I picked up my two best friends and we were off on a road trip.I had just returned to America from a year abroad in China. So,naturally I wanted to take a trip to Canada.
Montreal, the second largest city in Canada,is a four-hour drive from my home in New Hampshire. We felt a thrill as we crossed the border into Canada. It was the first time I had ever driven across an international border. We turned on the radio to try and find some Canadian stations.
After dropping off our bags at our hotel,we were immediately walking down the famous St.Catherine’s Street. While we walked, two things surprised us: how cold it was and how well everyone dressed. The streets of Montreal are like a fashion show. Both men and women look like they stepped out of the pages of a magazine.
All of that fashion has to keep them warm since Montreal is so cold.Last year it broke the record for the most snowfall in North America. To hide from the cold we went into a small diner because we wanted to order Poutine,a very popular snack in Montreal. It is French fries covered in cheese and brown gravy(肉汁).It is delicious.
However,we had a hard time ordering the dish since the official language of Montreal is French. It is actually the fifth largest French-speaking city in the world. But since the rest of Canada speak English, plenty of people were there to help.
We spent the rest of the weekend going to many historical buildings and monuments in Montreal. But at night we’d head to the very modern dance clubs and bars.Montreal is a city that sits between the past and the future and the traveller can choose whichever direction he wants to go.

The Appalachian Trail winds some 2,190 miles across 14 states in the eastern US.Although it attracts thousands of serious hikers each spring, only one in four hikers completes the entire trail.
The Sutton family recently finished hiking the entire trail. They are a unique trio(三人组) as their son Harvey turned five on the trail, which makes him the youngest to complete the Appalachian Trail.
Josh and Carrie Sutton said they needed to take breaks from busy work called mini-retirements.“We set the family goal of living a life with extraordinary stories.Doing things like hiking with a child on the Appalachian Trail gives you extraordinary stories,” Josh Sutton said.
When Harvey turned three, they took him winter camping, and by the time he was four, the family completed a 50-mile hike, camping over six days.Seeing that Harvey developed a passion for hiking, they planned a thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail.Hiking from end to end is called a thru-hike and generally takes five to seven months to complete.
They hit the trail in Georgia on January 13,2021.The first weeks were cold. The trail was icy and snow-covered,and the weather was often cloudy and bitter,so they made slow progress. They would wake up early each day, pack their gear(装备),and then start walking. As they had many miles to cover each day, they had to be creative and started using imagination and Skittles(彩虹糖) as incentive for little Harvey.
The family completed their journey on August 9,2021.Little Harvey learned to count all the way to 2,193,the total miles his little feet traveled, and a big number for someone who just started kindergarten.“I will do it again because I like it so much,” said Harvey.
Although the Suttons are now back home, they have incredible memories of this mini-retirement.The journey is a life-changing experience for the Sutton family and is an inspiration for families who dream of taking a similar journey.

I used to overeat. I’ve never been significantly overweight, so people are surprised to hear this. When you think of overeating, you think of someone who is above their natural weight range(范围), right Well, I used to purposefully undereat as well. I was able to keep my weight within some control, but only through a lot of physical and mental pain.
Here’s a glimpse(一瞥)into my life as a first-year university student:
Friday: Go to a party and eat a lot of chips. Feel guilt and regret. Vow (发誓) to wake up and run an extra mile.
Saturday: Run 6 miles, come home and only eat a tiny breakfast. Eat like a bird for the rest of the day. Feel proud of myself.
Sunday: Study and snack on chocolate chips all day. Feel sick.
Monday: Head to class with no snack and no money so that I can’t buy any food. Feel hungry but full of willpower. Go home and overeat at dinner. Feel out of control.
My feelings were on a constant pendulum shift. I was proud and in control one moment, and then full of regret and out of control the next. It was exhausting.
As I studied nutrition and human anatomy(人体解剖学) in university,I started to learn just how amazing the human body is! The human body is an amazing, self-regulatory system. It knows precisely how much food it needs. When I learned this, my whole world changed. I stopped trying to manage my eating with willpower. Instead of trying to power through my hunger, I would provide my body with wholesome foods, so I would feel hungry less often.
This process definitely took some work and reflection, but after a while it became second nature. Eating has become a joyful experience, instead of a source of stress and worry in my life. All my eating is now guilt-free! I shamelessly eat unhealthy snacks without regret. Of course, the majority of my food intake does come from whole, healthy foods that are close to nature.

