Abandoned Amusement Parks Around the World
There are some abandoned amusement parks worldwide. Join us for a look at some of our interests!
Joyland
This amusement park was once the largest theme park in central Kansas. It featured a wooden roller coaster (过山车). It operated for 55 years but closed in 2004 due to financial troubles. Temporarily reopened in 2006, but it only lasted one season. Since then, it’s been destroyed and the roller coaster got stolen.
Okpo Land
Located on the Geoje Island of ROK, this park has all the makings of a horror movie. One of the park’s main attractions was a duck-themed roller coaster. It’s known to have caused at least one serious accident in the late 1990s. After that, It was closed. In 2011, the park was completely pulled down and a hotel is to be built there.
Jungle Habitat
This animal park opened in 1972. Tourists could slowly drive their vehicles along the special roadways as wild animals freely wandered about. It was closed in 1976 due to several problems. Dangerous animals reportedly escaped or injured visitors, and locals hated the traffics. Plus, competition from other parks, combined with poor management, may also have contributed to the ending. It’s been for public land use such as hiking and biking trails, so there isn’t much left of the old park.
Six Flags New Orleans
The Six Flags company bought the park in 2002. A water park was in the works, but then Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005 and the park has been closed since then. It is currently owned by New Orleans. There is a talk of transforming it into a shopping mall later.

[辽宁沈阳市郊联体2022高二联考]It's normal for teens to want to stay connected with friends and in their social circles, but what about that happening in the middle of the night Journal of Youth Studies recently published new research showing that one in five teens from 12 to 15 regularly wakes to spend all night on social media. Not surprisingly, the research also showed that these social night owls were three times more likely than others to feel tired at school.
The blue light produced by cellphones and computers makes the brain to stay awake, so it's easy to see why a teen might be up all night. A study in Psychological Science showed the same brain reaction: When teens saw large numbers of “likes” on their posts, they stayed awake with excitement as if they had eaten chocolates or won money. Besides not catching up on sleep and interrupting their sleep cycle, teens may never fully enter deep sleep that may be responsible for brain development and learning.
Considering about 72 percent of children from 6 to 17 sleep with some electronic media in their bedrooms, parents need to set rules sooner rather than later.
“Providing access to social media is a favour that children can earn and also lose,” Janie Feldman, an expert who treats sleep disorders (紊乱), reminds parents. “The bad effect is clear. So teens and parents should discuss and agree on its use, timing and access. When teenagers agree to the rules, it's easier for parents to control how much time they use the phones or computers.”

Some libraries use unique architecture to encourage visitors to explore the bookshelves and settle down with a new book, or use roving libraries to bring books to hard-to-reach populations. No matter how they achieve it, these novel libraries are keeping the magic of reading alive.
Bishan Library (Singapore)
Built in 2006, this library with skylights and trellises, is meant to invoke a modern glass treehouse. Glass pods of varying colors stick out of the building randomly to create cozy yet airy corners for reading throughout the building. At the same time, a more open-plan children’s room on the basement level invites interaction while preventing noise from filtering upward and disturbing those concentrating in the lofty perches above.
Stuttgart City Library (Stuttgart, Germany)
Opened in 2011, this nine-story public library is characterized by its attractive white color scheme (lit by blue light at night), its bold cubic shape. This cultural center for the city, designed to feel open and full of light, can be entered from any of its four sides, and people can borrow artwork as well as books.
The Camel Library Service (North Eastern Province, Kenya)
To combat low literacy rates in the desert of Kenya, the government created a roaming library composed of nine camels bringing books to villages. The library travels four days a week serving the region’s nomadic people. With more funding, they plan to increase their reach both in distance and the books they carry.
Macquarie University Library (Sydney, Australia)
A wonderful combination of cutting-edge and sustainable ideas, this building was made from recycled materials, features a green roof, and was designed to look like the shape of a eucalyptus tree. It is also state of the art, using robot cranes to bring requested books to the front desk.

