W: Well, I’m seeing about a few places that meet your needs. If you don’t mind waiting until tomorrow afternoon, I can take you to look at them.
M: Great!
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
A
We were driving on the right road when, all of a sudden, a black car pulled out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver stepped on his brake, skidded (打滑), and missed the black car’s back end by just inches! The driver of the black car, who almost caused a major accident, turned his head angrily and started shouting bad words at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. I mean, my taxi driver was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just do that This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to hospital!” And the following is what my taxi driver told me, which I now call “the law of the Garbage Truck”.
“Many people are like garbage (垃圾) trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump (倾卸) it. And if you let them, they dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish him well, and move on. Believe me. You’ll be happier.”
So this is “The Law of the Garbage Truck”. I started thinking: How often do I let “Garbage Trucks” run right over me And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets It was then that I said, “I’m not going to do it any more.”
I began to see “Garbage Trucks”. I see the load they’re carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my taxi driver, I don’t make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, and move on.
Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. What about you The mark of a successful person is how quickly he can get back his focus on what’s important.
21.Why did the taxi driver just smile and wave
A.Because the taxi driver didn’t want his mood ruined.
B.Because the taxi driver realized the black car was full of garbage.
C.Because the driver of the black car didn’t cause any damage to the taxi.
D.Because the driver of the black car was so angry that the taxi driver felt a little frightened.
22.The underlined part “the load” in Paragraph 5 refers to “_______”.
A.useless garbage B.heavy goods C.new products D.bad mood

In recent years, electric vehicles (EVs) have gained significant popularity as a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional gasoline-powered cars. However, concerns about their actual environmental impact are growing. For instance, the production of EV batteries requires large amounts of rare earth metals, the mining of which can lead to deforestation, soil erosion, and water pollution. Additionally, the electricity used to charge EVs often comes from power plants that burn fossil fuels, emitting substantial amounts of greenhouse gases. Some studies suggest that in regions heavily dependent on coal for electricity generation, the carbon footprint of EVs during their operation may not be much lower than that of conventional vehicles.
Nevertheless, these concerns might be overstated. In fact, EVs may have a much greater potential for environmental benefits than many people realize. The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) predicts that as the share of renewable energy in electricity generation increases, the environmental advantages of EVs will become more pronounced. Currently, only about 20% of the electricity used for EV charging in some regions comes from renewable sources like solar and wind. But as the world transitions to cleaner energy, this percentage is expected to rise significantly. Moreover, EVs contribute to reducing air pollution in urban areas. They produce zero tailpipe emissions, which directly improves local air quality and reduces the health risks associated with breathing polluted air.
Automakers and policymakers face the challenge of maximizing the environmental benefits of EVs while minimizing their negative impacts. The ideal solution would be to rapidly increase the proportion of renewable energy in the power grid and improve the efficiency of battery recycling. However, since achieving a fully renewable power grid globally is still a long-term goal, focusing on three more immediate measures is more practical.
The first measure is promoting battery recycling. Starting in 2027, some countries will require automakers to take back used EV batteries and recycle at least 70% of the materials. This practice should be adopted more widely. The second measure is optimizing the location of charging stations. By strategically placing charging stations near renewable energy sources, the environmental impact of charging can be further reduced. Third, automakers must invest more in research and development to improve battery technology, making it more energy-efficient and reducing the need for rare earth metals. Strengthening these approaches would help transform EVs from potential environmental concerns into powerful tools for environmental protection.
24.What is the main concern about electric vehicles
A.Their high production costs.
B.Their limited driving range.
C.Their potential negative environmental impact.
D.Their competition with traditional gasoline- powered cars.
25.What can be inferred from the second paragraph
A.The environmental benefits of EVs are already fully realized.
B.The environmental advantages of EVs depend on the source of electricity.
C.renewable energy currently accounts for most of the electricity used for EV charging.
D.EVs have no impact on reducing air pollution in urban areas.
26.Which solution is more practical to maximize the environmental benefits of EVs
A.Achieving a fully renewable power grid globally immediately.
B.Banning the use of fossil-fuel-powered power plants.
C.Optimizing the location of charging stations near renewable energy sources.
D.Encouraging consumers to buy more gasoline-powered cars in the short term.

