Would you eat less junk food if it costs a little bit more Starting on July 1, the Navajo Nation will charge a 2% tax (税) on junk food sold on its reservation (居留地)—the first tax of its kind in America. The change is part of the Healthy Diné Nation Act, which the tribe’s president Ben Shelly approved last November. The law will also eliminate the current 5% sales tax on healthy food from fresh fruits and vegetables.
Denisa Livingston from the Diné Community Advocacy Alliance, a group that helped pass this law, hopes to make people in the community more aware of their food choices. “This is a friendly awareness tax,” she said.
In a press release, Livingston said that by the law, they wanted to improve the health of its population, which inhabits a 27,000 square mile reservation from Arizona and New Mexico to Utah.
Approximately 24,600 Navajo tribe members face obesity, according to the Navajo Area Indian Health Service. Type 2 diabetes has emerged as a growing public health concern affecting up to 60% of reservation residents in some areas.
Livingston says that the Navajo Nation’s status (身份) as a food desert contributes to the health problems the people face. A food desert is an area where fresh, healthy food is expensive and hard to find. Food deserts are especially common in low income communities, such as the Navajo Nation, where 38% of the population lives at the poverty level.
The money that the government collects from junk food taxes will be put towards projects that encourage people to eat healthy food from community vegetable gardens, greenhouses, and farmers’ markets. “This is going to open the door to more opportunities and conversations and ideas about how we move to a food oasis (绿洲) where everyone has access to healthy food,” Livingston said. “Whether you’re deep in the reservation or the neighboring towns, healthy food is available for you.”

D.Because most of the people have a poor life.
20.What message can we find in the last paragraph

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are compounds (化合物) that are set to solve some tough challenges: producing water in the desert, removing greenhouse gases from the air and storing dangerous gases more safely.
The desert in Arizona is really dry.Anyone stuck in it without water would die from dehydration (脱水) within three days unless he had one of Omar Yaghi's next generation water harvesters.Yaghi is a chemist at the University of California, Berkeley.Although daytime humidity is only about 10 percent, this rises to 40 percent at night, which means there's enough water in the atmosphere to support life—if it can be transformed into the liquid form.
That's exactly what Yaghi's invention does. It's about the size of a small microwave oven, designed to suck water from the air at night and turn it into drinking water the next day using only the heat of the sun as its power source. What makes it work is a special material called an MOF, which at normal temperatures attracts water molecules (分子) onto the surface of its internal small holes.Warm it up and you can get the water, and each harvest produces one third of a cup of pure drinking water.“A device about the size of a washing machine could produce enough water for the basic needs of a household,” says Yaghi.
These crystalline (结晶的) groups of metals linked by organic molecules can be made into materials with an extremely high absorption ability, attracting specific molecules to their surfaces. In this way, MOFs cling__to a variety of liquids and gases.
MOFs work thanks to their distinctive structures. In fact, one MOF about the size of a sugar cube has so many small holes that they would cover an area as large as six football fields.MOFs are also extremely stable, light and have many different uses: Their molecular structures can be varied to attract specific molecules.Adding a small amount of heat or pressure causes the MOF to give what it's holding.More than 70,000 different MOFs have been produced for various applications.
21.Why is the desert in Arizona mentioned in the second paragraph
A.To introduce water harvesters.
B.To stress the importance of water.