Each year, the world loses about 10 million hectares of forest — an area about the size of Iceland — because of cutting down trees. At that rate, some scientists predict the world’s forests could disappear in 100 to 200 years. To handle it, now researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have pioneered a technique to generate wood-like plant materials in a lab. This makes it possible to “grow” a wooden product without cutting down trees.
In the lab, the researchers first take cells from the leaves of a young plant. These cells are cultured in liquid medium for two days, then moved to another medium which contains nutrients and two different hormones (激素). By adjusting the hormone levels, the researchers can tune the physical and mechanical qualities of the cells. Next, the researchers use a 3D printer to shape the cell-based material, and let the shaped material grow in the dark for three months. Finally, the researchers dehydrate (使脱水) the material, and then evaluate its qualities.
They found that lower hormone levels lead to plant materials with more rounded, open cells of lower density (密度), while higher hormone levels contribute to the growth of plant materials with smaller but denser cell structures. Lower or higher density of cell structures makes the plant materials softer or more rigid, helping the materials grow with different wood-like characteristics. What’s more, it’s to be noted that the research process is about 100 times faster than the time it takes for a tree to grow to maturity!
Research of this kind is ground-breaking. “This work demonstrates the great power of a technology,” says lead researcher, Jeffrey Berenstain. “The real opportunity here is to be at its best with what you use and how you use it. This technology can be tuned to meet the requirements you give about shapes, sizes, rigidity, and forms. It enables us to ‘grow’any wooden product in a way that traditional agricultural methods can’t achieve.”
26.Why do researchers at MIT conduct the research
A.To grow more trees.
B.To protect plant diversity.
C.To reduce tree losses.
D.To predict forest disappearance.
27.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about the lab research
A.Its theoretical basis.
B.Its key procedures.
C.Its scientific evidence.
D.Its usual difficulties.
28.What does the finding suggest about the plant materials
A.The hormone levels affect their rigidity.
B.They are better than naturally grown plants.
C.Their cells’shapes mainly rely on their density.
D.Their growth speed determines their characteristics.
29.Why is the research ground-breaking according to Berenstain
A.It uses new biological materials in lab experiments.
B.It has a significant impact on worldwide plant growth.
C.It challenges traditional scientific theories in forestry.
D.It revolutionizes the way to make wooden products.
三、七选五阅读(本大题共1小题)
Pathways to Scientific BreakthroughsThe Genesis of Novel Ideas
Scientific discoveries often sprout from the most unexpected seeds. A spark of curiosity can set off a chain reaction. 30 . When Archimedes noticed water spilling over as he got into the bath, that simple observation led to his famous “Eureka!” moment about displacement. Such everyday encounters, when observed with a scientific eye, can birth revolutionary concepts.Collaboration: A Winning Formula
In the complex web of modern science, collaboration has become non-negotiable. 31 . Researchers from diverse fields, like biologists and computer scientists working on bioinformatics projects, pool their expertise. The biologists bring knowledge of living organisms, while computer scientists offer advanced data analysis tools. Together, they crack problems that would stump an individual researcher.Weathering the Storm of Setbacks
The journey to a scientific discovery is riddled with obstacles. Experiments fail, hypotheses crumble. 32 . But it’s precisely these setbacks that separate the greats from the rest. Einstein faced numerous rejections before his theories gained acceptance. Instead of quitting, he refined his work, using failures as stepping stones to success. 33
Staying informed about the latest scientific trends is as vital as the discovery process itself. New research papers, emerging technologies, and global conferences are treasure troves of knowledge. Scientists who keep their ears to the ground can borrow ideas, adapt methods, and sometimes stumble upon the missing piece of their research puzzle. The Road Ahead
To wrap it up, achieving remarkable scientific feats requires a blend of qualities. 34 . Nurturing these in budding scientists will ensure a future filled with even more awe-inspiring discoveries.
A.So, what qualities should future scientists focus on
B.They bounce ideas off each other, forging new solutions.
C.How can scientists make the best use of collaborations
D.Keeping Abreast of Scientific Advancements
E.It’s these chance observations that lead to breakthroughs.
F.What drives scientists to persevere through failures
G.But they don’t let these setbacks derail them.

【答案】26.C 27.B 28.A 29.D
【分析】本文是新闻报道。文章主要介绍麻省理工学院的研究人员为了减少树木损失而进行的一项研究。
【解析】26.推理判断题。根据第一段“Each year, the world loses about 10 million hectares of forest — an area about the size of Iceland — because of cutting down trees. (每年,全世界因砍伐树木而损失约1000万公顷森林,面积相当于冰岛的大小。按照这个速度,一些科学家预测世界森林可能在100到200年内消失。为了解决这个问题,麻省理工学院(MIT)的研究人员开创了一种在实验室中生成类似木材的植物材料的技术。这使得在不砍伐树木的情况下“种植”木制品成为可能。)”可知,麻省理工学院的研究人员进行这项研究是为了减少树木损失。故选C。
27.主旨大意题。根据第二段“In the lab, the researchers first take cells from the leaves of a young plant.
根据第三段“They found that lower hormone levels lead to plant materials with more rounded, open cells of lower density (密度), while higher hormone levels contribute to the growth of plant materials with smaller but denser cell structures. Lower or higher density of cell structures makes the plant materials softer or more rigid, helping the materials grow with different wood-like characteristics. (他们发现,较低的激素水平会使植物材料的细胞更圆、更开放、密度更低,而较高的激素水平有助于细胞结构更小但密度更大的植物材料的生长。更低或更高密度的细胞结构使植物材料更柔软或更坚硬,有助于材料生长出不同的类木特征。)”可知,这一发现表明激素水平会影响它们的刚性。故选A。
29.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Research of this kind is ground-breaking.