Chinese scientists have made a significant breakthrough in producing hydrogen from water using light. They added scandium (钪) to titanium dioxide (二氧化钛, TiO ) to create a new TiO structure. This innovation increases hydrogen production efficiency 15 times under sunlight compared to previous TiO materials.
The new performance of photocatalys, which is a chemical reaction that is accelerated by the absorption of light by a catalyst (催化剂) is due to 5% scandium doping. This creates TiO particles with two crystal facets (面): {101} and {110}. The {101} facet collects electrons, while the {110} facet receives holes. This arrangement produces a strong electric field within the TiO particles, enhancing charge transport efficiency. As a result, the photoinduced (光诱导的) charge separation efficiency has improved over 200 times, and the quantum efficiency for ultraviolet light at 360 nm has exceeded 30%.
Compared to traditional solar hydrogen production methods like photovoltaic-powered electrolysis, this new approach is simpler and more cost-effective. Traditional methods require complex and expensive equipment, while TiO -based photocatalysts offer a more straightforward alternative. However, TiO has a problem: photoexcited electrons and holes reunite quickly, reducing efficiency. The scandium-doped TiO solves this problem in two ways:
1. Eliminating Charge Traps: Sc ions fit well into the TiO structure without causing distortion. Their stable +3 charge neutralizes the imbalance caused by oxygen vacancies, reducing electron-hole recombination.
2. Reconstructing the Crystal Surface: Scandium atoms rearrange the crystal surface to form specific facets, giving electrons and holes more time and space to participate in reactions.
If made into a 100 m photocatalytic panel, this material could generate enough hydrogen in one day to power a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle to travel about 68 kilometers. China has the world’s largest TiO production capacity and significant scandium reserves, so this discovery could facilitate the large-scale industrial application of photocatalytic water splitting technology. It offers a promising way for more efficient and economical hydrogen production, which is crucial for transitioning to sustainable and carbon-neutral energy systems.
This advancement highlights the potential of rare-earth elements in improving photocatalytic materials. As the world seeks ways to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change, this scandium-doped TiO photocatalyst provides hope. It could accelerate the adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier and support the development of hydrogen-powered technologies across various industries.
In summary, this new scandium-doped TiO photocatalyst is a major step forward in renewable energy. Its impressive performance and potential for widespread application bring us closer to a future where clean, sustainable hydrogen energy is both abundant and economically feasible. This breakthrough is expected to inspire further research and innovation in the design of advanced photocatalytic materials, driving the world closer to a carbon-neutral and sustainable energy future.

In 2013, Deegan was trying to take control of her life after winning the fight against drinking. She did quit, but she was having difficulty reconnecting with people. Even looking someone in the eye proved to be difficult. “I was sort of like a shell of a person and just didn’t really have many life skills or self-confidence,” Deegansaid.
However, baking was something that always brought her joy as a child. One day while helping out in the neighborhood, Deegan picked up a handheld mixer and started baking. “My life was just out of control, but baking is such a controlled thing, where if you take the right steps and follow the directions, you’ll get a pretty exact result,” she said.
Deegan started bringing her homemade baked cookies to people’s homes, which helped her reconnect with people. “Feeding people is such a universal love language,” she said. However, she was still trying to figure out how to find a career at 27 years old. She had no real work experience and she couldn’t put ‘quit drinking’ on her resume.
Deegan’s life shifted in 2015. Encouraged by her friends, she challenged herself to see if she could sell just one pie. She sold dozens! She began baking out of her tiny apartment and eventually launched an official business in 2017. She spent four years developing a pie crust cookie recipe, which has since become the bread and butter of her business. “People have been walking, running and lining up to get cookies, and it’s just been so magical seeing that,” she said.
When she needs more help, Deegan says she looks for anyone who is just excited to work, even if they don’t have any experience. After her own struggle, she realized that the desire to work was better than having a certain skill set. And she became a second-chance employer, hiring women out of prison or the shelter system. “You just have to walk through the door and be ready, willing and able and excited to show up and work and you’ ve got a job,” Deegan told the reporter.
32.What was Deegan mainly struggling with in 2013
A.Emotion management. B.Interpersonal relationship.
C.Work-life balance. D.Alcohol addiction.
33.What led to Deegan’s decision to start a baking business

第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
In the 1960s and 1970s, the greatest fear was that the human race, and possibly all advanced life forms on the planet, could be wiped out by nuclear missiles. 36 Scientists are thinking of ways to lower this risk, such as replacing coal and oil with forms of renewable energy. But they are also preparing for the worst: what can we do if the earth can no longer sustain us
37 The most likely choice is Mars, which is relatively close to Earth and has an environment more friendly than that of other planets. Mars has fascinated people since ancient times, and today our interest in Martian exploration is greater than ever before. Since the 1960s, we have been sending unmanned spacecraft to Mars. 38 Our robots have explored the Martian surface, testing the soil and searching for resources, water and signs of life.
However, sending people there will require all the skill, courage and intelligence of the human race. While the Moon can be reached within days, it would take months to reach Mars, travelling through dangerous solar radiation. And even if the first settlers do reach Mars safely, they may not be able to return to Earth — ever. 39 As early as the 1980s, scientists were building Biosphere 2 in the Arizona desert, consisting of a closed space in which people, animals and plants could live together. Although the two-year experiment was a failure, it did provide us with a better understanding of how humans might be able to live on another planet.
Anyway, human settlement of Mars is still decades away. In the meantime, scientific research shows that the planet Earth is getting warmer. This change is being caused by human activity and is having a terrible effect on the globe. 40
A.That definitely is a big step forward.
B.Right now, it’s the only one we have.
C.One option is to explore other planets to see if we could live on them.
D.Staying alive will be a daily challenge, but isn’t impossible, as proved by scientists.
E.Our probes have orbited the planet, sending back valuable data and stunning images.
F.Today, however, environmental problems have taken over as the greatest risk to life on Earth.
G.Until we are finally able to live on another planet, we need to take far better care of our own.
【答案】36.F 37.C 38.E 39.D 40.G