Hello, my dear fellows. I’m really excited to be informed that we are going to start an English journal together, which is definitely a wonderful idea. It’s such a golden opportunity to enhance students’ English capability and appreciate the charm of the English language.
As for proposals, I’d like to recommend “Students’ Voice” as a distinctive column. As studying is always students’ top priority, we students are under great pressure and lack opportunities to be listened to. Why not help students voice inner feelings and have a good mood to embrace the tough yet bright future This column, I promise, is bound to be a precious outlet and a stepping stone to communicating fluently in English.
That’s all for my advice! Thank you!

The mountains were formed from sedimentary rocks(沉积岩) which were pushed east over newer rock formations, between 80 and 55 million years ago.Over the previous few million years, glaciers have at times covered most of the park, but today are found only on the mountainsides though they include the Columbia Icefield, the largest continuous glacial mass in the Rockies.Erosion(侵蚀) from water and ice has molded the mountains into their existing shapes.

It wasn’t that long ago that TV advertising was the center of big companies with bigger budgets hoping to raise awareness and interest of their brands (品牌).
But the explosive (骤增的) growth of Connected TV (CTV) ruined the traditional model. Yes, major well-known names are still booming on television, but new brands of all backgrounds can unlock the benefits of TV, no matter their size or spend. That’s certainly a well-proven story. Still, one important question remains: Who are these brands that are redefining (重新定义) TV advertising
The truth is just about every company can now be a TV advertiser. Brands were often locked out unless they unwillingly accepted late-night programs or struggling networks, well-known names hoping to measure standards that go beyond brand awareness, direct — to consumer (DTC) businesses with TV dreams and a digital advertising budget, or business — to business brands in need of changing.
So why are brands pouring to CTV Because that’s where the audiences are. In fact, eMarketer estimates that 213.7 million viewers are watching CTV every month.
Ad dollars are following that viewership (观众人数): 41 of brands are rescheduling their social budgets toward CTV. And as the list of streaming platforms (直播平台) with or planning to include advertising grows (HB) Max, Hulu, Peacock, Disney+, and Netflix, more dollars are likely to follow.
But making the jump to CTV isn’t all about budget. Brands have been slow to do it due to a long lack of TV experience, concerns about responsibility, and an uncertainty around how to approach the enormous medium creatively and effectively.
There are still a lot of questions surrounding this new range of opportunity. So, let’s get up close and personal with three brands to understand why they’ve made the jump into CTV and finally, how they became successful CTV advertisers.;
20.What can we infer from the second paragraph

23.What is probably continued with the text
A.Brands which make it. B.Questions to be dealt with.

One of the key tasks for leaders at GE (General Electric) is to look after the company's resources. We watch how money is spent and protect the company's assets (资产).We make efficiencies (提高功效的方法) and fight to find funding for new ideas. We care about the health and welfare of our employees, and work to keep them safe all over the world.
Where we sometimes fall short—I am sure this is true of most organizations—is with time.I don't think we manage time as well as we could. We have meetings that include too many participants, some of whom don't need (or want) to be there.Too much time is spent at the start of meetings passing around information that could be shared in advance. Some meetings go on longer than they need to, and don't always result in real actions, or decisions.
Leaders make personal decisions about how to distribute their own time, and this affects how others and particularly their teams have to spend their time.I've asked people in my organization to think ahead—what can be done individually or beforehand. We need to think about the impact every time we occupy time, or create work, for others.
Wasting time contributes to a competitive disadvantage. It keeps us from doing things that matter and meeting deadlines. One solution we're working on at GE is adopting a “FastWorks” mindset. This is a lean start up concept we developed to better understand pain points, quickly test product or service hypotheses (假设) and to understand if a proposed solution is right. We used this approach to develop our GuardEon circuit breaker in less than half the time it would previously have taken and went to market 3 years sooner.
If you are like me, you have your best days when you accomplish things. The worst days are when we spend time doing things without results, and you come away feeling you have wasted time.We don't mind working hard, but we want to get things done. The old saying went something like “Time is money.” In today's world, it's more like “Time is speed and focus, and speed and focus are money.” We are more successful if we are focused and spend our time doing the things that matter.
24.What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A.To stress the importance of finding funds.
B.To show the company's care for employees.
C.To call for the employees to treasure their careers.
D.To lay the base for the viewpoint being presented.
25.How can a leader in a company make wise use of the meeting time
A.By inviting more participants to a meeting.
B.By sharing more information at the meeting.
C.By attaching importance to individual tasks.
D.By focusing more on what requires teamwork.
26.What is the benefit of a “FastWorks” mindset in Paragraph 4
A.It can greatly increase efficiency.
B.It can lead to advances in technology.
C.It can help workers find more solutions.
D.It can persuade people to work harder.
27.What would be the best title for the passage
A.GE Leaders Manage Time Well
B.There Is No Point in Wasting Time
C.Meeting the Deadline Makes Sense
D.Applying Technology to Life Matters

