Hello, my name is Tiantian. I am in Grade 8. What will I be when I grow up That's a big question. There are so many choices. I don't know the exact answer yet, but I do have a few ideas.
Maybe I'll be an airplane pilot. That is a cool job because I will help people travel around for work, for fun, or for family reunions. I am looking forward to flying in the sky and experiencing many interesting things.
There is a problem, though. I have a fear of heights. But that won't stop me from becoming a pilot. I can take steps to overcome my fear and try my best to realise my dream.
Or maybe I'll be an engineer and make planes. I like making model planes. I hope to design a new type of plane someday. It will have larger wings,
but burn less fuel.

拓展延伸：“主将从现” 适用范围：除 “when”，还有 “if（如果 ）、as soon as（一……就 ）、until（直到 ）” 等引导的时间 / 条件状语从句 。
Language points
1. What will I be when I grow up
(1) when /wen/ conj. 当……时 ，引导时间状语从句，遵循 “主将从现” 规则 ：即 主句用一般将来时，从句用一般现在时。
e.g. When he comes back, I will tell him the news.
他回来时，我将会告诉他消息 。
(2) grow up 长大
e.g. I want to be an engineer when I grow up. 我长大后想成为一名工程师。

few 作形容词时，意为“有些；很少”，它强调数量少，且通常带有否定的意味。
辨析：few, a few, little 与a little
修饰可数名词 修饰不可数名词
表否定含义 few（几乎没有） little（几乎没有）
表肯定含义 a few（有几个） a little（有一点）
e.g. Though he is poor, he is happy. = He is poor, but he is happy.

3. There is a problem, though.
though / / adv. 然而；可是 ；conj. 尽管；虽然
①作副词，常用于句末 ，起补充说明、转折语气的作用
e.g. The trip was great. The weather was bad at times, though.
这次旅行很棒。不过，天气有时不太好 。
②作连词，引导让步状语从句，可放在句首或句中，意为“尽管；虽然”
e.g. She went to school on time though she was ill.
尽管她生病了，她还是按时上学了 。
注意：汉语里“虽然……但是……”常连用，英语中“though”和“but”不能同时出现在一个句子里 ，只能用其一 。

5. I have a fear of heights.

e.g. We are taking steps to prevent pollution.

(2) try one’s best to do sth.

e.g. Your dream will come true if you try your best.

(3) ① realise v. 实现 美式书写：realize “主语是人”
come true 实现 “主语是物”
realise one’s dream 实现某人的梦想
e.g. We must work hard to realise our dream.
我们必须努力学习实现梦想。
② realise v. 意识到；理解
e.g. Judy suddenly realised that all her friends were helping her, and she was moved.
朱迪突然意识到所有的朋友都在帮助她，她非常感动
I didn't realise that my mother was really unhappy at that time.
我并未察觉到母亲在那时非常不开心。
8. I hope to design a new type of plane someday.
(1) design v.& n. 设计

e.g. She designed a new logo for the company.
