Over 5 million shared bikes in China are using services offered by Beidou Navigation Satellite System (北斗卫星导航系统).These shared bikes all use Beidou-based positioning chips (芯片).
The chips have high qualities. They can deal with information accurately and quickly. They feature low power consumption They provide a better user experience and easier management for the local companies. Now,several new models of shared electric bikes with Beidou-based chips have also started to be produced and put into market. Besides positioning and navigation, the chips will help users and shared bike companies record users’ speed and battery condition of an electric bike. The possible crimes during the bike using will also be recorded.
In fact, years ago, shared bike companies began to use positioning chips which worked well with both GPS and Beidou services. After the Beidou system became fully in use in the summer of 2020,shared bike companies started installing (安装) Beidou-based chips on more bikes in more areas. The latest chips which are popular with shared bike companies are smaller and have more advantages over the old types.

Electric vehicles (EVs) now are not practical for long-distance travel due to the need for repeated or lengthy stops at charging stations. But what if they could — like planes being refueled in the air from another aircraft — get a charge-on-the-go
The idea sounds impossible, but there are already technologies in use that would help charge specialized vehicles. With rural electric charging stations almost non-existent, Swarup Bhunia and engineers at the University of Florida, Gainesville, are suggesting that “car-to-car charging” and “mobile charging stations” could likely solve this problem faster than the sudden increase of charging points or battery advancements.
Along with mobile charging stations idea, Bhunia believes that if more and more people buy electric cars, it would be super-efficient if all cars on road could share charge with one another. What Bhunia and his team are describing is a cloud system that examines all of the EV drivers on the road, where they are going, and how much charge each vehicle has. The cloud then determines, for example, that EV-A has an 89% battery charge, but requires only 4% to reach its destination, while EV-B has a 22% battery charge, yet requires 31% to reach its destination. If the two EVs are going in the same direction, the system would instruct them to carry out the charge transfer. The system would then link the provider with the receiver, and a credit system would ensure that everyone is paying for the charge they use.
Inside the given traffic network, every vehicled charge could be examined against each vehicle’s demand, and “mobile charging stations,’’ which would be large automated trucks with onboard charging equipment to fill in the demand gaps.
“We imagine a safe and firm telescopic arm (伸缩臂) carrying the charging cable,’’ said Bhunia, describing how to get one charge into another car while running down the freeway, much like to aircraft during mid-air refueling. After two EVs lock speed and are in range for charge sharing, they will extend their charging arms.
23.To realize long-distance travel for EVs faster, Bhunia agrees with .
A.stops at charging stations B.mobile charging stations.
C.increase of charging points D.battery advancements
24.According to the text, the cloud system can .
A.determine where EVs are going and how EVs will be charged
B.figure out how much charge a car need to reach its destination
C.work out the problems drivers meet when a charge transfer occurs
D.guarantee that all the drivers are paying for the charge they get
25.What are mobile charging stations
A.Power plants for the charge transfer. B.Charging equipment to fill in the charge gaps.
C.Vehicles providing charge for other cars. D.Trucks getting charges from other vehicles.
26.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Can we charge EVs with car-to-car mobile charging
B.Can charging points be a possible way to charge EVs
C.How does a cloud system make charging EVs easier
D.How do we charge EVs with mobile charging stations
For decades, scientists thought of the brain as the most valuable and consequently most closely guarded part of the body. Locked safely behind the blood-brain barrier, it was broadly free of the harm of viruses and the battles started by the immune system(免疫系统). Then, about 20 years ago, some researchers began to wonder: is the brain really so separated from the body The answer, according to a growing body of evidence, is no.
The list of brain conditions that have been associated with changes elsewhere in the body is long and growing. Changes in the makeup of the microorganisms in the digestive system have been linked to disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. There is also a theory that infection during pregnancy could lead to brain diseases in babies.
The effect is two-way. There is a lengthening list of symptoms not typically viewed as disorders of the nervous system, but the brain plays a large part in them. For example, the development of a fever is influenced by a population of nerve cells that control body temperature and appetite. Evidence is mounting that cancers use nerves to grow and spread.
The interconnection between the brain and body has promising implications for our ability to both understand and treat illnesses. If some brain disorders start outside the brain, then perhaps treatments for them could also reach in from outside. Treatments that take effect through the digestive system, the heart or other organs, would be much easier and less risky than those that must cross the blood-brain barrier.
It also works in the opposite direction. Study shows mice have healthier hearts after receiving stimulation to a brain area involved in positive emotion and motivation. Activation of the brain reward centre — called the ventral tegmental area (VTA) — seems to cause immune changes that contribute to it. Working out how this happens could help to destroy cancers, enhance responses to vaccines and even re-evaluate physical diseases that, for centuries, have not been considered as being psychologically driven.
27. What do the researchers focus on about the brain
A.Its protecting system. B.Its exposure to diseases.
C.Its controlling function. D.Its connection to the body.
28. How does the author support his idea in paragraph 2
A.By explaining a theory. B.By providing examples.
C.By making comparisons. D.By presenting cause and effect.
29. Which best describes treatments that do not cross the blood-brain barrier
A.Cheaper. B.More specific.
C.Safer. D.More direct.
30. What does the study suggest in the last paragraph
A.Brain health depends on immune changes.
B.Brain stimulation leads to negative emotions.
C.The brain can help enhance psychological health.
D.The brain may be key to treating physical diseases.

“That sounded great… Bob.” David stood at the door with his eyebrows raised. Oh no. It’s David. Why is he here “Thanks,” I said, trying to think quickly. “You see…I came home and suddenly was fine. I should have met you at the court, but Mia stopped me on my way to…”

根据第一段中“Then, about 20 years ago, some researchers began to wonder: is the brain really so separated from the body The answer, according to a growing body of evidence, is no.(然后,大约20年前,一些研究人员开始怀疑:大脑真的与身体如此分离吗?根据越来越多的证据,答案是否定的。)”可知,研究人员主要研究大脑与身体的联系。故选D。
28. 推理判断题。根据第二段“The list of brain conditions that have been associated with changes elsewhere in the body is long and growing. Changes in the makeup of the microorganisms in the digestive system have been linked to disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. There is also a theory that infection during pregnancy could lead to brain diseases in babies.(与身体其他部位变化相关的大脑状况清单很长,而且还在不断增加。消化系统中微生物组成的变化与帕金森病等疾病有关。还有一种理论认为,怀孕期间的感染可能会导致婴儿脑部疾病。)”可知,这一段作者主要通过消化系统和怀孕期间的感染这两个例子来论证自己的观点,说明大脑并不是身体中保护最严密的部分。故选B。
29. 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Treatments that take effect through the digestive system, the heart or other organs, would be much easier and less risky than those that must cross the blood-brain barrier.(通过消化系统、心脏或其他器官进行的治疗比必须穿过血脑屏障的治疗更容易,风险更小。)”
根据最后一段“Study shows mice have healthier hearts after receiving stimulation to a brain area involved in positive emotion and motivation. Activation of the brain reward centre — called the ventral tegmental area (VTA) — seems to cause immune changes that contribute to it. Working out how this happens could help to destroy cancers, enhance responses to vaccines and even re-evaluate physical diseases that, for centuries, have not been considered as being psychologically driven.(研究表明,在大脑中涉及积极情绪和动机的区域受到刺激后,小鼠的心脏更健康。大脑奖赏中心——被称为腹侧被盖区(VTA)——的激活似乎会导致免疫变化。弄清楚这种情况是如何发生的,可以帮助摧毁癌症,增强对疫苗的反应,甚至重新评估几个世纪以来一直不被认为是心理驱动的物理疾病。)”可知,大脑可能是治疗身体疾病的关键。故选D。