Are you at least 17 years old Do you weigh more than 110 pounds Do you consider yourself fairly healthy
If you answered yes to all of these questions, you should be donating (捐赠) blood every two months. In my survey of my schoolmates, I found that only 50 percent of them have ever donated blood and that only 1 out of 13 of them donate regularly. The lack of blood donors is a serious problem that requires immediate action.
According to the American Red Cross Web pages, in the United States alone someone receives a blood transfusion (输血) once every three seconds.People who benefit from donations include cancer patients as well as babies. The need for blood never takes a vacation and neither should donors.
Let me tell you about Brooke, a three year old girl with cancer.Brooke has spent about half of her life in the hospital receiving treatments. Her treatment will require about 500 units of blood in total, of which only 250 units have been replaced. She still needs the other half of the total amount to continue her treatment. If she doesn't receive this blood, she will not live to start kindergarten.
Examples like Brooke's are becoming all too common these days, with only 1 in 20 Americans donating blood and this number keeps dropping each year. These facts are extremely worrying considering that nearly half of us here will need blood sometime in our lives.
You can now see the seriousness of the problem with the lack of blood donations.Fortunately, it is a problem that can be easily solved. Each and every one of you can be part of the solution. All you have to do is go to the nearest Red Cross and donate your blood.

22.Why do researchers at MIT conduct the research
A.To grow more trees.
B.To protect plant diversity.
C.To reduce tree losses.
D.To predict forest disappearance.
23.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about the lab research
A.Its theoretical basis.
B.Its key procedures.
C.Its scientific evidence.
D.Its usual difficulties.
24.What does the finding suggest about the plant materials
A.The hormone levels affect their rigidity.
B.They are better than naturally grown plants.
C.Their cells’shapes mainly rely on their density.
D.Their growth speed determines their characteristics.
25.Why is the research ground-breaking according to Berenstain
A.It uses new biological materials in lab experiments.
B.It has a significant impact on worldwide plant growth.
C.It challenges traditional scientific theories in forestry.
D.It revolutionizes the way to make wooden products.

Rise of the Robots
The word “robot” was created in 1920 by the Czech playwright Karel Capek, who imagined artificial, fully functional servants. For most of their history, however, robots have been silent, inelegant devices sitting out of sight in factories.
Things are starting to change, however.Robots have benefited from rapid innovations in smartphones, which brought cameras, sensors and wireless communications. 1 Robots are leaving industrial settings for everyday life and, will work in supermarkets, social care and much more.
2 Many industries are facing a shortage of labour nowadays when emergencies appear now and then.Robots are now indispensable, picking items off shelves and helping people pack a rising numbers of boxes. They are even beginning to deliver goods or food right to people’s doors. 3
And yet many people fear that robots will destroy jobs. 4 The evidence suggests robots will be disruptive(扰乱性的) but ultimately beneficial for labour markets.A Yale University study that looked at Japanese manufacturing between 1978 and 2017 found that an increase of one robot unit per 1,000 workers boosted a company’s employment by 2.2%.
For all that, the march of the robots will bring big changes to workplaces. 5 The potential gains from the robot revolution are huge.In Capek’s play, the robots go against their human masters and cause mass unemployment and worse. The beginnings of the world’s real robots have not matched Capek’s satire (讽刺).There is no need to concern about their future.
A.They could not be coming at a better time.
B.But that need not be the disaster many fear.
C.In fact, concerns about mass unemployment are overblown.
D.The use of advanced technologies lead to increases in hiring.
E.Having more robots to boost productivity would be a good thing.
F.Firms should recognize the value of retraining and lifelong learning.
G.Recent advances in machine learning have equipped them to make wiser decisions.

