The Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, falls on the first day of the first lunar month. It is the most important traditional festival in China.
There is a legend about the SpringFestival. Nian, the monster, came out on the last night of every year. But people discovered
a secret: Nian was afraid of loud noises, bright lights,and the colour red. So people set off fireworks and firecrackers, hung red lanterns, and put red couplets on the doors. This way,they could drive away.Nian and bring good luck for the coming year.
Before the Spring Festival, people always clean their homes and buy new clothes.They make delicious dishes with care and love. In northern China, almost every family makes dumplings. Family members gather together, enjoy a meal, and celebrate the New Year! They all feel very happy to be close to each other.
There are lots of customs during the Spring Festival. Many people stay up late to light firecrackers at midnight for good luck. Parents or grandparents give lucky money to children. People go to temple fairs and watch dragon and lion dances.
It's so much fun! Chinese people all over the world celebrate the SpringFestival.