【答案】36.on/upon
37.distance
38.travelling
39.themselves
40.is considered
41.who
42.physically
43.to go
44.a
45.challenging
短语focus on/upon… 故填on/upon。
故填is considered。
故填who。
此处为“it+be+adj.+for sb to do sth”,意为“某人做某事是……的”,为固定句型,it作形式主语,不定式作真正主语。故填to go。

Dear fellow students,
Our school has launched a campaign whose theme is “Using Hankies Instead of Facial Tissue” . The activity is aimed at raising people’s awareness of low-carbon lifestyle.
As we know, compared to a cotton hanky, it takes three times more energy to grow trees and produce paper tissue . Besides, tissues do create a fair amount of waste. Unlike office paper, once a tissue has been used, it can’t be recycled. Actually it ends up in landfill. It’s obvious that using hankies consumes less resource, thus causing less waste. So, why not use hankies as a new fashion Come on and join us now. Your little effort will make a big difference.

David turned around and left, leaving Mia and me standing there. I felt a mix of relief and guilt. Relief that David had not confronted me further, and guilt for having deceived him. Mia looked at me with concern, “You shouldn’t have lied, Bob.” She was right. I had avoided a conflict, but at what cost The trust and respect of my friend Mia’s words echoed in my head as David’s disappointed figure disappeared from view.
Mia was right, and I determined to make things right. After our practice, I headed straight to the basketball court, guitar case in hand. David was alone, shooting hoops. “David,” I called out, “I’m sorry I lied. I should have just told you I needed to practice with Mia. Here, I brought my guitar to show you I’m serious.” David looked surprised, then smiled. “It’s OK, Bob. Just don’t make a habit of it.” We played a few rounds of basketball, and then I showed him the song we were preparing. Friendship, like a good song, needs honesty and transparency to sound its best.

It was just a normal day for Ruth Miller, a 63-year-old woman until everything went horribly wrong. She was walking to her car after shopping when the unthinkable happened.
Right as she was unlocking her car, a man quickly came up behind her and tried to wrestle her purse away. She was in shock. Luckily she remembered she had her Safe Personal Alarm (SPA) on her purse, and since she was too scared to scream for help, she quickly reached for the alarm and pulled the pin (保险栓). Immediately her SPA started just screaming. The man didn't know what to do! He froze for a second, and then ran away like a bat out of hell!
SPA is a safety device capable of creating a 125db sound that attracts attention and scares away potential attackers. To compare, it's the same volume as a military jet during takeoff.
Paul Davidson, the inventor of SPA, knows all too well the type of situation that Ruth found herself in. But that's not the only type of situation that SPA helps protect against. Parents can give it to their kids as an extra means of protection. Teenagers can use it so they can feel safe walking home. Women can know it's there when they have to use the parking lot at night. “My mother, who is 76 years old, carries it around in case she falls and needs to ask people for help. I only wish I'd have thought of it earlier,” said Paul.
The police have been recommending SPA since it first hit the market. In fact, since its launch, SPA has been in a state, shifting between in stock to sold out nearly every other week, and it's also got tons of loyal followers worldwide.

Surfing the Internet for fun will make you a better employee, according to an Australian study.
The University of Melbourne study shows that people who use the Internet for their own reasons at work are about 9 percent more productive than those who do not. Study author Brent Coker said, “Surfing the Internet at times helps increase an employee’s attention.”
“People need to relax for a bit to get back their attention,” Coker said on the university’s website. “Having a short break, such as a quick surfing of the Internet, helps the mind to rest itself, and as a result, increases productivity ,” he said.
According to the study of 300 workers,70 percent of people who use the Internet at work surf the Internet for their own reasons during office hours. Among the most popular surfing activities are searching for information about products, reading online news, playing online games and watching videos. “Firms spend a lot of money on software to block their employees from watching videos, using social networking sites or shopping online,” said Coker. “That’s not always a good idea.”
However, Coker said the study looked at people who surfed the Internet in moderation (适度),or were on the Internet for less than 20 percent of their total time in the office. “Those who spend too much time surfing the Internet will have a lower productivity than those without,” he said.
23.What does the University of Melbourne study mainly show
A.People who surf the Internet are good employees.
B.Not everyone surfs the Internet for fun during office hours.
C.Surfing the Internet for fun during office hours increases productivity.
D.The Internet is becoming more and more important in people’s life.
24.What would Brent Coker most probably agree according to paragraph 3
A.The longer a person’s mind rests, the better attention he will have.
B.Surfing the Internet is the best way to increase productivity.
C.Workers should have a long break during office hours.
D.Workers should let their minds rest now and then.
25.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage as one of the most popular surfing activities
A.Watching videos. B.Reading online news.
C.Reading online novels. D.Playing online games.
26.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.Spending too much time surfing the Internet reduces productivity.
B.Those who never surf the Internet have the lowest productivity.
C.Most people don’t surf the Internet in moderation during office hours.
D.People should spend as little time as possible surfing the Internet.
Recent development has made possible machines that print, cook, and serve foods on a mass scale. And the industry isn’t stopping there.
Food production
With a 3D printer, a cook can print complicated chocolate sculptures and beautiful pieces for decoration on a wedding cake. Not everybody can do that — it takes years of experience, but a printer makes it easy. A restaurant in Spain uses a Foodini to “re-create forms and pieces” of food that are “exactly the same,” freeing cooks to complete other tasks. In another restaurant, all of the dishes and desserts it serves are 3D-printed, rather than farm to table.
Sustainability(可持续性)
The global population is expected to grow to 9.6 billion by 2050, and some analysts estimate that food production will need to be raised by 50 percent to maintain current levels. Sustainability is becoming a necessity. 3D food printing could probably contribute to the solution. Some experts believe printers could use hydrocolloids(水解胶体) from plentiful renewables like algae(藻类) and grass to replace the familiar ingredients(烹饪原料). 3D printing can reduce fuel use and emissions. Grocery stores of the future might stock “food” that lasts years on end, freeing up shelf space and reducing transportation and storage requirements.
Nutrition
Future 3D food printers could make processed food healthier. Hod Lipson, a professor at Columbia University, said, “Food printing could allow consumers to print food with customized nutritional content, like vitamins. So instead of eating a piece of yesterday’s bread from the supermarket, you’d eat something baked just for you on demand.”
Challenges
Despite recent advancements in 3D food printing, the industry has many challenges to overcome. Currently, most ingredients must be changed to a paste(糊状物) before a printer can use them, and the printing process is quite time-consuming, because ingredients interact with each other in very complex ways. On top of that, most of the 3D food printers now are restricted to dry ingredients, because meat and milk products may easily go bad. Some experts are skeptical about 3D food printers, believing they are better suited for fast food restaurants than homes and high-end restaurants.
27. What benefit does 3D printing bring to food production
A.It helps cooks to create new dishes.
B.It saves time and effort in cooking.
C.It improves the cooking conditions.
D.It contributes to restaurant decorations.
28. What can we learn about 3D food printing from Paragraphs 3
A.It solves food shortages easily.
B.It quickens the transportation of food.
C.It needs no space for the storage of food.
D.It uses renewable materials as sources of food.
29. According to Paragraph 4, 3D-printed food ______.
A.is more available to consumers
B.can meet individual nutritional needs
C.is more tasty than food in supermarkets
D.can keep all the nutrition in raw materials

