A poor woodcutter's children, Tyltyl and Mytyl, are sent by a fairy to find the Blue Bird of Happiness for her sick granddaughter.
Using a magic diamond, they bring household objects(like Dog, Cat, Bread, and Light) to life and journey through magical lands visiting the past, confronting fears in darkness, seeing the future, and discovering false joys.
Though they find blue birds everywhere, none lasts.When they return home empty handed, they discover their own pet dove has turned blue. They give it to the sick girl, who is healed, but the bird flies away. Tyltyl learns that true happiness isn't far away-it's found in kindness, gratitude, and the simple joys of home.

Finally, Glinda the Good Witch tells Dorothy she always had the power to go home using her ruby slippers.
