When their daughter Morey started kindergarten, the Belanger family were worried because their 6-year-old daughter is deaf.Rather than send her to a special school for deaf children, Morey’s parents decided to give her a traditional school experience and send her to Dayton Consolidated School.
They worried if their daughter would be able to make friends. They also had concerns as how her classmates would treat her and whether her teachers would be able to help her learn effectively. But then the school had a response they never expected — teaching all students and staff sign language. That way, everyone could communicate with Morey on a personal level.
“I absolutely feel like it makes her feel welcomed,” said Morey’s mom.“I think all the kids feel excited that they know another language and it’s fun.It makes me happy to see her supported, loved and accepted.Morey is excited to go to school every day. She’s made really good friends.”
Not only did they learn sign language, but they also put up sign language posters in the hall and equipped a special hearing system.Additionally, they provided extra training so that teachers could become more familiar with the language.“Morey, without even knowing it, has taught us so much,” says headmaster Kimberly Sampietro.“She’s brought a culture to our building that we didn’t have before.Morey helps the whole class to learn the alphabet. The kids look up to her. They want her around, and they want to partner her.”

When you choose a friend, you should be very careful.A good friend can help you study. You can have fun together and make each other happy.Sometimes you will meet fair-weather friends. They will be with you as long as you have money or luck, but when you are down, they will run away. How do I know when I have found a good friend?I look for certain qualities in his character, such as understanding, honesty and reliability (可靠).

In addition to above all, there is a fourth quality that makes a friend special.A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun.He likes to do the same things as me.We share experience and learn from each other. Then we can enjoy our lives and our friendship.

Chris Edwards says he has almost been hit by an electric car while walking through a car park.
The head of Government Relations and Advocacy at Vision Australia, who is blind, is actively calling for Australia to finally make cars and other vehicles, such as bikes and light motorcycles, “noisier”.“The growing number of electric vehicles is a big worry for Australians with low or no vision,” he said.
Around 35 per cent of people with vision problems surveyed by Vision Australia said they had been hit, or nearly hit by a vehicle, while walking.“We get contacted at Vision Australia a couple of times a month by people talking about the problem,” Edwards said.
Vision Australia strongly advises the new federal transport minister, Catherine King, to finally take action in line with other countries.Nations, such as the USA and Japan, as well as the European Union, have ruled that electric cars must make a noise when travelling at slower speeds to warn people who can’t see them.
“More and more electric cars will enter the market in the future. This will bring about safety problems not only for blind people, but for everybody in the community,” Edwards said.
Vision Australia says studies have shown the number of Australians with no or low vision will reach more than 500,000 by 2030.At present about 131,000 Australians are partially or fully blind, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
Delivery service HungryPanda’s Director of Public Affairs Kitty Lu said the service, which has 15,000 drivers who use electric vehicles, would welcome new rules.
“We have actually started talks about fixing a special sound bell system on all of our e-bikes to ensure those who are blind or have low vision can always hear one of our riders coming,” Lu said.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (DITRDC) said the department understands people’s worries about the risks for vulnerable (脆弱的) road users by electric vehicles, and that the department plans to collect opinions on the idea of requiring new electric vehicles to have audible (听得见的) warning systems in the coming months.
12.What does Vision Australia call for Australia to do?

Conflict (矛盾) Is Natural
It’s normal for teens to have fights and disagreements. 19 Teen friendships help adolescents learn how to deal with conflict and how to recognize what they could do differently. Moreover, they learn how important it is to say “I’m sorry” and also how important it is to pardon the other person.

Four Culturally Diverse Cities
  New York City
It is probably not all that surprising to find out that the Big Apple is
one of the most diverse cities in the world. It has the largest population of
immigrants on the planet.Over 35% of its residents are born outside the
USA. You can hear over 800 languages in New York City being spoken on
a daily basis.Which is the most multicultural district in the city?Queens
is the largest and also the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world!
London
London may come in second place behind New York City for
percentage of immigrant population. But it is easily the most diverse city in
all of Europe.Bangladeshis, Pakistanis, and Indians are a few of the
larger immigrant groups, and a walk around the city will uncover that
they have definitely brought their culture with them.People from around
the world are drawn to London and over 30% of its residents are born
outside the UK.
Singapore
This city-state is not just the main financial center of Southeast Asia,
but also one of the most diverse places on the planet.Singapore has four
official languages: Mandarin Chinese, English, Malay, and Tamil. It
is also a center for international residents. So, you are sure to meet large
communities of permanent (永久的) residents who are foreign-born.
Sydney
Following World War Ⅱ, Sydney saw a huge inflow of
immigrants. This trend has continued into the present day, making
Sydney one of the most diverse cities in the world.Although English is the
official language spoken in Sydney, this city is home to more than 250
languages.Immigrants from places such as Vietnam, India, and South
America have made this city their home and brought their cultures with
them. You will be spoilt for choice (多得挑花眼) when it comes to
Sydney’s cultural diversity!

