资源简介

Unit 3 My School
Section B(2a-2b)
Students will be able to master new vocabulary and phrases related to school activities and people, such as "student, teacher, have a good time, on the playground" etc.
They can skillfully use the simple present tense to describe daily school life, including activities like "play basketball, read books in the library" and express the location of people and events.
Grasp the new vocabulary and phrases relevant to school life.
Master the usage of the simple present tense in describing daily school activities and locations.
Improve students' reading skills, including quickly obtaining main ideas and specific details from the text.
1 Lead - in
Show some pictures of students in different school activities on the PPT, such as students playing football on the playground, reading books in the library, having a class in the classroom.
T: "Good morning/afternoon, dear students! Look at these pictures. What are these students doing Can you describe the scenes in English "
Invite several students to answer. For example, a student may answer, "They are playing football on the playground."
After students' answers, the teacher continues, "Great! These are all parts of our school life. Today, we are going to read about the school life of some foreign students. Let's see what's different or similar compared to ours."
2 Pre - reading
Present new vocabulary and phrases related to the reading passage on the blackboard or PPT, such as "student, teacher, have a good time, on the playground, in the classroom, after class" etc.
Teach the pronunciation of these words and phrases. Let students repeat after the teacher several times. For example, when teaching "have a good time", the teacher says it slowly, emphasizing each word's pronunciation: "have - a - good - time", and students imitate.
Use some simple ways to help students understand the meaning. For "have a good time", the teacher can say, "When you are happy and enjoy yourself, you have a good time. For example, on weekends, you can play games with your friends and have a good time."
Conduct a quick vocabulary quiz. The teacher says a word or phrase in Chinese, and students quickly respond with the English equivalent. For example, the teacher says "学生", and students say "student".
3 While - reading
Skimming
Give students the reading passage in 2a - 2b. Let them read the passage quickly without stopping to look up new words.
Set a question: "What is the main idea of this passage Is it about the school facilities, school activities, or school rules "
After students finish skimming, ask them to raise their hands and share their answers. Then, summarize the main idea of the passage together: "This passage mainly describes the school life of some students, including their activities during and after class."
Scanning
Ask students to read the passage again, this time more carefully, and find the answers to the following detailed questions:
"Where do students play basketball "
"Who teaches English in the school "
"What do students do after class "
Write these questions on the blackboard or show them on the PPT. Walk around the classroom to observe students' reading process and offer help if needed.
After students finish scanning, ask them to share their answers. Check the answers together and explain any misunderstandings. For example, if the answer to "Where do students play basketball " is "on the playground", ask students to find the relevant sentence in the passage to support the answer.
In - depth Reading
Divide the passage into several parts. Analyze each part sentence by sentence.
For example, in a sentence like "The students have English classes in the morning. Their English teacher, Mr. Smith, is very kind."
First, ask students about the subject "The students" and the verb "have" in the simple present tense. Review the form of the simple present tense for the third - person plural.
Then, introduce the new information about the English teacher. Ask students to describe Mr. Smith in their own words based on the sentence.
Encourage students to ask questions about the sentences they don't understand. Solve these questions immediately, either by explaining grammar points, vocabulary, or cultural background knowledge.
4 Post - reading
4.1 Group Discussion
Divide students into groups of four or five. Pose a discussion topic: "Compare the school life in the passage with our school life. What are the similarities and differences "
Each group member takes turns to share their thoughts. The group leader can write down the key points.
The teacher walks around the groups, listening to their discussions and providing guidance. For example, if a group has trouble finding differences, the teacher can prompt, "Think about the time of classes, the types of activities, or the way teachers teach."
After about 5 minutes of discussion, invite several groups to share their results with the whole class. Other groups can ask questions or add their own opinions.
4.2 Role - play
Based on the passage, design a role - play activity. Suppose a foreign student comes to visit your school. You need to introduce your school life to him/her.
Students can choose to be the visitor or the host. They should use the information from the passage and their own school life experience to create dialogues.
Give students some time to prepare. Then, invite several pairs of students to come to the front of the class and perform their dialogues. After each performance, let other students give feedback, such as praising good expressions or suggesting improvements in pronunciation or content.
5 Summary
Review the new vocabulary and phrases learned in this class. Write them on the blackboard again and ask students to read them together.
Summarize the key points of using the simple present tense in describing school life. Emphasize the form changes for the third - person singular.
T: "Today, we have learned a lot about school life. We know new words and how to use the simple present tense. Remember to use these in your daily English learning."
Encourage students to read more texts about school life to expand their vocabulary and improve their reading skills.
6 Homework
Ask students to write a short passage about their own school life, using at least five new words and phrases learned in this class and the simple present tense. They should describe at least three activities they usually do at school.
Let students find some pictures about their school life and write a short English description under each picture. They can share these pictures and descriptions with their classmates in the next class.