The tea that has delighted and fascinated the world for thousands of years has finally received top-level global recognition as a shared cultural treasure of mankind. China’s traditional tea-making was added on Tuesday to the intangible cultural heritage list of UNESCO.
The traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China consist of knowledge, skills and practices concerning the management of tea plantations, picking of tea leaves, manual (手工的) processing, drinking and sharing of tea. Since ancient times, Chinese people have been planting, picking, making and drinking tea. Tea producers have developed six categories of tea: green, yellow, dark, white, oolong and black teas. Together with reprocessed teas, such as flower-scented teas, there are over 2, 000 tea products in China.
Tea-related customs are not only found across the country, but also influence the rest of the world through the ancient Silk Road and trade routes. Tea is ubiquitous in Chinese people’s daily life, as steeped (浸泡) or boiled tea is served in families, workplaces, tea houses, restaurants and temples, etc. It is also an important part of socialization and ceremonies such as weddings and sacrifices. The practice of greeting guests and building relationships within families and among neighbors through tea-related activities is common to multiple ethnic groups, providing a sense of shared identity and continuity for the communities.
In China, 44 registered national-level intangible cultural heritage entries are related to tea. There are over 40 vocational colleges and 80 universities that have set up majors in tea science or tea culture, resulting in over 3, 000 graduates specializing in tea production and art every year, according to the ministry.
China now has 43 items on the intangible cultural heritage list, continuing to be the most enlisted country in the world.
25. What can be learnt from the passage

C.More than 2, 000 tea products could be found in China.
D.There’re about 300 graduates specializing in tea production every year.

二、阅读单选(本大题共4小题)
Despite many public health campaigns to highlight various problems with sugary drinks, we drink them a lot. But, not everyone consumes them. Two new studies shed light on the fact that some of us easily fall victim to the harms of sugary drinks than others.
Though sugary drinks are everywhere, some people find them harder to resist and the first study, conducted by professor Joshua McGreen at Flinders University, sought to understand why. For the research, 128 young adults of 17 to 25 completed a computer test evaluating their attitudes about soft drinks, measured against their soft drink consumption. The study showed that the more unconscious positive judgments individuals had of soft drink advertising, the more soft drink they consumed. It also found that a lack of inhibitory control, which is the cognitive process that allows us to control our desires — say, to buy a nice-tasting soft drink even though we know it’s unhealthy — was also a factor in increased consumption.
A second study provides clues about who is more easily influenced by the marketing strategies. The study found that soft drink companies, like Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, have multi-billion dollar advertising and marketing budgets aimed to “create, maintain and increase consumer demand around benefits related to happiness, social status etc.”. These campaigns are “increasingly being directed at disadvantaged groups”, including children and adolescents generally, and people living in disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Soft drinks, even “zero-sugar” ones, are typically high in calories, but of little nutritional benefit. Placing a tax on sweet drinks may be one strategy to reduce people’s consumption. McGreen also suggests that people develop strong self-control of soft drink consumption. It’s something he wants to research further. He adds, “I would also like to ban advertisements for soft drinks for sports or programs that appeal to children. It is specially important for sports people to stop being walking billboards for junk food and drinks.”;
16.What do the two new studies focus on
A.The harm of sugary drinks. B.The popularity of sugary drinks.
C.The consumers of sugary drinks. D.The profit made by sugary drinks.;
17.Who are most likely to buy sugary drinks according to McGreen
A.Those who have a good spending habit.
B.Those who can control their desires well.
C.Those who have a good impression of soft drinks.
D.Those who have no interest in soft drink advertising.;
18.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.The warning against the consumption of soft drinks.
B.Suggestions on reducing the consumption of soft drinks.
C.The importance of sports stars in advertising soft drinks.
D.Plans to research into self-control of soft drink consumption.;
19.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear
A.Entertainment. B.Health. C.Education. D.Sports.
It's believed that after a poor night's sleep, a strong coffee is the kick-start that many people need in the morning, but a new research suggests that it might be best to have a bite to eat first.
A study has found that drinking coffee first can have a negative effect on blood sugar control a risk factor for diabetes (糖尿病)and heart disease.
“We know that nearly half of us will wake in the morning and, before doing anything else, drink coffee—subjectively the more tired we feel, the stronger the coffee,” said Professor James Betts, at the University of Bath in the UK.
For their study, researchers at the University of Bath got 29 healthy men and women to take part in three different overnight experiments, with at least a week between them.
In one, the participants had a normal night's sleep, roughly from 11 p. m. to 7 a. m. , and were asked to consume a sugary drink on waking in the morning. They then experienced an interrupted night's sleep, where the researchers woke them every hour for five minutes by sending them text messages to which they had to respond—and upon waking were given the same sugary drink.
On another night, participants experienced the same sleep interruption, but this time, were first given a strong black coffee 30 minutes before consuming the sugary drink.
They found that one night of interrupted sleep did not worsen the participants' blood sugar and insulin (胰岛素)responses when compared to the normal night's sleep—although previous research suggested that losing many hours of sleep or many nights of poor sleep could have a negative effect. However, strong black coffee consumed before breakfast actually increased the blood sugar response by around 50%—suggesting that relying on coffee after a bad night to stop feeling sleepy could limit your body's ability to tolerate the sugar in your breakfast.
20.What does the underlined word "kick-start" in paragraph 1 refer to
A.A kind of drink. B.A kind of habit. C.A kind of power. D.A kind of medicine.
21.Which of the following is right according to the text
A.If we feel tired,we should choose stronger coffee
B.Drinking coffee first may cause some serious diseases.
C.It shows that having breakfast first can refresh sleepy people
D.Half of people are hard to kick the habit of drinking strong coffee.
22.What increased the participants' blood sugar response most before breakfast
A.A cup of strong black coffee. B.A normal night's sleep.
C.An interrupted night's sleep. D.A normal sugary drink.
23.How did researchers draw the conclusion
A.By listing some examples. B.By observing the process.
C.By explaining a phenomenon. D.By comparing the results.

