I didn't know what to do. I called out to my friends, but there was no reply. I tried to look for a way but none of the scenes seemed familiar. I walked for a few more minutes and I got tired and hungry. I felt frightened. Finally, I gave up and took a rest. As I was falling asleep, I heard a human voice. It was unbelievable, and then I heard someone else. I let out a cry, "Help!"Fortunately, they found me with great effort. My friends Jake and Liam told the guide that they found I was lost, and finally some rescuers were called to help. They led me back to the bus. Seeing me, my friends told me they were really worried. I apologized to them for leaving the group without telling them. Instead of feeling angry with me, they comforted me and helped me calm down. And I truly learned a good lesson from it—never leave your group members when you're in a new place. AWelcome to join our Summer Youth Language Program to improve English language skills, make new friends worldwide, and have a good time here! D.$3, 040.3.What should a student bring A.Necessary clothes. B.Snacks.C.Foods. D.A computer.BResearchers from the University of Western Australia recently studied 3, 000 middle and high school students. Among them were 618 teenagers with one parent who lived away from home for long periods of time because of work. The researchers wanted to know how the work of these "fly-in, fly-out" parents might influence the health of their children.A higher percentage(比例) of teenagers who experienced the long absence of a parent had emotional(情感的) or behavioural problems compared with those whose parents worked more traditional hours. This supports earlier research that found a high percentage of emotional problems in teenagers who often returned to an empty house after school or whose parents were seldom at dinner.Findings also suggest that parents don't have to be home all the time, but it helps to be home at certain times. And the best parental presence for a teenager may sometimes be like a potted(盆栽的) plant. Many parents of teenagers have known this to be true and find ways to be present without trying to start a conversation. One friend of mine quietly does housework each evening in the sitting room where her teenagers watch TV. They enjoy each other's company without the need to talk. Another friend usually accepts his daughter's invitation to work or read nearby while she sits and does her homework. Perhaps, that, at least for some families, is the best way for a teenager and their parents to stay close. In fact, many years of research suggests that children use their parents as a safe base(基地,大本营) from which to explore the world. Studies tell us that young children quietly follow their parents' movements from room to room, even while going on with their own activities. Perhaps our teens, like babies, feel most at ease when their parents are still around. They don't want to stay away from parents who allow them freedom.A new school year is at hand, so as parents we could offer our teenagers a "potted flower", as a gift, whose quiet and steady(稳定的) presence will give them a great day.4.What did the study find about the 618 teens A.They had more dinners with their parents.B.They were more prepared to help themselves.C.They showed more dislike for traditional working hours.D.They were more likely(可能的) to have trouble with their feelings.5.What is the author's attitude to her two friends' behaviour A.She doubts them. B.She supports them.C.She is worried about them. D.She cares little about them.6.What does earlier research say about young kids according to paragraph 5 A.They want their parents' presence.B.They want their parents to be safe.C.They want more freedom from parents.D.They show more interest in new activities.7.Which can be a suitable title for the text A.Teens Want Potted-Plant ParentsB.Your Kids Still Need ConversationC.Quiet Families Raise Healthier TeenagersD.Parents Know Little About Today's TeenagersCHundreds of friends on Meta can't replace a handful of close friends in real life, a study has found. In a recent study, researchers discovered that people with only a few friends were at least as happy as those with far more if many of theirs were online. The social media, the researchers said, has encouraged younger people to have larger but more impersonal networks of "friends". But instead of trying to amass friends, they added, a better cure for loneliness might be spending time with those you're closest to.Scientists from the University of Leeds did their study using data from two online surveys on 1, 496 people by a non-profit research organization. People taking part in the study showed their ages, the make-up of their social networks, how often they had different types of social interactions, and their own feelings of well-being. They included details of how often and how they interacted (交流) with families or neighbors, and whether they included people who provided services to them in their networks. The number of close friends someone had appeared to be the only thing which influenced how satisfied they were with their social life."Loneliness has less to do with the number of friends you have, and more to do with how you feel about your friends," said Dr W ndi Bruine de Bruin. Actually, it's often the younger adults who admit to having a bad opinion of their friends. If you feel lonely, it may be more helpful to