Last month, every student in my school’s health class took part in the Real Care Baby Project. We took home a “baby” to care for one day. The “baby” looked like a doll (洋娃娃), but she was as heavy as a real baby. Also, she cried at any time.

Entering Chocolate Ballerina Company, you’ll be surprised to find all its ballet (芭蕾舞) dancers are black. Yes, Chocolate Ballerina Company is a ballet school for black students. Chanel Holland set up the school in 2017.
Chanel is an African American and she grew up in Philadelphia America. Chanel showed great interest in ballet at a very young age. At that time, she always went to the local libraries to rent (租) ballet tapes. Later, she began learning ballet at some dance schools in New York City. In 2012, she graduated from Temple University.
Before Chanel, there were very few black ballet dancers. Lots of people thought that no black people could dance ballet. Chanel remembered that when she learned to dance at a ballet school, she was told that she didn’t belong there because of her black skin. After finishing college, Chanel worked as a dance teacher. In 2017, she returned to Philadelphia and created Chocolate Ballerina Company with the hope of offering black artists more chances.
Chocolate Ballerina Company provides low-cost or even free dance classes for black artists who look for professional training. All the students there wear dark-coloured dance clothes. The company’s newest show was Black Swan. On June 4th, 2023, the black dancers of the company performed it for the first time and it received warm cheers.