As the world's oldest person, Kane Tanaka died at 119 at a nursing home in Japan in April 2022. She is also the first citizen of Japan to live so long, but is unlikely to be the last. The country has the world's longest life expectancy, with over 90,000 people aged 100 years old or older.
Diet helps a lot with the unusual longevity enjoyed in Japan. Japan largely banned meat for 1,200 years, and still consumes relatively little meat and dairy. Too much of these can be damaging, since they contain saturated fatty acids(饱和脂肪酸), which correlate to heart disease. Studies have also tied eating lots of processed red meat to a greater risk of stroke. But too little may be unwise as well, because they provide chemical substance that may be needed for our blood-vessel walls. In a study of 48,000 Britons, vegetarians were unusually resistant to heart disease, but likely to suffer from strokes.
In theory, a lack of animal-based food could have contributed to Japan's historical cerebrovascular(脑血管的) death rate. In 1960—2013, as the country's deaths from strokes reduced, its annual meat intake rose from near zero to 52 kg per person (45% of America's level). Tsugane Shoichiro of the National Cancer Centre in Tokyo says that his citizens may need meat and dairy to keep their blood tubes strong—though not so much that those tubes get blocked.
Some evidence supports this view . One study from the 1990s found that the parts of Japan where diets had changed most also had the biggest drops in cerebrovascular death rate. Another study, which tracked 80,000 Japanese people in 1995—2009, showed that strokes were most common among those who ate the least chops and cream. Although Japan's decline in cerebrovascular deaths could stem from other causes, these data suggest that nutritional shifts may have helped.
The true story is that Japan's health gains, paired with a low birth rate, threaten its economy. By 2060, 40% of Japanese could be 60 or older. That would produce more birthday cakes with over 100 candles—and fewer great-grandchildren to blow them out.
24.Why is Kane Tanaka mentioned
A.To provide evidence.
B.To introduce the topic.
C.To promote an idea.
D.To make a comparison.
25.What is the main idea of Paragraph 2
A.The weakness in Japanese diet.
B.The secret to Japanese longevity.
C.The diet changes in the world.
D.The effect of different diets.
26.What does the underlined phrase “this view” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A.A balanced diet is a better choice for Japanese.
B.Japanese should live on animal-based food.
C.Meat and dairy protect people from heart diseases.
D.More research on diet needs to be done.
27.How does the author sound in the last paragraph
A.Happy. B.Relieved.
C.Embarrassed. D.Concerned.
Data collected by the World Food Program shows that every year over 847 million people worldwide suffer from malnutrition and about 3.1 million children under the age of 5 die of starvation.
While dealing with world hunger is an important thing for scientists, it is not easy, considering natural resources. But thanks to new ideas like Livingbox, there may be some hope.
The Israeli scientists Nitzan Solan and Moti Cohen say Livingbox is an environment-friendly ecosystem made of some connected boxes to form a mini-farm. This means that the vegetables are grown in water instead of soil.
While professional farmers have been doing that for years, Livingbox is the first system built to gain nutrients from common waste. Better yet, it can run without electricity and requires no farming skills to keep. This means that city people who cannot get fresh vegetables can use Livingbox to grow vegetables.
It is easy for all farmers to set up the boxes. Then they fill them with fresh water and add the required seeds. As soon as they add one or all three types of waste, the system will self-produce the nitrogen needed for the plants to take root.
Those that use fish waste have a double advantage — they can cultivate both fish and vegetables at the same time. The fish can provide the waste needed for the plants to grow, while the plants naturally filter the water and help keep a clean home for the fish.
Once the vegetables are ready to pick, farmers simply harvest them and begin the cycle all over again. While the 15-square foot box provides enough vegetables for a family of four, it is easy to make a larger Livingbox in order to build larger farms.
The one thing that can prevent Livingbox from being used in developing countries is the cost. However, some businessmen with several non-profit organizations have promised to keep it affordable, so that poor people living in cities of developing countries can get the chance to eat nutritious food.
28.Why do scientists find it hard to solve world hunger
A.Because it needs a lot of money to solve the problem.
B.Because there are too many people are starving in the world.
C.Because the population grows rapidly and there are not enough resources.
D.Because most of the natural resources have been damaged.
29.What do we know about Livingbox
A.It is not harmful to the environment.
B.It is made of boxes filled with rich soil.
C.It requires electricity.
D.It requires farmers to learn some special skills.
30.Livingbox is designed to .
A.help developing countries become rich
B.get rid of the waste produced by animals
C.get clean water for people living in cities
D.let poor people living in cities get fresh vegetables
31.From the last two paragraphs, we can infer that .
A.farmers can use the boxes again
B.it will not cost much money to build Livingbox
C.Livingbox has been built by businessmen in the world
D.Livingbox has become popular in developing countries

