d f r ns/ n.差别,不同
[可数名词]&[不可数名词]
make a difference/make some difference(to...)
(对……)有/有些影响;(对……)有/有些作用
9. The results of scientific studies can also help you make wise decisions.
科学研究的结果也可以帮助你做出明智的决定。
wise /wa z/ adj.明智的,明断的
其近义词是clever/bright/smart。既可作表语又可作定语。
