二、阅读单选(本大题共4小题)
Reading can be a social activity. Think of the people who belong to book groups. They choose books to read and then meet to discuss them. Now, the website turns the page on the traditional idea of a book group.
Members go on the site and register(注册) the books they own and would like to share. BookCrossing provides an identification number to stick inside the book. Then the person leaves it in a public place, hoping that the book will have an adventure, traveling far and wide with each new reader who finds it.
Bruce Pederson, the managing director of BookCrossing, says, “The two things that change your life are the people you meet and books you read. BookCrossing combines(联系) both.”
Members leave books on park benches and buses, in train stations and coffee shops. Whoever finds their book will go to the site and record where they found it.
People who find a book can also leave a journal entry describing what they thought of it. E-mails are then sent to the BookCrossing to keep them updated about where their books have been found. Bruce Pederson says the idea is for people not to be selfish by keeping a book to gather dust on a shelf at home.

Video games can spend hours intensely focused on leveling up — progressing to the next level of skill and challenge- in a virtual world, while their everyday troubles fade into the background. Called “flow”, this profoundly immersive state is familiar to artists, musicians and athletes, and has become a popular topic in the media. But video game scholar Braxton Soderman urges caution.
In his new book, Against Flow: Video Games and the Flowing Subject, Soderman aims to “create a little turbulence (湍流) in the smooth flow.” Among his criticisms of flow in relation to video gaming is that it can be used to manipulate (操纵) players for profit and socially isolate them.
“Developers of video games and apps design their technologies specifically in order to produce these intense states of concentration, to addict people to these kinds of experiences,” says Soderman. Money, of course, is the driving force behind most game design, not happiness.
Soderman has played video games almost his entire life, but as the father of two young children, he’s careful to limit the types of games and amount of time his kids spend on video games.
As with flow, Soderman worries that the concepts of play are already being manipulated by capitalism. Business owners, he says, arc being encouraged to use play and creativity to establish “playgrounds of profit” instead of creating more open, inclusive environments that actually make people happier.
“Play is an activity that is really about creativity, exploring possibilities, and freedom,” he says. “But it can be hijacked (操纵) and used in a wrong way”.
The concept of play, like flow, is one that Soderman will challenge us all to step back and think about critically. Because, as he shows in Against Flow, getting lost in a video game for a while can be fun, as long as you don’t end up swept away in a lonely current of someone else’ s profit.
26.What’s a key sign of video games being in a “flow” state
A.Profound interest in arts and music.
B.Increased focus on everyday troubles.
C.Persistent engagement in online chatting.
D.Intense concentration on game progression.
27.What is the ultimate purpose of most game design
A.To foster genuine happiness. B.To enhance social interactions.
C.To build up concentration skills. D.To profit from player involvement.
28.According to Soderman, what is a concern about “play”
A.It’s subject to capitalist influence.
B.It blocks creativity and possibilities.
C.It’s unfavorable for game development.
D.It promotes addiction to virtual socializing.
29.What is the text most likely to be
A.A review of recent video game research.
B.A report about game development practices.
C.An introduction to a newly published book.
D.An essay on the concepts of “flow” and “play”.

I’m a layperson with a love of science who occasionally reads science magazines. My approach was from an author’s angle, spending months on research before writing a single word for Pig Heart Boy.
So where did I get the idea Whenever I attend a school event, that question is asked. The answer is simple. Back in the mid 1990s, I read a newspaper article written by a doctor who guessed that we would eventually have to turn to xenotransplantation(异种器官移植) as a possible solution to the lack of human organ donors. It left my mind filled with questions. What are the consequences Do we really have the right to treat animals as me re organ sources for humans So I headed to my nearest bookshop and bought all the books I could on heart transplants in particular.
I’ve found questions are one of the best places to start from when writing a novel. In my story Cameron, who needs a heart transplant, knows he is unlikely to see his next birthday unless he receives one, but he is a long way down the waiting list. When a genetically modified (GM) pig’s heart is offered by a pioneering doctor, Cameron decides to go for it — and his new heart completely changes his life in unexpected ways.
Now some people think that the subject matter is not suitable for children, criticizing the cruel and inhuman ways of xenotransplantation. I completely disagree. As a children’s author, it never ceases to amaze me how some adults underestimate what subject matter will interest and stimulate children. I wanted to write a story that provided no right or wrong answers, a story that would allow the reader to walk in Cameron’s shoes for a while and think about what decisions they would make and how they would react if they too were faced with his situation.
Fictional stories that explore new ideas when it comes to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects also have a part to play in enriching our children’s reading and learning. Various studies have shown that reading fiction enhances our children’s ability to grasp new concepts. Pig Heart Boy was my attempt to incorporate science possible into a believable, thought-provoking(令人深思的) story.

