1. 表示过去的能力
— Could you swim when you were 5 years old 当你五岁时，你会游泳吗？
—Yes, I could. / No, I couldn’t. 是的，我会。/ 不，我不会。
2. 表示可能性
You could be right, but I don’t agree with you. 你可能是对的，但我不同意你的看法。

(1) 问句
Could you (please) (not) do ... 表示请求对方(不)做某事
Could you (please) do the dishes 你能洗一下餐具吗
Could I do ... 表示请求对方允许自己做某事
Could I borrow your pen 我可以借你的钢笔吗？

肯定回答：Certainly. / Of course. / Yes, please. / It’s OK. (不用could)
否定回答：Sorry, you can’t. / I’m sorry ... (不用couldn’t)

(1) 表示推测的可能性。
如：The black hat could be Mike’s. He wore a black hat this morning.
这个黑色的帽子可能是迈克的。今天早上他戴了一顶黑色帽子。
(2) 表示建议。
如：You could write a letter to say sory to Linda. 你可以写一封信向琳达道歉。
