Very few people enjoy going to the dentist, especially for a filling. Often fillings need to be replaced during the patients' lifetime. But is filling the cavity (蛀牙洞) with a foreign material really the best treatment What if the tooth could repair itself with its own material—dentine (牙质) Researchers at King's College London have found a process that may replace the traditional method.
Paul Sharpe of King's College London says a new treatment for cavities is simpler. It uses a drug that causes the tooth to fill in the hole naturally with dentine. “It involves putting a drug in the hole. It excites a natural process, which starts to occur anyway following the damage, so you can actually get the big hole repaired and the repair is the production of the natural material, the dentine.”
Usually a new drug requires repeated testing before it is approved for treatment. However, this drug that produces the regrowth material in teeth has already been approved. It is a drug used to treat Alzheimer's disease and other disorders of the nervous system. Researchers explain that they use only a small amount and they use it locally. Usually that means the medicine is put directly on the affected area. It does not travel through the patient's blood.
Nigel Carter heads Britain's Oral Health Foundation. He describes the new treatment as an exciting possibility for dental care. But Carter also has a warning, “Actually regrowing the tooth that has been lost with a cavity would be really a huge step forward. But it's also important that we remember that we shouldn't be getting the cavity in the first place. We're talking about a totally preventable disease.”

A.It has little effect on Alzheimer's disease.
B.It is being tested before it gets final approval.
C.It has been put to use for treating other diseases.
D.It travels through the patients' blood and has side effects.
19.Which of the following would Nigel Carter most probably agree with
A.Taking good care of teeth in daily life is the first choice.

[江苏连云港高级中学2022高二期中]Around the country and around the world, there is no shortage of human suffering. Poverty, disease, violence, hurricanes, wildfire and more are constantly troubling humanity, and even our best efforts thus far can't address all of everybody's needs. Many are looking for places to cut funding, and one of the first places that comes up in conversation is excessive spending on space exploration. What good is it to conduct microgravity experiments repeatedly when children are starving Why launch so many space-related projects when nuclear war threatens our planet
This is a line of thinking that has been coming up throughout history. Yes, it's short sighted, in that it fails to recognise that our greatest problems require long-term investment, and that society's greatest advances come about through hard work, research, development, and often are realised decades after that is made. Investing in science is investing in the betterment of humanity.
Over these years, many of the results of the space research have been adapted to be applicable to our daily lives. For example, NASA's advancements in the areas of robotics have given manufacturers an additional basis for the development of more advanced artificial limbs. Additionally, certain nutritional enrichment ingredients (成分) that were developed by NASA have been integrated into baby food formula.
Space technology has also helped improve economies. Within the next three years, the space exploration and space tourism industry are expected to be valued at?$3 trillion. It is true that for every dollar we spend on the space programme, the US economy receives about?$8 of economic benefit. Space exploration can also serve as the motivation for children to enter the fields of science and engineering.
To many people, the idea of space travel may still seem far from practical. However, I believe that it is important that we keep going forward or we'll risk delaying further discoveries and technological advancements that will be beneficial for us.
20.According to Paragraph 1, what do some people think of space exploration
A.Useless.
B.Wasteful.
C.Beneficial.
D.Harmful.
21.What does the underlined word “that” in the second paragraph refer to
A.The advance.
B.The development.
C.The investment.
D.The problem.
22.How does NASA's advancements contribute to the development of artificial limbs
A.By providing a foundation.
B.By adding certain materials.
C.By acting as a driving force.
D.By helping realise the mass production.
23.What can we infer from the last two paragraphs
A.Space programmes are of great benefit to us.
B.Space travel appears to be within people's reach.
C.More and more children are interested in science.
D.New technological discoveries have been delayed.
[四川成都外国语学校2022高二月考]The first set of Chinese stories presented in English scripts (剧本), titled Stories of China: Performed in English, was officially published by Foreign Languages Press. It has become a habit for many of us. When you're tired of online shopping, you head to the bathroom to do your best make up for the perfect selfie (自拍照) for Meta, Instagram, Snapchat or all of the above. When you're ready, you hold up your phone and, in an instant, snap (拍照).
But have you ever wondered what's behind your burning desire to self-document?Most people would say that this is a way to express themselves and perhaps make them become more confident about themselves. But the moment you upload that picture, it's no longer yours to judge. Instead, you pass on that power to the online world.
While you may think that your growing collection of selfies attracts people, quite the opposite may be true. A recent study was conducted on a total of 238 people in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.77% of the people surveyed admitted to regularly taking selfies. Interestingly, 82% of the people said that they would rather see fewer selfies on social media. In other words, we like taking selfies but seriously dislike looking at other people's selfies online.
This research finds that there is a big difference between how we see our own selfies and how we judge other people's pictures. It suggests that we are comfortable with the selfies we post since we believe they are obviously not artificial or vain, but we think everyone else is an egoist (自我主义者) for doing the very same thing. After all, we are able to separate our own selfies from the sea of them online and naturally think that ours are the only authentic ones.
So, next time you reach for your phone and take a selfie, consider this: The people around you may not need another carefully planned snap of your face. Instead, you might be better off giving it a break and calling off the selfie today. While you're at it, make sure you never post these pictures on social media either.
28.What is most people's idea about taking their own selfies according to the text
A.It's a good way to keep others informed of their life.
B.It costs less money than shopping online for make up.
C.It's a way of self-expression and building confidence.
D.It can help them keep a record of their daily routines.
29.How do other people feel about our online selfies that we consider attractive
A.They actually take a great interest in them.
B.They envy our life after appreciating them.
C.They are likely unwilling to see them online.
D.They hardly make annoying reviews on them.
30.Why do we regard others as egoists for taking selfies
A.They are not artificial but vain in nature.
B.We don't think their selfies are authentic.
C.We are too proud to acknowledge others.
D.They hate getting their selfies polished.
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Approaches to resisting taking selfies.
B.Concerns over posting selfies online.
C.Doubts about contradictory thoughts.
D.Suggestions on dealing with selfies.
What do you think about “regifting” — giving someone else a gift that you received before Is it dishonest to pretend that you bought the gift for the person you’re giving it to 32 Frankly speaking, regifting is something many of us have felt uncertain or hesitant about. Chances are that we get a gift that, however well-intentioned, just doesn’t match our needs or our lives and thus will go unused. So rather than have it add to household clutter or get thrown out, why not regift
33 Gift-giving happens within a web of relationships, and there are feelings to be considered (“Where’s that purple scarf I knitted you last Christmas ”). Seriously uncomfortable social situations ought to be avoided (“Why is there a greeting card from someone else for you inside this gift box ”). There are times when integrity might require us to inform the original giver of our intention to regift, even if the conversation might be awkward. 34 We also hope it shouldn’t be something they’ll just regift again and again.
But if you think about it, the three gifts the Magi brought to Jesus in Matthew 2 weren’t all that practical. If I got those three gifts, I’d probably keep the gold. 35
Keeping these considerations in mind, I say, “Re-gift away!” 36 In her book Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer points out that in Indigenous and Native American cultures, the attitude toward giving is different: “Whatever we have been given is supposed to be given away again.”
A.There are, of course, considerations.
B.However, I’d probably regift the other two.
C.To some extent, our unwillingness to regift is a cultural attitude.
D.Sometimes, regifting can be seen as a smart way to save money.
E.Regifting is a common practice in many cultures around the world.
F.Is it also ungrateful to the person who gave it to you in the first place
G.And we hope that the person getting the regift actually needs and likes it.