In an era of remote and hybrid (混合的) work, many working parents aren’t working in offices as before and are finding their work habits increasingly on display in front of their children in a new way. Is this having a negative effect on kids
Previous researches have shown parents’ attitudes and behaviors around work can have an impact on their children. Ioana Lupu, associate professor at ESSEC Business School, France, found a large number of workers mimicked (模仿) the patterns of their parents; for instance, those whose parents worked long hours were likely to repeat that in their own working lives as adults. Research from Stewart Friedman, psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania, U. S., showed children often suffered emotionally when their fathers particularly were very psychologically engaged in their careers. Now that parents are working in front of children more, due to remote-work set-ups, both researchers believe these effects could be intensified.
Working in front of children is not all downside, however. For instance, although the effects can be damaging when the display of emotion is negative, the inverse can happen, too, says Friedman. If children observe parents engaging positively with work, using the workplace to display their values or showing that they’re using their “particular gifts and passions for doing good”, this can set a positive model for how children form their relationships with work in the future. A child observing a parent’s positive work principles can also be a strong influence throughout their life, at different stages, adds Tricia Hanley, director of Sarah Lawrence College’s Child Development Institute.
Given the potential negative effects of parents working in front of their children, it is important for parents to take active steps to address these challenges. Researchers suggest parents should draw a clear line between work and life by creating a separate working space if possible and actively start conversations about these changes with children: “It’s important to let children know the work you do, why you work from home, and what attention it involves,” says Friedman.
Ultimately it doesn’t matter whether parents are at home or in the office. Children shape themselves in their caretakers’ attitudes, actions and decisions around work. These have a huge impact on how children will build their relationships with work, and shape who they become in the future.
25.What phenomenon does the author describe in Paragraph 1
A.Traditional work patterns are to disappear.
B.Technology is developing dramatically.
C.Parents face work- life balance challenges.
D.Many parents are working from home.
26.What does the underlined word “inverse” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Incredible. B.Opposite. C.Unexpected. D.Unfortunate.
27.According to the researchers, what might help parents work in front of children
A.Respect and company. B.Separation and patience.
C.Love and understanding. D.Boundaries and communication.
三、七选五阅读(本大题共1小题)
Power of Words
The power of words is sometimes hard to understand. 28 If you have goals and dreams in life, write them down and speak them out.
As an ancient Jewish proverb says “Your tongue has the power of life and death.” That means that our words have power to finally cause things to happen, even life or death. 29 For example, an encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day. Words can have a powerful effect on your subconscious brain. And it will in turn affect your life greatly.
Be very careful, because your words have destructive power, too. You have probably heard of children being scolded by their parents and developing a bad self image. Most kids have that experience. 30
31 It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, and argument or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision you make.
We may all experience the power of words in our life, even when we were very young. 32 Encouraging words from our teacher or parents when we fail in the exam can make us work harder at our lessons, while blame or scolding will make things worse.
【选项】
A.But an encouraging word can go quite a long way.
B.Everything you do is based on the choices you make.
C.You should try to be encouraged and think positively.
D.Your words are likely to bring out something amazing.
E.The familiar words can help us build up good relationships with others.
F.We all need positive words especially when being in trouble or needing help.
G.They say it is important to praise children 4 times for each negative word or scolding.

32.
根据后文“Encouraging words from our teacher or parents when we fail in the exam can make us work harder at our lessons, while blame or scolding will make things worse.(当我们考试不及格时,老师或父母的鼓励话语可以使我们在功课上更加努力,而责备或责骂会使事情变得更糟)”可知,后文提到考试不及格责备或责骂会让事情变得更糟,下文的“fail in the exam”与选项F中的“in trouble or needing help”相匹配,故F选项“我们都需要积极的词汇,尤其是在遇到麻烦或需要帮助的时候”符合语境,故选F。

