James Warren was walking in his Denver neighbourhood when something gave him pause.“A woman was waiting for the bus, sitting in the dirt. And I was like,‘Oh man, that’s terrible.’ That’s not dignified at all.We need to be doing better by our fellow city members,” Warren told CBS News.“And so, I thought,‘I could do something about that, I can build a bench.’” That moment led him on a mission to help his community.
Warren found some scrap (废弃的) wood, thanks to construction sites in his neighbourhood with piles of discarded wood. And, because his dad builds homes, he grew up around tools — he knew he had the basic skills needed to build a bench.
He built one at the beginning of the year and put it back at that bus stop where he first got the idea.Since then, he’s built eight custom benches and has placed them at bus stops around the area.
Each bench looks different, since he’s using scrap wood for all of them. Each one takes a few hours to build, and Warren hand delivers them to bus stops without sitting areas. While each bench is unique, James makes sure to carve the same message on all of them:“Be Kind.”
“Sometimes it can feel really difficult to make a change in the world around us.But the truth is, anyone can be kind and make a difference in the world. And that difference matters a lot,” he said.
He’s heard from many people in the community — those who use the benches and those who have been inspired by them.“What’s been really cool is seeing other people online building their own benches or even just taking chairs they were going to throw out and putting them by bus stops instead of letting them go to landfill,” Warren said.
Warren said he hopes the benches continue to inspire — and perhaps expand to other cities.
24.What made James Warren build benches?
A.The woman’s seeking help from him. B.His father’s teaching him to build homes.
C.Finding other people building benches. D.Seeing the woman sitting on the ground.
25.What do we learn about the benches built by James Warren?
A.They were of low cost. B.They had the same shape.
C.They spread different information. D.They have been used in other cities.
26.What message did James Warren try to convey?
A.Acts of kindness go a long way. B.Helping others makes us happy.
C.We should dream big but do small. D.Having some skills is of importance.
27.How did people in the community react to James Warren’s move?
A.They voiced their doubt. B.They showed their support.
C.They expressed their concern. D.They conveyed their curiosity.

Climate change causes tens of billions of dollars in economic damage in the United States every year. Climate change is expensive, deadly and preventable, according to the new National Climate Assessment, the most sweeping, sophisticated federal analysis of climate change compiled to date.
“Climate change affects us all, but it doesn’t affect us all equally,” says climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, one of the authors of the assessment.
“The research indicates that people with lower income have more trouble adapting to climate change, because adaptation comes at a cost,” says Solomon Hsiang, a climate economist at the University of California.
For example, one of the simplest ways to adapt to severe heat waves is to run your air conditioner more. “But if people can’t pay for it, then they can’t protect themselves,” explains Hsiang.
Weather-related disasters in the US cause about $150 billion each year in direct losses, according to the report. That’s a lot of money and it’s only expected to go up as the Earth gets hotter. And the hotter it gets, the more profound the economic harm, assessment warns. Twice as much planetary warming leads to more than twice as much economic harm, the assessment warns.
But it also points out many successful efforts underway to adapt to the new reality and to prevent worse outcomes.“It’s not the message that if we don’t hit 1.5 degrees, we’re all going to die,” says Hayhoe. “It’s the message that everything we do matters. Every 10th of a degree of warming we avoid, there’s a benefit to that.”
There’s been a subtle shift in the report’s perspective since the last one, says Candis Callison, a sociologist and author of the report. There’s now a clear acknowledgement, developed through years of rigorous research, that the fossil fuel-powered society the US built over generations was profoundly unjust. “Climate change actually provides us with an opportunity to address some of those inequities (不公平) and injustices — and to respond to these impacts,” Callison says. “That’s really a powerful thing.”
28.What do Katharine Hayhoe and Solomon Hsiang stress about climate change?
A.It results in lower income. B.It leads to new unfairness.
C.It needs immediate action. D.It causes economic damage.
29.What does the author intend to show by giving the example of the air conditioner?
A.Climate change has negative effects. B.Climate change leads to serious heat.
C.Adapting to climate change is difficult. D.Dealing with climate change is expensive.
30.What should we lay emphasis on about climate change according to Katharine Hayhoe in Paragraph 6?
A.The potential risks. B.The serious consequences.
C.The value of each small effort. D.The achievements we have made.
31.What is Candis Callison’s attitude towards climate change?
A.Negative. B.Doubtful.
C.Confused. D.Optimistic.