一、完形(15空)(本大题共1小题)
Over the centuries Shakespeare’s plays have gained a reputation for being difficult to understand. But if his work is experienced on stage as Shakespeare intended, then it can become much clearer. In fact 95% of the words used in Shakespeare’s plays are the same words we use today.
The meanings of some words have altered significantly, 1 , because Shakespeare was writing at a time of great linguistic change. This gave him a certain amount of 2 license in his language.
So what can Shakespeare’s plays tell us about how people really spoke at this time And did anyone really speak like his characters The lines spoken by Corin to Rosalind and Celia in As You Like It probably weren’t 3 of an Elizabethan shepherd.
The first thing to remember about Shakespeare’s work is that he wrote plays to entertain. They are 4 works, and the dialogue was exploited to suit the stage. Therefore his characters’ language did not always 5 how real people would have spoken.
For instance, in As You Like It when Corin, the shepherd, talks of love, his lines are beautiful and poetic – but 6 unrealistic. The lines Shakespeare gave Corin probably wouldn’t have been used by an Elizabethan shepherd – instead they 7 to highlight the drama.
Another example of how the theatrical style enriched Shakespeare’s text can be seen in the structure of his lines. According to the practice of the time, Shakespeare wrote his poems in iambic pentameter(抑扬格五音步) so it was 8 for his actors to learn. When Shakespeare was writing, new plays were performed every day so this 10-beat structure was a great help for anyone having to learn a lot of lines for the next day’s play.
9 this structure meant that, on occasion, Shakespeare made up or adapted words to fit. 10 , on several occasions Shakespeare changed the word “vast” to “vasty” when “vast” did not fit the 11 of the line. But if we look beyond the dialogue to the words themselves we can find out a little of how people really spoke.
We can come close to this thanks to “original pronunciation” which is a system of 12 that reproduce how the Elizabethans are believed to have spoken. Today it sounds like a West Country accent, with echoes of other parts of the country. When we 13 this to Shakespeare’s dialogue, rhymes and puns(押韵与双关) that are not heard in modern English are suddenly revealed.
So through Shakespeare’s plays we can 14 a great deal about how people really spoke. His dialogue was on the whole representative of the language of the time and area and now provides us with invaluable insight into a(n) 15 language.

A recent trend in the entertainment world is to adapt classic works of literature for either TV plays or the movies. One argument is that this is to everyone’s benefit,as it introduces people to works they might otherwise never have experienced, while others say that turning books into movies not only cheapens the original, but is rarely done successfully. So what do you think
In the past few years,we have seen several classic works of literature were adapted into movies. Many people believe that turning a novel into a film is a great idea, but some obviously think otherwise.According to the latter, translating classic works into movies destroys its originality and credibility. In my opinion, literary works can get translated into the screens effectively.
The main challenge that filmmakers face while turning a classic work into a movie is its imaginary world.Generally, the perception(见解) of the book’s imaginary world differs from person to person. And it’s quite challenging to put all these different perceptions in one frame. But modern technology has made this challenge achievable. For example, the filmmakers used visual effects to successfully adapt “Harry Potter” movies so visually attractive that their perception of “Harry Potter” changed. Therefore, literary works can be translated into films through technical means.
Also, while making a film, the main focus of makers always remains on the main plotline and characters. But for movies based on literary works, this issue is not there as these movies carry the same basic plotline as it is present in the books. Therefore, directors do not have to spend much time and imagination on the plot of the movie, which makes the adaptation quite easy.
Based on the above arguments,I believe that it is quite possible to make a beautiful movie based on a classic work using modern technologies and a writer’s imagination.

I began writing poems fifteen years ago while I was in college. One day I was in the library, working on a term paper, when I came across a book of contemporary poetry. I don’t remember the title of the book or any of the titles of the poems except one: Frankenstein’s Daughter. The poem was wild, almost rude, and nothing like the rhyme-and-meter poetry I had read in high school. I had always thought that poetry was flowery writing about sunsets and walks on the beach, but that library book contained direct and sometimes shocking poetry about dogs, junked cars, rundown houses, and TVs. I checked the book out, curious to read more.
Soon afterward, I started filling a notebook with my own poems. At first I was scared, partly because my poetry teacher, to whom this book is written for, was a serious and strict man who could see the errors in my poems. Also, I realized the seriousness of my devotion. I gave up geography to study poetry, which a good many friends said offered no future. I ignored them because I liked working with words, using them to reconstruct the past, which has always been a source of poetry for me.
When I first studied poetry, I was single-minded. I woke to poetry and went to bed with poetry. I memorized poems, read English poets because I was told they would help shape my poems, and read classical Chinese poetry because I was told that it would add clarity to my work. But I was most taken by the Spanish and Latin American poets, particularly Pablo Neruda. My favorites of his were the odes ― long, short-lined poems celebrating common things like tomatoes, socks and scissors. I felt joyful when I read these odes, and when I began to write my own poems, I tried to remain faithful to the common things of my childhood — dogs, alleys(小巷), my baseball mitt(手套) and the fruit of the valley, especially the orange. I wanted to give these things life, to write so well that my poems would express their beauty.
I also admired our own country’s poetry. I saw that our poets often wrote about places where they grew up or places that impressed them deeply. James Wright wrote about Ohio and West Virginia, Philip Levine about Detroit, Gary Snyder about the Sierra Nevadas and about Japan, where for years he studied Zen Buddhism(禅宗佛教). I decided to write about the San Joaquin Valley, where my hometown, Fresno, is located. Some of my poems are absolute observations and images of nature — the orange yards, the Kings River, the Sequoias(红杉). I fell in love with the valley, both its ugliness and its beauty, and quietly wrote poems about it to share with others.

A.Frankenstein’s Daughter was a flowery poetry

28. Which of the following would the author most probably write about in his poem
A.Moving love stories in history.

D.Appreciation of wild valley flowers.