More than any other aspect of the climate crisis, it is the over-production of carbon dioxide that has been valued. But nitrogen, and its 1 use in commercial fertilizer, also leads to air pollution and climate change. Evidence suggests their use also contributes to air pollution, increases the rates of cancer and 2 biodiversity, as well as releasing gas (laughing gas).
But nitrogen helps 3 around half the world’s population and remains essential for the foreseeable future. With prices of fertilizer rising, many developing countries don’t 4 it, with resulting threats to food security. The global nitrogen 5 involves both reducing fertilizer use, and getting it to where it’s needed most.
A team of scientists has come up with a five-step plan to solve this 6 problem. Benjamin Houlton, the leader, explains that only by undertaking a 7 approach and combining solutions can the problem be solved on both levels.
The five steps identified involve 8 agricultural practices, getting fertilizer to the places it’s needed, reducing nitrogen pollution and finally, both reducing food waste and promoting a change in diet. The 9 two are essential because approximately one-quarter of all global food produced is wasted along the 10 chain, which means that a large portion of the nitrogen fertilizer 11 to crops is ultimately wasted.
Benjamin admits that adding nitrogen to the list of existing climate woes might cause a sense of exhaustion. 12 he has an encouraging message. “The truth is, nitrogen is a blessing and a 13 ,” he says, “But if you can reduce the spill-overs of nitrogen, you can quickly get systems to return to the 14 state. That makes it very different from CO2. We lock in 30 to 50 years of climate impacts every time we send out a molecule of CO2 into the air. But with nitrogen you can get 15 returns on investment.”