In a human context, multitasking (多任务处理) refers to performing different activities at the same time, such as editing a document or replying to emails while participating in a teleconference.People think that they are capable of doing many things at once. However, the fact remains that they are merely switching from one job to the other.
Several types of research have been done to see how multitasking affects our brain.A study conducted to see if multitasking while driving was good or bad, concluded that performance is primarily reduced when there is a resource conflict.
According to studies, the only time you can multitask is when you’re doing two things and one of them doesn’t require your attention or mental energy, for example jogging while listening to music. In many cases, multitasking has long-term, harmful effects on your health, well-being, and productivity.
Sometimes the tendency to multitask takes a toll on the relationship and the partner feels neglected.Imagine discussing something with your partner while he or she is constantly engaged on the mobile phone checking social media or email. How would that make you feel?
Researchers investigated if multitasking increases our productivity and effectiveness. The findings showed that multitasking made individuals less effective and productive, which is contrary to what most multitaskers believe.
There is a cognitive (认知的) cost every time we go from one task to another, which reduces our productivity.Multitasking implies you are constantly shifting your attention between multiple tasks — it is no different from being distracted.
We’d like to believe that doing numerous activities at once is achievable, but it comes at the cost of lowering the quality and amount of attention paid to each task.As a result, you’re less productive and less efficient than someone who concentrates on one task at a time.
What’s more, we lose time and energy when we switch tasks.A study found that when switching between different tasks, the amount of time wasted depends on various factors, and it could range from seconds to hours.
32.Why does the author mention jogging and listening to music in Paragraph 3?
A.To show multitasking is harmful. B.To prove multitasking is difficult.
C.To show multitasking is possible. D.To prove multitasking is rewarding.
33.What does the underlined phrase “takes a toll on” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Is associated with. B.Causes damage to.
C.Has an influence on. D.Makes a difference to.
34.What do most multitaskers think of multitasking?
A.It extends working hours. B.It improves work efficiency.
C.It affects work performance. D.It does harm to mental health.
35.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.Can We Multitask at All? B.How to Achieve Multitasking?
C.Why Do People Like Multitasking? D.Is Multitasking a Good Thing?

Although travelling to new places and experiencing new adventures is a great way to see the world, it is no secret that there are negative environmental effects of mass tourism. 36 , perhaps look into a lower-impact alternative to mass tourism, which is ecotourism.
Ecotourism is a carefully organised way to see undisturbed natural areas of nature. Here are some of the benefits of seeing unique natural environments through ecotourism.
One of the great benefits of taking an ecotourism-focused adventure is that you are exposed to new, less popular areas in nature. 37 .
Through ecotourism, you have the chance to see some of the most unique environments and view nature closer than ever. 38 .Not only do you get to see nature from a new lens, but you also help to conserve many of the animals and habitats.
As you take part in ecotourism, you can also receive lots of information educating you on topics about that area’s wildlife and natural environments.
Observing animals within a zoo environment does not always provide accurate insight into an animal’s daily life. 39 .In zoos, many animals endure stress from not being in the wild or having ample social interactions with other members of their species.
More importantly, by interacting with a natural environment through ecotourism, you have the opportunity to leave it better than you found it.As a viewer and wildlife lover, ecotourism provides you with a way to reduce the negative impacts of tourism on these natural environments and protect them. 40 .
As you begin to plan your next excursion, perhaps consider these benefits to ecotourism and push to protect the wildlife of that area.
A.Everyone can make a difference
B.It does great harm to the environment
C.As you begin to think about your next vacation
D.Actually, there is so much else to see and explore

Kilimandjaro was a popular place for soccer fans who went to watch Middlesbrough F.C. play over the weekend to eat after the game. Waka Waka Chicken was one of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
Everything seemed normal for the owner of the restaurant, Apollo, who always values the virtue of honesty, and his waiters. Customers were flocking in, and service was running smoothly that day. Apollo, to be honest, wasn’t even there. He was having a good time with his family, completely unaware of what was going on in his restaurant. He had no idea that something unexpected was about to happen and that he’d be getting a rather awkward phone call from the waiter.
At about 11:00 a.m., three guys walked in, clearly interested in sitting down and eating the same food. There’s a good chance they came from out of town and were fans of the away team. At the very least, the staff could detect a difference in their accents. It wasn’t long before they were attended to by a waiter who took their orders. After that, everything appeared to be going well ... The three friends were glad they had chosen Kilimandjaro. Waka Waka Chicken with cheese was enjoyed by them. From their expression, the staff could tell these three guys were very satisfied with the food.
About one hour later, the three friends were prepared to pay for their meals. The total cost of the food was £35. They reached for their credit cards and handed them over as the waiter approached their table. However, they were shocked when the waiter informed them that they could only pay in cash. None of them carried cash with them. At this time, the waiter was asked to go to another table to take orders. Realizing the last train back home was to depart in an hour, the three friends had other ideas.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式作答。
On returning, the waiter was surprised the three guys had gone without paying.