【答案】32.F 33.A 34.G 35.B 36.C
上文“What do you think about ‘regifting’ — giving someone else a gift that you received before Is it dishonest to pretend that you bought the gift for the person you’re giving it to (你怎么看待“转送礼物”——把之前收到的礼物送给别人?假装你买的礼物是要送给对方,这是不诚实的吗)”说明提出关于转送礼物的两个问题,空处和前文为顺接关系,应继续围绕转送礼物提出相关问题。所以F项“对一开始就把礼物送给你的人来说,这也是不知感恩的吗?”符合语境。F选项中的also与上文中的两个问题相呼应,进一步提出关于转送礼物是否不知感恩的问题。故选F。
33.上文“So rather than have it add to household clutter or get thrown out, why not regift (所以与其让它增加家里的杂乱或被扔掉,为什么不转送呢?)” 下文“Gift-giving happens within a web of relationships, and there are feelings to be considered (“Where’s that purple scarf I knitted you last Christmas ”).(送礼发生在错综复杂的人际关系网络之中,而且有些情感因素也需要考虑在内(比如:“我去年圣诞节给你织的那条紫色围巾去哪儿了?” ))”阐述转赠时需要考虑的人际关系和情感因素,如避免尴尬场景、告知原赠礼人等。空处和前文为顺接关系,并引出下文的内容。所以A项“当然,也有一些需要考虑的因素。”符合语境。A选项中的“considerations”与下文提到的各种需要考虑的情况相呼应,明确指出转赠存在需要考虑的因素,与后文的具体考量形成总分关系,衔接自然。故选A。
34.上文“There are times when integrity might require us to inform the original giver of our intention to regift, even if the conversation might be awkward.(有时候,为了保持正直,我们可能需要告诉最初送礼物的人我们打算转送,即使对话可能会很尴尬)”说明在转送礼物时,有时需要告知最初的送礼者。下文“We also hope it shouldn’t be something they’ll just regift again and again.(我们也希望这不会是一件他们会一再转送出去的东西)”中的“also hope”表明这是另一个希望达成的条件。
35.上文“But if you think about it, the three gifts the Magi brought to Jesus in Matthew 2 weren’t all that practical. If I got those three gifts, I’d probably keep the gold.(但如果你仔细想想,马太福音2中东方三博士带给耶稣的三件礼物并不都那么实用。如果我收到那三件礼物,我可能会留下金子)”说明通过对比东方三博士带给耶稣的三件礼物,作者表示自己可能会留下金子。空处和前文为转折关系,说明而其他两件礼物可能会被转送。所以B项“不过,我可能会转送其他两件。”符合语境。B选项中的“However”与上文形成转折,表明作者对其他两件礼物的处理方式与金子不同。故选B。
36.下文“In her book Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer points out that in Indigenous and Native American cultures, the attitude toward giving is different: “Whatever we have been given is supposed to be given away again.”(在她的书《编织甜草》中,Robin Wall Kimmerer指出,在原住民和美洲原住民文化中,对给予的态度是不同的:“无论我们得到什么,都应该再次给予。”)”

After years of observing human nature, I have decided that two qualities make the difference between men of great achievement and men of average performance curiosity and discontent. I have never known an outstanding man who lacked either. And I have never known an average man who had both. The two belong together.
Together, these deep human urges(驱策力)count for much more than ambition. Galileo was not merely ambitious when he dropped objects of varying weights from the Leaning Tower at Pisa and timed their fall to the ground. Like Galileo, all the great names in history were curious and asked in discontent, “Why Why Why ”
Fortunately, curiosity and discontent don't have to be learned. We are born with them and need only recapture them.
“The great man,” said Mencius(孟子), “is he who does not lose his child's heart.” Yet most of us do lose it. We stop asking questions. We stop challenging custom. We just follow the crowd. And the crowd desires restful average. It encourages us to occupy our own little corner, to avoid foolish leaps into the dark, to be satisfied.
Most of us meet new people, and new ideas, with hesitation. But once having met and liked them, we think how terrible it would have been, had we missed the chance. We will probably have to force ourselves to waken our curiosity and discontent and keep them awake.
How should you start Modestly, so as not to become discouraged. I think of one friend who couldn't arrange flowers to satisfy herself. She was curious about how the experts did it. How she is one of the experts, writing books on flower arrangement.
One way to begin is to answer your own excuses. You haven't any special ability Most people don't; there are only a few geniuses. You haven't any time That's good, because it's always the people with no time who get things done. Harriet Stowe, mother of six, wrote parts of Uncle Tom's Cabin while cooking. You're too old Remember that Thomas Costain was 57 when he published his first novel, and that Grandma Moses showed her first pictures when she was 78.
However you start, remember there is no better time to start than right now, for you'll never be more alive than you are at this moment.

A.propose a definition B.make a comparison

18.What can you do to recapture curiosity and discontent
A.Observe the unknown around you.
B.Develop a questioning mind.
C.Lead a life of adventure.
D.Follow the fashion.
19.What could be the best title of the passage
A.Curious Minds Never Feel Contented
B.Reflections on Human Nature