一、完形(15空)(本大题共1小题)
A recent survey in the United States showed that the average family spent more money on its pets than on its children. Although rather shocking, it should not 1 anyone who has seen the doggy parlors(客厅) where loved pets rest. Are Americans unique in treating their little friends in this way No, the English, too, are 2 to their pets.
This can clearly be seen when we look at pet foods, which often contain more vitamins than human food or, at least, are 3 less nutritious. They certainly cost much. Last year the British public spent two hundred million pounds on pet food alone, 4 veterinary(兽医的) bills or animal furniture. It is difficult not to feel 5 with this when one considers what the same amount could do for victims of starvation and poverty, so it is 6 for me to get hot under the collar when I read an old man left all his money to his dog home.
There are a variety of reasons why I find the popularity of British pets 7 . They cause physical problems. An example of this is New York where they have great difficulty getting rid of the mess that dogs leave on the streets. Many people find this funny, but in a number of large cities it is a major problem. Animals can cause disease, too. It is the threat of rabies --- a disease with no known cure --- that has made the English government impose strict 8 on animals coming into the United Kingdom. When the Spanish government recently 9 a number of homeless dogs as protection against the same threat, English tourist immediately wrote letters to the newspapers 10 about mass murder.
Another problem is the 11 of pet owners. Most little children want a dog or a cat, and they continually pester their mothers and fathers until they get one. It is only when the sweet little thing has been brought home that the parents realize how much time and money must be spent on "Rover" or "Bonzo". Then they just 12 it. This brings me to my last point. Pets, which run free, are often not 13 at all. English farmers lose hundreds of sheep a year, killed by someone's pet and you must have read of children being hurt by some pets of their own.

二、阅读单选(本大题共4小题)
Nobody knows the value of a good doll better than Jandrisevits. “Dolls have a power we don’t completely understand,” she said. It’s a conclusion she came to while working as a social worker using dolls to help her young clients adapt to their changing medical situations. Many of the kids saw themselves in those dolls. But for the kids missing a limb or who had lost their hair, there were none they could relate to.
So, seven years ago, when a friend revealed that her child was stuck in self-doubt and self-distrust, Jandrisevits, now 49, knew what might help the youth through this potentially challenging period. “It’s hard to tell a kid, ‘You are perfect the way you are,’ and to build self-esteem (自尊) that way, but never offer them anything that looks like them,”she says.
Jandrisevits went about changing that. She crafted a doll by hand — using fabric, stitching, and markers — that resembled (像) her friend’s child and sent it off. After the friend posted a photo online of the happy child and doll, another woman asked Jandrisevits to make a doll that looked like her baby, who was missing a leg.
Word spread, and soon Jandrisevits was making dolls for children with scars, birthmarks, facial deformities(畸形), — in short, a doll that looked like them. She quit her job and started a nonprofit, A Doll Like Me.
Working out of her home in Milwaukee, from photos sent by parents or caregivers, it takes Jandrisevits roughly three days to craft only one doll. A GoFundMe page helps her cover costs and allows her to donate her services. She hasn’t charged for a doll since she began her nonprofit.
In all, she’s made more than 400 dolls. The waiting list is long, but Jandriscvits will never give up. As she explains on her GoFundMe page, “Every kid, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, medical issue, or body type, should look into the sweet face of a doll and see their own.”
16.What made Jandrisevits realize the value of dolls

18.What can be inferred about Jandrisevits’ making dolls

With the young unable to afford to leave home and the old at risk of isolation, more families are choosing to live together.
The doorway to peace and quiet, for Nick Bright at least, leads straight to his mother-in-law, who lives on the ground floor, while he lives upstairs with his wife and their two daughters.
Four years ago they all moved into a three-storey Victorian house in Bristol - one of a growing number of multi generational families in the UK living together under the same roof. They share a front door and a washing machine, but Rita Whitehead has her own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room on the ground floor.
“We floated the idea to my mum of sharing at a house,” says Kathryn Whitehead. Rita cuts in: “We spoke more with Nick because I think it’s a big thing for Nick to live with his mother-in- law.”
And what does Nick think “From my standpoint, it all seems to work well. Would I recommend it Yes, I think I would.”
It’s hard to tell exactly how many people agree with him, but research indicates that the numbers have been rising for some time. Official reports suggest that the number of households with three generations living together had risen from 325,000 in 2001 to 419,000 in 2013.
Other varieties of multi generational family are more common. Some people live with their elderly parents; many more adult children are returning to the family home, if they ever left. It is said that about 20% of 25-34-year-olds live with their parents, compared with 16%in 1991. The total number of all multi generational households in Britain is thought to be about 1.8 million.
Stories like that are more common in parts of the world where multi generational living is more firmly rooted. In India, particularly outside cities, young women are expected to move in with their husband’s family when they get married.