A handful of small animal and human studies prove that consuming dairy products like milk and cheese before bed may help most people have a more restful night’s sleep, though the reason why remains unclear.
Most experts believe that milk promoting sleep may be related to chemical compounds, the mental effects of this relaxed bedtime habit, or both.
Most experts agree that milk’s sleep-promoting possibility is likely related to specific chemical compounds, such as tryptophan (色氨酸) and melatonin (褪黑素) in milk which may help you fall asleep. Because the role of tryptophan and melatonin in sleep disorders is well established, most experts believe taking supplements of these compounds may reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression that can crop up (突然出现) at bedtime.
However, there’s currently no evidence to suggest that a single glass of milk contains enough tryptophan or melatonin to significantly influence your body’s natural production of elements which help a person fall asleep fast or to independently treat a disordered sleeping pattern.
Some professors, such as Clinten in Boston University, draw a theory and suspect that milk’s potential role as a sleep aid has little to do with its nutritional composition and that it’s instead more closely related to the mental effect of having a calming bedtime habit.
Another theory is that drinking warm milk could subconsciously remind you of having milk at bedtime during your early childhood years. These soothing feelings may signal to your brain that it’s time to sleep, making it easier to fall asleep peacefully.
Still, there is not enough evidence to definitely prove any particular effects of developing a habit of drinking milk before bedtime, so more research is needed.
19.What can we know about the viewpoint that milk can promote sleep
A.Milk can only help animals fall asleep quickly.
B.The reason why drinking milk can promote sleep has been found.
C.Everyone can fall asleep faster by drinking milk before going to sleep.
D.The tryptophan and melatonin in milk may promote healthy sleep cycles.
20.According to the theory, Clinten thinks drinking milk before bedtime can _____.
A.release nutritional composition
B.add more anxiety and depression
C.imply oneself that you should go to bed now with ease
D.continue to develop the habit of drinking just like in your childhood
21.Who is the intended readers

Felix, a Swedish food brand, has opened a climate-conscious store that will guide buyers to make informed decisions when purchasing food items. In the newly opened store, items are priced based on their carbon footprints. To help buyers understand the impact of their choices on the environment, products in The Climate Store will be bought using CO2e currency(货币). The store has given each customer a weekly budget of 18.9kg CO2e. This means that customers will have to choose foods carefully, avoiding options with higher carbon footprints in case of blowing their budgets.
Pricing foods based on their climate impact shows the difference between plant-based foods and animal-based foods. Many of the foods that we consume are greatly contributing to the pollution of the environment. Although many people would love to make a difference by avoiding such foods, it’s not always clear which items are worse for the planet. Food production is responsible for about one-quarter of the world’s greenhouse gas emission(排放). If customers can be aware of the foods that contribute most carbon, they can make decisions that will help reduce these emissions.
“It will be exciting to see how customers react to trading with the CO2e currency and see if they manage to stay within their weekly budget,” Thomas Sj berg, marketing manager for Felix, said. “I think it will be an eye-opener for many to see how certain choices affect what they can afford to get in the same lunch bag.”
At the moment, the food industry doesn’t have a standardized approach to calculating carbon figures. The opening of The Climate Store is just one part of the brand’s long-term sustainability plan. Felix intends to bring about comprehensive features that will help its customers make informed choices when purchasing. This fall, the brand will be adding labels to all its products to indicate their impact on the environment. Felix expects such labels to help customers reduce the use of environmentally impactful products and increase the intake of plant-based products.
26. What is special about The Climate Store
A.Its labeled products. B.Its shopping guide.
C.Its wide popularity. D.Its trading currency.
27. How are food items priced in The Climate Store
A.By their categories. B.By their production costs.
C.By their real worth. D.By their environmental impact.
28. What can be inferred from Sj berg’s words in paragraph 3
A.Customers’ choices affect their lunch. B.CO2e currency is popular with customers.
C.The Climate Store has gained public recognition. D.Thomas runs The Climate Store on a tight budget.
29. What’s the purpose of opening The Climate Store
A.To promote new consuming patterns. B.To stress the benefits of plant-based items.
C.To raise people’s environmental awareness. D.To help customers make informed decisions.
三、七选五阅读(本大题共1小题)
Don’t Ruin Healthy Eating When You Travel
I’ve noticed that, as people become more conscious of how food affects their health, leaving home can sometimes present challenges for those who want to keep eating well. Here are some simple ways to eat adventurously and well while you’re enjoying the best moments of your trip:
Plan ahead. Often when we’re traveling, we’re out of our routine and aren’t eating at regular intervals. 30 Contrary to the popular myth that you should hold off eating to save room for a big meal, going for long stretches without eating actually causes your body to become tired and hang on to calories. Pack snacks for easy access: nuts, seeds, hard-boiled eggs, firm fruits.
Don’t forget the grocery store. A supermarket, especially a local one, can be your best place to get something to eat while traveling. 31 You’ll find a wider variety of great foods that are free of fat, dairy, and other common allergense (过敏素) at a reasonable cost.
Drink more water than you normally do. 32 Walking around all day expends energy and dehydrates (脱水) your body. Often people drink alcohol or sodas with meals, and these are also dehydrating. Drinking more than your usual eight glasses of water a day will keep you energized, hydrate your cells and keep your skin glowing.
Drink less alcohol than everyone around you is drinking. This can be challenging, especially on business trips, where drinking is a familiar pastime. 33
34 Let yourself have treats, and enjoy them- just keep it to once a day. Get that good piece of chocolate cake. Have an extra helping of steak fries. Order the thing with butter, and love every single bite. Then be done with the less-than-healthy food, and remember that you always have another day for that one little indulgence (放纵).
【选项】
A.Just enjoy the treats that you like.
B.Try the“one-and-done” rule.
C.Planes and hotel rooms are generally dry.
D.Sometimes we can go several hours without eating anything.
E.However, drinking too much can lead to more unhealthy eating.
F.You’ll have easy, cheap access to fresh produce and healthy snacks.
G.Planning ahead of time allows you to control what goes into your body.