According to conventional wisdom in the West, there was little formal law in China prior to the 20th century, and what did exist was completely penal(惩罚性的) in nature. In fact, this characterization wrongly states the law and legal institutions(法律制定) in pre-20th-century China.
Recent archaeological work suggests that law in China antedates(早于) the life and thought of the influential thinker Kongfuzi or Confucius(551—479 BCE). Yet Confucianism(儒家思想) is central to an understanding of pre-20th-century Chinese law. Confucianism held that the “five relationships”—those between ruler and subject, husband and wife, father and son, elder brother and younger brother, and friend and friend—are the foundation of a well-ordered society.
Confucians stressed that each individual should promote his inner virtue (de) and demonstrate filial piety (xiao), which enable him to maintain and strengthen these relationships and to properly meet the responsibilities that go with them, in Confucius’ words in the collection of sayings known as Lunyu,
If the people be led by laws...they will try to avoid punishment,
but have no sense of shame. If they be led by virtue...
they will have a sense of shame and moreover will become good.
The earliest imperial Chinese legal code(法典), that of the Qin dynasty (221—206 BCE), was made under Qin Shihuangdi, who was far more influenced by Legalism(法家思想), a philosophical school whose representative thinkers took human nature to be cruel. They believed accordingly that law would provide a more effective mechanism(机制) for social order than Confucian morality would. The Qin sought to destroy Confucianism-by burning texts and also scholars—but was unsuccessful. In fact, the Qin code reserved elements similar to Confucianism. The Han dynasty (206 BCE—220 CE) filled the ranks of officialdom(官僚) with Confucian scholars and reconstructed and strengthened the five relationships. In a process that was called the “Confucianization of law,” the Han Code provided that offenses committed by juniors (e.g., sons) against their senior relations (e.g., fathers) should be punished more severely(严厉地) than the opposite, though according to Confucian thinking it would be better that morality should be observed and that no punishment need be invoked(援用).
20.What is mainly talked about in this passage
A.The role of formal law in China before the 20th century.
B.The actual feature of Chinese law before the 20th century.
C.The difference between Confucianism and Legalism.
D.The history of Chinese law before the 20th century.

A.“Five relationships” are the most difficult to maintain.
B.A society should carry out both Confucianism and Legalism.
C.Virtue is central to the foundation of a well-ordered society.
D.Punishment will result in people’s sense of shame.
22.The key difference between the Qin Code and the Han Code lies in ______.
A.the content of the five relationships
B.people’s responsibilities
C.the ranks of officialdom
D.the understanding of human nature
23.Which of the following does the author support
A.Chinese law before the 20th century has a penal nature.
B.Confucianism plays a leading role in the pre-20th-century Chinese law.
C.Everyone should develop his inner virtue and demonstrate filial piety.
D.A child offending his father should be punished more severely than the opposite.
Pottery (制陶) may be the oldest artwork of human beings. As far back to more than 8,000 years ago, people began mixing clay (黏土) and water then baking it until it held its shape. People attached the word “pottery” to their discovery. For a more convenient and better life, ancient people used it to create various containers and tools to cook, to store things, and to hold cuisine or water as dishes.
As time passed, the technique became mature. Different kinds of pottery appeared in different times and regions. Yangshao Culture, 5,000-7,000 years ago to today, developed a technique for painted ceramic wares (陶器). Qujialing Culture and Longshan Culture, about 4,000 years ago, were known for their black ceramic wares. During the Shang Dynasty (16th - 11th century BC) bronze containers grew into a status symbol; common people, though, sill used traditional clay ceramic wares. From the Warring States Period through the Han Dynasty, the art and culture of pottery boomed. The Terra Cotta Warrior (兵马俑), discovered in Xi’an, are the finest representatives of artworks of that time.
A representative example of pottery is the tricolor glazed (上过釉的) pottery of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), known as Tangsancai in Chinese. The pottery appeared to be light yellow, reddish brown, or light green but the most popular were yellow, brown and green. The sculpture of figures, animals or daily appliances was amazingly combined with the characteristics of Tang art—graceful and lively. Preferred by many foreigners to the region, such pottery had been transported worldwide.
Another choice pottery that won great reputation for hundreds of years is purple clay pottery. It is well-known for its mild color, concentrated structure, high intensity and fine particles (微粒). As early as the Song Dynasty (960-1279), people found purple-clay teapots to look much more graceful than those of other materials. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, tea developed as a simple and tasteful art. Modem people still take delight in this classic fashion artwork.

A.To add more to farm took. B.To mart private properties.

Fourteen-year-old Harini Logan won the Scripps National Spelling Bee last Thursday, defeating 12-year-old Vikram Raju in a tie-breaker. It’s the first time the contest has ever been decided by a tie-breaking round of spelling.
A spelling bee is a contest where players take turns spelling words. Players who spell a word wrong are out of the contest. As the contest goes on, the words get more difficult. Normally, the contest ends when there’s only one player left who hasn’t made a mistake. Though the bee is mainly about spelling, since 2021 it has changed slightly to also focus on the meaning of the words. During parts of the contest, students were asked to choose the correct meaning of a word.
That caused trouble for Harini. She was asked about the meaning of the word “pullulation”. She said the word described the nesting of birds. The contest organizers had expected the answer the “swarming of bees”. Harini was removed from the contest. But soon she was back in—the judges double-checked and learned that Harini’s definition was also correct. One by one, the other students spelled a word wrong and got out. Finally, only Harini and Vikram were left.
The Scripps bee has been running for over 90 years. Many times it ended in a tie. As a result, the contest organizers changed the rules. They added a “spell-off” to the contest to make future ties much less likely. In the spell-off, Vikram and Harini each took turns trying to spell the words they were asked, but both made mistakes. At one point, Harini could have won by spelling the word “drimys” (a kind of plant) correctly. But she missed it.
That put the two into a super tie-breaking event, where they were each given 90 seconds to correctly spell as many words as they could. In 90 seconds, Vikram had spelled 15 words correctly. Harini had 21 correct spellings, making her the new winner.

