  本单元教材以“有礼貌地请求和征求许可”为中心话题,让学生运用几个常见的句型问答:Could/Can you please…?Yes…/Sure./No problem./OK./Sorry…并讨论“能做的家务”。通过本单元的学习,学生将学会谈论有关“家”的单词和短语,运用can或could提出礼貌的请求和征求许可,以及思考怎样让家更舒适和探索家的意义。语音部分要求掌握字母o,u和字母组合or,oor,oo,ar的发音和句子的意群和停顿。语法部分要求掌握情态动词can/could的用法。
第1课时 Section A(1a-Pronunciation)
Talk about chores.
1.Master the main idea of the listening text.
2.Master some key words,phrases and sentences in this period.
3.Master the pronunciation of the letters “o”“u” and letter groups “or”“oor”“oo”“ar”.
1.Talk about what chores they can do.
2.Help the students to improve their listening ability.
Pictures,a tape recorder,PowerPoint and multimedia.
Step 1 Lead-in
Greet students in English as usual.Show some pictures about doing chores to students.Then ask them the questions:
Do you like doing housework?
Do you often help your parents with housework?
What housework can you do?
Then lead in the topic:What can you do for your home?
Step 2 Cooperative inquiry
1.Show the pictures in 1a on the PPT.Lead students to learn the new words and phrases,like pack,pack up,bathroom,hang up.Ask students if they do these things at home and what chores they can do.Invite two students to talk about it in front of the class.
2.Present the things in 1b and help students read them by themselves.Play the tape and let students listen to the first conversation.And tick the things that Jim’s dad asks him to do.Then check the answers together.
3.Play the tape,and ask students to listen to the second conversation.Let students match the people with what they will do in 1c.Then invite one student to share the answers.
4.Pair work:Let students make a conversation with the chores from 1a in pairs.Use the sentence structures in 1d:
A:Can/Could you please water the plants?
B:Sure./Sorry,I have to clean the bathroom now.
After a few minutes,invite some pairs to share in front of the class.
5.Present the words in activity 1 one by one.Lead students to read them and find out the pronunciation of the letters and letter groups.Make a summary together:or/ /,oor/ /,o/ /,oo/u // /,u/u // /,ar/ɑ /.After that,play the tape and let students listen and repeat.And add one more word to each group.Finally,check the answers together.
6.Play the tape and let students listen to and read the conversation in activity 2.Help students notice the sense groups and pauses and make a summary.
Step 3 Homework
1.Recite the new words.

3.Present the mind map in 2c.Ask students to read the conversation again and complete the mind map with the information from 2a.Help students add more things to the “other” section.Check the answers with the class.
4.Lead students to solve the key and difficult words and sentences in this conversation in pairs.Then teach the new words.
5.Play the tape for the second time and let students listen to the conversation again.
6.Role-play:Ask the students to role-play the conversation in groups.Invite some students to act out the conversation in front of the class.
7.Present the phrases in 2e and ask students to make up new conversations between Peter and his family in groups.
8.Present the sentences in 3a and let students read the questions with can or could.Then help students notice how they are answered and write R for requests or P for permission next to each question.Finally,the teacher gives a summary.
9.Show the sentences in 3b and let students choose the best question to complete each conversation.Invite two students to share the answers.
10.Present the sentences in 3c.Help students understand each setting.Then let students make up conversations for each setting,using can or could.Walk around the class to offer language support as needed.Ask some students to write the sentences down on the blackboard.The teacher corrects them.

Step 1 Lead-in
1.Brainstorm.
In pairs,ask students to talk about chores.The teacher can give students some examples:do the dishes,take out the rubbish,make the bed,fold the clothes,sweep the floor,clean the living room and so on.
2.Free talk.
Lead students to work in groups of four.Let them discuss the following questions:
Do you often help do chores at home?
What chores do/don’t you like doing?
(I like…/I hate…/I don’t mind…)
Do you think kids should help out with chores at home?
Do you think your home is full of love?
Then lead in the topic:How do you feel at home?
Step 2 Cooperative inquiry
1.Ask students to tell how home makes them feel and share their ideas with a partner.
2.Show the picture in 1b and help students predict what the text is about.
3.Lead students to read the story and answer the questions in 1b.Invite two students to share the answers.
4.Lead students to read the story again.Ask students to complete the sentences to see what each family member did to make the home full of love.Help them find more examples from the text.Check the answers.
5.Let students read again and solve the key and difficult words,phrases and sentences in pairs.The teacher teaches the new words and phrases.
6.Play the tape and ask students to repeat and imitate the intonation.

3.—Could you please wash the clothes?
—Sorry,I can’t.I have to study for the exam.
4.—Could I hang out with my friends?

Step 2 Cooperative inquiry
1.Show the puzzle in 2a.Let students complete the puzzle with the new words in this unit.Check the answers with the class.
2.Present the phrases in column A and column B in 2b.Help students match the words in column A with those in column B.Then use the phrases to complete the sentences.Check the answers together.
3.Ask students to read the words in 2c and complete the letter with the words in the box.Invite several students to check the answers.
4.Show the email in 3a.Let students read the email and find out what Zhang Peng asks his friend to do.
5.Lead students to put the things in order to see how Zhang Peng organizes his ideas in writing in 3b.Check the answers together and make a summary.
6.Present the phrases in 3c and let students write an email to ask a friend to help decorate their room using the list of things in 3c.Walk around the class to offer language support as needed.Remind students to pay attention to the form of an email.Correct their spelling and grammar mistakes if any.Finally,share the email in front of the class.
7.Find out who does the most chores at home
(1)Show the table in 4a.Ask students to tick the chores they do at home.Help them to add more if possible.
(2)Group work:Let students do a class survey in groups.They can ask their classmates the following questions:
①What chores do you do?
②How often do you do chores?
③What do you think about doing chores?
(3)Report their findings to the class.The teacher makes some evaluations.
(4)Find out who does the most chores at home.The teacher gives some small gifts.
8.Reflecting
Lead students to reflect themselves from the following aspects:

(2)Can you use can or could to make polite requests and ask for permission?