Mind Your"Q's”
Both IQ and EQ are considered important to our career success. 30 Enter adaptability quotient(AQ),a subjective set of qualities loosely defined as the ability to thrive(提高) in an environment of fast and frequent change.
Every profession will require adaptability and flexibility.Say you are an accountant.Your IQ gets you through the examinations to become qualified.Your EQ helps your connect with an interviewer, land a job,and develop relationships with clients and colleagues 31
All three quotients are somewhat complementary, since they all help you solve problems and therefore adapt. An ideal candidate possesses all three, but not everyone does. 32 While there is no definite method of measuring adaptability like an IQ test, companies are changing their recruitment(招聘)processes to help identify people who may be high in it.
Natalie Fratto,a vice-president at Goldman Sachs,suggests three ways AQ might show in potential candidates:if they can picture possible versions of the future by asking"what if questions;
if they can unlearn information to challenge presumptions;and if they enjoy exploration or seeking out new experiences.
33 First, limit distractions and learn to focus so that you can determine what adaptations to make.Second, ask uncomfortable questions to develop courage and normalize fear. Third,be curious about things that fascinate you by having more conversations rather than Googling the answer, something that reduces your ability to solve difficult challenges.
Over the next three years,120 million people in the world's largest economies may need to be reskilled because of automation, according to a 2019 IBM study. 34 The ability to learn, change, grow, experiment will become far more important than subject expertise.
A.AQ is now increasingly being sought at the hiring level.
B.One good thing about AQ is that experts say you can work to develop it.
C.We may not all be comfortable with the pace of change-but we can prepare.
D.This is because an algorithm(算法)can do these tasks faster and more accurately than a human.
E.But today,as technology redefines how we work, the skills we need to thrive in the job market are developeing too.
F.Having IQ but no EQ would leave you struggling to embrace new ways of working using your existing skills.
G.Then, when systems change or aspects of work are automated, you will need AQ to accommodate this innovation and adapt to new ways of performing your role.

It was a warm and sunny morning at the Central Park Zoo. Mary and her classmates were chatting noisily with excitement as their school bus entered the zoo parking lot. Today, Mary's class was going on a field trip to the zoo to learn more about the animals and their natural habitats.
“Before you leave the bus, please make sure you have your partner!” Mrs Brown announced. To make sure no one got lost in the zoo, each student had a companion. Mary's companion was named John. John loves animals and was also excited to go to the zoo. But sometimes, John does not follow the rules and gets into trouble. Mary hoped that today, John would follow the rules so they would not get into trouble.
While the rest of the students got off the bus, Mary and John quickly ran off to explore. They found the exhibits for many different kinds of animals and learned a lot about their natural habitats. They saw the elephants playing and they saw giraffes eating. They saw the polar bears sleeping and the monkeys leaping. Mary asked John:
“John, what is your favourite animal ”
“I think I like chimpanzees best. They have a lot of energy, just like me! What animal do you like, Mary ”
“I love polar bears! I think their lifestyle in the Arctic is very interesting.”
A few hours later, Mary and John started to feel hungry. They made their way back to the zoo entrance to eat lunch at the Rainforest Café. The Rainforest Café is both Mary and John's favourite restaurant because there is an aquarium inside. The restaurant is also famous for its chocolate cake, which Mary ordered for dessert after they had finished their lunch.
As Mary was finishing her cake, John excused himself to go to the restroom. About ten minutes later, an alarm suddenly began to go off and a voice came over the loudspeaker:
“Attention! Someone has opened the chimpanzee exhibit! Some chimpanzees have escaped!”
People were screaming and starting to run. Mary looked for John, but he was nowhere to be found.
Paragraph 1:

Paragraph 2:
As Mary raced up the path to the animal exhibits, she stopped

37. Originally
38. was ordered
39. into
40. which
41. reflecting
42. views
43. or
44.an
故填was ordered。
故填into。
故填which。
故填or。
故填an。

Paris, the capital of France, has some attractive bridges. These are four of the most beautiful bridges in Paris: some in iconic (标志性的) places you’ve seen in the movies, and others in quiet places that you’ll delight in discovering.
Pont des Arts
Connecting the Louvre Museum to the Institut de France, the Pont des Arts, first built by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1804 and reconstructed in the 1970s, is a bridge only for people walking that is beloved by tourists and locals alike. In the spring and summer months, Parisians and visitors come here for lazy picnics overlooking the Seine.
Pont Marle
This lovely but little-known bridge is a gateway between the Marais district on the right bank and a natural island on the Seine River. The current stone structure dates to around 1670, following a fire on its wooden structure that destroyed much of the original bridge and the houses that once stood on it. It has remained much the same since the 18th century, making it one of Paris’ oldest bridges.

The Pont Alexandre Ⅲ is probably the most attractive of Paris’ many bridges. Built between 1896 and 1900, it connects the des Invalides with the gardens of the Petit Palais. It’s after dark that you can best appreciate its delicate statues and other decorative elements.
Pont Neuf

Minoru Yamauchi of Toyota, the general manager for 2020 Robot Development, said Toyota is opening up a new field and becoming a “mobility company” .“We have been looking at how we can support people’s daily life and how we can develop robots that can partner with daily life,” Yamauchi said. “In the Tokyo Olympics, there will be many guests in wheelchairs and we hope they can enjoy the games without worrying about their mobility.”
Panasonic Corporation—also a major Olympic sponsor—showed its “power assist suit”. When worn, the suit offers support to the back and bottom area and allows heavy objects to be lifted with less effort. Panasonic said 20 of the suits will be used in the Tokyo Olympics and can help guests with their luggage. Panasonic also planned to develop entertainment robots to help visitors enjoy their stay in Japan.
Yoshifumi Uchida, general manager of Panasonic, said its power assist suit technology was developed party because of Japan’s aging population. This could help get more women and the elderly into the working population.“ We would like to have a society where people can work without caring about sex differences or age differences,” Uchida said.