After years of observing human nature, I have decided that two qualities make the difference between men of great achievement and men of average performance curiosity and discontent. I have never known an outstanding man who lacked either. And I have never known an average man who had both.
32. B
33. E
34. F
35. C
36. D
32. 上文“Has your mother or friend told you that you’re an ungrateful person Do you feel unable to appreciate the world or people around you Are you obsessed (着迷) with things you don’t have instead of being thankful for what you do have (你的母亲或朋友有没有告诉你你是一个不懂的感恩的人?你是否觉得无法欣赏周围的世界或人?你是否执着于你所没有的东西,而不去感激你所拥有的?)”提出了三种生活中常见的情况。下文“If so, then you will definitely need to work on being a more grateful person. (如果是这样,那么你肯定需要努力成为一个更感恩的人)”。所以选项B“你也许发现你符合其中的一种情况”,起到承上启下的作用,符合句意和逻辑要求,故选B。
33. 上文“Although such encouragement is morally meaningful, it seems still to be too abstract. So, how can you make giving thanks part of your daily routine (虽然这样的鼓励在道德上是有意义的,但似乎还是太抽象了。那么,你怎么能让表达感恩成为你日常生活的一部分呢?)”可知接下来会给我们介绍感恩的方法,所以选项E “有一些小贴士可以帮助你练习感恩”承接了上文,故选E。
34. 根据上文“Stopping playing the victim is the first step you’re supposed to take. (拒绝扮演受害者是你应该采取的第一步)”以及下文“If you want to be grateful, stop complaining to the world, your teachers, your friends and your family about not putting themselves in your shoes, and focus on how much they’ve helped and cared about you. (如果你想感恩,就不要向世界、你的老师、你的朋友和你的家人抱怨他们没有设身处地为你着想,而要关注他们对你的帮助和关心)”可知,选项F“不懂得感恩的人总是把问题归咎于世界,把所有的过错都归咎于别人”在句意和逻辑上起到衔接上下文的作用。故选F。
35. 上文“Volunteering in your community is another effective way to show how grateful you are for what the world has given you. Whether you’re helping clean up a local park, working in a soup kitchen, or teaching children or adults in your community to learn to read, your viewpoints on life will change positively. (在你的社区里做志愿者是另一种有效的方式来表达你对世界给予你的一切的感激之情。无论你是在帮助清理当地的公园,在厨房里工作,还是教社区里的孩子或成年人学习阅读,你的人生观都会发生积极的变化)”,选项C“渐渐地,你会更加感激回报社会的机会”承接上文,表示上文行为的结果,也对应本段主题,通过做志愿者可以让你学会感恩,故选C。
36. 此句是本段主题句。根据下文“You can help a neighbor look for a lost dog. You can also help an old lady carry her groceries. You don’t have to search for these opportunities purposefully. Sometimes they will present themselves. (你可以帮邻居找一只丢失的狗。你也可以帮一位老太太搬运食品杂货。你不必刻意寻找这些机会。有时他们自己就会出现) ”可知,帮助别人并不是有目的寻找机会,帮助别人应该是做一些碰到的事情,能帮就要帮的事。所以选项D“做一个善举也是一个练习感恩的好方法”,能概括本段主题,再对比前两段主题句,选项D在句式上也符合要求,故选D。

二、阅读单选(本大题共4小题)
When asked why he or she wears clothes, some people will probably answer “to keep warm and to cover my body”. These are the basic reasons why clothes are worn, but people also want to look attractive and appear successful to others.
If people only wore clothes for warmth and to cover their bodies, most clothes would be simple and cheap. In most Western countries, however, clothes are sometimes very expensive. The main reason for this is not the cost of the cloth or the cost of making the clothes. The clothes are expensive because of fashion.
Successful businessmen, for example, often wear very expensive suits, shirts and ties. Sometimes they pay thousands of dollars for a suit and hundreds of dollars for a tie. It’s just a suit and a tie but they pay these prices because of the famous name of the designer. A suit costing much less would be just as warm and would cover the wearer’s body just as well.
Fashion is always changing, which means those who want to be fashionable have to buy new clothes every few months, even if last month’s clothes have only been worn once or twice. Some people have wardrobes full of clothes that have hardly been worn but are no longer in fashion. Being fashionable, therefore, can be a very expensive pastime!

Food serves as a form of communication in two fundamental ways.Sharing bread or other foods is a common human tradition that can promote unity and trust.Food can also have a specific meaning, and play a significant role in a family or culture’s celebrations or traditions. The foods we eat—and when and how we eat them—are often unique to a particular culture or may even differ between rural and urban areas within one country.
Sharing bread, whether during a special occasion(时刻) or at the family dinner table,is a common symbol of togetherness. Many cultures also celebrate birthdays and marriages with cakes that are cut and shared among the guests.Early forms of cake were simply a kind of bread,so this tradition has its roots in the custom of sharing bread.
Food also plays an important role in many New Year celebrations. In the southern United States, pieces of corn bread represent blocks of gold for prosperity(兴旺) in the New Year.In Greece, people share a special cake called vasilopita.A coin is put into the cake, which signifies(预示) success in the New Year for the person who receives it.
Many cultures have ceremonies to celebrate the birth of a child, and food can play a significant role.In China, when a baby is one month old, families name and welcome their child in a celebration that includes giving red-colored eggs to guests. In many cultures, round foods such as grapes, bread, and moon cakes are eaten at welcome celebrations to represent family unity.

A lot of businesses are started by people who have hobbies or special talents and want to turn these interests into a business. But switching from a hobby to a real business requires business know-how and investments, which stops many people. However,an increasing number of ambitious business owners have found a way to take a first step. They are taking their dreams and talents on the road—in vans and lorries, and even horse trucks.
Beginning on a small scale has its advantages, the most important of which is the relatively modest size of start-up costs. These costs, which consist primarily of,the vehicle and any required equipment, usually come to about only £ 5,000-£ 10,000.With such tightly controlled costs, mobile businesses often break even in a year or two; in contrast, success comes to brick-and-mortar businesses much more slowly, and they often fail within the first two years. In short, mobile businesses are relatively low-risk.
The first entrepreneurs(企业家) to do this have been in the food business. The mobile food vendor trend in the US and Europe has spread to other parts of the globe. The success of these street food vans has inspired other entrepreneurs to consider starting out on wheels.
UK entrepreneurs could take inspiration from the US where, today, there are vehicles that sell flowers, shoes, clothes and all kinds of specialty food items. There are also mobile businesses that provide services, such as hair styling, pet grooming and repair of high-tech devices.Mobile retail is not without problems, however.Weather, the increasing price of fuel, and just finding a place to set up are all challenges that mobile entrepreneurs have to deal with. These business owners, however, feel the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. In the US,the mobile food business alone generates an average annual revenue of $857 million.
Once convinced that their business has achieved enough success, some successful mobile entrepreneurs move on to a brick-and-mortar business.Others are satisfied to stay mobile. As stand-alone businesses or as extensions of shops, mobile retail has huge future potential in these economic times.

A
As a young boy,I knew what people said was not always what they meant or were feeling. And I knew it was possible to get others to do what I wanted if I read their real feelings and responded suitably to their needs. At the age of eleven,I sold sponge rubber(海绵橡胶) door-to-door after school and quickly worked out how to tell if someone was likely to buy from me.When I knocked on a door,if someone told me to go away but their hands were open and they showed their palms,I knew it was safe to continue with my show because they weren’t angry or threatening although they may have a cold attitude. If someone told me to go away in a soft voice but used a pointed finger or closed hand,I knew it was time to leave.
As a teenager,I became a pots and pans(锅碗瓢盆) salesperson, and my ability to read people earned me enough money to buy my first house.Selling gave me the chance to meet people and study them close and to know whether they would buy or not, simply by watching their body language.
I joined the life insurance business at the age of twenty. And I went on to break several sales records for my company, becoming the youngest person to sell over a million dollars’ worth of business in my first year.I was lucky that the skills I’d learned as a boy in watching body language while selling pots and pans could be used in this new area, and were directly related to the success I could have in any business closely connected with people.

A.Listening to customers.
B.Arguing with customers.
C.Studying customers’ words.
D.Reading customers’ body language.
19.How does the text mainly develop

B.By following the order of time.
C.By giving examples.
D.By giving reasons.