38.上文“Since the 1960s, we have been sending unmanned spacecraft to Mars.(自20世纪60年代以来,我们一直在向火星发射无人航天器)”说明人类向火星发射了无人航天器。E选项“Our probes have orbited the planet, sending back valuable data and stunning images.(我们的探测器已经环绕这颗行星飞行,发回了宝贵的数据和惊人的图像)”进一步描述了这些无人航天器(探测器)的工作情况,与上文内容衔接紧密。故选E项。
39.上文“While the Moon can be reached within days, it would take months to reach Mars, travelling through dangerous solar radiation. And even if the first settlers do reach Mars safely, they may not be able to return to Earth — ever.(虽然几天内就能到达月球,但到达火星需要几个月时间,还要穿越危险的太阳辐射。而且,即使第一批定居者能安全到达火星,他们可能永远也无法回到地球)”强调了前往火星以及在火星生存的困难。D选项“Staying alive will be a daily challenge, but isn’t impossible, as proved by scientists.(生存将是每天都要面临的挑战,但并非不可能,科学家已经证明了这一点)”既承接上文提到的生存困难,又通过“并非不可能”给出积极的观点,与上文逻辑连贯。故选D项。
40.上文“In the meantime, scientific research shows that the planet Earth is getting warmer. This change is being caused by human activity and is having a terrible effect on the globe.(与此同时,科学研究表明,地球正在变暖。这种变化是由人类活动引起的,正在对地球造成可怕的影响)”指出人类活动对地球造成了不良影响。G选项“Until we are finally able to live on another planet, we need to take far better care of our own.(在我们最终能够在另一个星球上生活之前,我们需要更好地爱护我们自己的星球)”基于上文的问题,提出在能移居其他星球前要爱护地球的建议,与上文逻辑一致,总结全文。故选G项。

第二节 (满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。
One afternoon, Tom’s father brought home five healthy Rhode Island Red chickens and presented them to Tom. “If you take good care of them,” his father explained, “I’ll buy all the eggs they lay at market price. But remember, you’re responsible for buying their feed.” Thrilled at the opportunity to earn his own money, Tom immediately agreed, his mind already racing with plans for his new “business”.
For the first few weeks, Tom was the picture of dedication. Every morning before school, he would carefully measure out the chickens’ feed — a nutritious blend of grains and seeds recommended by the local feed store. He made sure their water was always fresh and their cage clean. The chickens, well cared for, rewarded his efforts with a steady supply of eggs—four or five each day. Tom would collect them in a small basket, and his father would pay him a fair price. Proud of his earnings, Tom started dreaming bigger. He made plans for a larger cage and even researched how to raise more chickens to increase his profits.
But as the weeks passed, Tom noticed something unsettling. The number of eggs began to drop — first to three a day, then two, and sometimes even just one. Maybe the chickens were just having an off week, he thought. But when the trend continued, worry set in. He examined each chicken carefully, checking for signs of illness or stress, but they seemed perfectly healthy. Confused and frustrated, he finally approached his father one evening after dinner.
His father listened quietly, then asked, “Think about it — have you changed anything in how you care for them ” Tom hesitated. Then it hit him. A few weeks earlier, he had decided to cut costs by switching to cheaper feed and reducing the portions slightly. He’d figured the chickens wouldn’t notice, and the savings would add up. But now, his attempt to save a few dollars had backfired.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

Within a week, Tom noticed a change.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
A wave of guilt washing over him, Tom determined to make things right. He immediately went back to the local feed store and bought the high-quality feed he had used before. He also decided to give the chickens a bit more than the recommended amount. Every morning, he got up earlier to clean the cage more thoroughly and make sure the water was crystal clear. He spent extra time observing the chickens, talking to them gently as if to apologize for his previous neglect. He knew that it would take time for the chickens to recover, but he was patient and committed to restoring their egg laying ability.
Within a week, Tom noticed a change. The chickens seemed more energetic, pecking around the cage with enthusiasm. One morning, when he went to collect the eggs, he found three eggs in the basket. A wide smile spread across his face. As the days went by, the number of eggs gradually increased back to four or five a day. Tom was overjoyed. He realized that in business, as in life, taking shortcuts and cutting corners would only lead to failure. From then on, he was more responsible and dedicated, understanding that proper care and investment were the keys to success. His new-found wisdom would surely serve him well in his future endeavors.

A
We were driving on the right road when, all of a sudden, a black car pulled out of a parking space right in front of us.