Every festival has its own meaning. Labor Day, for example, celebrates the value of hard work. Thanksgiving is about showing thanks to people around you. And Valentines’ Day is a time when you express love to your loved ones. But somehow it now seems that all festivals we just care about one thing — shopping. And that can be a big problem.
“In a way, over-consumption (过度消费) is the mother of all our environmental problems,” Kalle Lasn once told CNN. Lasn is the organizer of Buy Nothing Day, a day set up in Canada in 1992 to fight against unhealthy spending habits, and has now become an international event. It’s held on the day, which is known as Black Friday — a famous shopping day in the US and Canada.
You can see the irony (讽刺) here.
Even though the idea of Buy Nothing Day was brought up 26 years ago, we seem to need it now more than ever. It’s just as Lasn said, all the different kinds of pollution in our lives today — bad air quality, the reduction of forest area, endangered animal species, and plastic bags found in the ocean — seem to be the same cause: over-consumption.
The latest example is the Singles’ Day shopping craze of Nov 11, which saw a new sales record. But as Nie Li, a campaigner at Greenpeace, told Reuters, “Record-setting over-consumption means record-setting waste.” And it was reported that last year the Singles’ Day packages left more than 160,000 tons of waste, including plastic and cardboard. The Collins Dictionary has also just named “single-use” its Word of the Year, pointing out the problem that there’re too many things we tow out after only using them once.
So, Buy Nothing Day might only be here for one day a year, but it’s not just to remind us to the a break from shopping on that day, but to change our lifestyle completely, focusing on fun “with people we care about” rather than wasting money on useless things.
23.What’s the authors purpose of writing the first paragraph

A small robot that can change its shape and produce heat shows potential in targeting cancer cells and preventing internal bleeding. It can also be used for delivering drugs directly to tumors (肿瘤) or inaccessible areas within the human body.
Researchers, led by Ren Hao Soon at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, Germany, developed a centimeter-sized robot inspired by pangolins (穿山甲). It is constructed with soft and magnetic (磁性的) materials, allowing the robot to change its shape.
To enable movement, shape shifting, and heat generation, the researchers applied magnetic fields to the robot’s metal parts. By adjusting the frequency of these fields, the robot was able to heat up and give out heat into its surroundings. The team observed that the robot’s body temperature could be over 70℃.
In addition, the researchers used the robot’s heat to deliver substances within a simulated (模拟的) stomach environment. They attached something simulating medicine capsules onto the robot, which dissolved upon heating, thereby releasing the goods. This technique holds promise for targeted drug delivery inside the body.
Soon, his team also tested the robot’s ability to halt bleeding. They created wounds using a dead pig’s stomach. By pumping blood through a small incision using a syringe, they simulated bleeding. Subsequently, the robot extended and covered the area, giving out heat to help stop bleeding.
According to Jake Abbott from the University of Utah, the robot could potentially be employed for targeted destruction of tumor cells, reducing the need for exposing large amounts of tissue to radiation or chemicals. By raising the robot’s temperature to a level unsafe for normal cells and keeping it in place for a few minutes, cancer cells can be killed. Abbott emphasizes the high temperature sensitivity of the human body.
27.What can we infer about the small robot
A.It has been put into use.
B.It is mainly used to deliver goods.
C.It draws inspiration from the natural world.
D.It can’t be used without adding hard elements.
28.How do the researchers make the robot change shape
A.By using heat. B.By using magnets.
C.By using radiation. D.By using chemicals.

Catherine Garland, a physics professor, started seeing “the problem” in 2019. She’d laid out the assignment clearly during an engineering course, but student after student was calling her over for help. They were all getting the same error message: The program couldn’t find their files.
Garland thought it would be an easy fix. She asked each student where they had saved their project. “Could they be on the desktop Perhaps in the Documents folder ” But over and over, she was met with confusion. “What are you talking about ” multiple students inquired. Gradually, Garland came to the realization: the concept of file folders and directories, essential to previous generations, understanding of computers, is gibberish to many modern students.
Garland’s mental model is commonly known as “directory structure”, the hierarchical system (层级体系) of folders used to arrange files. What have caused the mental model to change It is possible that many students spent their high school years storing documents in the cloud storage like OneDrive and Dropbox rather than in physical spaces. It could also have to do with the other apps they’re accustomed to. “When I want to scroll (滚屏) over to Snapchat, Twitter, they’re not in any particular order, but I know exactly where they are,” says Vogel, who is a devoted iPhone user. Some of it boils down to muscle memory.
It may also be that in an age where every user interface includes a search function, young people have never needed folders or directories. The first internet search engines were used around 1990, but features like Windows Search are products of the early 2000s. While many of today’s professors grew up without search functions, today’s students increasingly don’t remember a world without them.
Some may blame the generational incompetence. An international study claimed that only 2 percent of Generation Z (born from 1997 onwards) had achieved the “digital native” level of computer literacy. But the issue is likely not that modern students are learning fewer digital skills, but rather that they’re learning different ones. Garland, for all her knowledge of directory structure, doesn’t understand Instagram nearly as well as her students do. “They use computers one way, and we use computers another way,” Garland emphasizes. “That’s where the problem lies.”

Kayabuki no Sato, a small village in Kyoto famous for its traditional thatched (茅草的) roof houses, features a hidden sprinkler (洒水器) system that turns the whole place into a water fountain.
Known as Miyama’s Thatched Village, Kayabuki no Sato has a higher percentage of thatched roof farmhouses than any other place in Japan. This makes it very popular with tourists, who love walking among the over 40 traditional thatched roof houses and even spending the night in one of them, but it is also easy for the houses to catch fire. Local officials realized this in the year 2000, when a fire burned down the archive (档案) centre, so apart from asking people to be alert at all time, they decided to install a special sprinkler system to cover the whole village. They test it twice a year, usually in May and December, and people from all over Japan and beyond come to see the powerful sprinklers in action.
You might think that dozens of automated sprinklers dotting a traditional Japanese village would be an eyesore, and you would be right. That is why local authorities decided to maintain the picturesque look of Kayabuki no Sato by hiding the 62 metal sprinklers in small wooden houses similar to the authentic ones. When the system is activated, the roofs of these houses open up like tiny transformers, clearing the way for sprinklers inside to shoot jets of water high into the sky.
The testing of the sprinkler system is such an impressive event that it has become known as the Kayabuki no Sato water hose festival. Strong jets of water are shot into the air by all 62 strategically-placed sprinklers, at the same time, to cover all the thatched roof houses. And if that isn’t an impressive enough sight, on sunny days, the sprinklers also create rainbows over the village.
So if you’re ever in Kyoto during the months of May and December and want to see something truly unique, head over to Kayabuki no Sato, in the Miyama rural area, for the water hose festival. You won’t regret it!
28.What do we know about Kayabuki no Sato from the passage
A.It is famous for its water fountain.
B.Its archive center was once destroyed by floods.