A.Curious Minds Never Feel Contented
B.Reflections on Human Nature

After decades of exploring the moon, a dramatic vision is finally becoming reality. The Guardian recently reported that a project called Lunar Codex is planning to send and store over 30,000 works on the moon from artists, writers, filmmakers, and musicians from over 150 countries and regions. The goods to be stored range from novels and paintings to music, films, and even soil from Earth.
In fact, this is not the first time that people have tried sending human legacies (遗产) to outer space. In 1969, the Apollo 12 mission carried a ceramic piece with drawings. In 1971, the Apollo 15 staff left a sculpture to honor those who had died in space exploration. What’s more famous is the Golden Record carried by spacecraft Voyager 1 and 2 from NASA in 1977, which contains human language, music and images. For example, a piece of Chinese guqin music, called Flowing Streams was included in it.
Although we don’t know who determines which symbols of human legacy get sent out to space in most projects, it’s obvious that the criteria keep changing. In the past, space heritage products only focused on space-related works; but gradually, more human-related contemporary goods which held great importance in their respective eras have been added to the list. In the Lunar Codex, films, diverse art and literary works produced by women, disabled artists, and even AI have been collected for the first time to be sent to the moon.
These changing criteria also leave space for ordinary people to imagine and think. Many people are now trying to store their DNA information digitally. Will people be able to find even more surprising and inventive ways to preserve their legacy in the future Only time can tell.
24.What is the goal of the project
A.To make the moon livable. B.To show respect to artists.
C.To enrich the life of astronauts. D.To preserve human legacies.
25.How is Paragraph 2 mainly developed
A.By explaining reasons. B.By giving examples.
C.By making comparisons D.By analyzing previous data.
26.What does the change of the criteria reflect
A.AI technology is amazing. B.The selective rules are strict.
C.Human civilization is inclusive. D.Space-related works are popular.
27.Where does the text most probably come from
A.A magazine. B.A textbook. C.An advertisement. D.A poster.
Sometimes people call each other“scared cat”. But have you ever thought about this expression When a cat is frightened, its heart starts beating faster, its muscles get tense and there are changes in the chemicals in its bloodstream.Although the cat doesn't realize this, its body is getting ready for action. If the danger continues, the animal will do one of two things. It will protect itself, or it will run away as fast as it can.
Something like this also happens to people. When we are excited, angry or scared by other feelings, our bodies go through many physical changes. Our hearts beat faster, and our muscles get tense. All of these changes make us more alert and ready to react. We, too, get ready to defend ourselves or run.
Human beings, however, have a problem that animals never face.If we give way to our feelings and let them take over, we can get into trouble.Have you ever said something in anger or hit somebody and regretted it later Have you ever shouted at a teacher, told somebody you were lonely, or said you were in love, and then wished later you had kept your mouth shut?It isn't always clever to express your feelings freely.
Does this mean that it's smarter to always hide our feelings? No!If you keep feelings of anger, sadness hidden away or bottled up inside, your body stays tense.Physical illness can develop, and you can feel disturbed badly inside. It can actually be bad for your health. It isn't good to keep pleasant feelings inside either; all feelings need to be expressed.
Feelings that you keep all bottled up inside don't just go away. It's as if you bought some bananas and put them in a cupboard. You might not be able to see them, but before long you'd smell them. And if you opened the cupboard, chances are that you'd see little fruit flies flying all over them. They are bad.
You can try to treat feelings as if they were bananas in the cupboard. You can hide them and you can pretend they don't exist, but they'll still be around. And at last you'll have to deal with them, just like those bananas.
28.When people and animals are aroused by fear, .
A.they may get ready to attack or run away
B.their muscles get neither tense nor relaxed
C.their hearts beat either faster or slower
D.they feel very regretful immediately
29.Why do human beings get into trouble according to the passage
A.They are usually not as alert as animals.
B.They always do something wrong to other people.
C.They sometimes can't control their feelings.
D.They don't pay attention to their physical changes.
30.What can we infer from the passage
A.Feelings will gradually disappear when you hold them in.
B.Bananas stay fresh longer when they are in a cupboard.
C.Holding in your feelings may lead to unpleasant results.
D.It's good for your health to keep pleasant feelings inside.
31.What is the purpose of this passage
A.To tell us that people's feelings are like bananas in a cupboard.
B.To give us some advice on how to express our feelings.
C.To prove that it isn't always wise to express our feelings freely.
D.To help us deal with feelings in a wise and proper way.

Whether you’re helping clean up a local park, working in a soup kitchen, or teaching children or adults in your community to learn to read, your viewpoints on life will change positively.19.

A. disappear消失;B. collapse 坍塌 崩溃;C. freeze 冷冻;D. rise 升起。
A. interpreted 理解 演绎;B. responded 反应;C. invented 发明;D. applied 申请 运用。 故选A。
A. special特别的;B. inferior下等的;C. standard标准的;D. loose 宽松的。根据前面第二句“eager crowds were packed on wooden benches in poor buildings”可知当时的观影条件相当恶劣,应该选择能表示负面环境情况的选项,因此排除A、C和D。故选B。
A. coverage覆盖;B. use 使用;C. benefit 益处;D. responsibility 责任。 故选A。

A. luxury奢侈 ,享受;B. expense 费用 ;C. convenience 方便;D. information 信息。 故选A。
A. prove 证明;B. buy 买相信;C. investigate 调查;D. convey 传达。

A. walls of ear耳壁;B. seeing is believing 眼见为实;C. word of mouth 口碑;D. grave of teeth 牙齿的坟墓。 People rely much no friends’ advice in choosing films,可知人们会根据朋友建议来选择观看的电影,因此电影院必须做好宣传,让电影有好的口碑,以此来吸引更多的观众走人电影院。故选C。
A. drives out 驱逐 淘汰;B. wears out 磨损 筋疲力尽;C. pays off 还清 回报;D. dies away (声音)变弱 逐渐消失。根据Talk first degrades to whisper ,可知本句在描述声音由大变小的过程,故选D。
A. company陪伴, 伴随;B. introduction 介绍;C. benefit 益处;D. end 结束 尽头。 故选A。
A. imitate模仿;B. guide 引导;C. exploit开采;D. replace 取代。根据本段第一句the cinema is learning from the theatre可知电影院只不过是在学习模仿剧院,故选A。
A. refer to谈及 涉及;B. compare with 与……相比;C. suffer from 遭受;D. persist in 坚持。

