Patrick and Grant are classmates. They are also best friends. They go to school together, have classes together, and play together. Their classmates call them two peas in a pod.
One day the two boys stopped talking to each other. Why Grant wanted to copy Patrick's homework. That way Grant could spend more time playing basketball. But to his surprise, Patrick didn't think it was a good idea.
"No way! I can't do that" said Patrick.
"What a friend you are!" Grant said angrily.
Patrick felt awful. He said, "I won't lend you my homework. That's cheating! Friends don't "help each other out like that."

That afternoon, they parted and went their own ways. In the following days, they both felt bad.
A few days later, there was a school basketball game. Patrick went to the gym to watch it. Grant was there, too. At the end of the game, the two friends looked at each other. Grant immediately came over and held out his hand. He wanted to say something, but he felt embarrassed. Patrick smiled and said, "Good friends don't have to say sorry. They just know it. I still want you to be my best friend.
That day the two boys made a deal. They would do their own homework first and play basketball after.

In addition to the basic structures of simple sentences such as SV, SP, and SVO, there are two additional structures: SVOO and SVOC.

简单句 (Simple sentences)
1. 主语 + 谓语(SV)
e.g. I got up early. We can learn together.
3. 主语 + 系动词 + 表语(SP)
简单句是指只包含一个主谓结构,主要成分别由词、短语构成的子。简单句分为五种基本句型。
2. 主语 + 谓语 + 宾语(SVO)
e.g. He loves physics. Every job requires hand work.
4. 主语 + 谓语 + 间接宾语 + 直接宾语(SVOO)
e.g. Our teacher showed us some cool experiments.
= Our teacher showed some cool experiments to us.
I won't lend you my homework.
= I won't lend my homework to you.
注意:
双宾语一个指人(即间接宾语),另一个指物(即直接宾语)。一般间接宾语位于直接宾语的前面,有时它们也可以交换位置,这时需要在间接宾语的前面加上介词to或for。常见的跟双宾语结构的动词有:give、show、bring、pass、lend、send、make、buy、get、sing等。
e.g. We call her Beibei. (名词)
Good friends would make us very happy. (形容词)
I will not let you in. (副词)
Krista, his friend, noticed him looking sad. (分词)
I still want you to be my best friend. (不定式)

5. 主语 + 谓语 + 宾语 + 宾语补足语(SVOC)
在有些及物动词之后,虽已有宾语,但意义还不完整,需要在其后增加一个成分以补充其意义,这样的成分叫作宾语补足语,它可以是名词、形容词、副词、分词、不定式和介词短语等。

(1) surprise 的用法如下:
名词,意为“意外;惊奇” get a surprise 吃惊;惊讶
in surprise 惊讶地;吃惊地
to one’s surprise 令某人惊讶的是
by surprise 出其不意地;冷不丁地
动词,意为“使吃惊,使惊讶” 通常作及物动词,其后可以直接跟宾语

She surprised me by eating so much.

(2) “Patrick didn't think it was a good idea”是一个含宾语从句的主从复合句。主句是Patrick didn’t think,从句是it was a good idea,作think 的宾语。
6. "No way! I can't do that" said Patrick.
“No way! 不可能!”,同样表示不可能、没门的常见口语还有:
Over my dead body!除非我死了才有可能。
Not a chance! 一点可能、机会都没有。
e.g. I can't finish this report by tomorrow. No way!
我明天完不成这份报告。绝不可能!
7. "What a friend you are!" Grant said angrily.
What 引导的感叹句结构为What a/an (+adj.)+ 可数名词单数+ 主语+ 谓语!

8. I won't lend you my homework.
辨析:lend、borrow、keep
lend (lent/lent ) 指“借出”,表示”把某物借给某人”,为非延续性动词 lend sth. to sb.
=lend sb sth.
借给某人某物
borrow ( borrowed/ borrowed ) 指“借入”表示 “向某人借某物”为非延续性动词 borrow sth from sb.
从某人处借某物
keep (kept/kept) 指“保留,保存”为延续性动词 常与“for+时间段”连用

cheat v. 作弊,舞弊;欺骗,蒙骗

e.g. It’s not fair to cheat in games.

10. Grant immediately came over and held out his hand.

11. He wanted to say something, but he felt embarrassed.
embarrassed adj. 尴尬的;害羞的(修饰人)