In your letter, you asked me for my plans on summer vacation. Now, I am writing to tell you some specific details.
Overall, three things will make my summer vacation meaningful. To start with, doing a part-time job is my dream and I intend to work as a salesman because not only can I earn money by myself, but also it will broaden my horizons. In addition, it is a fabulous choice to visit some famous scenic spots such as Mount Tai during the vacation, in order to enjoy appealing scenery and make more friends. What is more, doing voluntary work, I think, will make a great contribution to the society, which is able to enrich my life.
I sincerely apologize again for my mistake. By the way, what’s your plan to spend your summer vacation
I am looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,

59.【答案】Possible version one:
E-books or Printed books
Nowadays, e-books have been gaining ever-increasing popularity with its portability and easy accessibility. However, I still have an undeniably strong preference for reading printed books.
Firstly, reading physical books facilitates comprehension. Without distractions popping up, readers are more likely to be absorbed in the reading, which lays the foundation for a sound grasp of knowledge. Additionally, it is really an engaging experience to leaf through the pages and even highlight your favorite lines.
To sum up, under no circumstances will physical books be replaced by e-books. Why not pick a book and immerse yourself in the awesome experience!
Possible version two:
E-books or Printed books
The debate about printed books or e-books has been an age-old one. As for me, I stand up for the latter. On top of edges like portability, easy updates and customized services, two other advantages shine through.
First and foremost, e-books totally eliminate the paper publishing and shipping processes, which means more trees saved from being chopped down and less emissions released into air. Thus, e-books are better for the environment on the whole. Furthermore, e-books provide readers with multimedia elements, such as audio or video options, especially friendly to users with learning disability or visual impairment.
In conclusion, e-books offer numerous advantages over printed versions, making them an ideal alternative for readers.

My six-year-old granddaughter stared at me as if she was seeing me for the first time. “Grandma, you are an antique (古董),” she said. “You are old. Antiques are old. You are my antique.”
I was not satisfied to let the matter rest there. I took out the Webster’s Dictionary and read the definition to Jenny. I explained, “An antique is not only old, it’s an object existing since or belonging to earlier times...a work of art... a piece of furniture. Antiques are treasured,” I told Jenny as I put away the dictionary. “They have to be handled carefully because they sometimes are very valuable. In order to qualify as an antique, the object has to be at least 100 years old.”
“I’m only 67,” I reminded Jenny.
We looked around the house for other antiques, besides me. There was a desk that was handed down from Rone aunt to another and finally to our family. “It’s very old,” I told Jenny. “I try to keep it polished and I show it off whenever I can. You do that with antiques."
There was a picture on the wall bought at a garage sale. It was dated 1867. “Now that’s an antique,” I said with pride. “Over 100 years old.” Of course it was marked up and scratched (刮坏) and not in very good condition. “Sometimes age does that,” I told Jenny. “But the marks are good marks. They show living, or being around. That’s something to display with pride. In fact, sometimes, the more an object shows age, the more valuable it can become.” I believed this was important for my own self-worth.
Our tour of antiques continued. There was a vase on the floor. It had been in my house for a long time. I was not certain where it came from but I didn’t buy it new. One thing about antiques, I explained to Jenny, was that they usually had a story. They’d been in one home and then another, handed down from one family to another, traveling all over the place. They’d lasted through years and years. They could have been thrown away, or ignored, or destroyed, or lost. But instead, they survived.
For a moment, Jenny looked thoughtful. “l don’t have any antiques but you,” she said. Then her face brightened,“Could I take you to school for show and tell ”
“Only if I fit into your backpack,” I answered. And then Jenny’s antique lifted her up and embraced her in a hug that would last through the years.
19.Why did Grandma read the definition of “antique” to Jenny

C.To express her disappointment at being called “antique”.
D.To tell Jenny the importance of protecting antiques.

A.The desk reminded her of her dear relatives.
B.The marks on the picture showed its age and value.
C.There was usually a sad story behind each antique.
D.She planned to buy a new vase to replace the old one.
21.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Jenny had a strong desire for grandma’s love.

D.Grandma was too old to lift Jenny up.
22.What can be the best title for the passage

【知识点】一般现在时、学校生活、日常活动、演讲稿
