In 2025, Guangdong Yingge Dance made a splash in Europe. On February 2nd, the Ximen Yingge Team from Shantou, Guangdong gave an amazing performance on the Champs- lysées in Paris. Their energetic dance moves charmed the audience, bringing the festive spirit of the Chinese New Year to the Arc de Triomphe. This was the last stop of their European tour during the Year of the Snake. Before that, they had already wowed the crowds in Hanau and Frankfurt in Germany, and Lyon in France.
What’s more remarkable is that in the summer of 2024, the first European Yingge team was formed in Paris. Intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) experts said that as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the Guangdong Yingge Dance’s performances in Germany and France during the Chinese New Year were a great chance for the Spring Festival culture to go global. It helps boost national confidence, promotes the cultural industry, strengthens international friendships, and shows the charm of traditional Chinese culture, enhancing China’s global influence.
The French Yingge Team was founded by the Amicale des Teochew en France. They had held small-scale (规模) shows in 2024 and early this year. Before the Ximen Yingge team’s Paris performance, the two sides had lots of communication last summer. During the performance on the fifth day of the Chinese New Year, the local French Yingge Team members watched and learned, and also provided important logistical support.
Du Laishun, the Youth Group Director and Vice President of the French Chaozhou Association, is the founder and head coach of the French Yingge Team. Having trained in Chinese martial arts for eight years, he gathered a diverse group. The team includes Chaozhou overseas Chinese, non-Chaozhou Chinese youth, and international friends of different races and nationalities, with members aged from 11 to over 40, both male and female. Du Laishun is proud that the Yingge culture has brought everyone together.

The Spring Festival was Li Ming’s favorite holiday. Every year in the past, his whole family came to visit. They made dumplings together, exchanged red envelopes, gathered around the TV to watch the Spring Festival Gala, and told stories.
But this year, a heavy snowstorm hit just before the festival. The roads were blocked and nobody could come. “The Spring Festival is ruined (毁坏),” Li Ming sighed, feeling down.