Growing up on a small farm in Zimbabwe, I liked to sing the song “That sweet potato in the pot. Who should I eat it with ”. In the early 1990s, the song was popularized by Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi. After I moved to the US, it became my favorite Thanksgiving song as it celebrates both the amazing food and the joys of friendship.
In my village, sweet potatoes came in many colors, shapes and tastes. My mother loved the easy preparation (boil and serve), but we also ate them uncooked or roasted them on an open fire. There is simply no bad way to prepare sweet potatoes.
At some point sweet potatoes faded (逐渐消失) from our diets as more farmers started growing Irish white potatoes. It’s easy to understand why. They could grow more white potatoes than sweet potatoes in the same unit of land, and, what’s more, the white potatoes’ growing time was shorter. But the white potato is no match for the sweet potato in nutritional (营养的) value. Full of vitamins (维生素), sweet potatoes are as good as any superfood but cost much less. Despite having lower levels of vitamins, white potatoes became common. In the 1990s and early 2000s,sweet potatoes were largely ignored by agricultural development organizations.
However, thanks to efforts to breed (培育) improved varieties of sweet potatoes, they’re making a comeback in many African countries. These varieties greatly benefit farmers more harvest for the same amount of effort. They’re sweeter to the taste. And they have higher levels of vitamin A than past generations of sweet potatoes. The sweet potato is also a “climate-smart” crop. It is resilient to drought and heat stress, thus offering small farmers a practical climate change adaptation strategy.
More than a type of food, “sweet potato” is also a lovely expression used by many Zimbabweans. Men often write love letters with words like “You will forever be my sweet potato” or sign “Your sweet potato”. Very few foods have made this magical jump into the world of love.
19.What can we learn about sweet potatoes
A.They can be cooked in various ways. B.They can be found easily in the US.
C.They are too common to be loved. D.They are typical Thanksgiving food.
20.Why did many farmers once grow white potatoes instead of sweet potatoes
A.They were healthier and tasted better.
B.They were encouraged by the authorities.
C.They meant the higher productivity of the same land.
D.They could adapt to the local environment better.
21.What do the underlined words “resilient to” in paragraph 4 mean
A.Responding quickly to something. B.Sticking closely to something.
C.Depending mainly on something. D.Recovering easily from something.
22.What is the expression “sweet potato” used as in Zimbabwe
A.A romantic term. B.The magic words.
C.An excellent idea. D.An honorary title.
While tortillas (玉米粉圆饼) come to mind when Mexico is mentioned, every January 6, Mexicans’ love of bread reaches the highest point with the cutting of oval brioche (奶油蛋卷) decorated with candied fruit known as king cakes to celebrate a special festival.
Just hours before Mexicans took their first slices, hundreds of shoppers packed amid the overwhelming smell of fresh-baked bread inside the Ideal Bakery, one of Mexico City’s oldest bakeries, to buy their king cakes, known as “rosca de reyes”.
Among the big crowd was Dalia Hernandez, a 34-year-old homemaker who was thrilled to go to the bakery. “I really like coming to the bakery. Last year, only my husband came, but this time we all came because it is part of a family tradition,” she said. “The tradition of the cakes has lived on and we are so crazy about them because they are part of our culture, our identity as Mexicans.”
The king cakes have their origins in 14th-century France and Spain and got to Mexico Later. Even though the king cake is a seasonal treat eaten only during the early days of January, it’s something enjoyed by all levels of Mexican society, keeping demand high, said Oswaldo Tapia, chef for the company NTD Ingredients.
Mexico has added its own touches, making it in an oval shape and often filling it with cream. Traditionally, Mexicans had decorated their king cakes with acitron, a candied element from a particular type of cactus (仙人掌). But the government prohibited that in 2005 due to the impact on the species. Other fruits are now substituted for it.
The figurine (小雕像) of a baby is hidden inside the cakes. The person who finds the figurine in their slice is supposed to buy tamales (玉米粉蒸肉) for everyone present on February 2, another feast day.
Inside the Ideal Bakery Wednesday, Ana Morales, a 54-year-old businesswoman, recalled running through the building’s patio as a child. Her family lived in an upper part of the building so she awoke each morning to the smell of baking bread.
“This place is fascinating, beautiful,” Morales said. “Coming today for a real rosca de reyes is to live a beautiful festival. The truth is whoever doesn’t eat rosca de reyes doesn’t know Mexico. This is the taste of Mexico. It is a tradition and a privilege to be able to still enjoy bread.”
23.Why are Mexicans crazy about the king cakes according to Dalia Hernandez
A.Because they regard the king cakes as a cultural symbol of Mexico.