Two weeks later, Apollo received an unexpected letter with £35 attached.

(Text 2)
W:Can you tell me how much it costs to repair the TV set?
M:Well, the set is very old. It’ll cost about 100 pounds. However, a new one may cost you 120 pounds more or less. So it’s not worth repairing.
(Text 3)
W:How many people are they interviewing?
M:They interviewed sixteen the first time, and now four of us were chosen to go back for the second interview.
W:I hope it goes well. Good luck. I hope you can get the job.
(Text 4)
M:The guests are leaving for New York today on the 11 o’clock flight. It’s too late. So there will be no bus then. We need someone to get them to the airport on time.
W:I’d be happy to, but my car is under repair now.
M:In that case, we have to call a taxi.
(Text 5)
W:Mary and I are going to the concert. Do you want to come, too?
M:Sorry, but I’m meeting Jane. She’s writing an article and she has asked me to help collect materials for it.
W:An article? About what?
M:Oh, just old churches. Anyway, I’ll see her at the library at half past two.
(Text 6)
W:Sunshine Hotel, may I help you?

W:What is the name, please?
M:It was a double room booked in the name of Dr. R. Sun from January 14th, for a week.
W:Ah, yes, I’ve got it. And now you want to change the booking, do you?

W:And may I ask who referred you to our office?
M:Uh, I drove past your office yesterday and I saw your number.
W:Okay. How about the day after tomorrow on Wednesday at 4 o’clock?
M:Uh. Do you happen to have an opening in the morning? I usually pick up my kids from school around that time.
W:Okay. How about Tuesday or Thursday at 8:00 am?
M:Can it be earlier, like 7:30?
W:No. I’m sorry.
M:Well, in that case, Thursday would be fine.
(Text 8)

W:You watch TV for 3 hours every Saturday and many people find that boring too.
M:OK, relax. Let’s see what else is there.
W:Photography. That looks interesting.
M:But look at the price. I don’t think I can afford it. Web design is pretty cheap. What do you think?
W:I don’t want to work on the computer in the evening.

M:Well ... no.
W:Jack, are you yourself? What has happened? Are you having a fever?
M:Not really. It’s all because of my professor. We were asked to turn in a paper on Friday morning, but I haven’t started writing even a single word.
W:Why didn’t you write it?
M:I was very busy these days. I had been preparing for my English exam all the time, so I had no time.
W:Oh, come on. I think you should have a good rest. Let’s enjoy this free Wednesday night.
M:Anne, listen, I really can’t.
W:Are you serious?
M:Yes, you know it means a lot to me.
W:OK, I understand. I will go by myself. Could you lend me your car, please?
M:But you don’t have a driver’s license.
W:Who cares?
M:Well, well, Anne. I am going to drive you there and you can call a taxi when the party is over.

I spoke to one guest staying in the Elvis Presley room. “I love this hotel,” he said to me. “I wanted to know what Elvis Presley would eat for breakfast and now I know.” That guest eats pancakes and strawberry ice cream every morning, just as Elvis liked to do. On the next table, the Einstein room’s guest is eating cabbage soup! The company plans to open another Fame Hotel in New York next year and there are plans to expand into Europe too. I look forward to staying in the Winston Churchill suite in London!

I’m sure we’ll have a wonderful time there.Hope you’ll come then.

第二节
On returning, the waiter was surprised the three guys had gone without paying. The waiter had no choice but to contact Apollo. Apollo was completely confused when the waiter explained what had happened. He couldn’t understand how, in today’s world, a group of friends could walk into a restaurant, eat their meals, and then leave without paying. After a few days, there was still no sign that three gentlemen would return to pay for their meals. With each passing day, the owner’s hope of them returning faded.
Two weeks later, Apollo received an unexpected letter with £35 attached. Obviously, they were sent by the three men. In the letter, all three were deeply sorry for leaving the restaurant without paying. They said they had intended to find an ATM machine to draw some cash but didn’t find one nearby. At that point, they had to leave, or they would be late for the train. After reading the letter, Apollo was absolutely surprised. It restored Apollo’s faith in humanity, who has come to believe there are honest people everywhere.

