Step 5 Around the world Ss Read and answer: Whom can you ask for advice When did advice columns start Why are online advice websites and blogs more popular Why do people not want to reveal their identity Check the answers as a whole class and introduce Agony Aunt. Culture box: Agony Aunt In the past, when advice columns were common in newspapers and magazines, they usually wrote replies to give people advice. They were usually considered to be an older and wiser woman. This is where the old term “Agony Aunt” comes from(the person with the problem has the “agony”, while the “aunt” provides the solutions to the problem. Some agony aunts were real persons, such as Lu Qin in China, while others were teams o different people. The Internet has now almost replaced the agony aunt advice system, and people who ask for advice on the Internet will usually receive advice from their peers or anyone who wants to help.