C.Because they believe the king cakes can help them fight against bad things.

I used to overeat. I’ve never been significantly overweight, so people are surprised to hear this. When you think of overeating, you think of someone who is above their natural weight range(范围), right Well, I used to purposefully undereat as well. I was able to keep my weight within some control, but only through a lot of physical and mental pain.
Here’s a glimpse(一瞥)into my life as a first-year university student:
Friday: Go to a party and eat a lot of chips. Feel guilt and regret. Vow (发誓) to wake up and run an extra mile.
Saturday: Run 6 miles, come home and only eat a tiny breakfast. Eat like a bird for the rest of the day. Feel proud of myself.
Sunday: Study and snack on chocolate chips all day. Feel sick.
Monday: Head to class with no snack and no money so that I can’t buy any food. Feel hungry but full of willpower. Go home and overeat at dinner. Feel out of control.
My feelings were on a constant pendulum shift. I was proud and in control one moment, and then full of regret and out of control the next. It was exhausting.
As I studied nutrition and human anatomy(人体解剖学) in university,I started to learn just how amazing the human body is! The human body is an amazing, self-regulatory system. It knows precisely how much food it needs. When I learned this, my whole world changed. I stopped trying to manage my eating with willpower. Instead of trying to power through my hunger, I would provide my body with wholesome foods, so I would feel hungry less often.
This process definitely took some work and reflection, but after a while it became second nature. Eating has become a joyful experience, instead of a source of stress and worry in my life. All my eating is now guilt-free! I shamelessly eat unhealthy snacks without regret. Of course, the majority of my food intake does come from whole, healthy foods that are close to nature.