D.It has the highest percentage of thatched roof farmhouses in Japan.
29.What does the underlined word “eyesore” in the third paragraph refer to
A.An unpleasant sight. B.A creative idea.
C.An attractive spot. D.A dangerous situation.
30.What can we learn from the passage
A.The sprinklers are tested once every year.
B.The sprinkler system was installed to create rainbows.
C.The sprinklers are kept in small wooden houses resembling real ones.
D.The roofs of the farmhouses open when the sprinkler system is started.
31.What is the last paragraph but one mainly about
A.How the sprinkler system works.

In the Arab world, a souk (露天市场) is a market usually held in an open-air location. Souks are an important part of life in the Middle East.1 Another attraction of souks is that they offer visitors a great opportunity to feel the local culture.
Most major souks probably started as informal meetings of merchants (商人) in open spaces, which slowly developed into more formal markets.2 For example, some souks have partial ceilings (顶棚) to protect against bad weather, along with narrow streets which do not permit cars.
Everything from glassware to meat can be found at a souk, with merchants coming from nearby areas to sell their products.3 So visitors can easily find beautiful artworks in all shapes and sizes at a souk, often at very reasonable prices.
4 By tradition, shoppers at a souk must negotiate (协商) with shopkeepers to reach a price. For large items, customers will have to sit down with the shopkeeper. They will be offered tea and snacks while the price, including storage and delivery costs sometimes, is discussed.
If you happen to be travelling in the Middle East, just pay a visit to a souk. Some regions have famous markets with a long and interesting history, and a souk is a great place to get souvenirs. You can find a local guide for your visit to ensure that you know local cultural rules well.5
A.Europeans prefer to pay the list price.
B.Many countries in the Middle East have long artistic traditions.
C.That will certainly allow you a more enjoyable day at the market.
D.People may be shocked at the long process of making a deal at souks.

【详解】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍几代人之间在数字技术上相互不理解是因为了解电脑的方式不同,进而产生的不同的思维模式,解决这个问题的办法是增进代际理解;
20.词句猜测题。根据第二段的“She asked each student where they had saved their project. “Could they be on the desktop Perhaps in the Documents folder ”But over and over, she was met with confusion. “What are you talking about ” multiple students inquired.(她问每个学生他们把项目保存在哪里。“它们可能在桌面上吗?可能在Documents文件夹中?”但一次又一次,她遇到了困惑。“你在说什么 ”许多学生问)”可知,学生们不理解Garland所说的desktop或者Documents folder。由此可知,Garland意识到对前几代人来说理解计算机必不可少的文件夹和目录概念,对许多现代学生来说是毫无意义的。即gibberish意为“毫无意义的话”,与nonsense同义。故选C;
21.推理判断题。根据第三段的“What have caused the mental model to change It is possible that many students spent their high school years storing documents in the cloud storage like OneDrive and Dropbox rather than in physical spaces. It could also have to do with the other apps they’re accustomed to. (是什么导致了思维模式的改变?有可能许多学生在高中时期将文件存储在OneDrive和Dropbox这样的云存储中,而不是在物理空间中。这也可能与他们习惯使用的其他应用程序有关)”和第四段“It may also be that in an age where every user interface includes a search function, young people have never needed folders or directories. The first internet search engines were used around 1990, but features like Windows Search are products of the early 2000s. (也可能是在每个用户界面都包含搜索功能的时代,年轻人从来不需要文件夹或目录。第一个互联网搜索引擎是在1990年左右使用的,但像Windows搜索这样的功能是21世纪初的产品)”推知,思维模式的改变反映了科技的进步。故选D;
22.推理判断题。根据第三段的“Garland’s mental model is commonly known as “directory structure”, the hierarchical system (层级体系) of folders used to arrange files. (Garland的思维模式通常被称为“目录结构”,即用于排列文件的文件夹的分层系统)”和“Some of it boils down to muscle memory.(有些可以归结为肌肉记忆)”推知,作者提到Garland和Voge的故事,是为了强调两代人之间不同的思维模式。故选A;
根据最后一段的“But the issue is likely not that modern students are learning fewer digital skills, but rather that they’re learning different ones. Garland, for all her knowledge of directory structure, doesn’t understand Instagram nearly as well as her students do. “They use computers one way, and we use computers another way,” Garland emphasizes. “That’s where the problem lies.”(但问题可能不在于现代学生学习的数字技能越来越少,而在于他们学习的数字技能有所不同。尽管Garland对目录结构很了解,但她对Instagram的理解远不如她的学生。Garland强调:“他们使用电脑的方式是一种,而我们使用电脑的方式是另一种。”“这就是问题所在。”)”推知,解决问题的最好方法是增进代际理解。故选B。

【知识点】旅游、段落大意、细节理解、观点态度、词义猜测、说明文
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.C 31.B
由第二段的第一句“Known as Miyama’s Thatched Village, Kayabuki no Sato has a higher percentage of thatched roof farmhouses than any other place in Japan.”( 被称为“三山茅草村”的佐藤谷武纪是日本茅草屋顶农舍比例最高的地区)可知它拥有全日本最高比例的茅草屋顶农舍。故选D。
由第三段划线词后的那句“That is why local authorities decided to maintain the picturesque look of Kayabuki no Sato by hiding the 62 metal sprinklers in small wooden houses similar to the authentic ones.”(这就是为什么当地政府决定把62个金属洒水器藏在与真房子相似的小木屋里,以保持佐藤Kayabuki no Sato风景如画的样子)解释了为什么要把这些自动化的喷水器隐藏在一些仿真的小木屋里,就是为了不破坏风景如画的茅草屋面貌,所以可以推测出“an eyesore”是与后文的“picturesque look”相悖的含义的词。 故选A。
由第三段的“That is why local authorities decided to maintain the picturesque look of Kayabuki no Sato by hiding the 62 metal sprinklers in small wooden houses similar to the authentic ones.” A项答案错在once,应改为twice(由第二段中的“They test it twice a year, usually in May and December”可知);喷水器的安装目的是为了灭火,而非创造彩虹,所以B选项错了;当喷水系统被激活时,是那些仿真的小木屋的屋顶会像变形金刚一样打开,而非茅草屋的屋顶,所以D选项是错的。故选C。
the last paragraph but one是指倒数第二段。