(Text 1)
W:I don’t understand how you got a ticket. I thought you were a
careful driver.
M:I usually am, but I thought I could get through the crossing
before the lights turned red. I was driving too fast so I hit a car.
(Text 2)
W:Can you tell me how much it costs to repair the TV set?
M:Well, the set is very old. It’ll cost about 100 pounds. However,
a new one may cost you 120 pounds more or less. So it’s not worth
repairing.
(Text 3)
W:How many people are they interviewing?
M:They interviewed sixteen the first time, and now four of us were
chosen to go back for the second interview.
W:I hope it goes well. Good luck. I hope you can get the job.
(Text 4)
M:The guests are leaving for New York today on the 11 o’clock
flight. It’s too late. So there will be no bus then. We need someone to
get them to the airport on time.
W:I’d be happy to, but my car is under repair now.
M:In that case, we have to call a taxi.
(Text 5)
W:Mary and I are going to the concert. Do you want to come, too?
M:Sorry, but I’m meeting Jane. She’s writing an article and she has
asked me to help collect materials for it.
W:An article? About what?
M:Oh, just old churches. Anyway, I’ll see her at the library at half
past two.
(Text 6)
W:Sunshine Hotel, may I help you?
M:Yes, I’m phoning up because I have booked a room for an
overseas visitor who won’t be able to come now and so I’ll have to
cancel it, I’m afraid.
W:What is the name, please?
M:It was a double room booked in the name of Dr. R. Sun from
January 14th, for a week.
W:Ah, yes, I’ve got it. And now you want to change the
booking, do you?
M:I wish I could, but it now appears that he won’t be able to come
at all.
W:Well, sir, I’ll cancel it then. I hope we can help you some other
time.
W:Dr. Carter’s Office.
M:I’d like to make an appointment with Dr. Carter, please.
W:Okay. Could I have your name please?
M:Yes. My name is Ronald Schuller.
W:And may I ask who referred you to our office?
M:Uh, I drove past your office yesterday and I saw your number.
W:Okay. How about the day after tomorrow on Wednesday at 4
o’clock?
M:Uh. Do you happen to have an opening in the morning? I usually
pick up my kids from school around that time.
(Text 7)
W:Okay. How about Tuesday or Thursday at 8:00 am?
M:Can it be earlier, like 7:30?
W:No. I’m sorry.
M:Well, in that case, Thursday would be fine.
(Text 8)
W:Look! Here is the information about the evening courses.
M:Flower arranging. That’s a real course? Why would someone
want to do that?
W:You watch TV for 3 hours every Saturday and many people find
that boring too.
M:OK, relax. Let’s see what else is there.
W:Photography. That looks interesting.
M:But look at the price. I don’t think I can afford it. Web design is
pretty cheap. What do you think?
W:I don’t want to work on the computer in the evening.
M:Hey, look, how about Indian cooking? It starts this week. A
little bit expensive.
W:You know how much I love Indian food. I’ll call them tomorrow
to see if they want new students.
M:OK.
(Text 9)
W:Hey, Jack. Are you going to the party in town tonight?
M:No, I’d better stay at home.
W:Why? It is your favourite.
M:Well ... no.
W:Jack, are you yourself? What has happened? Are you having a
fever?
M:Not really. It’s all because of my professor. We were asked to turn
in a paper on Friday morning, but I haven’t started writing even a
single word.
W:Why didn’t you write it?
M:I was very busy these days. I had been preparing for my English
exam all the time, so I had no time.
W:Oh, come on. I think you should have a good rest. Let’s enjoy
this free Wednesday night.
M:Anne, listen, I really can’t.
W:Are you serious?
M:Yes, you know it means a lot to me.
W:OK, I understand. I will go by myself. Could you lend me your
car, please?
M:But you don’t have a driver’s license.
W:Who cares?
M:Well, well, Anne. I am going to drive you there and you can
call a taxi when the party is over.
W:All right.
M:What would your life be like if you were Albert Einstein?
What clothes would be in your wardrobe if you were Madonna? Well
now you can discover the answer to all these questions at the Fame
Hotel in California.
(Text 10)