Microgreen Farming
Microgreens have been used in cooking since the 1980s. 31 Chefs now realize they also add flavor and visual appeal when included in all types of dishes and recipes.
As with most vegetables, it all starts with seeds. But instead of allowing the plant to grow to its full potential, microgreens are created when the plant is harvested shortly after it starts to grow. The result is a strong flavor and an ingredient that packs a variety of nutrients and health benefits in a tiny, delicious package. The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry states that microgreens have increased levels of vitamins E, C and K. 32
One of the most significant benefits of using microgreens in dishes is that they provide an intense experience that will improve the overall flavor of any dish. Many chefs use them to add depth of flavor and to create complex flavor. Another benefit of microgreens is the convenience factor — they are incredibly easy to cook with! 33 You just put them onto your meals such as soups, sandwiches, salads, etc. Microgreens are the ultimate healthy convenience food!
34 It is usually ready for harvest in only 6-7 days and offers a spicy radish taste. The result is a dish that not only tastes wonderful but offers a visual appeal that satisfies the eyes and is incredibly nutritious!
Traditional plants require an extended amount of time and large amounts of land. 35 They require very little physical effort and are ready for harvest in as little as one week. So you should first let the whole family know the importance of changing bad eating habits. It is evident that low-sugar and low-fat foods contribute to good health.

It may be an effective start to change their eating habits.

In 2010, Barack Obama was to pay a visit to Mumbai’s Gandhi Museum, where palm(棕榈)trees full of me dotted the grounds. The president knew me well-coconuts (椰子)are a part of life in Indonesia, where he spent his boyhood. Before his visit, Indian authorities, however, removed every last sign of me around the museum. They were afraid the president of the United States would be taken out by one of me falling on his head.
Let’s get this out of the way: My reputation as the “killer fruit” of countless innocents was then and still is a misbelief. A repeatedly misinterpreted 1984 study overstated the number of deaths I caused by hitting people on the head, and the word spread. Today, the only things about me “to die for” are the sometimes too-delicious foods you humans make with me, such as cookies and pies. A decade ago, health experts briefly gave me a halo because some of my fats may raise beneficial cholesterol (胆固醇). But ask a heart doctor today and they’ll tell you that coconut oil will raise your bad cholesterol as much. Death by coconut, indeed!
People have other wrong ideas about me. But allow me to leave you with a sweet presidential tale. A World War II boat commanded by one John F.Kennedy was destroyed in 1943 by a Japanese warship. Kennedy and his surviving crew were stuck on an island. They were suffering from hunger, thirst and injuries when they met two friendly native coast-watchers. Kennedy scratched a message into a coconut shell: “NAURO ISL...COMMANDER...11 ALIVE...NEED SMALL BOAT...KENNEDY.”
The coast-watchers delivered this successfully and all the crew were saved. Years later, the coconut shell was given to the newly elected president. It sat on his office desk throughout his presidency and now is a center-piece of the John F.Kennedy Library in Boston-as the proof that we coconuts don’t take lives, we save them.;

C.made me well-known D.brought me a good name;
25.How does the author sound in the passage
A.Amusing. B.Anxious.
C.Concerned. D.Romantic.;
26.What is the purpose of the passage
A.To show a new discovery. B.To correct people’s misbelief.

You will be asked for your first name, which you should state clearly. 31 Don’t be mad if they spell or read your name incorrectly. People who have unique or hard-to-spell names will sometimes use an easy "Starbucks" name when ordering, like Mike or Amy.

For ordering basic coffee, beyond specifying the size you want, you need to tell the servers whether you want regular or decaffeinated coffee. 33 If you intend to add cream or milk to your coffee, say with room for cream, or simply, with room. If you want a full cup, say no room. Read the list above the counter ahead of time, because they may not ask you which you would like. 34 You will have to wait a bit longer for a new batch (批) to get prepared. Once you you’re your coffee, you will find milk, cream and sweeteners on a nearby counter.