Celebrity has become one of the most important representatives of popular culture. Fans used to be crazy about a specific film, but now the public 1 to base its consumption on the interest of celebrity attached to any given product. Besides, fashion magazines have almost 2 the practice of putting models on the cover because they don’t sell nearly as well as famous 3 . As a result, celebrities have realized their unbelievably powerful market potential, moving from advertising for others’ products to 4 their own.
Celebrity clothing lines aren’t a 5 new phenomenon, but in the past they were typically aimed at the ordinary consumers, and 6 a few TV actresses. Today they’re started by first-class stars whose products enjoy equal fame with some world top 7 . The most successful start-ups have been those by celebrities with 8 personal style. As celebrities become more and more experienced at the market, they expand their production scale rapidly, 9 almost all the products of daily life.
However, for every success story, there’s a related 10 tale of a celebrity who overvalued his consumer appeal. No matter how famous the product’s 11 is, if it fails to impress consumers with its own qualities, it begins to resemble an exercise in self-promotional marketing. And once the 12 attention dies down, consumer interest might fade, loyalty returning to tried-and-true labels.
Today, celebrities face even more severe embarrassment. The pop-cultural circle might be bigger than ever, but its rate of turnover has speeded up as well. Each misstep threatens to 13 a celebrity’s shelf life, and the same newspaper or magazine that once brought him fame has no problem picking him to pieces when the opportunity appears. 14 , the ego’s (自我的) potential for expansion is limitless. Having already achieved great wealth and public recognition, many celebrities see fashion as the next frontier to be conquered. As the saying goes, success and failure always go hand in hand. Their success as 15 might last a lifetime, but fashion-like celebrity-has always been short-lived.

Four “amateur(业余的) astronauts” are about to launch into orbit in another landmark mission for space tourism. It’s the latest flight to help open up access to space for paying customers. The trip has been paid for by US billionaire businessman Jared Isaacman, who will travel with three crewmates(机组同事). A healthcare worker, a science educator and a data analyst will circle the Earth with Mr. Isaacman for three days. They hope to inspire others with their adventure and to raise money for children’s cancer medicine. Accordingly, the mission has been named Inspiration 4.
The crew’s Dragon vehicle, made by Elon Musk’s company Space X, will ride a Falcon-9 rocket. It is due to launch from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center at 20:02 EDT on Wednesday, or very shortly after. The spacecraft will reach an altitude of 575km, which is about 150km higher than the International Space Station (ISS). The four will then spend their time doing experiments and looking at Earth through a large domed(圆顶状的) window which offers panoramic views of the whole planet.
The mission follows hot on the heels of Sir Richard Branson’s flight aboard his Virgin Galactic rocket plane on 11 July, and fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos’s trip to space nine days later in the New Shepard vehicle. The glass dome has been fitted in place of the mechanism that Dragon normally uses to dock(对接) with the ISS, which isn’t needed on this flight.
In the 60 years since Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin first went into space, fewer than 600 people have followed in his footsteps, and most of those have been military-trained personnel flying on government-sponsored missions. Inspiration 4 is different. It’ll be a fully commercially purchased and operated orbital flight. NASA helped fund the development of a lot of the technology used by Elon Musk’s company, and did so to try to diversify the economy in low-Earth orbit.
16. Why is the mission called Inspiration 4 according to paragraph 1

18. What is the function of the “large domed window” according to paragraph 2
A.It ensures the success of the mission.
B.It enables the crew to observe surrounding planets.
C.The crew can get a full view of the earth through it.
D.The crew can take advantage of it to do experiments.
19. What is the passage mainly about
A.A commercially paid orbital flight.
B.The diversity of space exploration.
C.The development of space technology.
D.A space tour on government-sponsored missions.
Zoologists studied the nervous systems of insects to investigate principles of biological brain computation and possible effects on machine learning and artificial intelligence. Specifically, they analysed how insects learn to associate sensory information in their environment with a food reward, and how they can recall this information later in order to solve complex tasks such as the search for food.
Living organisms show remarkable abilities in coping with problems posed by complex and dynamic environments. They are able to generalize their experiences in order to rapidly adapt their behaviour when the environment changes. The zoologists investigated how the nervous system of the fruit fly controls its behaviour when searching for food.
Using a computer model, they simulated(模拟) and analysed the computations in the fruit fly’s nervous system in response to scents coming from the food source. They initially trained their model of the fly brain in exactly the same way as insects are trained in experiments. They presented a specific scent in the simulation together with a reward and a second scent without a reward.
“The model rapidly learns a strong representation of the rewarded scent after just a few scent presentations and is then able to find the source of this scent in a complex environment,” said computer scientist Dr Hannes Rapp, who created the model.
The model created is thus capable of generalizing from its memory and to apply what it has learned previously in a completely new and complex environment, while learning required only a very small database of training samples.
The results suggest that the transformation of sensory information into memories in the brain can inspire future machine learning and artificial intelligence applications to solving complex tasks.
20. What is the aim of the research