As the carbon countdown clock ticks on,cities must be more imaginative and cooperative,a lively round table hosted in Newham by a non-profit organization Friends of the Earth said.
“Net zero is around the corner,” said Mike Wake,Director of Friends of the Earth.“The UK has cut greenhouse gas emission(排放) by 40% to date mostly through the growth of large renewable generation on the grid(输电网),but further cuts will be needed as London tries to find new ways of using energy.”
“While Newham has lower greenhouse gas emission per head than the UK,it has high levels of fuel poverty, poor air quality and leaky homes.Vastly improved energy efficiency, especially on older and leakier homes, along with more efficient forms of heating and an expansion of low carbon heat networks, will help,” said Wake.
“But the future requires a shift to a more communal solution,” the representatives said.District heating, which pipes hot water from a central source to connected homes or businesses,is often a cheaper and lower-carbon method of heating highly populated areas.“It’s the lowest cost and low carbon solution for the future,” Wake added.
“There are new technologies to use wasted heat,” Wake said.“We worked with businesses to decarbonise(使环保) energy supply.Rather than wasting, spare heat generated by manufacturing and other activities can be captured and used to heat nearby properties.Friends of the Earth has already helped save Newham thousands of tonnes of emissions through district heating plans, solar PV and more energy efficient measures in the homes.”
But the challenges are substantial.Newham has London’s second-highest rate of fuel poverty.“Anyway,I’m confident and hopeful about the collective challenge,” said Wake.“But for Newham to be at the forefront of a green economy,to solve fuel poverty and deal with structural equalities,we must spare no effort.”
24.What does Wake think of cutting greenhouse gas emission in the UK
A.It doesn’t work at all.
B.It ended a short time ago.
C.It is very difficult to continue.
D.It still needs to be improved.
25.What does the underlined word “communal” in paragraph 4 mean

[浙江湖州三贤联盟2023高二期中联考]When you buy something for yourself, you probably spend hours shopping around for the best deal on the highest quality product. Some of you may even desire to know how a brand operates in a company. However, when we donate money to one of the countless charities out there, most of us don’t conduct such research. We have absolutely no idea about where that money goes, what it buys or who it helps. At least that is the case for the majority of charities.Perhaps you should start to take a greater interest in the winding path that your charitable donations take, because many of them may lead to dead ends.
You really should ask the question: Will my donation to this charity actually help the people or cause Sometimes it makes matters worse. For example, many charities help African people install (安装) water pumps to deliver clean water to their communities.Money has been invested over the past 20 years to install a total of 60,000 pumps across sub Saharan Africa. However, today 40% of those have failed to work at some point. They have been left there, like expensive but useless decorations.
One of the least effective means of giving is when charity sends endless shipping containers full of material goods to underdeveloped nations. For instance, Kenya imports more than 100,000 tons of clothes from global charities each year. The issue is that these mountains of regularly imported clothes have completely destroyed local textile (纺织品) industries, which have previously supported local economies.
Ultimately, to whom and how much you give is your choice. It is important to provide highly specialised services instead of material goods. As a general rule of thumb, the more your donation matches the need of the receivers, the better it will be for the long term prosperity of those you want to help.

28.What do most people do when they donate
A.They keep track of their donations.
B.They ignore the process of charities.
C.They select products of the highest quality.
D.They do research on application of funds.
29.Why is the example of water pumps mentioned in Paragraph 2
A.To stress effective giving. B.To show a false investment.
C.To confirm a charitable failure. D.To complain the pumps’ quality.
30.Which view will the author most probably agree with
A.Donations should meet local demands.
B.Ineffective charities must be abandoned.
C.Material goods can boost the textile industry.
D.Specialised services turn out satisfactory.
31.Which is the best title for the passage
A.Has Your Donation Hit a Dead End
B.Why Should You Make a Donation
C.Where Does Your Donation Take Its Way
D.Will Your Donation to Charity Really Help

Dear editor,
With the development of science and technology, mobile payment is gaining popularity in China. Recently our class has held a heated discussion about it and opinions are divided.
60% of the students are in favor of mobile payment. Firstly, it is easy to operate, as they just need to take a smart phone instead of cash or bank cards. Meanwhile, it’s widely accepted in different places, ranging from big shopping malls to stallholders, which is really convenient to consumers. In addition, they can enjoy some discounts with online payment, which may relieve their financial burden.
However, about 40% of the students are opposed to mobile payment. First of all, they are concerned about its security. It is likely that personal information could be let out and money stolen. Besides, they tend to buy more than what they really need by paying online. Furthermore, it’s difficult for some old people to adapt to it.
From my perspective, I am happy to embrace the new trend. Undoubtedly, paying online will contribute to an easier life and it will definitely improve our living standards.
Yours,
Li Ming
