It was invented around 105 AD. Before this, people wrote on heavy materials like bamboo strips or expensive silk. Paper made writing and reading much easier. It also helped spread knowledge to more people, just like how notebooks help you take notes in class!

Ancient Chinese discovered that a piece of magnetized iron (磁铁) always points south (or north). They made the first compass over 2,000 years ago, using it to find directions when traveling, especially at sea or in new places. It’s like the GPS of old times!

After-reading
Deep thinking: Why is the invention of printing important in history You can discuss with your group and give at least 2 reasons.
It’s important for several reasons. First, books became easier to make and knowledge spread faster. Before printing, people copied books by hand. It took a long time. Printing let people make many books quickly. With more books, ideas traveled far and wide. Second, mistakes happened less. Hand-copied books often had errors. Printing made sure the words stayed the same. This meant important ideas were passed on correctly.
