A storm hit Houston, Texas, on Tuesday．It brought heavy rains and rising floodwaters．By Tuesday night, some parts of the city had received 10 inches of rain．Police and firefighters helped people move to safe places．They also saved people from cars and buses that were stuck on roads．
Certain areas around Houston were hit really hard．In just hours, more than seven inches of rain fell in Sugar Land in the southwest of Houston．Cars could not pass through any of the area's main roadways．On the Internet, Sugar Land city officials asked people to get to high ground．
Tuesday's rain hit parts of Texas that Hurricane Harvey had already damaged almost two years ago．Hurricane Harvey in August, 2017 was the second most costly hurricane in US history．It caused $ 125 billion worth of damage in Texas．In the Houston area, 36 people died and about 150，000 homes were flooded．
A spokesman for the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management said that this week's rain “is not in any way a Harvey-level event”．
But the worst may not be over yet．People will have a break from the heavy rain on Wednesday．
According to the National Weather Service, the Texas Gulf Coast will continue to experience heavy rain later in the week．“Today should be our quietest over the next few days for rainfall，” said Don Oettinger, a National Weather Service meteorologist(气象学家)．

Earthquake rescue robots have experienced their final tests in Beijing．Their designers say that with these robots, rescue workers will be able to have more time to save more lives during an earthquake．
This robot looking like a helicopter(直升机), is called the detector-bot．It's about 4 meters long, and it took about 4 years to develop the model．Its main functions(作用) are to collect information from the air, and send goods of up to 30 kilos, to people stuck in an earthquake．
This robot has a high quality 360 degree panoramic camera．It can work day and night and will also be able to send the latest pictures from the quake area．Dr Qi Juntong, Chinese Academy of Science, said, “Unlike other automatic machines, the most important feature of this robot is that it doesn't need a distant control．We just set the information of the earthquake-struck area on it, and then it takes off, and lands by itself．It flies as high as 3, 000 meters, and as fast as 100 kilometers per hour．”
This robot has a different function—it can change as the environment changes．Its main job is to search for any signs of life in places where human rescuers are unable to go．
As well as a detector(探测器) that finds victims(遇难者) and detects poisonous gas, a camera is placed in the 40 centimeters long robot, which can work in the dark．
Another use for the rescuers is the supply bot, with its 10-meter-long pipe．People who are caught in the ruins will be able to get supplies including oxygen and liquids．
Experts have said that the robots will enter production, and serve as part of the national earthquake rescue team as soon as next year．

The worsening air quality in tropical cities is causing ever greater threats to people's health and this trend will only get worse as the urbanization is progressing quickly, scientists have warned．In a newly published study, a team of researchers explain that across all the 46 cities they surveyed from Africa to Asia, they have measured significant annual increases in pollutants harmful to health．
This trend is troubling as tropical cities usually lack proper air pollution monitoring measures and policies to deal with the problem．“These cities are predicted to reach populations of up to 80 million people by 2100, so actions targeting human-related pollution are badly needed，” the scientists stress．
Already the number of people dying prematurely(过早地) from long exposure to air pollution has been on the increase and people living in cities in South Asia are the worst affected．In Dhaka, Bangladesh, some 24，000 people die of such causes each year while around 100, 000 people die in Indian cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore etc．
“The number of deaths in tropical cities in Africa is still lower due to recent improvements in health care there．But the worst effects of air pollution on health will likely occur in the coming decades，” the scientists say．
The reasons for worsening air quality in tropical cities lie in increasing road traffic, waste burning, and the widespread use of coal and wood．Industry is also partly to blame．“Open burning for land clearance in the past contributed most to air pollution in the tropics，” explains Karn Vohra, an author of the study．“Our analysis suggests we're entering a new age when some cities experience rates of air pollution in a year that others experience in a decade，” Vohra warns．
