Extra stress
When we speak, we stress the most important word in the sentence. You, the speaker, must decide what the most important word is.
特别重读
当我们说话时,我们会强调句子中最重要的词。哪些单词在句子中要特别重读取决于说话者。特别重读能让对方更加了解说话人所要表达的意思。
Improving your pronunciation
Amy: What do you think of computers, Frank Are they smarter than human beings
Frank: No, I don’t think so.
Amy: Why not Computers can do a lot of things!
Frank: Maybe, but human beings created computers.
Amy: That’s true!
Listen and repeat. Give extra stress to the words underlined twice.
1. The extra stress is to emphasize one idea in the sentence.
2. The extra stress can be anywhere, including the words like a, the, is and have.
Extra stress means to pronounce one word even more strongly, more loudly, more clearly and more slowly.