After years of observing human nature, I have decided that two qualities make the difference between men of great achievement and men of average performance curiosity and discontent. I have never known an outstanding man who lacked either. And I have never known an average man who had both. The two belong together.
Like Galileo, all the great names in history were curious and asked in discontent, “Why Why Why ”(像伽利略一样,历史上所有的伟人都感到好奇,并不满地问:“为什么?为什么?为什么?”) 可推断,伽利略的例子告诉我们,伟大来自于持久的探索欲望。故选D。
22.细节理解题。根据第二段中的Like Galileo, all the great names in history were curious and asked in discontent, “Why Why Why ”(像伽利略一样,历史上所有的伟人都感到好奇,并不满地问:“为什么?为什么?为什么?”) ;以及第四段中的“The great man,” said Mencius (孟子), “is he who does not lose his child's heart.” Yet most of us do lose it. We stop asking questions. We stop challenging custom. We just follow the crowd.(孟子认为“不失去孩子的心,就是伟大的人。”
After years of observing human nature, I have decided that two qualities make the difference between men of great achievement and men of average performance curiosity and discontent. I have never known an outstanding man who lacked either. And I have never known an average man who had both. The two belong together. 所以“The Keys to Achievement(成就的关键)”作为文章标题最为合适。故选C。

In the Lunar Codex, films, diverse art and literary works produced by women, disabled artists, and even AI have been collected for the first time to be sent to the moon.(虽然我们不知道在大多数项目中是谁决定将哪些人类遗产的象征送入太空,但很明显,标准在不断变化。
根据文章第一段“The Guardian recently reported that a project called Lunar Codex is planning to send and store over 30,000 works on the moon from artists, writers, filmmakers, and musicians from over 150 countries and regions. The goods to be stored range from novels and paintings to music, films, and even soil from Earth.(《卫报》最近报道称,一个名为“月球法典”的项目计划将来自150多个国家和地区的艺术家、作家、电影制作人和音乐家的3万多件作品发送并储存在月球上。储存的物品从小说、绘画到音乐、电影,甚至是地球上的土壤。)”以及文章其他段落的内容可知,文章主要内容与月球探索有关,所以文章有可能出自一本与月球探索有关的杂志。故选A项。

32. B
33. E
34. F
35. C
36. D

Today’s cinema has improved a great deal in presentation. Gone are the golden days when eager crowds were packed on wooden benches in poor buildings, which seemed to be about to 1 in the next minute. Audience were staring, with great interest, at the funny and amusing movements of silent figures on the screen. It was only through the body movements and facial expressions that the character’s feelings could be 2 to the audience. However, film goers all the same turned a blind eye to the 3 cinema surroundings and seemed crazy about almost all the films. Box office hits were a normal thing and stories about movie stars took full 4 of the newspapers. They were 5 with almost all positive wordings compared with today’s pitiful stars who are all the time alert to such news as divorces or affairs.
Nowadays, it is quite easy to find a cinema that exceeds the hotel luxury. Cinemas are spacious, well-lit places where one can kill time in comfort. Small favors offered by modern cinemas such as the well-printed booklets, which are 6 available, the mouth-watering snacks on sale and even the gifts are all sending the implied message to the audience that the film to watch will provide the equivalent 7 .

C.To prove that it isn't always wise to express our feelings freely.
D.To help us deal with feelings in a wise and proper way.
Nobody laughed when the UK comedy show Little Britain toured the US. Americans didn’t find the “British stereotypes (刻板印象)” funny. One character was a woman who was sick whenever she saw a foreigner. Another was a loud and rude 15-year-old girl cursing (咒骂) her teachers. But back home, British people were roaring, thinking, “Yes! That’s exactly what we’re like!”
A laugh is a laugh in any language, but the reasons for it can be very different. Britons and Americans speak the same language, but humor does not always translate. Take The Office as an example. This was originally a UK TV series but it was changed for the US. Both the US and UK series are set in a boring workplace in a boring town. But David Brent, the boss of the UK office, is not a nice guy like Michael Scott in the US version. “We had to make Michael Scott a slightly nicer guy,” wrote series creator Ricky Gervais. “He couldn’t be too mean.”
Gervais said British people are different from Americans because Britons cruelly make fun of people they like or dislike... and of themselves. He believes the differences between the American and British senses of humor are because of “our upbringing”. “Americans are brought up to believe they can be the next president of the United States,” he wrote. “Britons are told,’ It won’t happen to you’.”
Things usually turn out fine at the end of every American The Office episode (集). Even if they’re not perfect, the characters “learn a lesson” for the future. But in David Brent’s office — and in lots of UK comedies — the last scene is often sad. You are often left with the feeling that things just couldn’t get worse. For British people, this seems true to life and so much funnier. It’s not just Britain and the US that have comic differences. Few foreigners would understand a Chinese cross-talk show for example.
Cultural differences are no laughing matter. But comic differences can be a window into a culture.
20.What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A.To show that British humor is not funny at all.
B.To show that American people don’t understand British people.
C.To show that Britain and America have different stereotypes.
D.To show that humor may mean different things in different cultures.
21.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the article
A.David Brent is quite a nice guy.
B.Michael Scott is a rather mean guy.
C.Episodes in the US version often end in a boring way.
D.Episodes in the UK version often end with a hopeless note.
22.Why was Michael Scott from the US version of The Office made “slightly nicer” than the UK version’s David Brent
A.To make the character more acceptable to American viewers.
B.To agree with the American workplace environment.
C.Because Ricky Gervais believes people are kind by nature.
D.Due to the requirement for a more gentle sense of humor in American comedies.
23.What can we infer from the article
A.Britons do not like to make fun of others.
B.British comedy often has a moral message.
C.American people are brought up to be more positive.
D.Foreigners have little difficulty in understanding the Chinese cross- talk show.
24.What is the author’s opinion of comic differences
A.They are slight differences that can be ignored.
B.They can partly show cultural differences.
C.They show stereotypes of different cultures.
D.They help people communicate with each other.
If you have ever found yourself concluding that intelligence is in short supply in the modem world, perhaps you are looking in the wrong place. There are still plenty of smarts to be found elsewhere.
You will be familiar with the cleverness of dolphins and chimpanzees. But what about wasps (黄蜂) They can recognize human faces. Or mosquitoes They can learn to avoid being killed by chemicals after a single taste.
Such an astonishing group of talent is rather unsettling, which raises fundamental questions like what actually is intelligence, how did it develop and how do the abilities of various organisms (生物) compare Evaluating intelligence in nature is tricky, particularly in life forms that are very different from us. Now a group of neuroscientists, AI researchers and philosophers want to create a periodic table of intelligence similar to the one used to categorize the chemical elements. The chemical version sorts elements by their atomic (原子的) number or atomic mass. For intelligence, researchers are still looking for a criterion that is equally straightforward. But where to begin
It certainly isn’t brain size, as was long thought. Behavior might be a better way to categorize cleverness. But testing for intelligence through behavior is difficult. Recognizing oneself in a mirror is seen as a sign of advanced cognition (认知). Dolphins and bats can do it — but dogs typically can’t. Does this reflect a lack of intelligence in dogs or perhaps something else, such as their reliance more on smell than vision. Likewise, many organisms live in environments that are obviously different from ours and so might use senses that we don’t even possess.
Nevertheless, the researchers behind the initiative think intelligence might become clearer through a combination of behavioral and neuroanatomical (神经解剖学的) features. “We’re going to ask, are there kinds of intelligence, and can we identify structural features that are organizational of those kinds of intelligence ” says Andrew Barron at Macquarie University. “If we can, then we are starting to identify things that can be thought of as possible dimensions of intelligence.”
25.Why are wasps and mosquitoes mentioned in paragraph 2
A.To make comparisons between them.
B.To prove smarts are in short supply.
C.To show there are other forms of intelligence.
D.To illustrate their similarities with humans.
26.Which fails to explain the difficulty in evaluating cleverness in nature
A.It is upsetting to see different talents in natural settings.
B.It is hard to compare the abilities of different species.
C.Life forms in the natural world are different from humans.
D.It requires us to answer some basic questions about intelligence.
27.Why is testing for intelligence through behavior challenging
A.Factors like brain size matter more.
B.Other features need to be considered.
C.Some organisms possess similar senses.
D.All animals show signs of advanced cognition.
28.What could be a possible title for the passage
A.Different Minds B.Surprising Behaviors
C.Unique Senses D.Diverse Species