In the age of social distancing, using robots for some health care interactions is a promising way to reduce in-person contact between health care workers and sick patients. However, a key question is how patients will react to a robot entering the room. Researchers from MIT and Brigham and Women’s Hospital recently set out to answer that question.
In a study, the team found that a large majority of patients reported that interacting with a health care provider through a video screen fixed on a robot was similar to an in-person interaction with a health care worker.
“We’re working on robots that can help provide care to ensure the safety of the patient and the health care workforce. The results of this study give us some confidence that people are ready and willing to join us. In a larger online survey carried out nationwide, we also found that a majority of respondents were open to having robots perform small tasks such as taking a nose swab (拭子).” says Giovanni Traverso, an MIT assistant professor and the senior author of the study.
After the COVID-19 pandemic began early last year, Traverso and his colleagues turned their attention toward new strategies to reduce interactions between potentially sick patients and health care workers. To that end, they created a mobile robot that could interact with patients as they waited in the emergency department. The robots were equipped with sensors that allow them to measure vital signs, including skin temperature, breathing rate, and pulse(脉搏) rate. The robots also carried an iPad for remote video communication with a health care provider.
The study suggests that it could be worthwhile to develop robots that can perform tasks that currently require a lot of human effort, such as turning a patient over in bed. These days, turning COVID-19 patients onto their stomachs requires several people. Doing Covid-19 tests is another task that takes a lot of time and effort from health care workers, who could be arranged for other tasks if robots could help.
24.Why did the researchers from MIT and BWH carry out the studies
A.To shorten the social distance between doctors and patients.
B.To figure out the response of patients to robotic doctors.
C.To reduce the risk of being infected with coronavirus.
D.To ensure the safety of patients during the pandemic.
25.What could be learned from the study
A.Robots are not welcomed by patients.
B.Robots will soon replace doctors.
C.Robots may help to deal with Covid-19 patients.
D.Robots can operate on different patients.
26.What is paragraph 5 mainly about
A.Robots can perform tasks that currently require a lot of human effort.
B.Robots can replace health care workers in hospital.
C.Robots will fail doing Covid-19 tests.
D.Health care workers in hospital will lose their jobs.
27.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.Strengths And Weaknesses In Robot Care
B.The Robotic Doctor Will See You Now
C.The Robots Speed Up COVID-19 Testing
D.The Development Of Robots In Hospitals
Climate change demands a food revolution. Faced with heat, drought, pests and diseases, the crops we eat every day might disappear in a generation or less, at least where they are currently grown. From beef and fish to chocolate and wine, one beloved food after another is joining the at-risk list.
Take coffee. Right now, Arabica and Canephora, the most popular two species in the industry, are under urgent threat worldwide—as are the 125 million people who depend on coffee crops for their income. Coffee Arabica plants, which produce 70% of all commercial coffee, can be negatively affected by even a half-degree change in typical weather conditions. This sensitivity to temperature puts the plant at increased risk of the effects of climate change.
In Central America the average temperature has risen by a full degree Celsius since 1960. In Ethiopia the average temperature has increased by 1. 3 degrees. This increase is enough to have significant effects on the plants. In Tanzania the productivity per hectare of coffee has fallen by 45% since the 1960s due to changes in temperature.
Indeed, studies claim that by 2050 the area of the world suitable for growing coffee will be cut by 60%. Coffee production is likely to then be pushed to higher elevations(海拔) to take advantage of lower temperatures, but this will not be enough to make up for lost lowland areas.
Coffee is the second most traded goods by developing nations, and the inability of producer nations to export it could cause dramatic chain reactions in their economies. Millions of people make a living in the production, processing, transport, and sale of coffee; their livelihoods would stand to take a blow as growing areas decrease and prices rise.
As the temperature keeps rising, your cup of coffee will become much more expensive, and it may also carry an aftertaste bitterer than usual, for all those workers in the coffee belt left without the means to make a living as conditions worsen. Not only that, but the economic effects will cost the West millions in increased foreign aid.
28.Which is NOT one of the contributors to the disappearing food species
A.Drought. B.Poverty. C.Climate change. D.Pests.
29.How does the author prove the effects of climate change on coffee planting
A.By listing examples of foods. B.By presenting figures.
C.By making a prediction. D.By analyzing causes and effects.
30.Why will people have to grow coffee in highland areas
A.To adapt to the change of temperature.
B.To increase the quality of the produce.
C.To reduce the cost of coffee production.
D.To get access to water supply more easily.
31.What can be learnt from the last two paragraphs
A.The rich will get richer and the poor poorer.
B.It will cost you more to have a cup of coffee.
C.Developed countries ought to aid poor countries.
D.Coffee trade will eventually disappear in the world.
The Lipstick Effect
In 2020, the world fell into an economic downturn as the COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread closures to businesses. 32 During such times of economic hardship, one may naturally expect that consumer markets will see a decline in expenditure (支出), as people everywhere feel restricted to making only “essential” purchases. However, a curious phenomenon known as the “lipstick effect” can often be observed.
The lipstick effect refers to the phenomenon of consumers spending on small luxury goods even when an economic depression occurs. 33 However, many still find the cash for purchases of small luxury items, such as lipstick. This phenomenon was termed the “lipstick effect” in 2001 by Leonard Lauder, chairman of luxury cosmetic company Estée Lauder. He had not only witnessed the phenomenon at work but also realized that it was especially evident in the case of lipstick and other cosmetic products.
34 First and perhaps most obviously, consumers may simply wish to give themselves treats now and again to provide distractions from their financial insecurity. Another theory has to do with labour markets. Specifically, during the economic depression, job seeking tends to become more competitive. Thus, people seeking employment may perceive a need to spend money on certain products to improve their physical appearance. 35
36 During the global depression of 2007-2009, sales of cosmetic in the United States increased by around 5%. Based on such data, it seems that even in the current insecure economic climate, the luxury cosmetics industry is one that will be sticking around.
A.What does lipstick tell us about the economy
B.They do not have enough to spend on big-ticket luxury items.
C.The lipstick effect is a behavior that reflects economic conditions and emotional states.
D.So, how exactly do consumers who are short of cash justify making such purchases
E.By using products such as lipstick, they may feel more confident during job interviews.
F.Whatever the causes of the lipstick effect, this phenomenon is no short-lived trend.
G.Under these circumstances, millions of people suddenly found themselves facing financial insecurity.

Last Thursday when the competition exam ended, I changed two answers while the teacher was out answering a call. The eraser marks still stayed at the corner, where revising the answers turned the grade from 95 into 97 — this lying number — My family was really in great financial difficulty. Deep in my pencil case hid Jack’s draft paper, which dropped from his desk right at my feet, covered with his neat problem-solving steps.
That night at dinner, Mom handed me the last chicken leg, her fingertips still smelling of dish soap from the 24-hour diner night shift. “Principal Miller called”, she coughed, “all of the participants of the competition will attend the award ceremony next Monday, and as a winner, you’ll make a speech in front of all the audience.” I didn’t answer but just counted the pieces of cloth for repair on her apron (围裙), remembering her nighttime coughs during overtime shifts. My chopsticks tapped the bowl edge. The real winner should be Jack, who always stayed after class to explain equations (方程式) on the whiteboard. His score was 96.
Rain tapped against the classroom windows the next day. I found Jack in the empty classroom, chewing a dry bread at his desk. His glasses were foggy from the wet walk to school. “Congratulations,” he wiped his glasses, pulling his bag with holes showing the stuffing, “Dad’s lost his job, and I really need that scholarship… never mind.”
Moonlight fell on my speech paper titled “Honesty and Hard Work.” I remembered Jack helping me with math after class, his finger drawing numbers in the air.“ Like this,” he’d say, giving me his eraser when mine broke.
I couldn’t fall asleep all that night. An inner voice echoed: “Do what makes you sleep well.” I stood outside the teachers’ office early the next morning. Through the door crack, I saw Principal Miller’s coffee cup steaming.