make a positive connection with a friend than to try and seek out new people to meet.8.Which of the following can replace the underlined word "amass" in paragraph 2 A.Play the role of. B.Think highly of.C.Take advantage of. D.Increase the number of.9.What can be learned from the scientists' study A.Scientists did one online survey on 1, 496 people.B.People surveyed mentioned new forms of social networks.C.People surveyed showed their ways to interact with families.D.The number of friends was the only cause of people's happiness.10.What makes people happy in social life A.Living alone.B.Having close friends.C.Having good appearance.D.Making as many friends as possible.11.What's the author's purpose in writing the text A.To advise us to make friends online.B.To show us the importance of friends.C.To present us with the findings of a study.D.To tell us the problems caused by loneliness.DMicroplastics have become a common source of pollution across the Earth — they have settled in the deep sea and on the Himalayas, stuck inside volcanic rocks, filled the stomachs of seabirds and even fallen in fresh Antarctic snow. They are even appearing inside humans. Now, new research suggests that a simple, cheap measure may significantly reduce the level of microplastics in water from your tap (水龙头): boiling and filtering (过滤) it. In a study published Wednesday in Environmental Science & Technology Letters, researchers from China found that boiling tap water for just five minutes — then filtering it after it cools — could remove at least 80 percent of its microplastics.Crucially, this process relies on the water containing enough calcium carbonate (碳酸钙) to trap the plastics. In the study, boiling hard water containing 300 milligrams of calcium carbonate led to an almost 90 percent drop in plastics. But in samples with less than 60 milligrams of calcium carbonate, boiling reduced the level of plastics by just 25 percent. Additionally, the research didn’t include all types of plastics. The team focused only on three common types — polystyrene, polyethylene and polypropylene — and they didn’t study other chemicals previously found in water such as vinyl chloride.Still, the findings show a potential path forward for reducing microplastic exposure — a task that’s becoming increasingly difficult. Even bottled water, scientists found earlier this year, contains 10 to 1,000 times more microplastics than originally thought.Scientists are still trying to determine how harmful microplastics are — but what they do know has raised concerns. The new study suggests boiling tap water could be a tool to limit intake. “The way they demonstrated how microplastics were trapped through the boiling process was nice,” Caroline Gauchotte-Lindsay, an environmental engineer of the University of Glasgow in Scotland who was not involved in the research, tells New Scientist. “We should be looking into upgrading drinking water treatment plants so they remove microplastics.”12. How does the author present the issue in the first paragraph A. By quoting an expert. B. By defining a concept.C. By giving examples. D. By providing statistics.13. What determines the effectiveness of trapping microplastics in water A. The hardness of water. B. The length of cooling time.C. The frequency of filtering. D. The type of plastic in water.14. What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning bottled water in paragraph 4 A. The importance of plastic recycling. B. The severity of the microplastic problem.C. The danger in overusing pure water. D. The difficulty in treating polluted water.15. What is Gauchotte-Lindsay’s suggestion about A. Choice of new research methods. B. Possible direction for further study.C. Need to involve more researchers. D. Potential application of the findings.第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Birdwatching is a fun hobby for many people. They asked me if I would like to go with them. I love outdoor activities, so I agreed. It was sunny the following morning. I was so excited about hiking since it was the first time that I had hiked with them. I ate a light breakfast. After that, I hurriedly ran out of my house to meet them in the school playground. The jungle where we were going was far from our school. Its name is Salymbia Jungle. It took about three hours to go there by bus, but it wasn't a boring journey as we were all eager to hike. After we got off the bus, we found a local guide to ensure our safety. The guide, whose name is Thomas, said that he had hiked in the Salymbia Jungle lots of times and that he was familiar(熟悉的) with the route(路线). When we arrived, Thomas told us never to leave the group because we would easily get lost in the jungle if we walked alone. Then we began to hike. There were different kinds of plants which we had never seen before. All of us were amazed at the beauty of the scenery and the sounds of the creatures. Sadly, after hiking for about an hour, I found that my watch was gone. I realized that my watch had fallen off. It was a gift from my grandma, and I loved it very much. Without thinking, I turned back and tried to find my watch. Since I was the last one walking in the group, nobody noticed it when I walked away.I wasn't worried about getting lost because I thought I could find my watch easily. However, when I finally found my watch and tried to catch up with my friends, they had gone far.