A recent trend in the entertainment world is to adapt classic works of literature for either TV plays or the movies. One argument is that this is to everyone’s benefit,as it introduces people to works they might otherwise never have experienced, while others say that turning books into movies not only cheapens the original, but is rarely done successfully. So what do you think
In the past few years,we have seen several classic works of literature were adapted into movies. Many people believe that turning a novel into a film is a great idea, but some obviously think otherwise.According to the latter, translating classic works into movies destroys its originality and credibility. In my opinion, literary works can get translated into the screens effectively.
The main challenge that filmmakers face while turning a classic work into a movie is its imaginary world.Generally, the perception(见解) of the book’s imaginary world differs from person to person. And it’s quite challenging to put all these different perceptions in one frame. But modern technology has made this challenge achievable. For example, the filmmakers used visual effects to successfully adapt “Harry Potter” movies so visually attractive that their perception of “Harry Potter” changed. Therefore, literary works can be translated into films through technical means.
Also, while making a film, the main focus of makers always remains on the main plotline and characters. But for movies based on literary works, this issue is not there as these movies carry the same basic plotline as it is present in the books. Therefore, directors do not have to spend much time and imagination on the plot of the movie, which makes the adaptation quite easy.
Based on the above arguments,I believe that it is quite possible to make a beautiful movie based on a classic work using modern technologies and a writer’s imagination.

A. disappear消失;B. collapse 坍塌 崩溃;C. freeze 冷冻;D. rise 升起。
A. interpreted 理解 演绎;B. responded 反应;C. invented 发明;D. applied 申请 运用。 故选A。
A. special特别的;B. inferior下等的;C. standard标准的;D. loose 宽松的。根据前面第二句“eager crowds were packed on wooden benches in poor buildings”可知当时的观影条件相当恶劣,应该选择能表示负面环境情况的选项,因此排除A、C和D。故选B。
A. coverage覆盖;B. use 使用;C. benefit 益处;D. responsibility 责任。 故选A。

A. luxury奢侈 ,享受;B. expense 费用 ;C. convenience 方便;D. information 信息。 故选A。
A. prove 证明;B. buy 买相信;C. investigate 调查;D. convey 传达。

A. walls of ear耳壁;B. seeing is believing 眼见为实;C. word of mouth 口碑;D. grave of teeth 牙齿的坟墓。 People rely much no friends’ advice in choosing films,可知人们会根据朋友建议来选择观看的电影,因此电影院必须做好宣传,让电影有好的口碑,以此来吸引更多的观众走人电影院。故选C。
A. drives out 驱逐 淘汰;B. wears out 磨损 筋疲力尽;C. pays off 还清 回报;D. dies away (声音)变弱 逐渐消失。根据Talk first degrades to whisper ,可知本句在描述声音由大变小的过程,故选D。
A. company陪伴, 伴随;B. introduction 介绍;C. benefit 益处;D. end 结束 尽头。 故选A。

