Step 1 View and listen Have students look at the two pictures in Part A on page 64 and answer the following questions. What can you see in the two pictures What do you know about these animals Have students read the notes in Part A and answer the following question. What kind of information is missing in the notes Have students predict the answers to Part A based on the keywords and phrases in the notes and write down the possible answers in the blanks. Have students listen to the recording and finish Part A. Step 2 View and read Have students look at the two pictures in Part B on page 64 and answer the following questions. What can you see in the two pictures What do you know about bats and birds Have students read the article about how humans get design ideas from the animals in Part B and fill in the table. Have students answer the questions in Part B. Step 3 Read and say Have students listen to the conversation in Part C on page 65 and answer the following question. Step 4 Read and write Have students brainstorm and answer the following question. What can you write about an animal friend Have students read Suzy’s fact file about an animal friend in Part D1 on page 65 and answer the following question. What does Suzy write about her animal friend Have students read Suzy’s article about her animal friend in Part D2 on page 66 and match the questions in the fact file in Part D1 on page 65 with each paragraph in Suzy’s article. Then have students answer the question: What is paragraph 4 about Have students summarize the main points of each paragraph and finish the following chart. Have students find useful expressions in the article and come up with more. Then have students finish the chart below. Have students think about what else they can add to the fact file. Have students write an article about their animal friends. They can refer to Part D2 and “Useful expressions” on page 66 for ideas about structure, content and expressions. Have students check their writing after they finish and exchange drafts with their partners for review. Then have students revise their articles.