根据第一段“However, a key question is how patients will react to a robot entering the room. Researchers from MIT and Brigham and Women’s Hospital recently set out to answer that question.(然而,一个关键的问题是,当机器人进入病房时,病人会作何反应。来自麻省理工学院和布莱根妇女医院的研究人员最近开始着手回答这个问题。)”可知,MIT和BWH进行研究是为了弄明白病人对于机器人医生的反应。故选B项。
25.
细节理解题。根据第三段“After the COVID-19 pandemic began early last year, Traverso and his colleagues turned their attention toward new strategies to reduce interactions between potentially sick patients and health care workers. To that end, they created a mobile robot that could interact with patients as they waited in the emergency department.(在去年年初COVID-19大流行开始后,特拉弗索和他的同事将注意力转向减少潜在患者和医护人员之间互动的新策略。为此,他们创造了一个移动机器人,可以在病人在急诊科等待时与他们互动。)”可知,机器人的作用主要是用来和新冠潜在患者互动,做一些简单的检查,减少医护人员和新冠潜在患者接触。故选C项。
26.
主旨大意题。根据第五段“The study suggests that it could be worthwhile to develop robots that can perform tasks that currently require a lot of human effort, such as turning a patient over in bed. These days, turning COVID-19 patients onto their stomachs requires several people. Doing Covid-19 tests is another task that takes a lot of time and effort from health care workers, who could be arranged for other tasks if robots could help.(这项研究表明,开发出能够执行目前需要大量人力完成的任务的机器人是值得的,比如为躺在床上的病人翻身。如今,让新冠肺炎患者俯卧需要几个人。做Covid-19测试是另一项需要医护人员大量时间和精力的任务,如果机器人可以帮助他们,他们可以被安排做其他任务。)”可知,这里主要说的是机器人可以代替医护人员做大量的人力工作,让医护人员有更多的精力做其他的事情。故选A项。
27.
根据整篇文章来理解,根据第一段“In the age of social distancing, using robots for some health care interactions is a promising way to reduce in-person contact between health care workers and sick patients.(在社交距离时代,使用机器人进行一些医疗互动是一种有希望的方式,可以减少医护人员和患者之间的面对面接触。)”,最后一段也在强调机器人能够做很多的人力工作,由第五段“The study suggests that it could be worthwhile to develop robots that can perform tasks that currently require a lot of human effort, such as turning a patient over in bed.(这项研究表明,开发出能够执行目前需要大量人力完成的任务的机器人是值得的,比如为躺在床上的病人翻身。)”

根据第一段中“Faced with heat, drought, pests and diseases, the crops we eat every day might disappear in a generation or less, at least where they are currently grown.( 面对高温、干旱、病虫害,我们每天食用的作物可能在一代人或更短的时间内消失,至少在目前种植的地方是这样。)”
根据第二段中“Coffee Arabica plants, which produce 70% of all commercial coffee, can be negatively affected by even a half-degree change in typical weather conditions. This sensitivity to temperature puts the plant at increased risk of the effects of climate change.( 阿拉比卡咖啡的产量占所有商业咖啡产量的70%,在典型的天气条件下,即使是半度的变化也会对其产生负面影响。这种对温度的敏感性使植物面临更大的受气候变化影响的风险。)”可知,在本段中,以咖啡为例。分析了气温的变化导致了咖啡产量的减少。由此通过分析原因和阐述结果,来证明气候变化对咖啡种植的影响。故选D。
30.
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Coffee production is likely to then be pushed to higher elevations(海拔) to take advantage of lower temperatures, but this will not be enough to make up for lost lowland areas.( 咖啡生产很可能会被推到海拔更高的地方,以利用较低的温度,但这不足以弥补失去的低地地区。)” 故选A。
31.
根据倒数第二段中“Coffee is the second most traded goods by developing nations, and the inability of producer nations to export it could cause dramatic chain reactions in their economies. (咖啡是发展中国家第二大贸易量的商品,生产国无法出口咖啡可能会在经济中引发巨大的连锁反应。)”以及倒数第一段中“ As the temperature keeps rising, your cup of coffee will become much more expensive, and it may also carry an aftertaste bitterer than usual, for all those workers in the coffee belt left without the means to make a living as conditions worsen.

由上文“In 2020, the world was plunged into an economic down turn as the COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread closures to businesses. (2020年,由于COVID-19大流行导致企业普遍关闭,世界陷入了经济衰退)”可知,本空要说跟“经济衰退对人们影响”有关的话题,由下文“During such times of economic hardship, one may naturally expect that consumer markets will see a decline in expenditure, as people everywhere feel restricted to making only “essential” purchases. (在这样的经济困难时期,人们可能会自然地预期消费市场将看到支出的下降,因为各地的人们都感到只能购买“必需品”)”可知,本句要表达经济衰退对人们消费态度的影响,故G选项“Under these circumstances, millions of people suddenly found themselves facing financial insecurity. (在这种情况下,数以百万计的人突然发现自己面临着经济上的不安全)”承接上文提到的疫情导致经济衰退的情况,并引出下文,符合语境。故选G。
33.由上文“The lipstick effect refers to the phenomenon of consumers spending on small luxury goods even when an economic depression occurs. (“口红效应”是指即使经济不景气,消费者也会购买小型奢侈品的现象)”可知,本空要说跟“购买小型奢侈品的原因”有关的话题,由下文“However, many still find the cash for purchases of small luxury items, such as lipstick. (然而,许多人仍然会用现金购买口红等小型奢侈品)”可知,本句要与后文构成转折。故B选项“They do not have enough to spend on big-ticket luxury items. (他们没有足够的钱购买高价奢侈品)”与下文形成对比,先说明人们在经济萧条时没钱买大件奢侈品,接着转折说仍会买小奢侈品,能承上启下,符合语境。故选B。
34.由下文“First and perhaps most obviously, consumers may simply wish to give themselves treats now and again to provide distractions from their financial insecurity. Another theory has to do with labour markets. Specifically, during the economic depression, job seeking tends to become more competitive. Thus, people seeking employment may perceive a need to spend money on certain products to improve their physical appearance.
35.由上文“Thus, people seeking employment may perceive a need to spend money on certain products to improve their physical appearance. (因此,寻找工作的人可能会觉得有必要花钱购买某些产品来改善他们的外表)”可知,本空要说跟“改善他们的外表的好处”有关的话题,故E选项“By using products such as lipstick, they may feel more confident during job interviews. (通过使用口红等产品,他们可能会在求职面试中感到更加自信)”进一步说明了使用口红等产品对求职者的好处,与上文关于求职的内容相呼应,符合语境。故选E。
36.由下文“During the global depression of 2007-2009, sales of cosmetic in the United States increased by around 5%. Based on such data, it seems that even in the current insecure economic climate, the luxury cosmetics industry is one that will be sticking around.(在2007-2009年的全球经济大萧条期间,美国化妆品的销售额增长了约5%。

I took a deep breath and knocked on the principal’s door. Principal Miller’s coffee steam moved in the air as I showed my changed answers. “The real score should be 95,” I said, pointing at the faint eraser marks on the paper. “I changed two answers here and that’s how the grade went up to 97.” When I gave her Jack’s draft paper with the solution process written on it, she touched the sunlight on his handwriting. “Two wrongs don’t make a right,” she said, “but one brave act can fix two hearts.” Her pen added both our names — mine in blue ink, Jack’s in gold.
The ceremony arrived, and Principal Miller announced two scholarship winners: Jack and me. The crowd whispered until she raised my speech paper. “Look closely,” she said. Under the title “Honesty and Hard Work”, faint pencil marks showed where I’d written “Cheating” then erased it. “Growth is when mistakes become lessons,” she explained. Jack’s confused eyes met mine until Principal Miller pointed to his repaired backpack — His mother had mended the holes with cloth. “Some fix errors with erasers,” she said, “others mend hearts with threads.” When stage lights hit us, the 95 and 96 on our certificates blurred into one golden glow.