【答案】20.D 21.D 22.A 23.C 24.B
根据第一段“Nobody laughed when the UK comedy show Little Britain toured the US. That’s exactly what we’re like!” (当英国喜剧《小不列颠》在美国巡演时,没有人笑。美国人并不觉得“英国人的刻板印象”有趣。其中一个角色是一个女人,她一见到外国人就恶心。另一个是一个大声、粗鲁的15岁女孩在咒骂她的老师。但在英国国内,英国人却在欢呼,心想:“太棒了!我们就是这样的人!”)”可知,第一段的目的是说明在不同的文化中,幽默可能意味着不同的东西。故选D。
21.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“But in David Brent’s office — and in lots of UK comedies — the last scene is often sad. (但在大卫·布伦特的办公室里——以及许多英国喜剧里——最后一幕往往是悲伤的。)”可知,英国版的剧集往往以令人绝望的音符结尾。故选D。
22.推理判断题。根据文章第二段中的“But David Brent, the boss of the UK office, is not a nice guy like Michael Scott in the US version. “We had to make Michael Scott a slightly nicer guy,” wrote series creator Ricky Gervais. “He couldn’t be too mean.” (但英国办事处的老板大卫·布伦特不像美国版的迈克尔·斯科特那样是个好人。“我们必须把迈克尔·斯科特塑造得稍微好一点,”该剧主创瑞奇·热维斯写道。“他不可能太刻薄。”)”和第三段“Gervais said British people are different from Americans because Britons cruelly make fun of people they like or dislike... and of themselves. He believes the differences between the American and British senses of humor are because of “our upbringing”. “Americans are brought up to believe they can be the next president of the United States,” he wrote. “Britons are told,’ It won’t happen to you’.” (热维斯说,英国人和美国人不同,因为英国人会残忍地取笑他们喜欢或不喜欢的人……还有他们自己。他认为,美国人和英国人幽默感的差异是由“教养”造成的。“美国人从小就相信他们可以成为美国的下一任总统,”他写道。“英国人被告知,‘这不会发生在你身上’。”)”可知,美国版的迈克尔·斯科特比英国版的大卫·布伦特稍微好一点,是因为要让这个角色更容易被美国观众接受。故选A。
根据第三段中““Americans are brought up to believe they can be the next president of the United States,” he wrote. (“美国人从小就相信他们可以成为美国的下一任总统,”他写道。)”可知,美国人从小被教育要积极乐观。故选C项。
24.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“But comic differences can be a window into a culture. (但喜剧差异可以成为了解一种文化的窗口。)”可推知,作者认为喜剧差异在一定程度上展示了文化差异。故选B项。
【知识点】主旨大意、推理判断、文化、细节理解、自然生态、说明文
【答案】
25.C
26.A
27.B
28.A
根据文章第二段“(You will be familiar with the cleverness of dolphins and chimpanzees. But what about wasps (黄蜂) They can recognize human faces. Or mosquitoes They can learn to avoid being killed by chemicals after a single taste.(你会熟悉海豚和黑猩猩的聪明。但是黄蜂呢?它们能认出人脸。或者蚊子呢?它们可以学会在一次品尝后避免被化学物质杀死)”可推知,这里提到黄蜂和蚊子是为了表明除人类以外还具有其他形式的智慧。故选C项。
26.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Such an astonishing group of talent is rather unsettling, which raises fundamental questions like what actually is intelligence, how did it develop and how do the abilities of various organisms (生物) compare Evaluating intelligence in nature is tricky, particularly in life forms that are very different from us.(如此惊人的智力群体相当令人不安,这引发了一些基本问题,比如智力到底是什么,它是如何发展的,以及各种生物体的能力是如何比较的?评估自然界中的智力是很棘手的,尤其是在与我们截然不同的生命形式中)”可知,导致难以评估自然界智力水平的因素有:我们很难回答一些关于智力的基本问题,我们很难比较不同生物体的能力,以及自然界中的生命形式和人类不一样。A选项“在自然环境中看到不同的天赋是令人沮丧的”不是原因。故选A项。
根据文章第四段“But testing for intelligence through behavior is difficult. Recognizing oneself in a mirror is seen as a sign of advanced cognition (认知). Dolphins and bats can do it — but dogs typically can’t. Does this reflect a lack of intelligence in dogs or perhaps something else, such as their reliance more on smell than vision. Likewise, many organisms live in environments that are obviously different from ours and so might use senses that we don’t even possess.(但通过行为测试智力是很困难的。在镜子里认出自己被视为高级认知的标志。海豚和蝙蝠可以做到,但狗通常做不到。这是否反映了狗缺乏智力,或者可能是其他原因,比如它们更多地依赖嗅觉而不是视觉。同样,许多生物体生活在与我们明显不同的环境中,因此可能会使用我们甚至不具备的感官)”可推知,通过行为测试智力是具有挑战性的,因为还需要考虑其他特性。故选B项。
28.主旨大意题。结合全文及文章第一段“If you have ever found yourself concluding that intelligence is in short supply in the modem world, perhaps you are looking in the wrong place. There are still plenty of smarts to be found elsewhere.(如果你曾经发现自己得出结论认为现代世界智力短缺,也许你看错了地方。在其他地方仍然有很多聪明之处)”可知,文章主要讲的是自然界中存在很多除人类以外的其他形式的智慧。由此可知,A项“不同的智力”适合作本文标题。故选A项。

33.G
34.F
35.A
36.E
37.D
【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了体验一种新的文化的好处;
33.上文“Often the best way to really explore a new place and culture is by spending abundant time there. A quick vacation may give you a glimpse(警) into your destination. (通常,真正探索一个新的地方和文化的最好方法是在那里度过大量的时间。短暂度假可以让你对目的地有个初步了解。)”提出探索一个新的地方和文化的最好方法是在那里度过大量的时间,短暂度假只能让你对目的地有个初步了解,G项“But experiences like student or work exchange programs allow you to immerse(沉浸) in a new culture(但是像学生或工作交换项目这样的经历可以让你沉浸在一种新的文化中。)”给出两种能让人沉浸在一种新的文化中的方式:学生或工作交换项目,与上文中“A quick vacation”构成转折关系,上下文语意连贯。故选G;
34.上文“Culture shock is a response to your new surroundings when abroad that can leave you confused, anxious and feeling lonely. It generally includes frustration at how even the simplest things can be different in the new culture. The thing is though, culture shock can be seen as a problem but also as an opportunity. (文化冲击是你在国外对新环境的一种反应,它会让你困惑、焦虑和感到孤独。它通常包括对新文化中即使是最简单的事情也会有所不同的挫败感。问题是,文化冲击既可以被视为一个问题,也可以被视为一个机会。)”介绍了什么是文化冲击,结合段首标题“Dealing with culture shock(应对文化冲击)”可知本段最终要说明如果应对文化冲击,F项“Only by adjusting to and accepting new surroundings can you understand and appreciate it (只有适应和接受新的环境,你才能理解和欣赏它。)”给出应对文化冲击的办法“by adjusting to and accepting new surroundings”,照应主题。故选F;
35.这里为本段小标题。根据下文“Perhaps the most obvious lesson learned with travel is the importance of language. Even just learning the basics of the local language can make getting about and making new friends easier. Trying to overcome the language barrier also teaches you about non-verbal communication. Since you can’t rely on what is being said, you learn to adapt, to people’s tone and body language. This makes you a better communicator. (也许从旅行中学到的最明显的教训就是语言的重要性。即使只是学习当地语言的基本知识也能让你更容易走动和结交新朋友。努力克服语言障碍还能教会你非语言交流。因为你不能依赖别人说的话,你要学会适应别人的语气和肢体语言。这会让你成为一个更好的沟通者。)”可知,本段主要介绍语言对体验新文化的重要性。所以A项“Learning language skills (学习语言技能)”是最佳主题句。故选A;
36.根据后文“In each of these creative fields you may come across new approaches or elements that you bring home with you; maybe it’s a certain combination of ingredients that you add to your cooking or a new style you adopt for your own home’s design. (在这些创造性的领域中,你可能会遇到新的方法或元素,你带回家;也许是你在烹饪中添加的某种食材组合,或者是你为自己的家庭设计采用的一种新风格。)”可知,本段介绍通过当地的艺术、美食、建筑等方面来体验新的文化。所以E项“Experiencing the local culture can expose you to local art, cuisine, architecture, etc. (体验当地文化可以让你接触到当地的艺术、美食、建筑等。)”符合上下文语境。故选E;
37.根据前句“Meeting people and making friends while overseas is both a necessity and one of the most enjoyable aspects of the experience. (在海外结识朋友是必要的,也是最令人愉快的经历之一。)”和后半句“which enables you to meet people that you never would have known otherwise. (它能让你认识一些你以前永远不会认识的人。)”可知,通过社交,结交朋友是体验新文化的好方法。所以D项“Travelling to new cultures is a great way to expand your social circle (到新的文化中旅行是扩大你的社交圈的好方法,)”符合上下文语境。故选D。