James Warren was walking in his Denver neighbourhood when
something gave him pause.“A woman was waiting for the bus, sitting in
the dirt.And I was like,‘Oh man, that’s terrible.’ That’s not dignified
at all.We need to be doing better by our fellow city members,” Warren
told CBS News.“And so, I thought,‘I could do something about
that, I can build a bench.’” That moment led him on a mission to help
his community.
Warren found some scrap (废弃的) wood, thanks to construction
sites in his neighbourhood with piles of discarded wood. And, because his
dad builds homes, he grew up around tools — he knew he had the basic
skills needed to build a bench.
He built one at the beginning of the year and put it back at that bus
stop where he first got the idea.Since then, he’s built eight custom
benches and has placed them at bus stops around the area.
Each bench looks different, since he’s using scrap wood for all of
them. Each one takes a few hours to build, and Warren hand delivers them
to bus stops without sitting areas. While each bench is unique, James
makes sure to carve the same message on all of them:“Be Kind.”
“Sometimes it can feel really difficult to make a change in the world
around us.But the truth is, anyone can be kind and make a difference in
the world. And that difference matters a lot,” he said.
He’s heard from many people in the community — those who use the
benches and those who have been inspired by them.“What’s been really
cool is seeing other people online building their own benches or even just
taking chairs they were going to throw out and putting them by bus stops
instead of letting them go to landfill,” Warren said.
Warren said he hopes the benches continue to inspire — and perhaps
expand to other cities.

Climate change causes tens of billions of dollars in economic damage
in the United States every year. Climate change is expensive, deadly and
preventable, according to the new National Climate Assessment, the
most sweeping, sophisticated federal analysis of climate change
compiled to date.
“Climate change affects us all, but it doesn’t affect us all
equally,” says climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, one of the authors
of the assessment.
“The research indicates that people with lower income have more
trouble adapting to climate change, because adaptation comes at a
cost,” says Solomon Hsiang, a climate economist at the University of
California.
For example, one of the simplest ways to adapt to severe heat waves
is to run your air conditioner more. “But if people can’t pay for it, then
they can’t protect themselves,” explains Hsiang.
Weather-related disasters in the US cause about $150 billion each year
in direct losses, according to the report. That’s a lot of money and it’s
only expected to go up as the Earth gets hotter. And the hotter it gets, the
more profound the economic harm, assessment warns. Twice as much
planetary warming leads to more than twice as much economic harm, the
assessment warns.
But it also points out many successful efforts underway to adapt to the
new reality and to prevent worse outcomes.“It’s not the message that if
we don’t hit 1.5 degrees, we’re all going to die,” says Hayhoe. “It’s
the message that everything we do matters. Every 10th of a degree of
warming we avoid, there’s a benefit to that.”
There’s been a subtle shift in the report’s perspective since the last
one, says Candis Callison, a sociologist and author of the report.
There’s now a clear acknowledgement, developed through years of
rigorous research, that the fossil fuel-powered society the US built over
generations was profoundly unjust. “Climate change actually provides us
with an opportunity to address some of those inequities (不公平) and
injustices — and to respond to these impacts,” Callison says. “That’s
really a powerful thing.”

In a human context, multitasking (多任务处理) refers to
performing different activities at the same time, such as editing a
document or replying to emails while participating in a
teleconference.People think that they are capable of doing many things at
once. However, the fact remains that they are merely switching from one
job to the other.
Several types of research have been done to see how multitasking
affects our brain.A study conducted to see if multitasking while driving
was good or bad, concluded that performance is primarily reduced when
there is a resource conflict.
According to studies, the only time you can multitask is when
you’re doing two things and one of them doesn’t require your attention or
mental energy, for example jogging while listening to music. In many
cases, multitasking has long-term, harmful effects on your health,
well-being, and productivity.
Sometimes the tendency to multitask takes a toll on the relationship
and the partner feels neglected.Imagine discussing something with your
partner while he or she is constantly engaged on the mobile phone
checking social media or email. How would that make you feel?
Researchers investigated if multitasking increases our productivity
and effectiveness. The findings showed that multitasking made individuals
less effective and productive, which is contrary to what most multitaskers
believe.
There is a cognitive (认知的) cost every time we go from one task
to another, which reduces our productivity.Multitasking implies you are
constantly shifting your attention between multiple tasks — it is no
different from being distracted.
We’d like to believe that doing numerous activities at once is
achievable, but it comes at the cost of lowering the quality and amount of
attention paid to each task.As a result, you’re less productive and less
efficient than someone who concentrates on one task at a time.
What’s more, we lose time and energy when we switch tasks.A
study found that when switching between different tasks, the amount of
time wasted depends on various factors, and it could range from seconds
to hours.