When their daughter Morey started kindergarten, the Belanger
family were worried because their 6-year-old daughter is deaf.Rather than
send her to a special school for deaf children, Morey’s parents decided
to give her a traditional school experience and send her to Dayton
Consolidated School.
They worried if their daughter would be able to make friends. They
also had concerns as how her classmates would treat her and whether her
teachers would be able to help her learn effectively. But then the school
had a response they never expected — teaching all students and staff sign
language. That way, everyone could communicate with Morey on a
personal level.
“I absolutely feel like it makes her feel welcomed,” said
Morey’s mom.“I think all the kids feel excited that they know another
language and it’s fun.It makes me happy to see her supported, loved
and accepted.Morey is excited to go to school every day. She’s made
really good friends.”
Not only did they learn sign language, but they also put up sign
language posters in the hall and equipped a special hearing
system.Additionally, they provided extra training so that teachers could
become more familiar with the language.“Morey, without even
knowing it, has taught us so much,” says headmaster Kimberly
Sampietro.“She’s brought a culture to our building that we didn’t
have before.Morey helps the whole class to learn the alphabet. The kids
look up to her. They want her around, and they want to partner her.”
Morey’s hearing loss is a result of a condition that’s so rare that
it’s never been named. However, thanks to the hard work and goodwill
of her classmates and teachers, she can communicate with them on her
terms.

Chris Edwards says he has almost been hit by an electric car while
walking through a car park.
The head of Government Relations and Advocacy at Vision
Australia, who is blind, is actively calling for Australia to finally make
cars and other vehicles, such as bikes and light motorcycles,
“noisier”.“The growing number of electric vehicles is a big worry for
Australians with low or no vision,” he said.
Around 35 per cent of people with vision problems surveyed by
Vision Australia said they had been hit, or nearly hit by a vehicle, while
walking.“We get contacted at Vision Australia a couple of times a month
by people talking about the problem,” Edwards said.
Vision Australia strongly advises the new federal transport minister,
Catherine King, to finally take action in line with other
countries.Nations, such as the USA and Japan, as well as the European
Union, have ruled that electric cars must make a noise when travelling at
slower speeds to warn people who can’t see them.
“More and more electric cars will enter the market in the future. This
will bring about safety problems not only for blind people, but for
everybody in the community,” Edwards said.
Vision Australia says studies have shown the number of Australians
with no or low vision will reach more than 500,000 by 2030.At present
about 131,000 Australians are partially or fully blind, according to the
Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
Delivery service HungryPanda’s Director of Public Affairs Kitty Lu
said the service, which has 15,000 drivers who use electric vehicles,
would welcome new rules.
“We have actually started talks about fixing a special sound bell
system on all of our e-bikes to ensure those who are blind or have low
vision can always hear one of our riders coming,” Lu said.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Infrastructure, Transport,
Regional Development and Communications (DITRDC) said the
department understands people’s worries about the risks for vulnerable
(脆弱的) road users by electric vehicles, and that the department
plans to collect opinions on the idea of requiring new electric vehicles to
have audible (听得见的) warning systems in the coming months.

Talking to Teens About Friendships
Parents can’t choose their teenagers’ friends or control their
friendships. 16 Here are some of the most important things about
friendship that parents should share with their teens.
Authentic (真实的) Connection
The best teen friendships allow teenagers to speak honestly and
openly about how they are feeling. 17 This kind of authentic
connection will support them during adolescence (青春期) and beyond.
The Power of Listening
Friendships depend on listening as well as sharing.Strong teen
friendships depend on listening closely and responding with
encouragement and positive feedback
Friendships Change
18 People change as they grow up, and then they may grow
apart.Parents can encourage teens to think about the qualities that are
important to them in a relationship.Friendships are more likely to last
when teens have similar values, and want the same things out of the
relationship.
Conflict (矛盾) Is Natural
It’s normal for teens to have fights and disagreements. 19 Teen
friendships help adolescents learn how to deal with conflict and how to
recognize what they could do differently. Moreover, they learn how
important it is to say “I’m sorry” and also how important it is to
pardon the other person.
In conclusion, teen friendships matter — a lot. 20 By sharing,
parents can not only help their teens win true friends, but also improve
their parent-child relationships.
A. It can help friends stay calm.
B. Not all teen friendships last forever.
C. Parents should listen to what they say patiently.
D. They’re a huge part of growing into adulthood.
E. But that doesn’t mean the friendship has to end.
F. Moreover, they can do so without fear of being judged.
G. But they can talk to their teens about what friendship should feel like.

G项中的they指代上文中的Parents, their teens呼应上文中的their
F项中的they指代上文中的teenagers, do so指代上文中
的speak honestly and openly about how they are feeling。
B项中的teen、 friendships、 last
文中的have fights and disagreements。
friendships。