Although travelling to new places and experiencing new adventures is
a great way to see the world, it is no secret that there are negative
environmental effects of mass tourism. 36 , perhaps look into a
lower-impact alternative to mass tourism, which is ecotourism.
Ecotourism is a carefully organised way to see undisturbed natural
areas of nature. Here are some of the benefits of seeing unique natural
environments through ecotourism.
One of the great benefits of taking an ecotourism-focused adventure is
that you are exposed to new, less popular areas in nature. 37 .
Through ecotourism, you have the chance to see some of the most
unique environments and view nature closer than ever. 38 .Not only do
you get to see nature from a new lens, but you also help to conserve
many of the animals and habitats.
As you take part in ecotourism, you can also receive lots of
information educating you on topics about that area’s wildlife and natural
environments.
Observing animals within a zoo environment does not always provide
accurate insight into an animal’s daily life. 39 .In zoos, many animals
endure stress from not being in the wild or having ample social interactions
with other members of their species.
More importantly, by interacting with a natural environment
through ecotourism, you have the opportunity to leave it better than you
found it.As a viewer and wildlife lover, ecotourism provides you with a
way to reduce the negative impacts of tourism on these natural
environments and protect them. 40 .
As you begin to plan your next excursion, perhaps consider these
benefits to ecotourism and push to protect the wildlife of that area.
A. Everyone can make a difference
B. It does great harm to the environment
C. As you begin to think about your next vacation
D. Actually, there is so much else to see and explore
E. Much of the animal culture within zoos are artificial
F. You may be able to see wildlife within their wild, natural habitat
G. For example, you can change from merely observing to taking part in
a cleanup

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构
成一篇完整的短文。
Kilimandjaro was a popular place for soccer fans who went to watch
Middlesbrough F. C. play over the weekend to eat after the game. Waka
Waka Chicken was one of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
Everything seemed normal for the owner of the restaurant, Apollo,
who always values the virtue of honesty, and his waiters. Customers were
flocking in, and service was running smoothly that day. Apollo, to be
honest, wasn’t even there. He was having a good time with his family,
completely unaware of what was going on in his restaurant. He had no idea
that something unexpected was about to happen and that he’d be getting a
rather awkward phone call from the waiter.
At about 11:00 a.m., three guys walked in, clearly interested in
sitting down and eating the same food. There’s a good chance they came
from out of town and were fans of the away team. At the very least, the
staff could detect a difference in their accents. It wasn’t long before they
were attended to by a waiter who took their orders. After that, everything
appeared to be going well ... The three friends were glad they had chosen
Kilimandjaro. Waka Waka Chicken with cheese was enjoyed by them.
From their expression, the staff could tell these three guys were very
satisfied with the food.
About one hour later, the three friends were prepared to pay for their
meals. The total cost of the food was £35. They reached for their credit
cards and handed them over as the waiter approached their table.
However, they were shocked when the waiter informed them that they
could only pay in cash. None of them carried cash with them. At this
time, the waiter was asked to go to another table to take orders. Realizing
the last train back home was to depart in an hour, the three friends had
other ideas.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
On returning, the waiter was surprised the three guys had gone
without paying.

Two weeks later, Apollo received an unexpected letter with £35
attached.

参考范文:
On returning, the waiter was surprised the three guys had gone
without paying. The waiter had no choice but to contact Apollo. Apollo was
completely confused when the waiter explained what had happened. He
couldn’t understand how, in today’s world, a group of friends could
walk into a restaurant, eat their meals, and then leave without paying.
After a few days, there was still no sign that three gentlemen would
return to pay for their meals. With each passing day, the owner’s hope of
them returning faded.
Two weeks later, Apollo received an unexpected letter with £35
attached. Obviously, they were sent by the three men. In the letter, all
three were deeply sorry for leaving the restaurant without paying. They
said they had intended to find an ATM machine to draw some cash but
didn’t find one nearby. At that point, they had to leave, or they would
be late for the train. After reading the letter, Apollo was absolutely
surprised. It restored Apollo’s faith in humanity, who has come to believe
there are honest people everywhere.
